In this episode, I answer a question about working with children who are being raised in nontraditional family systems, including homes where grandparents or other caregivers play a significant parenting role. I explore the unique challenges that arise when one caregiver embraces child-centered play therapy principles while others continue using more traditional parenting approaches. Rather than viewing these differences as obstacles, I share practical strategies for bringing everyone into the conversation, including involving extended family in parent consultations, using CPRT as a shared learning experience, and helping caregivers understand that they all want the same outcome—a more emotionally healthy, regulated child. I also discuss why consistency matters, but perfection isn't required. When one caregiver faithfully models CCPT principles over time, those attitudes and responses often begin to "bleed" into the rest of the family system. I explain how the therapist can serve as the educator, reducing tension between family members while advocating for the child and the therapeutic process. This episode is full of practical ideas for helping families navigate multigenerational parenting dynamics without losing sight of the healing power of child-centered play therapy. Today I'm sharing a conversation I had with Dennison Joyce on his show Through the Looking Glass, originally aired on WIOX Radio last year (episode #228). Dennison asked me to walk through my program for parents, ROGD Repair, and to break down the framework I call the Trifecta of Social Contagion — the three interlocking forces I believe are driving the epidemic of young people identifying as transgender.Those three forces are: gender identity ideology, woke social justice narratives, and Cluster B personality traits. I explain how these elements work together like a perfectly engineered mind virus, exploiting the unique vulnerabilities of today's youth — their insecurities, rigidity, and need for identity — and how this creates a near-impossible situation for parents trying to help their kids.
