The follower, sensing the intention, first moves her free leg and keeps the presence of her upper body still with the leader. [...] The good leader gives a clear, unambiguous and thoughtfully-timed indication of what he wants the follower to do. The good follower listens to the music and chooses the time to move. The leader, having given the suggestion, waits for the follower to initiate her movement and then follows her." He further says (p. 34), "As a leader acting as a follower, you really learn quickly how nasty it feels if your leader pulls you about, pushes you in the back or fails to indicate clearly enough what he wants."Apologies. I was long ago entranced by the idea that walking is a sequence of "controlled falls". Which is true, but doesn't capture how walking is a sequence of artfully and smoothly controlled falls. Money is a big source of stress for many people, business owner or not. We have habits we learned in childhood because of how our families handled money, and many of those aren't habits we'd want to pass along to our own children. And let's not even talk about the dreaded “B” word. You know the one, “If I could only stick to my budget…”   Money can hold us back in business, and I don't strictly mean the lack of it. If we're not comfortable dealing with the emotions that come along with money, we're going to struggle to find abundance in our life and business.   This week on the podcast, I'm talking to Mikelann Valterra, money coach for women who want to transform their relationship with money. In this episode, we talk about mistakes we make with money in our businesses, why we need to replace the word “budget,” how to let go of some of our money stories, and why we need to start talking about money more.   Mentioned in This Episode   Download Mikelann's free ebook Follow Mikelann on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter Subscribe to Mikelann's YouTube channel Connect with Mikelann on LinkedIn Schedule a call with me Connect with me on LinkedIn Follow me on Instagram About Mikelann Valterra   Mikelann is an author, keynote speaker, and money coach who helps women transform their relationship with money to create a life they love.   For over 20 years, she has been a thought leader in the field of Financial Psychology. What You'll Learn in this Episode: How to understand your money personality. How to relieve your financial anxiety. How to create a spending plan. Quotes: "I hate the word budget, because it's so diety sounding. I'm gonna live on leftovers. But a spending plan is a tool that you design to say, okay, where do I want my money to go? What is the life that I most want to live? And then how do I use money to literally create this life?" (07:56) "Part of it is the mechanism of when you know, when you're in a whole stop digging. And how do we set up systems from a cash flow point of view so that you don't add debt, and then once people are stabilized, then we look at a lot of the things that I know everyone has heard about, which is, let's look at the interest rates on the cards." (12:31) "What I think is really interesting about the whole topic of earning your worth is there's a lot that we do control that we can do around earning what we're worth." It's amazing how lost we can get in our minds. How easily other people's beliefs or opinions about us can begin to feel like our own truth. Yet what other people think is never our truth. We each have our own sovereign truth which is the key to personal peace and freedom. My guest this week, Renee Linnell, knows all too well how it feels to wake up to the shocking realization that she had lost herself after years of brainwashing from a Buddhist cult. Whether it's through the influence of others or of an addiction, trauma, or depression it can be hard to take the first steps back to yourself. Renee offers gentle and inspiring guidance on how to take that first step and move into a place of the greatest peace one can know.On this episode Renee and I discuss how to stop betraying ourselves due to low self-esteem and fear, how to move away from the messaging that we're not OK and need something or someone to fix us, and to realize that there's nothing holding us back because there are no conditions we have to meet to be worthy, lovable, and free. Renee is a former surf model, a professional Argentine Tango dancer, and a serial entrepreneur with an Executive Masters in Business Administration from New York University. On the other end of the streaming spectrum, Brie turned the Shania Twain documentary on Netflix into a three-night viewing experience because she refuses to stay up late. Nikki met Shania during her season on “Dancing With the Stars,” and as starstruck as she was, Nikki made it through the Argentine Tango with Artem. Nikki opens up to Brie about her anxiety struggles as Matteo gets ready to go to school, and Brie's in the same boat with Buddy. So they're making School Year's Resolutions to help deal with all of the firsts that new routines and experiences will bring. Brie also has some hilarious observations about Birdie's personality as she gets ready for a new school year. Nikki also loves rumors, especially DWTS casting rumors, but so far, she's just not getting the kind of casting gossip she needs. Though the two artists have very different visual styles, their background and interest in dance and movement in their early careers heavily influenced their work and visual language, and sensibilities. They discuss their working-class upbringing, painting as women in New York for decades, and the gender biases that continue to pervade the art world and culture in general. Both artists connect on the compulsion to make art, the difficulties in but ultimate importance of their educational opportunities. Frances discusses her recent work Dreaming Tango, a film that explores Argentine Tango in the lives of six people. Lorraine talks about her ceramics and their impact on her work in paint. And despite all their differences, they connect over many similar experiences in their long and varied careers during which both artists worked in many different media and dealt with the challenges that presented. Finally, they explain what it means to them to be inducted into the National Academy by their peers and how difficult it is sometimes to connect with other artists.

From the Redmires Reservoirs near Sheffield, Clare walks up to Stanage Edge ('stone edge') a gritstone escarpment in the Peak District. Angela Lawrence and Anna Jorgensen are Clare's guests and are retired fell-runners (an accident with a vacuum cleaner ended Angela's running career) but their passion for the hills of the Peak District, which they have run across many times, remains undimmed. They have simply slowed down a little, and are now committed walkers. They wrote to Ramblings to suggest that Clare hike with them up to Stanage Pole. Along the way, on a beautiful, clear-skied day, they take in stunning views, a sociable lunch in a stone bothy, and tell Clare about another of their passions: Argentine Tango. During the walk they also talk about the "Ethels". In honour of the pioneering environmentalist, Ethel Haythornthwaite, 95 hilltops have been classified by the countryside charity, CPRE, as 'Ethels'. Clare, Angela and Anna delve into Ethel's fascinating life-story as they immerse themselves in the scenery that inspired her. The Ethels were recently created following an idea from Doug Colton. The Grid Reference for Redmires Reservoirs is SK265858. Presenter: Clare Balding Producer: Karen Gregor

For Eugenia Park, first came marriage, kids, and immigration from the Soviet Union to raise her family in the United States. Then came a love affair with tango that has stood the test of time.   Producer/Host: Liz Sabatiuk | Music: "La Puñalada" by Pintín Castellanos, performed by Juan D'Arienzo y su Orquesta Típica | Image Credit: Yulia Kriskovets   Show Notes Eugenia started our conversation by sharing this article by Cacho Dante. Recommended reading for a firsthand perspective on the meaning of “milonguero.” And here's even more history and analysis of “milonguero style” tango! Pyotr Leshchenko, a.k.a. "The King of Russian Tango,” is the songwriter and singer Eugenia listened to as a child in Ukraine. Here are some examples of his music. Chan Park continues his tango journey in Europe, where he teaches Tango Zen. Wikipedia kindly provides pictures of Argentine Tango figures including boleos and ganchos. The song accompanying Eugenia's episode is a milonga, a musical genre commonly played along with tango and vals at tango dance parties (also called milongas!) Here are a few favorite examples of dancers performing to milonga songs. Read a transcript of Eugenia's episode here.

Today on the show I speak to musician and Mama of two Sarah Saunders. Sarah planned to have her first child in the birth centre but promptly turned into a hospital transfer with an episiotomy, which then turned into a 3rd degree tear. She then ended up in theatre with an epidural (after a drug free birth) to fix the tear and with the combination of drugs and the trauma of what had just happened Sarah came into motherhood with tears streaming down her face. Skip to her next pregnancy - Sarah knew what she wanted this birth to be different. She knew mainly the thing she needed was a lot of spiritual growth and that she did, with the help of some beautiful friends and her much beloved unicorn midwife Norafiah Lever (who is also a dear friend of mine). She talks about how she did the processing by talking over the phone to her friend Asha, almost daily. She says it was like journalling which helped her reflect and grow and work through some blockages, especially around her mother's death when she was 19. Her birth - like a lot of freebirths, was completely normal and straightforward - just another day she says. These simple birth stories are becoming more and more common for those women that do the work and then leave birth alone. Sarah is such a bubbly personality with a contagious laugh, you are sure to smile while listening to this one. More about Sarah: Musician, mother, wife, sister, daughter and student of life! Sarah's dances in a world of piano playing, music education and being Mumma to two beautiful girls among her friends, family and community ❤️ Her professional career and passion as a pianist and accordionist has taken seen her performing in many festivals and shows across WA over the past 15 years, and she specialises in both world music and classical. After studying Argentine Tango music in Buenos Aires, Argentina, a rich decade of journeying into this art form has drawn her across Australia, to the USA and Europe in her creative pursuits. She's passionate about bringing the cultural milieu of Argentine Tango to the hearts and ears of Perth audiences and is the director, founder and pianist of the Perth Tango Orchestra. Also performing on accordion in local Irish band, The Rogues, Sarah can be seen jigging in local pubs and folk festivals. Music education has always been the ying to the yang of her musical expression and she has spent over 15 years nourishing (and being nourished!) by a beautiful community of young pianists from her home studio and in schools across Perth. The journey deep into the women's world of pregnancy, birth and beyond has been empowering, enriching and completely infused into her life as a mother, musician and again, student of life.
