In this episode of China Manufacturing Decoded, Adrian is joined by Paul Adams, Head of New Product Development at the Sofeast Group's contract manufacturer Agilian Technology, to discuss one of the most common assumptions hardware founders make before moving into tooling: that tooling will take “8 to 12 weeks.” Paul explains why that figure can be true in very simple cases, but why it is often misleading for real consumer electronics, IoT, and hardware products. Tooling timelines depend on design readiness, DFM review, part complexity, steel selection, toolmaker capacity, customer responsiveness, and the timing of Chinese holidays such as Chinese New Year and Golden Week. In light of the Colorado Supreme Court case Charles v. Salazar and prior conversation with Julia Sadusky and other conversations with Side X guests, we dig into Conversion Therapy (also called Reparative or Reintegrative Therapy), particularly how it intersects notions around the fluidity of sexuality. Reports on sexual fluidity opens new questions to the ethics of conversation therapies, and maybe different analysis has to why the “change is possible” narratives (e.g. Exodus Ministries) were so destructive. In this episode of Push the Leading Edge, Dr. James Hawkins (Doc Hawk) and Dr. Ryan Rana unpack what it actually looks and feels like when a couple reaches the end of Stage 2 in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). They move beyond theory and manuals into the lived, embodied reality: couples who can stay in the emotional “fire,” face their deepest shame and pain, and still reach for each other. Using vivid metaphors—from Navy SEAL training, battle buddies, and swim buddies, to military deployments and “embrace the suck”—they illustrate how Stage 2 work transforms not just the relationship, but each partner's internal sense of self and safety. Top 10 Takeaways from This Episode End of Stage 2 = Installed Positive Cycle You know you're at the end of Stage 2 when couples can see, use, and stay in a positive cycle on their own. The negative cycle isn't “gone,” but they can repair it reliably and return to connection. It's Not About Trying, It's About Training Stage 2 is like military training: repeated, high‑pressure enactments (often ~30+ deep enactments across Stage 2) build automatic, embodied responses, not just cognitive insight. When the “bricks clack” (the trigger of the negative cycle), their bodies now know what to do. Caregiving System Comes Online A key marker of Stage 2 completion is that each partner's caregiving system is active and available. Partners start pre‑emptively making space for the other's pain, even before a clear signal is sent, and can say, in effect, “I know this might be hard for you, and I'm here.” “I Must Be Willing to Know Me to Be Known by You” Borrowing from Leanne Campbell, James highlights that clients must be willing to know themselves—all the versions of self—for true intimacy. By end of Stage 2, clients are less afraid of their inner world; they befriend previously shame-filled parts and bring them into the relationship. Both Partners Can Go Deep and Offer A.R.E. True Stage 2 completion means both partners can: Go deep into vulnerability without getting stuck in blame or avoidance Offer A.R.E. (Accessibility, Responsiveness, Engagement) as caregivers It's not enough for just one partner to do deep work; dyadic reciprocity is crucial. From “Fix Me” to “Be With Me” A major shift is from “please fix me or fix this” to “be with me in this.” Therapists should mark not only outcomes but effort and presence: “Look how you stayed with your partner for 30 minutes in the basement of their pain without trying to fix it.” Confidence and Relational Resilience Grow Couples leave Stage 2 with a felt sense of, “We can do this.” They have experiential proof that under pressure they can rappel into the basement of pain, stay present, and emerge together—building relational resilience, not just symptom relief. Secure Bonds Are Simple but Not Easy Secure bonds aren't conceptually complicated: Show up Stay present Respond vulnerably and reliably The hard part is slowing down when the body wants to speed up and remaining vulnerably present in discomfort, not learning 50 relationship tricks. Battle Buddies and Swim Buddies: You're Not Alone in the Fire End of Stage 2 means each partner has a “battle buddy” / “swim buddy” / “wingman”—someone who will go into the fire with them, not just cheer from a distance. You cannot become a battle buddy without fire; Stage 2 requires going into pain, not just building safety around it. Therapists Must Mark and Install Key Moments A big part of the therapist's role is to slow down, mark, and install these turning points: Naming the risk Naming the caregiving response Naming the resilience and mutual effort This helps clients encode and remember how they did it, so they can find their way back outside of the session. What do we do with unmet desires? That is a deeply human question, but one that might not be addressed or attended to if we have a view of life that avoids such difficulty and tension. Some would seek to live the kind of life that tries to fulfill all desires, whenever they emerge. Some others might seek to live in such a way that ignores or tries to suffocate desires because that is seen as something like strength or virtue. Others still might just live a life that has no consistent ethic, so that the question of what to do with our desires—especially our seemingly discordant or contradictory desires—has no central theme or reason. But Christianity actually calls us to wrestle with such difficult things as directly addressing and even confronting or living with unmet desires. Christianity is, if nothing else, a call to wholeness, to integration, because Christ is, in the words of St. Irenaeus, “the whole man” who brings his disciples to wholeness—to integration—in him.In the new podcast series created and hosted by Abigail Favale and produced by the McGrath Institute for Church, the venture toward whole and integrated humanity is on offer. “The Gender Accompaniment Project” seeks to both identify a better understanding of the Catholic vision of gender, and attend to the personal stories of Christians who wrestle with gender as they seek Christ. This project is an exercise in encounter: going toward rather than away from points of tension precisely by going toward rather than away from each other in our pursuit of life in Christ.This is the first of two episodes with my colleague Abigail to introduce this project, which consists of 10 episodes, released in batches. As a business owner, are you feeling overwhelmed? Eric believes that overwhelm is seldom about having too much to do. It happens when business owners fail to structure their time as a CEO should and instead react emotionally rather than lead strategically. Overwhelm Overwhelm often comes from reacting instead of leading. Jumping in to fix problems, answer clients, and put out fires feels productive, but it keeps you stuck working in the business instead of on it. Responsiveness is often mistaken for leadership, but constant firefighting is not a strategic approach to leading a team. Role Confusion As a business owner, you wear multiple hats. Without clearly defining which role you are playing at any given time, your brain never switches off. Constant mental switching is unsustainable. Blocking time for specific responsibilities will reduce mental clutter and restore focus. Decisions Not Made Unmade decisions accumulate over time. Niche, service scope, pricing, team expectations, and client expectations all require clarity. When they are not addressed at the right time, they pile up. Constantly facing all the decisions that need to be made saps your energy and heightens overwhelm. Doubt Amplification Revenue is a rollercoaster, not a straight line. When challenges arise, doubt surfaces. Questions like "Am I good enough?" or "What if this doesn't work?" begin to amplify. Every entrepreneur faces doubt, but it becomes dangerous when it takes over and paralyses you. Priority Integrity The issue is not time management but priority integrity. Without clear priorities, confusion grows. Business owners have three levels of work: survival work for their clients, stability work on their systems and financial clarity, and growth work on their marketing, sales pipelines, team development, and scalability. Most business owners tend to get stuck at the survival level. Building Value and Freedom Long-term value is created by focusing on growth and building a scalable model. The less involved you are in daily activities, the higher the value of your business. A transferable business must be structured and team-based, rather than relying on a single person to manage all the chaos. Time Blocking Decide what truly matters over the next 90 days, choose one objective that will make your revenue more predictable, and focus on it. Then, create some non-negotiable CEO time- at least two 90-minute blocks per week, with no interruptions. Use that time to strategize, review your pipeline, refine your pricing, design systems, and prepare playbooks. And every night, define three meaningful outcomes for the next day. Remember to focus on the outcomes, not the tasks. Creating Clarity Doubt often shows up when you raise prices, invest in support, delegate responsibility, or start saying no. Growth is uncomfortable, and that discomfort can easily be misinterpreted as a sign that something is wrong. The key is to separate emotion from evidence. Instead of relying on how things feel, look at the data: the size of your pipeline, your conversion rate, your margins, client retention, and your key performance indicators. Build a dashboard, review it consistently, and let the facts guide you. Clarity comes from evidence, not emotion. Energy and Leadership Overwhelm is often a sign that your energy is depleted. Sleep, training, learning, and setting aside uninterrupted focus time are essential. Constant accessibility destroys your ability to think strategically. If you do not have time to think, you will not have time to lead. Practical Actions to Reduce Overwhelm Block your time and focus on priorities. Create a list with five activities to eliminate and three to delegate within 30 days. Build systems for predictable revenue across sales and execution. Focus on what you should delegate so that you can focus on representing the business and maintaining client relationships. Create accountability with your peers through coaching or with a structured review. Overwhelm is often the byproduct of avoiding leadership. Always remember that high performers don't do it alone. It assumes that danger is real and that what we as human beings need most in this world is not rugged independence but presence and connection. Or, to use a more modern phrase, humans need secure attachment. When we call, God answers. When trouble comes, God responds. When we're vulnerable, God remains. Nearness. Availability. Responsiveness. This is how God chooses to be known. God reveals this and models this not just so we will trust God, but so we will learn how to be with one another. If God is reachable, responsive, and present, then as people who are called to be representatives of God, we learn to become reachable, responsive, and present with one another.
