Those wacky Soongs are at it again, proving that Data's the only good one of the lineage as Eugenics criminal Dr Arik Soong has some genetically engineered children who are out causing diplomatic incidents. That's right, we've got not one, not two but three Enterprise episodes as we watch all of the Augment trilogy in one go. Should they be ranked as one episode or three? How much does this want to be Wrath of Khan? Have they stopped with the whole ‘Space War on Terror' and does Earth look less like a poor Xbox game background? In Borderland, the mission's off to a bad start as Orion slavers abduct a lot of the crew. Then in Cold Station 12 we get one of those TOS-style space stations dedicated to science and a ton of deadly viruses. Finally in The Augments, the CW version of Wrath of Khan plays out as petulant augments try to incite a war between the Federation and Klingons!00:02:42 What Non-Star Trek things have we been enjoying?00:16:53 Enterprise: Borderland00:46:26 Enterprise: Cold Station 1201:02:05 Enterprise: The AugmentsTalking points include: The 100, Doug Ramsey, Friday the 13th, We salute our anteater overlord, Nature Trail to Hell, A Hyrule Historia of Halloween films, Apocalypse War, Nemesis: The Warlock, The Goonies, Borderlands (video game), Keep on the Borderlands (adventure), Little Keep on the Borderlands (parody adventure), The WB & The CW dramas, Charlie's worrying WB & CW knowledge, WWF on the SNES, Big Show, wrestling is basically weird amdram, World Wide Wrestling, Brainiac Cosplay, seagulls (including special guest star: a seagull, Nicholas Nickleby, Andromeda Strain, The career of Richard Rhiele, Charlie has been banned from starting a cult, X-Files flashlights, calling out Alec Newman for not shaving his eyebrows, some very 2004 music, Ewan McGregor, Wrath of Khan (of course), Chris Claremont (of course), Wing Commander III: Wrath of the Tiger, UK TV censorship, Back to the Future and then we mock a royal's hair loss, despite Charlie's lack of hair. Extra Edition: What can a bloody, violent, horribly funny comic book cop tell us about policing in the real world? 2000AD comic's Judge Dredd began in 1977 as a brutal satire on law and order for delinquent kids – and then Dredd's world of militarised police started to come true. Is Dredd a warning of the future or a manual for how to oppress a society? Lifelong Dredd fan Andrew Harrison talks to Michael Molcher, author of I Am The Law: How Judge Dredd Predicted Our Future, about Hayek, Voltaire, the Apocalypse War, policing by consent, Crime Blitzes, Stuart Hall, and Judge Death as a model for policing. (Yes, this episode's not for everyone. But what's the point of having a podcast company if you can't talk about what you love, eh?) Image by Mike McMahon. “Dredd's a Rorschach test. You can tell a lot about someone if they're saying ‘yes, we need Dredd on our streets'.” “Dredd arrived at the time of Dirty Harry and The Sweeney, a time of copaganda… He's an incredible predictive warning of the law and order endgame.” “The Judges are the culmination of a police state… The administer everything from welfare to warfare.” “The steamroller of law and order is reaching its destination… The last of those pesky rights are being eroded.” Written and presented by Andrew Harrison. Producer Jet Gerbertson. Assistant producer Kasia Tomasiewicz. Lead producer Jacob Jarvis. Bunker music by Kenny Dickinson. Audio production by Alex Rees. Group Editor Andrew Harrison. “Hic! Pero, además, Ricardo canta (para variar) y Esther revive una traumática experiencia futbolística mientras Fran intenta apaciguar a la fiera que le acompañaba durante la grabación y evitar todos los spoilers de un capítulo que todavía no había visto. ¿Y Javi y Jaime? Bueno, pues ya sabéis, LaVida™, pero no desesperéis en que en algún momento de la temporada vayan a aparecer. Everyone at 2000 AD is still reeling from the news that Carlos Ezquerra has passed away. In this episode of the 2000 AD podcast, we talk to some of the people who knew and worked with him, and just a few of the other 2000 AD creators who were influenced by his incredible work over half a century - Garth Ennis, Matt Smith, Dave Gibbons, Kelvin Gosnell, Jock, Rob Williams, David Baillie, PJ Holden, Simon Fraser and Al Ewing. One of the all-time greatest comic book artists, the Spanish illustrator was one of the titans of 2000 AD. Originally from Zaragoza, Carlos began his career in Barcelona, drawing westerns and war stories for Spanish publishers. Breaking into the UK market on romance titles like Valentine and Mirabelle, he was head-hunted for the new IPC title Battle Picture Weekly where he drew Rat Pack, Major Eazy and El Mestizo. In 1976, he was asked to create a new character, the future lawman Judge Dredd, for a new weekly science fiction comic called 2000 AD. Thanks to his enduring partnership with John Wagner, Dredd was to become one of the world’s most recognisable comic book characters, with Carlos there to apply his inimitable style to some of the biggest stories in the strip’s history, such as The Apocalypse War, Necropolis and Origins. Thanks to Dredd as well as his co-creation of Strontium Dog, created for Starlord in 1978, his adaptation for 2000 AD of Harry Harrison’s Stainless Steel Rat, and thousands upon thousands of comic book pages, Carlos was lauded by readers and creators alike. Modest and unassuming, Carlos was nonetheless a legend whose contribution to the global comic book industry cannot be understated. His distinctive style - characterised by breathtakingly dynamic, high-energy storytelling and the distinctive ridged thick inking that outlined so many key moments - was instantly recognisable. Despite a brush with lung cancer in 2010, he continued to work and, although the cancer returned this year it was believed he was recovering well. His sudden death is a profound loss not just to 2000 AD but to the comic book medium. The 2000 AD Thrill-Cast is the award-winning podcast that takes you behind-the-scenes at the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic! As well as interviewing top creators and famous fans, we bring you announcements, competitions, and much more!
