This year, we invited participants in our CLR Deep Dive Institutes to be guests on the podcast for an "open mic" series. In other words, say what you want, get some things off your chest, or just let loose. Our first taker is an educator from Las Cruces, NM. Meet Micaela Altamirano, a multi-talented and multi-faceted educator. She may be new to CLR but she is not new to the needs of underserved students. Over the years, she has used her many skills to be validating and affirming for students in special education and currently with equity in technology. As always, listen in for Dr. Hollie's two cents where he just asks the questions, but rarely gives the answers.Learn more about CLR and Dr. Hollie at www.culturallyresponsive.org and Twitter @validateaffirm

In this episode, I dive into the crucial topic of building trust online, especially in the digital marketing landscape. You've probably heard about the phrase 'know, like, and trust,' but I believe there's a missing piece in this equation. I argue that trust is not just a byproduct of likability; it also hinges on reliability. Trust is formed through the relationship plus the consistency of behavior that demonstrates a commitment. Through real-world examples and expert insights, I discuss how being reliable—such as consistently answering DMs or providing valuable content—can dramatically enhance trustworthiness. Plus, I share tips on how to analyze and improve your current strategies to build a more robust trust framework with your audience. Tune in to this episode and learn how to create a business that earns and retains the trust of your clients.   What You'll hear in this episode: [00:45] Understanding Know, Like, and Trust [01:50] The Equation of Trust: Relationship + Reliability [03:05] Building Trust Through Consistency [03:50] The Importance of Responsiveness [04:25] Trust in Client Relationships [06:40] Consistency and Commitment in Business   If you like this episode, check out: The Key to Building Authentic Relationships and Network with Cassandra Thompson What Drives You Beyond the Numbers? The difference between frustration and relief often comes down to one simple factor: responsiveness.Responsiveness in customer service is vital, especially when addressing time-sensitive needs in the insurance sector where a quick, accurate answer can make all the difference. Our Business Engagement Unit was created specifically to redefine traditional admin roles by hiring top talent focused on immediate customer response.• Responsiveness builds trust, fosters relationships, and enables efficient problem-solving• Empathy is crucial—putting yourself in others' shoes and providing service you'd expect• Injured workers experience disruption to their lives and need immediate support• Lack of response can lead to mistrust, increased costs, and potential litigation• The Business Engagement Unit answers calls live rather than using automated systems• Cross-training ensures representatives can answer multiple types of questions• Multiple communication channels (phone, email, text, chat) meet customers where they are• Setting clear expectations when immediate answers aren't possible prevents frustration• Acknowledging mistakes, taking responsibility, and making things right builds stronger relationships• Leaders must model responsive behavior with their own teamsWe encourage you to like, follow, and give us a review—we would love a five-star review to help others find this podcast. Our world has been turned upside down or at least it feels like it and yet we remained focused. Our eyes are still on the prize. We are going to beat meanness with kindness. We continue our celebration of CLR educators in special education. We go back to Ithaca, one of our CLR superstar districts, where we meet Christine Barley, a self-professed white anti-racist educator. Here this outstanding educator's fascinating journey to responsiveness. Born and raised in the Central New York, Chris provides a unique perspective and one that we wish were far more common. Dr. Hollie's "two cents" is a finger wag about one of his key teachings - we don't fix one generalization with the solution of another generalization. Learn more about CLR and Dr. Hollie at www.culturallyresponsive.org and Twitter @validateaffirm

One of the things that we regularly see in the customer service industry is articles on how to improve customer response times. For example, in one study, it was revealed that 70% of the people who evaluated customer service said that the quicker a business responded and resolved customer issues dictated whether they were viewed as having good quality customer service. Your response times indicated how valuable your customers were to you. This Sunday, our message was from Acts 7:17-43, we are not going to talk about improving customer response times. We are going to look at improving our Christ response times. In Luke 19, there is this great story of Zaccheus, a tax collector, climbing up in a tree to see Jesus as he passed by in the crowds. Luke writes, “And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, ‘Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today.' So he hurried and came down and received him joyfully” (Luke 19:5-6). That picture is a picture of someone who is eager to receive Christ and to follow Him. To hurry to be with Jesus and to joyfully receive Him.   Are you eager to follow Christ? Are you going out of your way to get above the crowd and the noise to see him and to hear him? How is your Christ response time? Come this Sunday as our sermon is called Improving our Responsiveness to Jesus. I think you will find it encouraging and helpful.    In Christ, Kevin Dibbley, Senior Pastor

Happy 2025! With our thoughts and prayers on the devasting wildfires in Southern California and the pending historic Presidential Inauguration (not to mention the birthday of Martin Luther King), we begin a celebration of CLR Special Education Educators. I have been inspired so many times by the dedication, commitment, and compassion that these educators demonstrate everyday. I have personally witnessed the moving validation and affirmation of students with various challenges. In so many ways, special education teachers are culturally and linguistically responsive inherently. We start the 3 part series with an educator from Southern California who is new to special education but not new to teaching. And as a bonus, Shawnee Muhammad shares her journey to responsiveness that started with Dr. Hollie 35 years ago, when they taught at the same school. In this episode, Naim Alkhouri, Mike Betel, Michelle Long and Jeff McIntyre join Jörn Schattenberg and Roger Green to look back at The Liver Meeting 2024. This conversation considers the role of patient advocacy in replacing biopsy in clinical trials with NITs and reviews a session on the foundational principles for patien-centric clinical trials. This conversation picks up at the end of Michelle's discussion of the FDA Corner session. Jeff starts by identifying this specific issue - replacing biopsy in clinical trials with NITs - as a place topic on which he believes patients must play a pivotal role in this discussion. He notes that patient advocacy has been involved already but anticipates this role will grow as the discussion progresses. After Michelle agrees how vital this issue is for patients and notes that manufacturers are "taking on this increased workload" for that reason, Jeff shares what he considers the key issue: FDA is not only a scientific agency but also a political one, and patients can serve as the "tip of the spear" toward political ends here. Mike describes a poster he presented (and was lead co-author), titled Patient Voice in MASH Initiatives:  Foundational Principles for the Conduct of Patient-Centric MASH Research. He lists the groups participating in this broad effort and describes the goal as "reimagin[ing] clinical trials for MASH and how they're designed and delivered... focusing on what matters the most for patients." The outcomes were a set of patient-centric principles:Transparency in explaining trial-related issues. Mike gave the example of placebos, how they are used, and what happens to a patient in the placebo cohort at the end of the trial."Whole person focus," including not only the medical issues but also emotional and practical issues that can emerge throughout the trial as patients' needs and life situations change."Patients as partners," treating them as collaborators instead of subjects.Family and caregiver awareness, noting how deeply involved family members are through the trial process.Responsiveness to patient needs through surveys and checkpoints throughout the process.Mike closed his comments by stating that all these points "put the patient at the center of the process," which meant considering not only diversity and inclusiveness in the trial population but also knowing and acting on what diversity will be in the context of these five principles.Speaking from their perspectives as researchers, Michelle and Jörn were both highly supportive of the principles (Michelle called them "fantastic.") Jörn noted that the entire trial process starts with patient-centricity since the research is inherently designed to benefit patients.

Beyond Food Franchises: Exploring Non-Food Opportunities While food franchises are undeniably our most popular category, franchising extends far beyond the realm of food. Over the years, we've featured numerous exceptional franchises in the service industry. These businesses, though often highly profitable, present unique marketing challenges. Our podcast begins with a discussion inspired by Dr. Martin J. McDermott's LinkedIn article, "You Had Me at Hello: The Power of the Follow-Up." This piece highlights the critical role of post-service communication in fostering customer loyalty. Using compelling anecdotes—like a dentist's thoughtful follow-up call or a repairman's check-in after servicing a refrigerator—Dr. McDermott underscores how small gestures can leave a lasting impact. He also introduces the RATER model (Reliability, Assurance, Tangibles, Empathy, Responsiveness) as a framework for assessing service quality, emphasizing how even brief interactions can strengthen customer relationships. Drawing from his expertise as a marketing professor and franchising authority, he concludes by celebrating the often-overlooked importance of a simple greeting and timely follow-up. Next, we sit down with Jon Ostenson, a consultant, entrepreneur, and author specializing in non-food franchising. As a former Inc. 500 Franchise President and multi-brand franchisee, Jon offers invaluable perspectives on this sector. We explore insights from his latest book, Non-Food Franchising: The Better Path to Franchise Ownership. Finally, in the second segment of the episode, we feature an excerpt from our celebrated podcast series, Great Quotes in Franchising.

Main Topic: Exploring the Working Genius Framework and Its Impact on Team Dynamics Key Concepts: Understanding Personal Genius The Working Genius framework helps individuals identify and embrace their unique strengths within teams. For instance, someone might feel insecure in strategic meetings until they recognize their natural genius for discernment, which allows them to filter and assess ideas critically. Discernment becomes a valuable skill in high-level conversations, acting as a “filter” to enhance the quality of discussions. Diverse Genius Types The six types of genius—Wonder, Invention, Discernment, Galvanizing, Enablement, and Tenacity (W, I, D, G, E, T)—each bring a distinct contribution to the team. People have unique combinations of strengths and frustrations. For example, an individual may feel energized by Wonder and Galvanizing but struggle with Enablement and Tenacity. Recognizing the different contributions allows team members to appreciate skills they might not possess, like the creative drive of an inventor. Disruption vs. Responsiveness Geniuses are grouped as either disruptive or responsive: Responsive: Wonder, Discernment, Enablement – focus on responding to and refining existing ideas. Disruptive: Invention, Galvanizing, Tenacity – drive change, action, and urgency. Disruptors introduce necessary tension and urgency, while responsives offer stability and reflection. Both are essential for balanced progress within a team. Balancing Team Dynamics Maintaining a balance between disruptive and responsive geniuses is key for team success. Too much disruption can lead to chaos, while an excess of responsiveness may result in stagnation. Recognizing the team's genius types encourages better communication, helps reduce misunderstandings, and aligns expectations around each member's engagement style. The Value of a Shared Language The Working Genius framework gives teams a common language for discussing performance, roles, and engagement without judgment. This shared language enables constructive conversations about balancing disruption with responsiveness, enhancing team cohesion and effectiveness. Personal Reflection and Growth Reflecting on one's strengths and weaknesses in relation to the framework can deepen self-awareness and improve team interactions. Even without an assessment, individuals can identify whether they lean toward disruption or responsiveness to understand their impact on team dynamics better. Conclusion Embracing diverse genius types within a team is essential for effective collaboration. A balanced approach that leverages both disruptive and responsive energies enables teams to achieve meaningful progress.   FOLLOW US: LinkedIn:http://www.linkedin.com/company/coach-approach-ministries Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/coach.approach.ministries Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@coachapproachministries7538 Website: www.coachapproachministries.org

CHAOSScast – Episode 97 In this episode of CHAOSScast, Harmony Elendu hosts a discussion with Emily Fox from Red Hat and Dawn Foster, the Director of Data Science at CHAOSS. Today, they explore the new Security Practitioner Guide created to help maintainers, who may lack deep security backgrounds, get started with essential security practices. Emily and Dawn highlight actionable steps, key trends, and simplifications to adopt in maintaining a secure project. They also touch on challenges like vulnerability reporting and the importance of consistent monitoring and updating. Additionally, the guide's flexibility, allowing customization and improvement over time, and the significance of community support are emphasized. Press download now to hear more! [00:02:02] Dawn starts out with providing an overview of CHAOSS Project's Practitioner Guides, which helps newcomers to open source understand key metrics and mentions the current focus on the Security Guide. [00:03:24] Dawn gives us an overview of the Security Practitioner Guide as she describes it as a starting point for maintainers, particularly those without a security background. [00:04:10] Emily emphasizes that many maintainers struggle with starting security practices and shares the two primary security focuses on open source: project security design and repository security. [00:05:38] Harmony notes the importance of project design and patterns, asking about security trends and considerations in open source projects. Dawn mentions the Libyears (dependency freshness) and Release Frequency as key security metrics, and Emily adds that OpenSSF best practices contribute to project quality and maturity. [00:08:32] Harmony asks for insights on how contributors can interpret these metrics. Emily suggests various resources and communities, such as CNCF's tag-security, for maintainers looking to improve security. [00:11:39] Emily discusses common issues with vulnerability reporting and the importance of having a process in place, with community resources available for support. Dawn emphasizes the importance of having basic security policies in place early on in a project and suggests starting out with a simple security.md file to outline how to handle vulnerability reports. [00:15:47] Dawn suggests consulting the Practitioners Guide's “Make Improvements” section, which included adding a security.md file and implementing automation to track outdated dependencies and Emily cautions that metrics are only as effective as their relevance, recommending incremental steps for improvement. [00:18:53] Dawn highlights the importance of the OpenSSF scorecard, which helps both maintainers and OSPOs assess project security. [00:20:29] Emily and Dawn simplify the Practitioner Guides into basic steps and Emily reiterates that projects should define their own security goals and commit to them for consistent improvements. [00:23:56] Harmony emphasizes the importance of documentation for continuity in project security and Dawn reminds us that the Practitioner Guides are MIT-licensed and customizable for different projects. [00:25:11] Dawn and Emily explain where you can ask questions or how to implement things in your project using the Practitioner's Guide. Adds (Picks) of the week: [00:26:55] Dawn's pick is 3D printing and learning how to design new things. [00:28:02] Emily's pick is taking a break from the internet and doing something outside. "It's not that we have non-responders. It's that we have unrealistic expectations." - 00:20:38A Personal Insight from Greece: Aligning Your Environment with Your Energy Dr. Novitsky begins by sharing a story from her trip to Greece, where the simplicity of her surroundings inspired her to declutter her home. This serves as a metaphor for aligning one's environment with their energy and current needs. Common Concerns About GLP-1 Agonists Dr. Novitsky discusses why people often struggle with GLP-1 agonists. Two main reasons stand out: confusion over how to balance medication with nutrition and exercise, often accompanied by shame, and the belief that they are "non-responders" to the medication. How a Nutrition Audit Can Help For those who feel they are non-responders, Dr. Novitsky introduces the concept of a nutrition audit. By tracking food intake without changes for a week, clients can gather data on calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber, and added sugars. This helps uncover what might be hindering progress. The Importance of Caloric Deficits and BMR Dr. Novitsky explains that GLP-1 agonists don't guarantee weight loss. Weight loss still requires a caloric deficit, which means consuming fewer calories than one's basal metabolic rate (BMR). Many mistakenly believe they're in a deficit when they're not, leading to frustration. Leptin Resistance and Weight Loss Struggles The episode dives into leptin resistance, a condition that can make weight loss harder, even when someone is consuming fewer calories. Leptin plays a role in hunger and metabolism, and resistance to it may be a reason some struggle with weight loss. Patience and Realistic Expectations Dr. Novitsky stresses patience when using GLP-1 agonists, explaining that weight loss varies by individual. Inflammation, body composition, and initial body fat all play a role in determining how quickly one may lose weight. She advises setting realistic goals to avoid discouragement. Looking Ahead Dr. Novitsky wraps up by encouraging listeners to reflect on their own journey, asking them to consider if any of the factors discussed apply to their experience. She teases upcoming episodes that will provide further insights into GLP-1 agonists and weight loss strategies.
