On the 65th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, Shout It Out Loudcast Hall of Famer, Jeff Trott review the 1993 classic Hip-Hop album by Snoop Doggy Dogg, "Doggystyle." This is ARC's first Hip-Hop album review. The debut album from Snoop Doggy Dogg was highly anticipated after Snoop's appearance on Dr. Dre's "The Chronic" just one year earlier. The album was produced famously by Dr. Dre and was a breakthrough for G Funk style of Hip-Hop. The album features many contributions, including, Dr. Dre, Tha Dogg Pound, The D.O.C., Warren G, Nate Dogg, Daz, Korrupt, Lady Of Rage and more. The album went immediately to #1 US Billboard album charts and went on to become 4x Platinum and eventually selling 11 million albums worldwide. The album is known for the legendary rap skills of Snoop and the beats from Dre, which were revolutionary. The album catapulted Snoop Doggy Dogg into a super stardom celebrity status. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was Zeus' pick. The last 15 years, Mike & Keys solidified their status as an iconic production team on the hip-hop scene. They defined the sonic approach of albums and mixtapes like de Dom Kennedy's Get Home Safely, Nipsey Hussle's Slauson Boy 2, Buddy's Harlon & Alondra, Dave East's How Did I Get Here. They also produced tracks for Snoop Dogg, BJ The Chicago Kid, Tha Dogg Pound, Casey Veggies, Dr. Dre, Blxst. With a few other producers, J-Keys et Money Mike helped to reshape the Soutch California rap aesthetic. In particular on the highlight Victory Lap, last and only studio album by the late Nipsey Hussle, where they found balance between the new airy sounds of the 2010's and twenty years of nervous groove from the Great Los Angeles area.As they were in London and Paris at the beginning of this year, to meet and work with some European artists, Mike & Keys took their time to talk with us about their career, their music heritage, how they met and learned to work with each other, and the most remarkable productions from their discography.

B. Cox and J. Owe look back at at the momentous occasion of Snoop Doggy Dogg's classic debut album Doggystyle as it turns 30. Fresh off the heels of his breakthrough performance on several tracks on Dr. Dre's The Chronic released not even a year prior, he set to set the game on fire with what was, to that point, the most highly anticipated debut for a new hip-hop artist. Working hard with Dr. Dre and a handful of fellow Death Row Records collaborators such Daz and Kurupt of Tha Dogg Pound, Lady of Rage, the DOC, RBX, Warren G and Nate Dogg, the young Long Beach emcee was looking to top all expectations bestowed upon him. In spades, he delivered. Along a three hugely successful singles in "Who Am I? (What's My Name?)", "Gin and Juice" and "Doggy Dogg World", Snoop dropped 54 minutes of G-Funk laced fire with his trademark, lazy, yet casual and sharp flow and lyrics that served as the backdrop to a growing hip-hop and pop culture phenomenon. His infectious hooks, what would be become classic and quotable bars, the outlandish and even vulgar skits and humor all made the album a a part of popular culture and lexicon and still lingers to this day. It all played a part of a dominant two-to-three years of Snoop being recognized as the hottest rapper in the game and one of the biggest stars in music. The debut numbers were unprecedented. It sold over 800K its first week and by the end of the year, it was approaching 2 million records sold. As of today, it stands as 7x RIAA platinum certified. It is widely known today as such: 1) The biggest and most anticipated debut album of any hip-hop album that exceeded such hype 2) One of the most influential albums of any genre released in the last 30 years and 3) Universally accepted as a classic, a West Coast living landmark and legacy that defined 90s West Coast hip-hop and the success of Death Row Records at its peak. The matchup this week is D12 vs Tha Dogg Pound and the lightning round was an absolute banger. We speak collectively on the Grammys and the impact of Beyoncé in the electronic category before we dive down the rabbit hole of selling your clothes to resale shops. All that and so much more. PEEPSI!

Christian rapper IV Conerly of HOGMOB talks about coming from an honest place when making his music and being mindful of his content but also believing Christians need to be in the conversation of all the issues going on in the world. We also discuss him being a rapper prior to being a Christian and being inspired to rap because his cousin was South Sentrelle from Tha Dogg Pound. He discusses being influenced by gang banging culture and being a gang affiliate in (North County S.D. & Los Angeles) and making typical gangsta rap before becoming a Christian. IV remarks about finding trouble and trouble finding him even in the suburban city of Escondido and even after facing prison time and gun violence on numerous occasions and God delivering him from those situations, still not changing. IV recounts understanding the principles of Christ from his family but never considering himself a Christian until he found a desire to try something different and gradually changed after regularly hearing and studying the word. He also speaks about being around East Coast artists causing him to step his penmanship up, focusing on multisyllabic rhymes on his new album"Giant Season" (which he worked on for three years) and wanting to work more with DJ Wrek and Blaqthoven. If he had to choose to work with a producer who wasn't a believer he chooses Dr Dre. He also talks about being a fan of Mary J. Blige and Stevie Wonder. We also talk about the impact of the internet on the music business. We conclude the interview with Ivy telling the powerful message he has for fans, discussing televangelism, the politicization of evangelicalism and the importance of believers being involved in local politics. He also tells what he would change about the music industry and what's next in his career!! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ryan-glover-media/support

In the early 00's The Streets burst onto the scene. Original Pirate Material was like nothing else around. Combining garage beats with everyday stories from a geezer we could all relate to. Mike Skinner wanted to literally push things forward, taking the garage genre in a new direction and using his lyrics to talk about what was really going on inside the hearts and minds of people in the clubs. It struck a chord, and The Streets got a lot of attention. Over five albums Mike Skinner would tour Australia a whole lot, always playing festivals and always drawing a huge crowd. Then in 2011 he called it a day, releasing his final album and doing his final shows as The Streets. Music stayed in his life though. He threw himself into producing, directing, and most notably DJ-ing, behind the decks instead of out front on stage. Across his five songs choices we get a snapshot of a kid writing raps in his notebook in a hostel in Sydney. As well as the man today who is older, wiser, more grounded but with plenty of stories to tell. From Johnny Cash to Grim Sickers to Daft Punk, this is The Streets, Taking 5 with Zan Rowe and playing us his songs from then and now. Johnny Cash – 'A Boy Named Sue' Snoop Dogg – 'Serial Killa (ft. The D.O.C., Tha Dogg Pound and RBX)' Grim Sickers – 'Open the Till (ft. Ghetts and Mike Skinner)' Daniel Bedingfield – 'Gotta Get Through This' Daft Punk – 'Human After All / Together / One More Time / Music Sounds Better With You' (from Alive 2007)
