TW: Discussion of rape and sexual assault In this week's episode, Gwen discusses the important two-facet definition of consent: the explicit 'yes' and the unhindered 'no'. She is joined by Alli Owen, host of the podcast 'Aligned and Alive', where we hear Alli's story of how the elevation of purity over consent contributed to the shame she felt over her own sexual assault, and how she's come to find freedom and healing. Welcome to another opportunity to get vulnerable AF alongside us and our podcast guest Alli Owen. In today's conversation, we learn about Alli's story involving an unexpected sexual trauma, leading to years of seeking external validation, like pursuing a masters degree in engineering, traveling to six different countries, and hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro, all to leave her still scarred. But it was through this fervent seeking that Alli was able to gain confidence, seek out a therapist, and begin to vulnerably own and share her story with others. And that's exactly what she does today with us! Together we unpack how Alli felt following the sexual trauma, why she wasn't able to share her story right then and there, how cultural conditioning can affect a situation like this, what steps she recommends if you find yourself in the same situation, and how she was able to rise up from the painful experience and find her personal power. You'll also hear our personal experiences with losing our virginity, how we communicate with our current partners to create a positive sexual relationship, and a few more personal tidbits that you don't want to miss!
