Aloha Oni Alien! We finally finished the first two season of Urusei Yatsura. Following the bizarre love story of Ataru and Lum is a real treat with other crazy characters and hilarious plots
Qui-Gon Jinn was one of the finest swordsman in the Jedi Order, he had frequent sparring practice and experience with the most talented duelists such as: his mentor, Count Dooku, Mace Windu, the creator of Vaapad which harnessed darkisde and lightside energies, Master Yoda, and Jedi Weapon Master Anoon Bondara. Jinn was a master of the fourth form of lightsaber combat, Ataru. The same form Yoda used and focused highly on aggressive acrobat maneuvers. In combat, his bladework was wide and powerful, marked by heavy, two-handed strikes, followed by a quick parry to cover his vulnerable spots. Despite the form's weakness to blaster fire, Jinn's mastery of Ataru was so good that he could easily defeat blaster-wielding opponents. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Hello darlings! Welcome back to #LumSquad, a podcast hosted by @LumRanmaYasha and @ProdTally devoted to the wonderful and wacky world of Rumiko Takahashi's Urusei Yatsura! We're approaching the 2/3rds mark of the series' volume count as we head into the first half of the 11th omnibus! Not only that, we're entering one of the strongest periods for the series to date, and this volume in particular is filled with classic chapters that offered so much to talk about that we went on for two hours on just the first half alone! We had good reason to, however, as we discuss iconic stories like the “Blue-White Flames of Anger” arc and pivotal character-building chapters centered on Ataru and Lum's relationship like “The Glove of Love and Conflict” and the deceptively emotional “Lum Becomes a Cow!” We also discuss the various hilarious chapters in-between, from the absurdly extravagant festive farce of Mendo's Christmas Party to transformation antics gone unthinkably wrong! We also spend a lot of time discussing recurring themes and notable details that pervade the series in these chapters, like Kosuke and Torajima becoming more prominent, the Ryunosuke/Shinobu ship, the differences between Lum and Oyuki as alien royalty, the shift in Lum's relationships with both her friend group and Shinobu, and a whole lot more! It's a podcast stuffed full of surprises and while we haven't hidden a bomb inside, we still think you'll have a blast! Welcome back to #LumSquad, a podcast hosted by @LumRanmaYasha and @ProdTally devoted to the wonderful and wacky world of Rumiko Takahashi's Urusei Yatsura! Urusei Yatsura's getting a new anime!!! The Urusei Yatsura All-Stars reboot was announced on New Year's Eve to bring in the year of the tiger with electrifying excitement! All us Urusei Yatsura fans went out of our minds with this out of the world announcement, and we couldn't wait to talk about it on the show. Which is why right at the stroke of midnight (central US time), we recorded a special podcast covering everything we know about the upcoming anime and what to expect from it! That's right, we recorded our first new podcast of the year literally right when the year began! I wish I could've released this episode as timely as we released it, but hey, at least it isn't out of date yet! Even if it's a little late, this episode is still special because it's our very first episode to have special guests! That's right, we're joined by VLord, host of many podcasts including the Shogakukan-focused podcast Saturday Night Shoggy, and Sakaki, co-host of Saturday Night Shoggy and webmaster of the Weekly Shogakukan Edition blog and Twitter, whose tweet about the news went viral hours before it was officially confirmed! We discuss our reactions to the leaks before the official confirmation came in, our thoughts on the new studio and actors, wonder if Nagotoro is the modern-day Lum, worry whether Ataru's perviness would offend modern viewers, what stories we expect to be adapted, and whether we think the new show will broaden UY's worldwide popularity! So join us as we put weird and weird together yet again and embrace a new anime that'll make things even weirder! Hello darlings! Welcome back to #LumSquad, a podcast hosted by @LumRanmaYasha and @ProdTally devoted to the wonderful and wacky world of Rumiko Takahashi's Urusei Yatsura! It's time for I, I, You, and I to review the Urusei Yatsura: Only You! We're so excited to finally have the films streaming on Crunchyroll and coming to blu-ray courtesy of Discotek, and so we'll be periodically interrupting our coverage of the manga to review each movie! What better occasion to start than on our 10th episode AND just ahead of the upcoming blu-ray release of Only You coming later this month! We're starting off with the series's first movie, Only You, a much-beloved crowd-pleaser that director Mamoru Oshii was loath to make! While clearly a love-letter to the series, do we agree with Oshii that it's more of an extended episode than a “real film?” We discuss the fascinatingly fraught production history of Only You, analyze Elle as a parallel to both Lum and Ataru, describe the multitude of references and callbacks to the series, and evaluate the film's iconic music and far less esteemed english dub! They say a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet, but where does this first feature fall among the other films in the franchise? Only you will find out by listening to our show! Today we discuss who was the “best of the best” for the Jedi. Who on the Jedi High Council was “the best” lightsaber duelist and why? Was it Yoda and his Form 4 - Ataru? Master Windu and his Form 7- Vaapod? Or maybe it was Obi-Wan Kenobi and his surgical execution of Form 3 - Soresu? Let's compare each of these legendary Jedi fighters and determine: Who was “The Best” lightsaber duelist on the Jedi High Council. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

On this episode we have Diana, Ed, Karen, Kate, Dennis, and the return of Sam to discuss the first Urusei Yatsura movie Only You, released in 1983. Based on Rumiko Takahashi's first serialized manga, and the feature length directorial debut for Mamoru Oshii, we see glimpses of story, design, and direction in their more globally known works that we're more familiar with. We can't help but bring up some Ranma comparisons, why Ataru is surrounded by all the ladies, weird alien customs, one of anime's earliest himbos, Wedding Crashers, and puns for days. CW: We also discuss briefly about the scandal with the writer for Shonen Jump's Act-Age manga in our news section. Urusei Yatsura: Only You is out of print on DVD and not available on Blu-ray yet, but Discotek does have plans to re-release it soon. Special thanks to Alec of Anime Los Angeles for lending us his DVD copy of the Animeigo release. And as stated in news and the sign off, here is the WCS Kickstarter page. Suport this wonderful cosplay event if you have the means: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wcs/1043810599/?ref=kicktraq Dennis: @ichnob | Diana: @binkxy | Ed: @ippennokuinashi | Karen: @RyaCosplay | Kate: @TaikoChan | Sam: @EssFive Website | Email | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | RSS And because we talked about it, support the show by purchasing some of these citranella candles on Amazon, and avoid bug bites while you're being socially distant outside in your yard/driveway/outdoor area: https://amzn.to/31MtqYf
