*This is the Free Content version of my interview with Dr. Lars de Wildt. To access the entire episode, please consider becoming a Tier 1 'Gates of Argonath' member on Patreon, or you can purchase this episode for a one-time fee. My guest this month is Dr. Lars de Wildt. Lars is Assistant Professor in Media and Cultural Industries at the Centre for Media and Journalism Studies, at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands.Lars studies how media cultures and industries make contemporary worldviews. Examples are how media industries construct 'global' culture and how local audiences consume it; how Western game developers sold religion to secular audiences; how online platforms birth conspiracy theories; and how Western videogames adapt to Chinese players and policies. His first book, The Pop Theology of Videogames: Producing and Playing with Religion was published Open Access with Amsterdam University Press. Lars was part of the AHRC-funded project "Everything Is Connected: Conspiracy Theories in the Age of the Internet," was previously a (visiting) researcher at the universities of Leuven, Heidelberg, Bremen, Tampere, Jyväskylä, Montréal, and Deakin, and is working on an NWO Veni project about how the hegemonic worldviews of Western videogames adapt to Chinese players and policies. He is also a Member of YARN (Young ARts Network), anEssay-editor of Tijdschrift Sociologie/ Sociology Magazine, a Fellow at the Centre for Religion, Conflict and Globalization, at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, a Member of Faculty of the Consultative Body for Teaching Policy (FOO), and a Research Fellow at the Institute for Media Studies, at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium. In this interview, Lars discusses his book The Pop Theology of Videogames: Producing and Playing with Religion. In it, he is offered up the question by a game designer, “what does religion have to do with video games, anyway?” This question opens our discussion on the relationship between games and religion, the differences between developers and players approaches to gaming, how video games can affect players' worldviews, and how role-playing games can potentially contribute to a sense of personal identity. These are just a few of the points Lars covers in this interview. PROGRAM NOTESDr. Lars de Wildt - dr. L.A.W.J. U.S. Global Investors CEO Frank Holmes joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss a seismic shift in the financial treatment of gold ahead of new Basel III regulations set to take effect on July 1, 2025. Under the updated rules, physical gold will be recognized as a Tier 1 High-Quality Liquid Asset (HQLA) — the same category as cash and government bonds — fundamentally changing how banks and institutions view and utilize gold. “This reclassification legitimizes gold as cash or better than cash,” Holmes stated, emphasizing that the change could eliminate existing regulatory disincentives and fuel substantial new institutional demand. By elevating physical gold's liquidity status, Basel III could incentivize banks, particularly in Europe and Canada, to hold more gold as part of their reserve requirements. Holmes also highlighted broader macroeconomic tailwinds, including surging M2 money supply growth in China and India — historically strong precursors to rising gold prices — as well as escalating global de-dollarization efforts and central bank gold accumulation. He cited monetary policies across countries representing over 40% of the global population as further catalysts. Reflecting these trends, Holmes revised his long-term gold forecast upward, now projecting USD 6,000 per ounce by the end of a potential second Trump presidency, pointing to favorable policy conditions and accelerating monetary expansion. With Basel III implementation looming, Holmes believes this could mark a historic turning point in gold's role within the global financial system. #proactiveinvestors #usglobalinvestorsinc #nasdaq #grow #etf #trip #travel #colombia #WARETF #DefenceSpending #Cybersecurity #Semiconductors #Aerospace #SmartBeta #ETFs #NYSE

Roger Rosmus, Founder, CEO, & Director of Goliath Resources (TSX.V: GOT) (OTCQB: GOTRF) and Randall Karcher PHD student at the Colorado School of Mines, both join me to review the recent detailed geological study that was recently completed by the Colorado School of Mines, utilizing a compilation of drill holes and geological data. Conclusions of the geological study confirm a new interpretation of the ore forming process of high-grade gold mineralization at Surebet and confirms common causative Reduced Intrusion Related Gold (RIRG) source with tremendous untapped discovery potential at the Golddigger Project in the Golden Triangle of British Columbia. Randall outlines the two stages of gold mineralization clearly associated with a RIRG system as well as the areas where there is an overlap in mineralization and alteration ages for shear hosted veins and dykes, and paragenetic relationships of minerals consistent with alteration occurring from a cooling hydrothermal system. These strongly indicate a common RIRG feeder source at Surebet, and this new understanding will considering in the coming 2025 drill program. Next we got into the details of the initiative last year to relog many drill core intercepts showing these RIRG dyke mineralization, from prior year's exploration programs in 2021-2023. Results confirmed multiple intercepts of an intrusion related feeder dyke system that remains open, strongly indicating close proximity to a large gold-rich intrusive source. This reduced intrusion mineralization will continue to be a focus of follow-up relogging and new drill targets for this year's program, with the plans to get more prioritized core sent back off to the assay labs in May, once the team gets mobilized at camp. Roger shares the financial health of the Company treasury and that warrants have been getting exercised bringing in more funds, and other warrants that are in the money will likely also get exercised over the course of the year. This allows the team to hit the ground running funded to get this year's exploration program underway once the snows have melted. If you have any questions for Roger about Goliath Resources, then please email me at Shad@kereport.com and then we'll get those answered or covered in a future interviews. As we explore what inclusive education means, we need to talk about what it means to create truly inclusive schoolwide systems, data, and practices. If schoolwide means all students have access to the same foundational features, how do you ensure “all” really means “all” in your Tier 1 PBIS implementation? Joining us to help answer this question is Dr. Sheldon Loman from Portland State University (PSU). Sheldon is a Professor in the Special Education Department at PSU. He has a passion for researching and teaching about inclusive practices to support students with extensive support needs. Most recently, his research explores universal design and how to make schoolwide PBIS more inclusive of students with extensive support needs. Before his work at PSU, Sheldon was a special education teacher and positive behavior support coordinator in a diverse, urban school district in California. Teachers and school leaders often feel like they have to be “everything to everyone”. Not only are educators expected to deliver high-quality instruction in traditional academic areas, they're also expected to provide social-emotional support, vocational training, and everything in between. When it comes to supporting mental health, this can be a tricky ethical line to walk when you're trained as a teacher and not as a clinician. Additionally, school staff are constantly trying to manage their own mental health needs, which is a challenge when the public tends to be unforgiving. That's why I invited Dr. Hayley Watson to episode 198 of De Facto Leaders to talk about how to help teachers support mental health in a way that falls within their scope. Dr. Hayley Watson is the founder and CEO of Open Parachute, a Tier 1 K-12 curriculum program that supports the mental health of students, teachers, and parents. She is also an author and Clinical Psychologist and holds a PhD in school bullying interventions. She has been creating and delivering programs for youth and practitioners across the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia for the past 20 years. In this conversation, we discuss:✅Special education accommodations feel like “extra” work for teachers: Embedding mental health into Tier 1 curriculum solves this problem.✅Why talking about mental health in general education helps educate peers on diverse learning needs.✅Destigmatizing mental health and giving youth the language to talk about self-regulation and self-care. ✅Service delivery models: Why we need BOTH structured, explicit intervention and real-life practice in social-emotional curriculums. You can learn more about Open Parachute and Dr. Watson's mental health curriculum for schools on her website here: https://openparachuteschools.com/Listen to her TEDx talk “Youth Mental Health is not as complicated as we make it out to be” here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVZdMXK4kvk&t=2shttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVZdMXK4kvk&t=2sConnect with Dr. Watson on LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-hayley-watson-2b249a16/In this conversation, I mentioned this previous episode: EP 151: Does your system support your policy and your curriculum (with Jalita Johnson) here: https://drkarendudekbrannan.com/ep-151-does-your-system-support-your-policy-and-your-curriculum-with-jalita-johnson/In this episode, I mention the School of Clinical Leadership, my program that helps related service providers develop a strategic plan for putting executive functioning support in place in collaboration with their school teams. You can learn more about that program here: https://drkarendudekbrannan.com/clinicalleadership We're thrilled to be sponsored by IXL. Willard and Dibs debate if the 49ers are a "tier 1" NFL team when it comes to their head coach and quarterback combination. Is that fair?
