In past episodes we've talked about strategies you can use with clients to improve their chances of success in mediation. But today we dig into the importance of choosing the right mediator and what to do if your mediator or your client's mediator seems to be the one complicating the process. We review the role of a mediator and some of the professional ethics they are bound by because one thing that can cause problems is when clients don't have a clear understanding of what the process is (and what it isn't).Then we offer up 8 important questions for your client to ask any mediator they are considering working with. And we identify 4 red flags to watch out for during the mediation process. Finally, we discuss 4 courses of action someone can take if they feel like their mediator is conducting themselves in a manner that violates the standards of neutrality, impartiality or self-determination.Just like every other part of their divorce, we encourage clients to take charge of their own process and that includes any professionals they hire to assist them. Daylight saving time. When it happens twice a year, do you find yourself forgetting which one is the “bad one”? We know “spring forward, fall back”, and the “spring forward” part sounds deceptively perky and positive, but really it's the BAD ONE! Meaning, we lose an hour by shifting the clock forward. What a crock! Our circadian rhythms are so interesting, and drive so many facets of our physical and mental health. A recent article posted by Rush University Medical Center highlighted the detrimental effects that spring daylight saving time can wreak on our bodies and minds. The article features sleep medicine specialist, James Wyatt, PhD (who coincidentally taught Jeremy and Julie about sleep medicine in medical school!), who explains how the sleep science community recognizes the research-backed hypothesis that daylight saving time poses risks to our health. While the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, as well as more than a dozen other organizations, publicly recognize that public health and safety would benefit from the elimination of daylight saving time, there's no way to know if the policy will ever change in the US. So, since we are forced to “spring forward” this Sunday, March 10th, we decided to devote an episode to how the time shift affects us, and if we can take steps to mitigate the disruption we feel during daylight saving time! Also, enjoy a little dessert story, brought to our attention by our friends from the Bananas podcast, Kurt Braunohler and Scotty Landes, where we discuss the "VIBES pill", an ingestible motorized vibrating pill currently under research, that, when ingested before a meal, mimics the feeling of fullness. What a strange world we live in, folks! So, friends, are you ready to spring into action?? Resources for today's episode include: A Rush Stories article titled "Dreading the Spring Forward? You're Not Alone." A Johns Hopkins article titled "7 Things to Know About Daylight Savings Time." The American Academy of Sleep Medicine 2019 Sleep Prioritization Study results. A Science Daily article highlighting a study by the American Academy of Neurology, titled "Does daylight saving time increase risk of stroke?" A Meta-Analysis." A December 2023 article in Science Advances titled "A vibrating ingestible bioelectronic stimulator modulates gastric stretch receptors for illusory satiety." Ok. Sometimes a podcast lingers too long, and you just need to get it out there and over with. I meant to put this out about a month ago, but got waylaid by a work trip, disease, and a weeklong internet outage (all of the above to be discussed in Eppy 131). Podcast Constipation….. On the other hand, I butcher the Hungarian language and give my impressions of Cats (the musical the movie) and why it is so much worse that I could have ever imaged. No music featured in this one, but we discuss KIÉGETT FÖLD, Cosmic Joke, and Gaupa The next one will be better, I promise

When I teach how to create habits, I inevitably get questions about what to do about bad habits. In fact, I recently received a voicemail from a Progressor named Amy, asking this very question. She gave me permission to dive into her bad habit for all of us to hear, because I think it's something that many of us wish we could change: spending unnecessary time on our cell phones. The illusion persists, despite all evidence. Americans are pessimistic about the economic future. They feel worse off than their parent's generation. Poll after poll shows that at best, only twenty percent of Americans say the economy is doing better than it was a year ago. More than twenty percent of Americans are doing better than they were a year ago, by many measures. Unemployment is lower, wages are growing, inflation is declining. This is true for Americans across ages and classes. These are tangible improvements in household income that should be cheering people up. They are not. Why? What trick is our minds playing on us that we can't feel hopeful? Gilad Edelman, a senior editor at The Atlantic who covers the economy, answers the mystery. Couples. There are those who spurred each other on in Godly ways, a united pairing displaying God's glory. And I thought of couples who spurred each other on to evil deeds and eventually fell. And then couples where only one of the two was obedient and faithful and hung in there to give God glory. Let's take a look at a few, and not the most famous ones, either. In this blockbusting episode of Sorry, We Tried, we're persisting in our excruciating return trip to the murky waters of the DCEU! Each film brings us further and further into the epicenter of pain. This is especially true with this week's movie--- the horrific Justice League (2017) film that failed so badly that the franchise never recovered. There's a lot to analyze here, including the music, the writing, and most importantly, the direction (*cough, cough*). Buckle up, folks, you're in for a wild ride! Also in this episode, Harrison has an epiphany about Joss Whedon's twisted psychology. Robby finds a new level of peace about his Justice League (2017) trauma. Spencer realizes exactly how long it's been since the last episode. What does it mean to be a B Corp? Adam sits down with former GearJunkie editor Sam Anderson to discuss his deep dive on Benefit Corporations, what it means to receive a B Corp certification, and why some companies aren’t recertifying — and why it doesn’t mean what you might think. With the story of Chris King, a bicycle component manufacturer, Sam explains that what started as a means to hold companies accountable to sustainable practices has become a “marketing machine with a fading mission.” From bicycle parts to aluminum coffee capsules, Sam and Adam talk through the dynamics of B Corp certification, and why it might not be the sustainability indicator we once thought it was.
