A Dungeons and Dragons "Actual Play" podcast with a heart of gold, combining the rules/regulations of Adventurer's League play with the social RP of a home brew game.
Like a mad man, I am back with some actually play! It's been so damn long but I have finally buckled down and started editing this mountain of audio trash. So, here is part one of the Adventurer's League module The Eye of Xxiphu!
Like the phoenix from the ashes, I not for the first time have come back to create and produce a poor quality amateur podcast episode. This time I'm chatting with my good buddy Mike, aka @zepwilliams and @elevated_images_dubuque on Instagram. We talk about Dark Tower shit, which also always my jam.
On on this episode I had the pleasure to interview Sarah, aka @voidedlux on Instagram! We talk about the Booksta world, astrology, and lots of other random shit!
On a very special episode of The Rules Lawyers Podcast, Luke is joined by fellow D&D podcast host and long time friend Levi to discuss important relavant topics such as the cost of familial canibalism and the money they anticipate making on their upcoming Only Fans accounts. Levi is the DM and host of With Rolls & No Luck, an actual play 5e podcast that I (Luke) frequently guest on as the villian Elric. Search for his show on a podcatcher near you!
We back at it again babey!!! This episode i am joined with my good Bookstagram buddy Steve to talk about D&D and nerd books! You can find Steve on Instagram under the tag @stevelikestoread
We have here a splendid interview with Alex (aka @_alexandraeiche on IG) talking about a lot of Stephen King, life in the Midwest, and how much of a simp Alex is for Eevee.
THE OFFICIAL 100th EPISODE!!!! I was so pleased and honored to be joined by Nicole, aka @darktowerr on IG, for this momentous episode! Check out her IG if you liked this fever dream of Stephen King/Dark Tower discussion!
This is a totally radical interview I did with my very good friend Marshall, aka @balt_immortal on Instagram. Topics: Stephen King (duh), Bookstagram, and how much better Marshall's hair is than mine.
You guessed it! More book talk! And big surprise, its more Stephen King/Dark Tower! I'm joined again by my good friend Patty (aka @pattyisbooked on Instagram) as she has recently finished book one of the Dark Tower series, The Gunslinger. Of course, we had to talk about it and share it with the world. If you don't already and feel so inclined, check out my instagram feed @book_dad_luke for a whole lot more SK/DT/nerdy book related things.
Here we have a couple of amazing follow book nerds with WAY more internet clout than I do gracing me with their presence. I have Patty (pattyisbooked) and Marie (topshelfbookreviews) on discussing King primarily, but we also just talk a lot about books in general.
We got the band back together (for the most part) to do a completely remotely controlled recording where we discuss our hot takes on Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. Please excuse the weird leveling of voice volumes, as this was my first time trying to edit multiple tracks of voices from different sources. But ya know what, in spite of this issue, I'm proud of this one. And that's all that matters at the end of the day, right?
just me rambling for a bit about my year. Hell f*ckin' yeah thugs
On this week, Rules Lawyers After Dark presents DOUBLE DUBUQUE BOYS!!! You heard that right! Each boy that represents a TTRPG podcast in this interview both call Dubuque their home. I am joined by Ben of the Lawful Great Adventures podcast, an actual play podcast playing Pathfinder as well as the Quest system. They truly are high quality, so please go check them out and follow them on all the socials.
Lets just do this one for fun, shall we? I have Peter of the Game and Read Podcast on with me where we do some fun thought experiment and generally shoot the shoot for a while. For real though, you should listen to the Game and Read podcast. Go to Soundcloud and search for them, then press play. Maybe listen to the episode on world building or their series on Link's Awakening/Sandman: A Game of You. I remember them having a super fun and handsome guest on those episodes. You can tell he is handsome by the sound of his voice!
Confusing title I know, but it will totally make sense once you listen to it. I am joined by my friend Grace to talk about D&D, the Dark Tower, Dresden Files, and our general disappointment in various fandoms!
Bust out the spurs and your favorite pair of chaps, we are talking about Lonesome Dove. My brother Tony and I spend a long time talking about one of our favorite mutual works of fiction.
As the phoenix doth rise from the ashes, so do I within the confines of my own podcase. Finally, the last part of our Facebook Live playthrough of A Day at the Races. More episodes to come (hopefully) soon!
Part 2/3 of our Facebook Live playthrough of A Day at the Races! This was seriously so much fun to run, and listening to all of these parts makes me so happy. The gang begins the epic Dino-race, doing all sorts of sick stunts and having deep religious epiphanies along the way, eventually dealing with the fallout of the race's conclusion.
Part one of our Facebook Live streaming session! Featuring: -Oliver Schmidtz as Symphoneus -Logan Nielsen as Olie McTwist -Karl Kramer as Toofer Bronson -Me as the DM Eventually, more to come, probably!
Baby, can you dig your man? And by your man, I mean me talking about Sai King? M-O-O-N, that spells podcast! I am joined by my ka-mate Patty (aka @pattyisbooked on the Instagram that all the kids use) as we make our Stand discussing all things King. Don't forget the face of your father! Stand and be true! Beep-beep listener! You don't tell me, I'll tell you!!!
Looks like those bad bois (and the one female) are back at it again. This is the second part of that night we started that high level adventure waaaaay back before Big Rona. Oh what sweet summer children we were back then. One of these days, we are going to find out why this Isle is so damn Mysterious!
So this is just straight up ripped audio from the first Facebook live stream Schmity and I did a while back. I This is the first of a new series I will be putting up here on the podcast feed, primarily because it is easy for me to upload them. However, you should check out my good friend Oliver "Schmidty" Schmitz, aka The Comedic Dragon. Just Google him, or listen to where he says you can find him in the episode. He is a wicked cool dude.
Its been a bit, but I'm back at it with another spicy interview. This time, I had the honor of chatting with my good friend Diana about books. That's it... basically just books. She and her husband (who happens to be one of my best friends as well) will be moving to my town in the very near future, so this episode is dedicated to that happening!
We are back with another discussion episode, this time with one of my oldest friends Jansen. This is one spicy boi dad who isn't afraid to get nerdy and derdy, so you KNOW this ep is bound to be one spicy meat-a-ball!
After many moons and broken promises, we are finally publishing some actual play. This particular adventure is neither The Sunless Citadel and is in fact Adventurer's League content, so I am a liar on 2 accounts. However, it was very fun to see what crazy goofs could be had at level 17. This particular Adventure is DDAL 05-18 "The Mysterious Isle"
This truly was a joy to record. I am joined by my good pal, he of many names: Schmidty, The Comedic Dragon, Oliver, the Sexiest Man this side of the Mississippi, etc. We of course spend an almost embarassingly long talk discussing our theories on D&D. Please go ahead and check out the cool creative stuff he is providing for the world!
Here we have another hot one in the Luke Interview Series of the Rules Lawyers. Today, I had a lovely discussion with my bud Peter of the Game and Read podcast. We discuss his history with D&D, painting minis, DMing styles, and those precious few times of actually being able to play a PC. Be sure to follow this crazy guy over on Twitter at @Nerdintheworld and listen to Game and Read. Its truly very well done.
This is the first full episode I was able to record since my twins were born, so it was bound to be a bit scattered. However, I am happy with how it turned out and with being able to do it at all. My good buddy Jordan "Speedo" Sprunger talk about a smattering of topics, including but not limited to, D&D, MtG, Netflix adaptations, nerd books, and MUCH MORE!
So the auido quality wasn't all that great with this one, due to a classic "Luke Whoopsie-Doodles," but we still had a good time recording it. We have a table of most of the crew who plays at my table of DotMM, with a bonus addition of Matthew, who just happened to be at his house while we recorded there. The group discusses the pros and cons of the module, as well as some of our favorite elements, OC of Wizards or of Luke.
Being that I had just came out with a solo-rant on a comparison of ASOIAF and D&D, I figured why not do another one, but with another dude? On this episode I was joined with my good bud Karl, where we discuss a lot of ASOIAF, some D&D, a healthy dash of Lovecraft, and a sprinkling of Dan Simmons. We have a twitter: @RulesLawyerz But more importantly, check out the @LittleGreyBoy2 for other great podcast creators!
The verdict is in. Courage the Cowardly Dog has been sentanced as being super rad. I talk with Kylie from the Coffee Fueled Rampage Podcast about our mutual love for everyone's favorite little pink dog. Not really realted to D&D, but I'm willing to make that sacrifice to for my main fiction pup. Check Kylie and her show out on Twitter @coffeefuelramp also us on Twitter @RulesLawyerz
I sure hope you like acronyms. The title has plenty of them. This is a bit of an experimental episode where the for the first time I am flying solo. My mind has been bursting at the seams with thoughts on A Song of Ice and Fire+Dungeons and Dragons, and your ears are the trash can I have chosen to throw it all up in to. If anyone would like to add to this, feel free to hit me up either on my reddit or on our twitter: @RulesLawyers @LittleGreyBoy2
Fellow Travelers, we are back after our long hiatus to bring you some of the worst homebrew options the internet had to offer. After a brief discussion on some more serious and decent homebrew topics, we basically spend about 75% of the episode ripping on bad examples of homebrew races and classes we found on the internet, which is honestly what we really wanted to do in the first place. In this very special episode of Rules Lawyers After Dark, we are joined by my very own brother, Pumba. Twitter: @RulesLawyerz @LittleGreyBoy2
Well everyone, here it is. The final episode of what I have been calling the Goat Pimps Saga. Oddly, we even have (at least I feel we have) been able to provide some small feelings of resolution and symmetry the the past two years or seemingly random adventures. As an emotioal fella, I can't help but feel a little sad to say goodbye to these characters, but I can promise that Jacey Lakims at least will be back in one of our Tales from the Yawning Portal adventures. But enough of the sappy talk. Here it is. Twitter: @RulesLawyerz @LittleGreyBoy2
Yeah, the title didn't match up to the last actual play episode, but you know what? Screw you! You'll take it and like it! Or not, but that's like, your prerogative man. @RulesLawyerz @LittleGreyBoy2
BAM!!! COLABO!!! This episode, Luke talks with Kylie from the Coffee Fueled Rampage podcast about D&D. Bet you didn't see that one comin', didn't ya?! However, not all is happy goof goof time. The Oldest Enemy to podcast folk all around pays us a vist... that's right... The Audio Hobgoblin! Follow Kylie/Coffee Fueled Rampage @coffeefuelramp on Twitter! Follow The Little Grey Boy Network @LittleGreyBoy2 where a lot of cool indi-podcasters hang out
Ok, I swear, we actually did record the ending of the Goat Pimps! Welcome to part 1 of 3 of said recording! ~Twitter~ @RulesLawyerz @LittleGreyBoy2
Back by popular demand, we present the return of the really long rambling episode with little to no discernable direction! In the house we have (who else but) Luke, Paul, Dylan, Kyle, Ivy, and Andy. Topics of interest include the our own favorite catchphrases, the lamest subclasses, and more on our still healig wounds from previous bad DMs!
In this episode too hot that even we couldn't finish it, we say goodbye to a character beloved by all as we see the birth a new favorite. The polls are in; everyone loves Jake!!!
This is a big boi. We basically just BS about, like, 95% of the published 5e D&D races. There are definately some duds, as well as some studs.
As we get the full crew back to playing in Goat Pimp Land, we provide further contemplation on the how we would like to see this story come to an end. The Desolate Undercroft continues to become more and more desolate, Daine continues to age to the point of full organ failure, and we get our first look at the newest member of the crew: Rosita. Follow us on Twitter or whatever at @RulesLawyerz
Spanking you in the butt with another Rules Lawyers After Dark. Today, we are talking about world building with a partial crew. We've got Luke (obviously), Andy, Matthew, and Hooah letting you know our objective opinons on what is best in regards to world building. I also got kind of weird with the mid-way-break music, and in retrospect I'm not a huge fan. Eh, whatevs. Twitter: @RulesLawyerz
Ok, so for real, it was a while ago from when we played this, and then some time went by since I finsihed editing the whole thing, so I'm going to try to remember what all happened in this one. So, the Goat Pimps all show up in a big room that leads off to like, 6 different hallways. Once they are there, they hear Lafty's voice for the first time in a while and apperently he's around and can be heard in their heads. He is continuing his work for the AL Fairy, found big time loot, and has become magically trapped in some sort of room (that might be the same room they hear him in?) and so they take a way long time using Augury, basically ending in a random choice, to go down a hall way where they find a at least a few jars of piss, and then eventually there is a fight. I feel like I did a good job summarizing. If I didn't do a good job of summarizing, or if you've noticed any glaring typos in my description, feel free to tweet us at @RulesLawyerz
Hey, y'all ready for a weird one? Like a really weird one? We haven't had one of those in a while. In this episode of Rules Lawyers After Dark, we have an improptu discussion on (amungst other things) which acquatic PC race is superior. The Rules Lawyers also welcomes the first, and hopefully not last, appearance of Ivy! Twitter: @RulesLawyerz
Still with no sign of Daine in sight, the Goat Pimps and Special Guest Jybbeenk continue forth towards their destiny. We are introduced to the new surrogate Pipey (the new NPC craze sweeping the nation) as well as Luke's IRL puppy, Jacey Not Lakims the Pupper! And dont forget to join us in the mid-way break to catch up on all the hot Luke related goss!!!
The Goat Pimps (along with their special guest, Jybbeenk) were just starting to get setteled in that once named but now forgotten mountain town, when they realized they have one last job to take care of. With only 2 more days until retirement, they (minus 1 King Daine) head back up to the top of the mountain to finally conquer The Ruined Tower of the Tempest Mage.
We did it folks. We finally reached the end of the Clockwork Laboratory. Just one more mod before we say goodbye to Adventurer's League for ever. It'll be just like the Avengers, I swear.
The portal to the lower level of the Clockwork Laboratory opens, revealing a Goonie shot of the Goat Pimps looking down into it, evoking all sorts of nostalgia. Daine immediately disappears, leaving the rest of the crew to face the inevitabe horros themselves. Merry Krimbus y'all
The name says it all. Everyone, bow to your new masters. I for one welcome our new rug overlords.
This one was a pleasure to edit. I meantion it during the midway break, as well as tease it in the opening, but the ending of this episode has my absolute favorite joke we have ever done. Without a doubt, the hardest i have ever laughed on this show, with these fools, or in my life. Marking it; favorite episode thus far.
