Law Enforcement in this country kills approximately 1,200 people every single year and yet the names of many are never said or known except to their families and friends. What's more, law enforcement agencies and other state actors harm our community in a myriad of ways that also go unnoticed like profiling, assaulting and wrongfully incarcerating our people. If we don't know its happening – then we can't fight back. We cant adequately organize a response. So, every week on Law & Disorder we do a round up of news related to state violence. We hope this segment will serve to expose, agitate and build. This is the State Terror Round Up for the week of April 14th, 2025. —- This episode featured music by Kofy Brown. Is our rules-based world finished? This week, Nick Cohen discusses the current & disturbing breakdown in international law - in the week indicted alleged war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu was the first overseas guest of convicted felon President Donald Trump with author & campaigner Steve Crawshaw, the author of the just published Prosecuting the powerful: War crimes & the pursuit of justice.A world run by bad men was never going to improve the international rule of LawDonald Trump, Vladamir Putin & Xi Jinping - let alone their 'mini mes' in Hungary, Israel & elsewhere - are proving a toxic combo' for the maintenance of a new world order that came into being in the wake of the Nuremberg trials. Slobodan Milošević, Ratko Mladić and 19 other individuals have been jailed by the International Criminal Court at The Hague for crimes ranging from genocide to war crimes and crimes against humanity. Bringing powerful political crooks seemed to usher in a new age of international justice. Yet now indicted personalities such as Putin remain at large, while Benjamin Netanyahu is feted by Donald Trump, himself the first convicted felon to occupy the White House.Trump has just issued sanction against the ICC and its senior officials, partly in retaliation for their indictment of Netanyahu! What can we do to stop our world reversing into a new international disorder? As we've done just about every Monday since October of last year, Law & Disorder returns to our recurring segment – The Palestine Post, discussing the latest news from Israel's genocide in Gaza and on their border regions, and the efforts that people are taking around the world, to stop it. In this episode we're in conversation with two healthcare workers who've been on medical missions to Gaza, one of whom also recently returned from a medical mission to Lebanon after Israel's bombing campaign there. We're joined by Bridget Rochios, a registered nurse and women's health nurse practitioner and nurse midwife in the Bay Area. Bridget traveled to Gaza in May to volunteer at a maternity hospital. Since then, she's faced consequences at her local job for wearing a pin depicting a watermelon. We're also joined by Dr. Mohammad Subeh, a Palestinian American emergency room doctor at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View. He recently returned home from Lebanon in his third medical mission to the region in the past year, to provide emergency medical care amid Israel's various bombardments. —- Subscribe to this podcast: https://plinkhq.com/i/1637968343?to=page Get in touch: lawanddisorder@kpfa.org Follow us on socials @LawAndDis: https://twitter.com/LawAndDis; https://www.instagram.com/lawanddis/ The post Palestine Post: Healthcare Workers Reportback from Gaza and Lebanon, Facing Repression on Return to CA appeared first on KPFA.

The mission of Law & Disorder is to expose, agitate and build a new world where all of us can thrive. But how do we get there? How do we build a world many of us have only seen in our dreams? That's where we believe the artists come in. So, each week we feature an artist, holding down a weekly residency with us, helping us to imagine a different, more liberated world. This week's Resistance in Residence artists are Gabriele Christian and Chibueze Crouch who make up the performance duo OysterKnife. Aside from better infrastructure, varying and incongruent laws make biking very challenging. Should I ride on the sidewalk, or on the road? Where do I belong? Will I actually get a ticket if I make a judgement call? Through the wacky ways that we regulate bikes in the states, we see starkly how they are not viewed as a viable transportation method (yet). We scratch the surface on the head-scratching confusion; it's no wonder that folks are too overwhelmed and afraid to start biking, even if they want to. Rest in Peace, Johnny Gaudreau. We discuss: 00:00 Briefly on Johnny Gaudreau's death. 04:08 Cars and alcohol. 08:52 Legal inconsistencies in cycling and bike laws. 21:03 The Idaho Stop and its benefits. 24:42 Wrapping up. The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating the Phoenix Police Department for potential civil rights violations, following widespread issues in the department as well as the police killing of Jacob Harris. This is is a case that we've covered a handful of times on Law & Disorder, but in the latest round of issues, community members say that Phoenix city officials are actively getting in the way of the Department of Justice inquiry, and they've had enough. Joining us to discuss is Meg O'Connor, an award-winning Senior Reporter for The Appeal, covering police, prosecutors, and the criminal legal system. Her latest piece is called Phoenix Police Victims Want City to Stop Interfering with Federal Probe. Saturday, January 27th, marked the UN-recognized International Holocaust Remembrance Day. For that commemoration, the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network (IJAN) hosted a webinar panel, discussing Israel's misuse of the Nazi genocide to justify the genocide of Palestinians. Our podcast episode brings audio from that webinar, which featured an international panel of anti-zionist and internationalist activists discussing the urgent need for a remembrance of the Jewish Holocaust that is distinct from Israel's settler colonial project, and how Israel's weaponization of that history impacts their communities. The panel is co-moderated by our Law & Disorder co-host Jesse Strauss along with David Comedi from the Argentinian chapter of IJAN, with the following guests: Monadel Herzallah, a Palestinian with the US Palestinian Community Network (USPCN) and a plaintiff in the US-based Defense for Children International – Palestine v. We'll spend this hour with voices and reflections on Israel's bombardment of Gaza with some of the powerful voices in our communities. We'll start with Nadya Tannous, who has been organizing to stop Israel's ongoing genocide in Gaza, as a member of the Palestinian Youth Movement. She is a passionate community organizer and writer, born and raised in the Bay Area. Nadya is also the Deputy Director of Honor The Earth, an Indigenous-led Environmental Justice organization tackling climate disaster at its root causes. This reflection was recorded at an event at Berkeley's La Peña cultural center on November 19th, called Thangs Taken: Rethinking Thanksgiving. You'll hear Nadya draw connections between indigenous movements here in the colonized united states and in Palestine. Check out the Palestinian Youth Movement's website: https://palestinianyouthmovement.com/ Then, we go to longtime Bay Area activist and educator Rick Ayers. Rick publishes writing on a personal blog every once in a while. We saw his most recent post about the Israeli bombardment of Gaza, called Echoes of the American War in Vietnam, and so, we invited him to contribute it as a commentary to Law & Disorder. Check out Rick Ayers‘ blog: https://rick-ayers.medium.com/ Then, we move to Oakland rapper, musician, and fillmaker Boots Riley, from a speech given during the Jewish anti-zionist occupation of the Oakland federal building that took place on November 20th. Finally, our co-host and producer Jesse Strauss will close out the hour with his own commentary. —- Subscribe to this podcast: https://plinkhq.com/i/1637968343?to=page Get in touch: lawanddisorder@kpfa.org Follow us on socials @LawAndDis: https://twitter.com/LawAndDis; https://www.instagram.com/lawanddis/ The post Palestine Post: Activist Reflections w/ Nadya Tannous, Rick Ayers, Boots Riley & Jesse Strauss appeared first on KPFA.

Law Enforcement in this country kills approximately 1200 people every single year and yet the names of many are never said or known except to their families and friends. What's more, law enforcement agencies and other state actors harm our community in a myriad of ways that also go unnoticed like profiling, sexually assaulting and wrongfully incarcerating our people. Mainstream media's one-sided narrative is doing little more than fueling a unfolding genocide in Gaza. As one of our guests today told us last week – it hasn't happened yet – and it is our voices, bodies and actions that can help stop it. To that end, we are joined by Khury Petersen-Smith, Michael Ratner Middle East Fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies, where he researches U.S. empire, borders, and migration. We are also joined by Zahra Billoo, Executive Director of the Bay Area chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). — Subscribe to this podcast: https://plinkhq.com/i/1637968343?to=page Get in touch: lawanddisorder@kpfa.org Follow us on socials @LawAndDis: https://twitter.com/LawAndDis; https://www.instagram.com/lawanddis/ The post Law & Disorder's Palestine Post w/ Khury Peterson-Smith and Zahra Billoo appeared first on KPFA.
