After 13 years of studying and dancing argentine tango, I wrote down a few important things that I found helpful. I share them with you, and I hope you can share them with others. Maybe this way we can bring more smiles and create more beautiful moments. I am NOT a tango teacher. In this podcast, I simply share what worked for me with you.
I wanted to share my thoughts on an online tango musicality course I recently took that really stood out: The Complete Tango Musicality Formula. To access the Free webinar ''Mastering Tango Musicality: 4 Secrets To More Creative Dancing'' go here: https://bit.ly/4secretstangomusicality I decided to take this course because I often found myself too focused on the steps and not enough on truly flowing with the music. Sometimes, tango music just felt like a confusing bowl of sound, and I struggled to anticipate what was coming next in the song. I knew that understanding the music was key to creating a great dance, both for leaders and followers, but I thought my intuition would be enough. Finally, I put my assumptions asided and decided to dive deeper and improve my musicality—and this course didn't disappoint.

Today we'll discuss the order of learning things in tango. Let me be clear: I am not saying there is ONE correct way to learn tango and all the others are wrong. All I am saying is this: This way did miracles for me. It worked for me. So listen to it, take it with a pinch of salt, and forget about it if you think it's not for you. Today I'll share with you the third part of the interview I did with Sara Grdan and Ivan Terrazas, two wonderful tango teachers that I wish I had met earlier. If you haven't heard the first two parts yet, I recommend looking for them in the list of episodes. In this third part of the interview we talked about how we, the students, as spectators, develop an ‘educated taste' based on the performances we watch. We discussed the magical function of the thumb - spoiler alert: There is no magical function - and why do people leave tango? We also talked about one very important thing you need to observe about your teachers when they are in a milonga. Sara Grdan: https://www.facebook.com/curichak Ivan Terrazas: https://www.facebook.com/feraltango When the Embrace Whispers: https://whentheembracewhispers.com/ The Curious Tanguero newsletter: https://thecurioustanguero.com/
Today I'll share with you the second part of the interview I did with Sara Grdan and Ivan Terrazas, two wonderful tango teachers that I wish I had met earlier. In this part of the interview we talked about the tango vocabulary. the words and phrases we use to explain and teach tango and their importance. Things like: Spiral, connection, dissociation, being grounded, just relax, use the floor. We discussed how tango boils down to two words. We then talked about the three questions a student should ask their teachers to make sure they understand every new information they try to teach them. It's a brilliantly simple sequence of questions that you can use with any teacher. Then we discussed musicality. Sara and Ivan have a refreshingly different perspective about musicality than the usual, I loved this part. Finally, we touched upon improvisation and what it truly means. Sara Grdan: https://www.facebook.com/curichak Ivan Terrazas: https://www.facebook.com/feraltango When the Embrace Whispers: https://whentheembracewhispers.com/ The Curious Tanguero newsletter: https://thecurioustanguero.com/
Today I'll share with you the first part of the interview I did with Sara Grdan and Ivan Terrazas, two wonderful tango teachers that I wish I had met earlier. After 14 years of learning tango, I can confidently say I have never met another couple that could explain to me with so much clarity what I need to do to improve and how to get there. I flew from Portugal to Croatia to have classes with them and they also helped me online. In this part of the interview we talked about the ugly truth of the plateaus that most dancers realise 5-6 years into their journey and the difference between dancing with conventions instead of the inherent language of the body. We talked about what neural mirroring and two monkeys crossing a river have to do with leading and following. We discussed expressions that confuse me such as free the free leg, resist more, resist less, and other funny phrases. We covered dancing in freedom instead of carrying the follower, and we touched upon the feeling of chemistry that we sometimes feel when dancing with another person and its origin. Really awesome stuff. And that was just the first part of the interview.
