Bible Fruit (totally not a VeggieTales ripoff) is one of the strongest Aqua Teen episodes, and has a heck of a history around it. The incident occurred at Lakeside at Town Center on Williams Drive. Officer Chuck McPhilamy stated that the attacker was someone known to Wollery, withholding the person's identity as authorities search for the suspect. Wollery's coworkers discovered her body when they visited her apartment after she failed to show up for work. The apartment was unlocked, and evidence suggests the suspect fled the scene after the attack. Police are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta at 404-577-8477. STORY 2: Mail processing in Georgia improving but delays continue Recently, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy updated U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff on improvements at USPS's Palmetto regional facility, stating 64.5% of first-class mail was delivered on time between May 18 and 24, up from a low of 35.8% in mid-March. Despite progress, delays persist due to past legislation and infrastructure challenges. DeJoy paused a restructuring plan, added staff to Palmetto, and adjusted transport schedules. Ossoff has advocated for resolution, noting ongoing issues for Georgia residents. DeJoy reported 85.4% of packages delivered on time as of May 31, with no delays in the June 9 primaries' mail-in ballots. STORY 3: 1 Killed, 1 Injured in Crash After Police Chase Early Monday morning, a car fleeing from Cobb Police crashed in a neighborhood north of Kennesaw State University, resulting in the death of the driver. The incident began when an officer attempted to stop a speeding 2013 BMW X5 on Barrett Parkway. The driver evaded the officer, prompting a pursuit that was quickly terminated due to safety concerns. The car subsequently veered off Frey Road, colliding with trees before coming to a stop in a wooded area. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cobb County Medical Examiner, while a passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Cobb County Police Department STEP Unit.     We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. While an investigation found the claims against Beverly unsubstantiated legally, Rep. Teri Anulewicz, D-Smyrna, emphasized that ethical boundaries had been crossed, despite legality. Rep. Lisa Campbell, D-Kennesaw, also condemned Beverly's alleged actions, citing inappropriate physical contact and discriminatory behavior. Calls for Beverly's resignation or removal from leadership have been met with varying responses, amid concerns over political implications and maintaining ethical standards within the Democratic Party. STORY 7: Fire Displaces 30 at Marietta Extended Stay Hotel A fire at the Metro Extended Stay Hotel in Marietta displaced 30 residents on Saturday morning. The fire, which started on the third floor around 10:30 a.m., affected five rooms directly, with 30 to 40 additional rooms sustaining water damage. Officials, including Capt. Steven Dau of the Marietta Fire Department, have not determined the exact cause but stated there's no evidence of criminal activity. Residents reported rumors of someone grilling indoors, but this remains unconfirmed. Emergency responders helped evacuate residents like Stevie Ray Anderson and Jim McCurry, who alerted others and witnessed the fire's rapid spread. Relief efforts coordinated by local organizations like MUST Ministries and the American Red Cross provided temporary housing and support to affected families as they navigate recovery. This time on the Rocky Mountain Writer podcast, we get to know the folks behind the Writers Who Read podcast — Gary McBride, Mira Landry, and Whitney Pinion. ++ Gary McBride founded the Writers Who Read novel study group back in August of 2018. After meeting at the Boulder Book Store, the group moved to the Boulder Public Library in 2019 after its adoption as part of the Boulder Writers Alliance. Gary McBride lives just outside of Boulder with his wife Deb and their cats Wallace and Vincenzo. A fourth-generation Denverite, Gary has visited over 70 countries, worked in more than 50 of them, and lived for over a decade in Europe and Southeast Asia. Gary has written a reference guide for Writers Who Read, entitled Literary Forensics, which will be published in 2024. ++ Born and raised in British Columbia, Mira Landry now resides in Colorado with her husband. She has a Creative Writing Certificate from Simon Fraser University, and works both as an associate literary agent at Corvisiero Literary Agency and as a wedding and portrait photographer. She serves on the board of directors for Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers, and when not writing, she can be found frolicking on the high peaks of the Rockies or knitting sweaters that likely won't fit anyone properly. ++ Whitney Pinion fell in love with books when her parents gave her a set of mystery-adventure stories in which she and her cousins and friends were the main characters. She wrote poetry as a kid—and in college—where she studied literature and earned a BA in English. After working her way up from editorial assistant to magazine editor at a publishing company in Washington, DC, she and her husband moved to the Bay Area, where she further honed her writing and editing skills at a San Francisco PR firm. The drive to write more meaningful stories led her back to school, where she earned a Master's in English and Creative Writing.  Whitney has written a collection of short stories and is working on a novel. When she isn't reading or writing, she's hiking with her family in the stunning Colorado mountains, trying out new recipes (like cocktails for the next Writers Who Read podcast), and traveling. She lives with her husband and son in Boulder. Flashback Friday: Episode 293, how to build a literary life with Zibby Owens.

#AmWriting

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 24, 2023 44:48

Writers, if you're paying attention at all, you've heard from Zibby Owens in the past 2 years. She's the host of the Moms Don't Have Time to Read Podcast and the creator of Zibby Media, which at this point includes a magazine, a publishing house that's having a great month with, among other books, The Last Love Note, which KJ highly recommends and an LA-based bookstore. In 2022, Jess talked with Zibby about how she launched her literary life--and as that life gets bigger and bigger, we thought it was time to share her story again. Ever want to know “how she did it”? This episode is our little version of How I Built This, in which we ask Zibby Owens—whose name you surely know by now—about how she turned a desire to be part of the world of books into a one-woman mini book empire.Zibby Owens is the host of Moms Don't Have Time to Read, a daily podcast featuring interviews with authors that has over 900 episodes. She's also a Bookstagrammer with 16K followers, the host of a second podcast—Moms Don't Have Time to Have Sex—the editor of two anthologies, Moms Don't Have Time To and Moms Don't Have Time to Have Kids—KJ contributed to that last one—and now the CEO of Zibby Books, a new publishing home for fiction and memoir. She's a regular contributor to Good Morning America, she's been called “America's Top Bookfluencer” and she has two books coming soon: Princess Charming, a picture book, and Booked, a memoir. She's also got four kids, and they're kids—elementary and middle school age, not a bunch of independent high schoolers wandering aroundBut.Five years ago Zibby was none of those things (except a mother of four). And that's what I want to talk about. She's built a massive literary life, a community, a reputation in just a few years, and—after totally owning the fact that she has help with her kids (heck, not just help, they're completely gone every other weekend because, divorce sometimes works like that) and also that this isn't how Zibby earns a living— we go back to the beginning and talk about what it took to get there.Because no matter who you are, you can't wake up and say, I think I'd like to be America's Biggest Bookfluencer, and whip out your Amex card and make it happen. You can't even take your Kardashian self and decide this is what you want and ask your assistant to set it up. This takes work and desire and passion, and we dig into how Zibby started, and how she made things take off.Links from the pod:Lee Carpenter: Red, White, Blue and ElevenAndre Agassi: OpenZibby BooksZibby Books Ambassadors (at bottom of Zibby Books page)#AmReadingZibby: Going There by Katie CouricHungry Hill by Eileen Patricia CurranThe Husbands by Chandler BakerThe Last Season by Jenny Judson & Danielle MahfoodKJ: A Spindle Splintered by Alix E.
