To what extent does Blackness define your identity? What happens when how you define yourself runs into the wall of how you're defined by dominant forces in society? How do we navigate the conflict between the desire to realize our highest idea of self as spiritual beings and the practical, often brutal dynamics of race, class and culture? Billy and Bing welcome life coaches, Anthony and Malenie Clark - - aka “The Amazing Clarks” - - for an amazing, accessible discussion about Blackness and identity called, “Who We Be”. Rather than attempting to approach the subject as experts, they dive deep into the subjective, powerful truth of their own life experiences and share with each other and you with raw intensity and sincere vulnerability.  Join us for part 1 of this 2 part episode, the last full episode of the season. A dictionary might lead you to believe that a journey is a process by which we travel from one place to another. This definition is correct, but it is also incomplete and insufficient for our purpose. We seek a deeper understanding.  Our travels are more than means to an end. They are in and of themselves a kind of destination - - a dynamic destination. And we are learning to look to the process for meaning and satisfaction. Or in other words, we are learning to better appreciate the journey.  Iesha Irene, a fellow traveler, joined Billy and Bing in a 2 part discussion we call, “The Journey”. In it we explore her experience as she transitions from an entrainment industry marketer to a full-time, professional DJ. We also discuss a wide range of subjects including staying motivated, self-care, goal setting and serving as an example to others, who might look to you more than you think for courage and inspiration.  Please join us as we laugh, learn and explore.  Learn more about Iesha Irene @Iesha_Irene | https://soundcloud.com/ieshairene  Special shots to DJ king DDT [ @kingddt ] for letting Billy sample one of his dope playlists, “Late Night Sessions #2 (Soulful House Mix)”, to craft the soundtracks for these two episodes - https://soundcloud.com/djkingddt/late-night-session-2-soulful  Keep up with the podcast @kaleidoscopepodcast  WARNING: This podcast does contain some explicit language.

Join us for Part 2 of a recording we call, ‘Take A Knee'. “Once you enter the academy you're taught one way, and as soon as you step out, its totally another world; and you have to fit in to get in. And if you break that code of silence, it's not nice. You're taught from day one... this is your new family. This is who's going to back you. It's the us against them mentality. ... if you're not a part of us, you're a part of them... and you're really shunned away from everything you really believed... But then, unfortunately, when things go wrong and they weren't quite what seemed... you are very much kicked out, and I mean kicked out.” Bernice Abram “The minute that you step out of that thin blue line, or step across that thin blue line, you are subject to retaliation. Now it won't be obvious... But when that person takes that interview to be promoted, when that person takes that written test to be promoted, all of a sudden his name gets passed over, or he gets a less(er) score, and nobody will say that's it's because you stepped across that line... and that's the retaliation people talk about. You won't get that special position that you've been working hard for... and even if you do make it, they will make it so difficult for you to get through that it's unreal.” Michael Brox Learn more about Bernice's company, Beverage Brim, at https://www.beveragebrim.com Find Michael's memoir entitled, Black N Blue, on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Being-Black-Blue-Thirty-Five-Tragedies/dp/0692126341 WARNING: This podcast contains some explicit language.

The venue was full of power and beautiful people. The conversations you'll hear in part 1 and 2 of the Launch Party Sessions were captured by a recording rig, set up in a comfy, not-so-quiet corner of the Catalina Jazz Club, just north of a bustling bar.  The first conversation is with three Black, Los Angeles based, yoga instructors: Alicia “ACE” Easter @aceyogala | Christina @thickgirlyogala | Oshunda @lionfromthemoon …  The second is with Black, urban farmers (also out of LA): Justin Gay @theseedsofxanxadu and Nick Neighbor @nickneighbor …  DJ Severe @therealdjsevere and Iesha Irene @iesha_irene, on the 1s and 2s, kill it in the background, spinnin' high-energy soul.
