Hey girl, hey, it's TAD day. And it's just the two of us, sharing our truths, in an episode that we meant to do monthssss ago. The original intention was to do an one year anniversary episode and celebrate the abundance of conscious conversation that had taken place. ...... along with the abundance of mistakes! Except a year quickly passed by (funny how that always happens) and we lost track of time. But hey, it doesn't matter if it's been "a year" or three years, we still felt this episode was important and worthy of hitting the record button. So what can you expect in today's conversation? Reflection. Lots of reflection. First, we reflect on how this conversation began and what it was like to start a podcast and speak into the mic those first few times. Hint, hint: we had no clue what we were doing and there's a handful of terrible podcasts in the archives. We then share our favorite podcast episodes, both the ones with guests and between the two us, and yes - the Alfie Diaries made the cut! Of course, we share our biggest takeaways and how showing up, speaking our truth, working together, interviewing others, and daring to change has changed us. And lastly, we talk about the future of Truth + Dare. This is where shit gets real. Why? Because come 2019, we have chosen to discontinue recording and take a step back from the Truth + Dare movement. To hear the whole story with all the meaningful context behind our decision, hit that play button and come listen in. We promise, you will understand what led to our decision and also how to relate this change back to you living your truth. And one more thing girlfriend, we are not going anywhere yet. We will still be sliding into your inbox and earbuds for the rest of 2018, so this isn't goodbye yet, but it wouldn't be "truthful" to not share where our hearts and minds are at. Because hello, this is a podcast reflection episode! And with that said, come hang out with us, reflect on past episodes, and learn about what we feel called to do next.
Have you ever had a pesky health condition pop up that you can't seem to find answers for? You visit the doctor, you do all the "right" things, and still... no relief. Ugh, yeah. We have both been there and know how frustrating it can be. Sometimes, when you've exhausted all other options it's time to think outside the box. Enter today's guest: Medical Intuitive Rachel Reimer Medical intuitive? Say wha?! Yeah, we HAD to have her on the show. Here's how it works: Rachel provides spiritual insight to health care or mental health professionals on clients that want to know more about their health or that feel stuck with their current health situation. These insights help clients understand possible physical, emotional or spiritual roots that are preventing them from better health. Rachel receives her intuitive messages in the form of images, sounds, or feelings. Here are some of the things we discussed during this exchange: Rachel's story: how she learned she had intuitive gifts and what is was like to start using them. How the intuitive reading process goes down when you are one of Rachel's clients. What it's like to have a metaphysical gift and how to OWN it! What's missing from the modern medical community. And the importance of decoding the physical, emotional and spiritual roots of our symptoms. Oh and we almost forgot the best part: she does a reading on us! Right there on the spot. Obviously, we were 100% down to get our woo-woo on and we were pretty intrigued by the things that she shared about us. WARNING: THINGS GET DEEP! …. per usual. Ready to start health hacking and to get metaphysical? Listen now! P.s. - for show notes on today’s episode head here
This week, we're chatting with our dear friend and entrepreneur boss babe, Alyssa Kuzins of the Journal Deck. Think of it as three girlfriends getting together, drinking wine, and leaving it all out on the table. Here’s how it went down: we said “screw it” to the outline we had planned and instead just pressed record. What transcribed was a beautifully healing conversation about: Spaciousness Creativity Certainty Confusion Self-care Practice Patience Entrepreneurship ... and just trying to figure it all out. We’ve never had an episode quite like this, and while it’s a little scary to share this openly with all of you, it’s also really really liberating. Welcome to group therapy, girlfriend style. …. Oh yeah, and if Alyssa’s name is sounds familiar to you, that’s because we’ve actually had her on the show before (TAD #14). She’s kind of a jack of all trades. She’s a yoga/meditation teacher and women’s coach, she’s the creator of the Journal Deck, and she’s the head chief babe of her monthly membership community, the Self Care Collective. Trust us, you want her in your life. Ready to feel the feels?
This week we sit down with self proclaimed Human AF, Peta Kelly. Peta is an entrepreneur (who started making 7 figures in her mid-20's), a speaker, a humanitarian, an environmentalist, a mother, a writer, and THE voice of the Millennial generation. If her name sounds familiar that’s probably because you’ve seen her all over social media, or maybe you own a copy of her new book, Earth is Hiring, or maybe you’ve stumbled upon her lectures, website, or videos. Either way, she’s out there in the world doing pretty epic work and we are thrilled to have her on the show today. …. if you haven’t heard of her, get excited. You’re about to have a new favorite. In today’s conversation, we talk about Peta’s new book: Earth is Hiring. But wait, what exactly is she hiring us to do? Obviously we asked this question and many, many more. Peta deep dives with us about: Sustainability and the meaning, importance, and relevance of conscious enterprise. Money, and why changing our money stories are paramount if we ever want to do the work that matters. Her perspective on this is incredibly important for all of us to hear. Her life motto - WWMND, What Would Mother Nature Do? And how to align our actions with what the Earth needs. Align... that word. We go hard on this topic. As in, what it really is, why it matters when it comes to producing quality and heart-centered work, and how to find it if you feel like you’ve lost it. The meaning of success, how it’s changed and why it’s time to alter our definitions of it ASAP. And finally, masculine vs. feminine energy and how it has nothing to do with “right and wrong” and everything to do with finding your own inner aligned balance of the two. Yeah… we know… it’s a lot. But Peta is just one of those people. She’s packed with inspiration, information, and passion to boot. Her mission is simple: it’s time to inspire a new generation of change makers. We can no longer sit back and wait for change, we must grab it bravely and walk boldly with it to the frontlines, all while honoring the Earth, ourselves, and each other. Ready to get Human AF? Important announcement: the Truth + Dare Book Club Doors are OPEN! Click here to learn more and join the sisterhood. Welcome to a conversation about our favorite topic: books. And not just books in general, but actually reading, finishing, discussing, and applying books to our lives to help us live our truth and dare to change. Over the past six months, we've finished more books, thanks to the Truth + Dare Book Club, then we have in the past three years and now, we're here to share our life-changing-favorite-book recommendations with you. Get ready ladies, we're doing a deep dive into how books can support your quest to LIVE YOUR TRUTH! In today's episode, we share three books that have rocked us to the core, these books are: Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes, Untethered Soul by Michael Singer, and Braving the Wilderness by Brené Brown. You'll hear us share our biggest takeaways from each book and then check in with where we're at with the book's teachings. And per usual, we don't hold anything back. We candidly share with you how these books have challenged us, helped us, and inspired us to stay on the path of living our truth. Which brings us to this important question...... How are your books supporting you? If your initial reaction to this question feels something like this: What books? I can't remember the last time I opened a book, nonetheless finished a book. I don't have time to read books. I'm missing the motivation needed to apply a book's lesson to my life. What personal development book should I even read, because damn, there's so many? Don't fret sister, we've been there, and not yearsssss ago kinda-been-there, like months ago kinda-been-there. This was the exact reason we created the Truth + Dare Book Club, which is now open for you to come join! Let us repeat that: the BOOK CLUB DOORS ARE OPEN!

Ladies, you know that feeling. That feeling when you enjoy an amazing meal. That feeling when a yoga class soothes your soul. That feeling when you connect with a friend and she just gets it. That feeling when you have great sex and all your needs are met. Well let us forewarn you, that's the kinda feeling you're going to experience when you tune into today's podcast. TAD tribe, meet our feminine awakening fairy godmother, Lisa Schrader. Lisa is the founder of Awakening Shakti, and has impacted the lives of thousands of women (for over two decades) as a workshop leader, author, speaker, and certified coach. Her work has been featured on Oprah, VHI, Oxygen, and she sits on the Shift Network faculty as the leader of the global Shakti Summit. As you can see, our fairy godmother has some credentials. But more importantly, Lisa emanates a woman who has awakened her feminine power and lucky for us, she's here to teach us how to do that too. In today's episode, we share many vulnerable conversations with Lisa that center on the struggle of being a modern day woman in a culture that's dominated by masculine behavior. We dive into what awakening Shakti even is (and how to start awakening it), why women have forgotten their inherent feminine nature and how to remember it, why it's important to tune into your natural rhythm based on your life cycle moment, and the complexities behind having an intimate, sensual, fulfilling, and sacred sexual partnership. Yes ladies, we cover all of this. Even how to create the container for sacred sensual sex through small acts like lighting candles, skin to skin practices, and sharing openly and honestly with your partner before "sex" even begins. If you're not feeling a heart flutter yet over today's dare to change episode, we leave you with this quote from Lisa as a final loving nudge to hit that play button and come listen in. "You are of the Earth, you are a spark of divine Shakti energy, the energy of masculine and feminine that occurred in the moment of your conception is what made you and what is still alive in you, and the answers are inside, you can get support from people you trust to help you listen, but those answers live inside of you. You do know. It’s less about achieving and more about remembering.”
Truth bomb TAD Tribe, us two ladies are not sport aficionados, actually we couldn't be anything further from that, so when today's guest reached out to us...... we weren't too sure how this conversation would go. Would we be drowning in sports lingo or would we have a meaningful, live your truth kinda conversation? As you can guess, we had the latter. Ladies, meet Kendall, a women's professional soccer player and the creator of Arrow Living - a blog/podcast that's dedicated to female athletes and helping them play in the most fulfilling way possible. So, what do two women like us have in common with a professional athlete? In today's episode, we unpack this. We touch on what it feels like to be dedicated to something so deeply that you risk your health and livelihood, why letting go is the ultimate freedom, how not having it all figured out is actually beneficial, and why supporting women as a collective is not only important, but how we will change the conversation. And oh, there's one more thing. Kendall had to trudge through terrible setbacks in her career, like an ACL tear and a concussion that lasted over a year, and yet - she still came back to the sport she loves (soccer) and this time, without the attachment that so many of us experience. Ready to listen into a brand new interview? Hit that play button babe, and come meet Kendall with us! Read the episode show notes here. Follow the TAD movement.
Ever interested in how your daily habits become second nature? Or why you practice certain habits on repeat, even though they’re not helping you live your truth? In today’s podcast conversation, we connect with Kate Swoboda – a writer and facilitator on the topic of habit-formation and psychological courage. Kate’s work is grounded in helping individuals and organizations let go of fear-based patters that no longer work for them….. think things like procrastination (our worst enemy), self-sabotage, people pleasing, and perfectionism (another one could do without). But what happens after you let go, what’s the next step? Great question and one that we unpack throughout our conversation today! Kate teaches us that by viewing fear as an old wound, and not something we can get rid of, we can begin to replace our fear-based habits with four research-backed practices that she labels as courage habits (psst: learn more about these habits in her new book). These are: accessing the body, listening with non-attachment, reframing the story, and creating and reaching out to community. You’ll get to hear both how Kate’s used these in her own life, and how she recommends we use them with our personal fear-based, no longer serving us thoughts and actions. We promise, this is a conversation that will have you grabbing your pen (take notes ladies), inspire you to heal your fear, and take action to practice courage today. Hit that play button sisters, come listen in!
Carly here to tell you that today's episode is as raw and real as it gets. Life takes us on all kinds of journeys. My most recent journey lead me onto a sailboat, with Allie and our husbands, to the southern end of the Caribbean. And oh what a journey it has been. One filled with literally every range of emotion: bliss, awe, anger, frustration, confusion, excitement, and all the human feelings in between. There is nothing else like living and traveling on a sailboat. Honestly, nothing. Until you try it, you'd never know if you liked it, loved it, or absolutely hated it. I, myself fell into all three of those categories: I liked it, I loved it, and at times... I really hated it. I kept having this nagging feeling like I was not where I was supposed to be. Do any of you know what I mean? Like you're doing the thing you set out to do (the job, the career, the relationship, whatever), and by the time you get there you realize... this wasn't made for me at all. I started to feel stuck. Like I had so many ideas, goals, and aspirations that I was ready to tackle, but I couldn't do them from where I was. I started realizing that sailing around the world on a sailboat was not my dream, but someone else's. I finally woke up to the realization that it was time for me to be the leader in my own life and to stop following in the footsteps of other people around me. (talkin' to you, Al.) It's time for me to bravely walk into my own greatness. There are things I need to do, a career I need to build, and a calling that I must follow, and it has to happen off of my beloved cubby inside of Alfie. Yup, I'm leaving the boat. Permanently. Am I alone in this? Have you felt like where you are isn't where you belong? Like you're living someone else's dream? Are you ready to take a leap and lead for the first time in your life? Are you scared shitless to do it? All this and more is unpacked in this episode, so don't miss out. Listen in now.
Let's address the elephant in the room. See here's the thing. We talk about journaling a lottttt on this podcast. We invite you to journal alongside us every week (hello weekly journal prompt). We encourage the ladies inside the TAD Book Club to journal alongside the books they read. And, we continue to learn about the profound benefits of journaling both through the content we digest and our personal experiences. That's a lot of journal talk, yeah. But here's the elephant
Become mindful is a huge part of this whole living your truth and daring to change thing. But what does that really mean? We define mindfulness as conscious living aka bringing our awareness to the present moment as often as possible. The best way to kickstart your own mindfulness regimen is to start inside. There’s really only one way to do this… it takes getting quiet, sitting your butt down, and trying to meditate. Meditate. Yes, we said it. Listen, we know that it’s scary. We know how hard it can be to quiet the mental chatter. We know how intimidating it is. We know that there are so many other, important things you have to do everyday. And, we know how ridiculous it sounds to just sit with your eyes closed for extended periods of time… We know! But, we also know how profoundly healing it is. We know that is has transformed our lives. We know that it does fantastic things like increases our patience, improves our creativity, and massively decreases our stress levels. And, we know that it is (probably) the key ingredient missing from your wellness routine. We’re so certain about this that we’ve decided enough is enough, it’s time to de-mystify meditation once and for all. This week, we’re getting our ohm-on, but it’s not exactly in the way you may think. We’re breaking down meditation in order to make it accessible, exciting, and not just something you feel like you need to ‘check off of your list’. We hope that this episode is the kick in the rear you need to finally start adopting a meditation practice of your own, so that you too can experience the profound magic that comes along with this practice. Yes, it really is magical. Like Harry-Potter-wave-your-wand-fly-on-your-broomstick MAGICAL. You deserve to feel your best. You deserve to have a relationship with your intuition. You deserve less stress. You deserve to love the crap out of yourself. Meditation will take you there. For show notes about today's episode, click here!
Welcome to the Alfie Diaries part 2, coming to you live from the island of Grenada. This past month has been filled with joy, laughter, fear, and frustration and there's no better way to cue you in than by bearing our souls on the mic. When you travel anywhere outside of your comfort zone, you are faced with experiences that break you and then make you. Do you know what we mean? The moments where you feel entirely frustrated/overwhelmed/confused are almost always followed up by feelings of strength/self-perseverance/personal growth. That’s exactly what’s happening on the boat. In today’s episode, we’re diving deep (pun intended) into the challenges we’ve faced over the last few weeks and how they’ve helped us change for the better. You can expect ramblings about… Almost sinking the Alfie. Seriously. Plunging our laundry… yes, with a plunger. Sailing over 30 hours straight. Sleep who? Eating a mysterious local lettuce that tasted like poison. Living life as two married couples on one boat. #sisterwives anyone? And general banter about life at sea from two newbies We promise to always keep you posted on what’s happening in our lives, the good, the bad, and the smelly (more on that in today’s episode). Listen NOW! For show notes and more details about today's episode click here.
Have you been feeling a little restless? Like you know what you should be doing but you aren’t doing it? Or maybe you’re on the cusp of something truly great/inspiring/transformative but you just can’t seem to take the right (or first) steps towards it? We’re the first ones to tell you that it’s often the lowest moments that lead to the highest peaks. But, this type of living is not conducive to long term happiness. We shouldn’t be striving for the highest of highs and the lowest of lows to help us navigate our circumstances or make hard decisions. Instead, we should look to where our truest power lies: right smack in the middle, the homeland of our inner balance. BALANCE. Such a catchy word! So bright and shiny! So easy to envy when others have it. So hard to imagine it when we don’t (like maybe right now). Lucky for us, we have the universe on our side! Welcome to the Spring Equinox, the Earths not-so-subtle way of telling us it’s time bring some freaking balance back into our crazy lives. During the Spring Equinox, the Earth’s tilt is in perfect balance. This means the sun crosses directly over the Earth’s equator and day and night are equal in length. This equality between light and dark makes it the ideal time to examine the balance (or lack thereof) within our own lives, to get ourselves in check, and to refocus on what matters. Are you interested yet? We certainly hope so, because today’s episode is everything you need to snap out of it, get your booty out of hibernation, and recommit to taking charge of your life. Right now, the Universe is actually supporting and encouraging your endeavors to re-evaluate your life. How cool is that? We musn’t disappoint the Universe… Listen now! For show notes and more details about the Spring Equinox, click here.

Inside each of our Queendom’s (aka our minds) we are the sole rulers and we decide which feelings will rule the show. It’s simple really… the more love & compassion we give to ourselves, the better we feel. The better we feel, the healthier we become. The healthier we become, the more control we have over our everyday lives. Enter today’s topic: food … see what we did there? What we eat and how we feel is so deeply intertwined that it has the power to completely change our lives. Different foods contain different nutrient energies, which is why your energy literally feels different when you eat a pint of ice cream versus a giant salad. The most amazing part of this? You, my queen, have the power to control that energy by deciding what goes on your plate, what goes into your body, and ultimately, how you feel about your life. Yes, it really is possible! If this interests you, then today’s episode is what you have been waiting for. We’re cutting right to the chase on: How to clean up your diet Tips & tricks that we’ve used over the years to stay healthy The importance of eating whole foods ...And why this concept is so damn important on the quest of living our truth and daring to change Every day, we have choices. Choose to take care of your body by supporting it nutritionally. When you do, it will have a cascade effect into the rest of your life. Not only may you look better, but you will feel better, and that is the most beautiful gift of them all. In a world where it feels like we can’t control anything, we’re here to remind you that you are always in charge of how you feel. Take back your health, your power, and your life by listening in now. Pppsst, you can follow along with our health journey here. And, for show notes and details about this episode, click here!
Okay ladies, the time has come, we're diving into our new worlds of sailing, living on the sea, and what boat life is really like. Many of you are probably wondering.... What is it like to live on a boat? What is it like to live in the Caribbean? What is it like living with one another? In this episode, we cover all of that and more. And we thought to ourselves, why not make this a monthly tradition. So, welcome to the Alfie Diaries, part 1, coming to you from the island of Antigua. In today's episode, we bear it all, we take off our teacher/healer hat, and we are just us, Allie and Carly, two girls attempting to do something different in the world and live our truth. Here's what you can expect: The saga of the getting our belongings from customs Learn where we grocery shop, aka the shacks we shop at What type of meals we eat on board Where we've sailed to thus far Our frustrations with WIFI and why we're constantly chasing it What our neighborhood is like and who are our neighbors on the water Where we plan to go to next..... And of course, a lot of laughs, and two best friends navigating a friendship at sea (with their husbands and business in tow). Social media. We love it, we hate it. We're addicted, we're disgusted. We crave it, we can't wait to never look it at again. What. is. the. deal? Yeah, we’re trying to figure it out, too… which is exactly what we’re doing in today’s episode. You see, we’ve moved onto a sailboat in the Caribbean with our husbands, and it’s had us seriously reevaluating our priorities. When we left the creature comforts of 24/7 5-speed LTE internet at home, we were forced to actually… live. And live is exactly what we’ve been doing. We’ve spent the last 6 weeks exploring what life is like when we detach from our phones. In this episode, we jam on how freaking hard it has been to separate from scrolling while ranting on how free we feel. We discuss our decisions NOT document every aspect of our lives, some beautiful habits we’ve formed since allowing ourselves some space from Instagram, and some tips and tricks on what you can do if you’re interested in implementing social media boundaries in your own life. There is so much beauty in technology, it allows us to connect with each other in ways other generations only dreamed of! The problem is when social media moves from a tool for connection, inspiration, and community to a comparison trap that leaves us feeling less than, unworthy, and not enough. In fact, we're so passionate about this topic that we created a social media detox worksheet to go along with today's episode. To get your free detox worksheet, click here. Here's to embracing a new "normal" with our phones, a normal that helps us maintain healthy boundaries, gather inspiration from likeminded people, and feel happy, healthy, and beautiful every time we open those darn apps.
Happy day to love yourself, or what’s properly known as Valentine’s Day! Sigh. Don’t you just love the societal pressure to have the perfect day of love, surrounded by rose petals, dining at the swankiest place, and sipping on champagne. Well, we hate it, and we call bullshit. We’ve been hypnotized a time or two by this day, but this year, we’re not playing game. And, we invite you to not play game too. In today’s podcast episode, we unpack how this proclaimed day of love can be shifted to love ourselves, our most important relationship, and what the term self-love even means. ….. which in all honesty, we’re still learning what it means, how to practice it, and definitely how to teach it. We also unpack the all too familiar world of being a woman and how we’re taught everything but self-love, leading to an endless war against who we are. It starts when we’re young, dressing to impress our fellow females, it then travels with us into marriage/relationships, attempting to be the best “wife”, and it then comes with us into motherhood, where we enter the mommy wars. And so and so on, the pressure to perform follows us through life, leaving no room for self-love to live here. But how do we fix what we’ve been taught? How do we change what we’ve been practicing for a lifetime? We start small by making one good decision a day. Trust us, this small shift will lead to big changes, but you must stick with it. And we find the easiest way to stay focused on your small changes is to connect with your sisters (likeminded women who get you). So, this is what we propose! Come meet us, connect with us, and practice self-love with us in Costa Rica! Yes, you read that right, we are heading to Costa Rica this summer and we’re inviting you to come along too. You can learn more about your invitation when you hit that play button or by clicking the link below. Read the retreat details + reserve your spot now!
Difficult conversations, where to start. Most of you know, we’re currently living in the Caribbean and moved onto a sailboat with each other and our husbands. And as you can imagine, there’s been an adjustment period! Let us paint a clear picture for you…. Four people confided to 52 feet, two couples adjusting to each other and one another, best friends learning how to be roommates, and business besties learning how to work side-by-side all.the.damn.time. Yes, it’s been difficult, awkward as hell, and challenging, but, there’s a big but. Instead of avoiding the difficult conversation or sweeping it under the rug (hoping it wouldn’t reveal itself later), we chose to be vulnerable, live our truth, and dare to change the situation. And not only did we solve our challenges with grace + ease, we also laid a strong as hell foundation for the future. A foundation that’s built upon honest communication, sharing our innermost fears with one another and about one another, releasing blocked energy (aka that feeling when you can’t breathe), and taking action to continue growing stronger – together. Now to be frank, it wasn’t easy to talk to one another versus about one another. It was uncomfortable, scary, and a bit heart wrenching…. but, we’re getting better at. One conversation at a time. And because this podcast is dedicated to empowering women, we truly believe this is a monumental lesson to share. Monumental because it breaks the women tearing other women down cycle, better known as gossip. It’s a lesson that challenges our ability to communicate, listen intently, meet people where they are, learn the art of quiet-time amidst pain, and create closure to move forward. If you’re ready to break the cycle with us, now is your chance. Hit that play button and come listen in. Click here to read the Difficult Conversations blog post!
Artwork, poetry, music, and writing… they are a commonality that many of us share. These creative realms have the power to transcend languages, multicultural barriers, and can connect people who otherwise may be separated. Given the current political climate in many parts of the world, using the power of art to leverage social and cultural change is more important than ever before. Enter today’s amazing episode guest: Kimothy Joy. Kimothy is a Denver-based artist who creates illustrations made with joy to spark social change. She partners with people and organizations on social-awareness campaigns to inspire thought and action. Specializing in watercolor and ink drawings, she often paints pictures of heroines of the past and present and seeks to offer a sincere and hopeful message of empowerment for women and girls. (You may have seen her images popping up all over social media during the Women’s March on Washington). Maintaining the belief in the power of art and creativity to drive social change, she primarily focuses on working with individuals and companies who strive to make the world a better, more equitable, place for all. … yeah, she’s pretty cool. In this conversation, the three of us dive deep on myriad of topics, some of them are: How to cultivate inspiration, especially when we’re feeling blah. Why it’s so important to depict heroines in art and the media, and the impact that has on women and girls around the world. What Kimothy’s creative process looks like. How to create inclusive environments both between women and through art, media, and self-expression. Why it’s imperative that we speak up on the issues that we’re passionate about. GIRL POWER on all levels! This conversation was so easy to have, we felt like Kimothy was our long lost friend. If you believe in the power of women to change the world, the ability of art (in all forms) to heal and inspire, and that when we stand up for what is right, true transformation is possible… then this episode is for you! In this episode, we’re sharing with you the important moments of our year, what we took away from those moments, and the goals that we hope will help propel us to our best selves in 2018. For Allie, 2017 was jam packed, some of her greatest moments included: celebrating one year of marriage, launching her first ever digital program with great success, quitting her cube job, and buying a sailboat and moving to the Caribbean to live, sail, and explore the world via the ocean! Carly also experienced some epic moments in 2017, they include: planning a wedding in 5 months, not eating meat for an entire year, learning to treat her body and soul with more compassion and kindness, and joining Allie (and the husbands) aboard the sailboat for the adventure of a lifetime. Reflection, intention, and goal setting are an important part of the process when it comes to living our truth and daring to change. But, we can only go so far on our own. In this episode, we also talk about how important the Truth and Dare Book Club is on our quest to live our best lives in the new year. We’ve taken everything that we need to keep evolving (think: incredible books, self-care practices, connecting with likeminded women, and challenging our present beliefs) and turned them into a year long program dedicated to helping us (and YOU) transform into the most badass versions of ourselves. Yes, the Book Club is that good. So, if you’re interested in taking a peek into our lives as we look back at the year and look forward to the new one ahead, AND if you’re down with the idea of a female only book club to help you make 2018 your best year yet…. then what are you waiting for? Confession time ladies. We’re both major foodies over here, like kinda, sorta obsessed with what we eat for every damn meal. It’s something we both share in common and also something that both our husbands could do without….. think indecision to the max, very particular about what restaurant we eat at, and always in need of a fresh, well-made meal. So naturally, it was about time we asked a food blogger to join us on the show! TAD Tribe, meet Kate, from Cookie and Kate. Kate is a well-known and well-loved food blogger that shares fresh, wholesome recipes via her blog and cookbook (yes, she has a damn cookbook). She is also the soul creator behind the all recipe development, cooking, photography, and writing on her site. But Kate wasn’t always a chef….. Her blogging journey started as a hobby with zero intentions to create or share food recipes, but what it did include was Cookie, her beloved dog. After growing tired of Cookie’s portraits, Kate shared a salsa recipe and the rest was history. She fell down the adventurous rabbit hole of food blogging and hasn’t stopped falling (or shall we say rising) since. In today’s conversation, we walk through Kate’s story and learn the behind the scenes of food blogging, like how she stays inspired to keep researching, testing, and sharing new recipes, her organizational hacks to help keep it all together, what it’s like to develop and create a cookbook, and her favorite way to practice self-care. If you love food, you’re going to love this conversation! But if you love food blogging or are considering starting a food blog, then this conversation was made for you! Come join us, learn with us, and yes, get hungry with us too! Click to read today's show notes Join the TAD Book Club Challenge Follow us on the gram
Welcome to a very special conversation about believing in your creativity and also reconnecting with girlfriends through a computer screen (yes, this is why we love the Internet). In today’s episode, we connect with our friend Jess, whose currently living in London, but who we met while living in Italy. We first caught wind of Jess through her travel blog about all things Florence (where we lived) and used many of her articles to guide our travel experience. We thought of her as the “Florence guru” and one day, stumbled right into her. Alas, a friendship was born! After departing Italy and going our separate ways, we all kept tabs on one another and watched as our individual journeys began to unfold. Jess moved to London and created a new travel blog. Allie became a yoga teacher and began to teach online. Carly moved to Maine and pursued a masters degree. And as the years passed by, our journeys became more similar, leading us to this conversation today, where we connect about all things online. We talk about fraudy feelings and what to do about them. We talk about shifting our mindset and identifying as a creative being. We talk about how blogging and being online has shaped us. We talk about getting on YouTube and what it’s like speaking into a camera. We talk about awkward photoshoots and what smile to use, the one with teeth, the pouty one, or the half smile. And most importantly, we talk about how to stay connected to your inspiration. This episode is jam packed with nuggets of wisdom, shared experiences, and a lot of laughs shared between three friends who each have the same intention….. to live our truth + dare to change! Come listen in ladies, you don’t want to miss it! p.s. – We also talk a lot about London, so don’t blame us if you get bit by the travel bug!
The holidays are here…. and someone pass us a cocktail, immediately (extra dirty with blue cheese stuffed olives). But really, this is a beautiful time of the year filled with an abundance of love, laughter, conversation, gratitude, and most importantly – food. And of course, one too many drinks and a side of family tension. So to help you (and us) survive the holidays, we threw together our 10 ways to survive the holidays…. the truth + dare way! Admittedly, you’ll probably recognize one or two of them and already know that these tips are should-dos, but it’s always nice to be reminded of the essentials, especially as the season continues to unfold. Also, we should forewarn you, this conversation was recorded days before Carly’s wedding and things get a little weird/all over the place/cray cray. But hang in there, we promise it’s a good time and worth a listen! Now come join us, laugh with us, and get ready for the holidays with us! And hey, have any other holiday survival tips, drop them in the comments below, share them on social media with us, or leave an iTunes review. Happy holidays friends, from our family to yours!
Ever feel out of alignment, like something isn’t right? We’ve definitely been here, hello slug in the honey, and today’s podcast guest has also been here too. Ladies, meet Renae, a former music industry songwriter turned independent singer, songwriter, and conscious pop artist leader. When we first stumbled upon Renae and looked at her work, we were both immediately captured by her debut album – Align. It’s a seven track album with each song symbolizing the metaphor of the chakras. And each song is recorded in the chakra’s musical key to enhance the listener experience, plus create a mind-body connection. And if you’re a regular around here, you know we love us some chakra talk, so this conversation was a no-brainer! So who is Renae, anyway? Renae is a young, pioneering artist who grew up surrounded by music, which led her to pursue a career in the music industry as a songwriter working alongside world renowned artists, like Megan Trainor and Leona Lewis. Sounds incredible, right? Wrong. While her career looked awesome on paper, it didn’t feel aligned inside. This imbalance led Renae on a soul-searching journey to find what her truth was, what fueled her soul, and how she could pursue work that brought happiness, joy, and love into her life. Fast forward to now, Renae has released her first debut album co-created with her husband, is in the process of creating and sharing supplementary material to enhance the message behind the album, and set to perform her new album live for local audiences. To say she has found her truth is an understatement, because she is actually living it. And if you’re like us, intrigued by the chakras and how people dare to change amidst feeling lost as ever, then hit that play button, come listen, and learn the many lows, in-betweens, and highs of Renae’s story.
Books. Best Friends. Big Magic. Becoming our Best Selves. Yes, everything above is possible and we are living proof of it. We came together as two best friends on a mission, wanting to share the message of how to live our truth and dare to change, as well as the many mistakes, frustrations, and moments of happiness that we experience along the way. And we also came together as two best friends who share a love for reading books, except there’s one BIG elephant in the room, we weren’t finishing our books. This pattern of buying books, talking about books, switching to another book, and never finishing the original book went on for quite some time (like a really long time). After years of half-assing our personal development through books, we finally cracked the code. If we commit to becoming our best selves together, there’s no room for excuses, distractions, and starting an entirely new book altogether. We discovered there’s something *magical* and motivating when you know that your fellow sister is reading right beside you. And now we want to share this same experience with you! Click here to join the book club challenge today! Fast forward to now, we’re both on average reading one book (sometimes two) per month and able to unpack, digest, and apply the book’s lesson to our everyday lives. It’s not the easiest work and it most certainly isn’t as glamorous as Sunday brunch with mimosas, but we never said this living our truth and daring to change thing would be easy or glamorous. We simply knew it would be worth it! In today’s episode, we unpack all of this and more. We share how our love for reading began (think books like Harry Potter), the transition from fiction to self-help/personal development and where that left us, how the idea for the book club came to be, why we chose the book Big Magic, and how this book has helped both of us become our best, most creative selves. And of course, we cover all the details about the Truth + Dare Book Club Challenge that begins on Monday, November 20th! So if you’re curious how this whole book club evolution began, now’s your chance to better understand our intention and most importantly, make the commitment to finish your books with us! Ready to get started, click here to join the book club challenge today!
Welcome to our longest podcast episode to date and one we could’ve continued for at least another hour…. yes, there was THAT MUCH to talk about. In today’s episode, we sit down with Ashley Smith, a student, healer, and facilitator who is devoting herself to the spiritual cultivation of women and awakening the divine feminine. Ashley does this through healing modalities like sacred tea ceremonies, moon circles, meditation classes, menstruation workshops, and yearly retreats. But how did she get started and why is she deeply devoted to this purpose? We take a major DEEP DIVE into Ashley’s story and learn about the synchronistic events that led her from a conventional path of pursuing a college degree to living in SE Asia for three years, to discovering sacred tea and learning alongside a world master, to returning to the states and developing her business as a sacred healer and continuing her purpose with pilgrimages to Glastonbury, England. As we learn about Ashley’s story, we also touch on topics like addiction and living a life of recovery, how the universe sends us packages of pain and the more extreme they are, the greater the gift is, how living our purpose leads to a narrower path and how it’s all to easy to live with one toe in and one toe out, and how our current climate is a call to arms for all women to rise up and awaken the divine feminine that lives within. So #TADTRIBE, if this feminist talk is speaking to you, then come listen in, learn about Ashley’s story, and begin to connect with the beautiful, powerful, and sacred woman that you already are! Remember, you can find all of the show notes, blog posts, resources, and how to sign up for journal prompts at www.truthanddaraemovement.com
Forgiving ourselves is tricky... We know we need to do it if there’s any hope in us living our truth and daring to change, but why is it so damn hard? Maybe it’s because our past behaviors make us wince, or maybe it’s because it’s so much easier to simply leave the past in the past, tucking it neatly in the dark corners of our minds never to be seen, heard, or spoken to again. Sounds simple enough… but we all know that never works. In order to begin the process of healing and loving ourselves fully, we have to come face to face with our past and learn how to forgive ourselves for the decisions we’ve made. In this episode, we’re unpacking why it’s so vital to accept our past and get to a state where we agree to ‘let it be’. We’re also addressing some of the younger behaviors that we would like to forgive (yes, we’re holding onto some serious stuff), and we’re talking about techniques that we’re using to help us move forward and heal – things that we believe can work for you, too. The point of this journey is not to beat ourselves up over and over again for the things we’ve done wrong. It’s about growing, learning, falling down, getting back up, and loving ourselves through it all. Forgiveness is the gateway to that love. Ready to start forgiving?
Welcome to a conversation that is jam packed with honesty, vulnerability, empowerment, and a strong reminder that there is always work to be done, lessons to be learned, and new ways of thinking to be embraced. In today’s episode, we sit down with Dana (aka @dothehotpants) and learn about her powerful journey to becoming an activist, writer, and event producer. We take it back to when she first got started as a fashion blogger and why this world wasn’t serving her, think all too familiar things like….. an eating disorder, a false sense of worthiness from social media, and an industry that continually told her (and all of us) to keep reaching for an unattainable body. This left Dana with two options, continue fueling the beauty industry that convinces us to buy more, diet more, and photoshop our images more, or share her truths and begin to dare to change. ….. pssstttt, she chose the latter! It was in this moment that Dana’s message went “viral”, empowering her to shift gears and focus on those who need a voice, while creating a safeish space (we love this term) for women to share their stories, release internal and external shame, and accept and love themselves as they are, with no strings or judgements attached. Essentially, this a conversation for women, had by women, to help women! But before you hit that play button, we want to share our personal thoughts on today’s conversation. Listen ladies, there are moments throughout this episode that left us uncomfortable, because our current beliefs/thoughts were challenged…. and while it’s hard to endure discomfort, we believe it’s not only a good thing, but a necessary thing if want to be leaders and teachers for others. So, be prepared to hear the discomfort in certain moments and know that we walked away more aware, more knowledgeable, and more motivated to continue walking this path of living our truth and daring to change. And the best part, we know you will walk away feeling the same way too! Now hit that play button and come listen in.
Welcome to the episode that has us girl crushing over here, an interview with Melyssa Griffin, who is an online educator, podcast host, and leading boss babe in the business space. This woman has played an important role in both of our businesses (TAD + JJ), teaching us the foundations of online marketing, how to create an authentic community, and how to believe in yourself so that financial and location freedom are possible. .....and her method works, because as you know, we're leaving to go sailing indefinitely! Pssstt, new to the TAD tribe, listen in about our sailing trip here. So what can you expect from today's conversation: Melyssa shares how she became inspired to start a blog, what it was like to gain massive momentum in a short amount of time, how she lost her way during the process, and the steps she had to take to reconnect and pursue her purpose. She also gives us incredible advice on how to stay connected to creativity, manage our time effectively, partner with organizations that are helping those in need, and most importantly, how to not place our self-worth into one situation or outcome. We learned a lot from this one woman and truly enjoyed chatting with her and we know you will too! Now click the play button, relax, and come listen in!
Get ready #TADTRIBE, today's episode is a no frills conversation talking about dolla dolla bills (aka money) and how to flip your perspective on making it, spending it, and investing with it. Here's what you can expect. We reminisce about how our relationship with money came to be, taking it back to when we hopped across the pond and called Italy our home. This was our first BIG lesson in how to take risks, invest in what fuels our happiness, and create a positive foundation for future endeavors ahead, like..... *becoming a yoga teacher *booking a Kripalu weekend workshop *attaining a master's degree *saving for our sailboat dream Butttt, hold up. What is the actual process of changing your mindset towards money and how do we continue to do it? We dive head first into what works for us, like viewing money as energy, knowing that there is an abundance of dolla dolla bills to be made, our willingness to serve tables time and time again, and remaining committed to whatever the end goal is. And as always, we end by sharing how you can get started and begin to embrace a positive money mindset. We can't give too much away, but there is a four step process that paves the way to investing in YOU (and not feeling bad about it). Here's how it unfolds: *Get to work *Get clear about what you want to invest in *Take action *Forgive yourself along the way And this is where it's time for you to hit that play button, come listen in, and start building a foundation to invest in YOU so that you can continue to live your truth and dare to change!
Today's conversation is about two things that women love and deeply connect with, but also two things that don't appear to go together - spirituality and style. We sit down with Jodi Belden, a personal style coach, whose carving out a unique space for herself in the fashion industry. We talk about how chasing a fashion career in NYC left her feeling empty, but still with a desire to share and spread the confidence that fashion can bring. This where the second piece comes into play... Spirituality. After participating in some of Gabby Bernstein's earliest meditation/coaching groups, Jodi quickly learned that competition, comparison, and burning out in the corporate world wasn't for her. She said see ya to NYC and Elle magazine, only to find herself as lost as ever and back where she began, at her parent's house (don't we know how that feels). After a six month spiritual bootcamp, Jodi gained clarity and carved out how to serve the fashion industry through what she calls, "spiritual styling". She breaks down her three step system that clients experience (cultivate, curate, and collect), why it works, and how all of her styling principles are a metaphor for life's many spiritual adversities. Of course, we offer our personal experiences and thoughts on the topic, too (obviously)! Ready to learn how these not so obvious worlds work together? Come join us, hit play, and listen in.
Welcome to the episode that's the epitome of our "slug in the honey" catch phrase, yes you guessed it, this entire episode is a rant fest. We couldn't help ourselves after weeks of feeling displaced, disconnected, and uprooted, it was time to share our truth and how we dare to move through it. It being the honey.... So why the rant and where's the usual motivation and inspiration? We're blaming it on that bitch Irma. We already know you know who she is, but just in case, let us explain. Irma was the one of the largest recorded hurricanes in the Atlantic ocean with over 185 mph wind speed, a massive storm surge, and a destructive size that far surpassed many of her past storm siblings, causing her every move to make headlines, take over the media, and cast fear into so many of our lives. Ours being one of them. Irma not only threatened our homes and friends homes in Florida, she also casually passed by the Caribbean island that holds our future home, that home being a sailboat. It was a surreal moment to watch a storm of this magnitude barrel towards our two year dream to set sail with no say in the matter. And as you can guess, the stress and anxiety that came with this threat + the chaos of what was unfolding in Florida threw us a for a loop. ...... a loop that has landed us into a thick ass pile of honey. So in today's episode, we break down the events that unfolded as Irma drew near and the aftermath of what she left behind. We share our stress, anxiety and fears. We share we're were at with taking care of our health (which is nowhere). We share our frustrations around living with our parents, while being married and thirty years old. Basically, we share it all in this rant style episode. We hope you understand and relate to both of our current situations, knowing that this is part of living our truth and daring to change, showing the behind the scenes, the not so pretty, and the real life events that takes place in our lives. And whether you were affected by a recent natural disaster or life's general turmoils, we think there's a nugget of truth in this episode for everyone so hit that play button and come listen in!
Welcome to another opportunity to get vulnerable AF alongside us and our podcast guest Alli Owen. In today's conversation, we learn about Alli's story involving an unexpected sexual trauma, leading to years of seeking external validation, like pursuing a masters degree in engineering, traveling to six different countries, and hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro, all to leave her still scarred. But it was through this fervent seeking that Alli was able to gain confidence, seek out a therapist, and begin to vulnerably own and share her story with others. And that's exactly what she does today with us! Together we unpack how Alli felt following the sexual trauma, why she wasn't able to share her story right then and there, how cultural conditioning can affect a situation like this, what steps she recommends if you find yourself in the same situation, and how she was able to rise up from the painful experience and find her personal power. You'll also hear our personal experiences with losing our virginity, how we communicate with our current partners to create a positive sexual relationship, and a few more personal tidbits that you don't want to miss! Hit the play button and come listen in!
As much as we love a good green smoothie, a long run, and a meditation, we also love a nice dirty martini, a cheese board, and late nights out with our girlfriends. After a busy summer, a few weeks of travel, plenty of dirty martinis, girlfriends, and cheese, and a body that needed rest (hello acne breakouts, lack of exercise, and not enough sleep), we've decided it is time for a little bit of cleansing. We took the month of August to get back into our health flow by participating in our own 30 day cleanse. In this episode we rant about our main concern for cleansing (aka to treat our chronic annoying AF hormonal acne). We also recap how we felt after the 30 days ended, if we succeeded, challenges we faced, what we ate (and didn't eat), how we REALLY feel about cleansing, and what in the world we're going to do next.
Breaking addictions and living clean….. isn’t this something we all strive towards, whether it’s less social media, kicking sugar cravings to the curb, adjusting our inner dialogue, or working to get unstuck, we all have a crux. But what happens when our crux becomes too much and we no longer have control. In today’s episode, this is what we explore alongside our longtime, incredible friend Gina. Gina shares her decade long story with addiction, the rock bottom moments when it became clear she had lost control, the lightbulb moments of clarity that led to recovery, the uncomfortable moments of seeking and receiving help from others, and how living clean for almost nine years has not only given her a second chance, but a healthy family, a successful career, and an unwavering devotion to living a life of recovery. If there’s one theme we took away from today’s episode it’s this. Give yourself a second chance and pursue it one hundred percent. If you’re ready to take that chance, listen to someone share their personal story on this courageous path, and laugh here and there, press play and come listen in!
Pursue your passion, it’s become a trendy tagline, but what does it truly mean? What does chasing a passion entail? How do people follow their dreams? And what are the challenges and frustrations that come along with it? Well tribe, you’re about to find out. In this week’s episode, we connect with Rissa Wray (studio owner, Thai massage therapist, and yoga teacher) to unpack her journey with pursuing passion. We follow her courageous choice to not follow a conventional path, but instead choose a path not yet paved. We dive into how Rissa fell into Thai massage, where her first clients came from, how her budding business began to bloom, the transition from renting a single space to owning a studio, and her current goals, dreams, and vulnerabilities. This conversation simply can’t be missed, because if you’re here to live your truth + dare to change, then passion is what can help light our way. Come join us and listen in!
How to get unstuck, isn't this the greatest mystery of them all, or at least to us it is! We both know the all too familiar sensation of rolling in our honey, seeing the peak but remaining in the valley, and not moving forward to pursue our purpose. Hell, we get stuck every damn day. ..... we mean it, every single day. So what if instead of fighting the stuckness, we flip the script and embrace this space. What if we choose to accept the valley, but then rise up quicker to our peak. What if we view of our moments of weakness as a space to cultivate strength, perseverance, and willpower as we navigate along the way. To this we say, let's stop the what-ifs and start the process of let's do. If you're into this, hit play, listen in, and begin your journey to getting unstuck too!
Partners, we seek them, we idolize them, we care for them, we love them, and we wouldn’t be the same without them. But what happens when you find your partner not growing alongside you? What happens when the disconnect becomes so strong that the idea of reconnecting seems gone? In today’s episode we unpack this common situation of one partner growing, evolving and changing, while the other parter stays stagnant. We touch on personal examples from our own long-term relationships, why it’s so important to own your personal happiness, how to seek out a spiritual running buddy, and knowing when it’s time to cut ties and simply walk away. If you’re ready to strengthen your partnership, find new ways to fine tune your experience, or gather up the guts to proclaim “It’s time to leave!”, then this is the conversation for you! Let’s dive in tribe!
Listen up ladies, it’s time to change lanes, drop unrealistic expectations, and say – Fuck Perfection. In today’s conversation, we share a vulnerable side of our worlds, current frustrations, chronic challenges, and how we’re pulling the bullshit card on letting any of it dim our truth. We’re choosing to flip our weaknesses and transform them into our strengths, seeing the positive in the so-called negative, and inspiring you to do it alongside us too!
Yearning to learn more about the moon cycles and how to utilize them to live your truth + dare to change? Well, you’re in the perfect place. In this week’s conversation, we interview Kassandra Reinhardt about how she began her journey to live by the moon, how she incorporates the moon cycles into her daily life, and her inspiring + impactful program for women only – the Lunar Yoga Community. We also touch on her backstory, how she created an online yoga platform, her transition from full-time government position to full-time business owner, the mentality that we can break the rules to create our destiny, and that we simply need to start today, with what we have. ….. and for her, it was a cellphone taped to a yoga block to record her first YouTube yoga video!
What the hell is a business bestie and where do you find one? In this week's episode, we dive into how the two of us created this collaboration (Truth + Dare podcast), what to look for in a partnership, dividing and conquering the work, playing off each other’s strengths, supporting one another through the process, remaining open to change, and showing up to do the work (together and apart)!
In this conversation we jam on how to get shit done + do the work (aka time management ). We dive into why managing our time is so important to live our truth, our personal struggles + stories with managing our time, how to use time as a catalyst that's on our side (not against us), dropping perfection in the process, and leave you with some EPIC tips on how to get started!
We all have big ideas, especially if we are doing the work to live our truth + dare to change. But how the hell do we accomplish big ideas, where do we start, and what does the process look in the in-between. In this week's conversation, we break it down about how to cultivate your big ass ideas and the secret about how to get there. The secret being, small actionable steps that stack upon one another to create a larger than life leap.
The power of the pussy. Whoa. That's quite the statement tribe, we know that, and that's why we're here to talk about it! As two women who are learning how to live our truth + dare to change in an ever-changing culture that swings from women ruling the world to women being objectified, we feel it's our duty to rise up. But stand up to who? Well, stand up to ourselves and with one another. In this week's conversation we go deep, and we go deep fast. We touch on our personal transformations of external pussy power to internal pussy power, the women we look up to, the current political climate, and how we can start to power up our pussies through our independence and the collective rising! This is an episode not to miss, hit that play button, and let's get started.
Finding your voice. What does this mean. Why is it important. And why do so many people reference it. In this week's conversation, we break down the process of finding your voice, what it means to recycle other's work (versus plagiarize), and finding the confidence to transition into your own voice. And of course, we share our personal journey's with finding it through teaching yoga, starting a weekly conversation, writing + publishing work, and spreading a message we wholeheartedly believe in.
TAD Tribe, welcome to our second guest interview and one that we were both enthralled by (like hanging on each other's every word). Ladies, please meet Alyssa Kuzins, a fellow girl boss who is living her truth + daring to change and inspiring many women along the way. In this week's conversation, the three of us jam on learning how to trust with a capital T, reframing the question of who am I to do xyz to who am I here to serve, how to cultivate tools to fill your toolbox, and building the confidence to pursue your dreams.
And the secret is out, well to be fair, it's been out. But in true live your truth + dare to change nature, we had to share a WHOLE conversation on it to help our tribe better understand what it's like to break the mold, take risks, manifest change, and create the reality you desire. In this week's conversation, we unpack the journey to setting sail. What started the idea. How we held onto the idea for years (yes, years). How we saved money. Our family + friends reactions. The pushback from society, but also the support. Our own personal fears. And our absolute excitement for the journey that lies ahead. And one important note, at the time of this recording, we were setting sail as of June of 2017. Our plans have changed and we are now leaving in November of 2017. But regardless of the six months in-between, we will still be doing the work to break the mold, take risks, manifest change and create our reality!
