This week, I'm getting real about something that's been on my mind for a while: how our early messaging and expectations shape the way we see others—especially in church. Teaching institute and revisiting Elder Neil Anderson's "The Divine Gift of Forgiveness" has me reflecting on the complexities of repentance, and why change isn't always instant or easy.I open up about a moment from my own experience on the High Council, when an unexpected reaction to someone's choice of Sunday attire challenged me to confront old judgments. It's honest, a little uncomfortable, but ultimately a reminder that what matters most is not the clothes we wear, but the direction we're heading on our spiritual journey. If you've ever felt stuck in old habits or discouraged by slow progress, you're not alone. This transmission reframes the common fear-based narrative around lost souls, entities, and the “dark side.”Instead of seeing them as dangerous forces targeting us, you explain that:1. Most “entities” are not evil — they are lost• Many were once human beings who experienced trauma, death, or abandonment.• They are often confused, suffering, and seeking help—not trying to harm.• Like a distressed child or person in pain, they need guidance, not fear or rejection.⸻2. Fear-based teachings create fragmentation• Many spiritual narratives promote:• Fear of being attacked• Over-protection• Belief in being targeted for having light• This creates disempowerment and instability, especially when opening psychic abilities.⸻3. True power comes from love + sovereignty• Your power comes from:• Heart-centered presence• Compassion• Neutral awareness• Clear boundaries• You don't need fear-based protection — you need clean, intentional boundaries, like closing your door for privacy.⸻4. Your state determines your reality• If you approach entities with fear → you amplify fear.• If you approach from sovereignty → nothing has power over you.• The key is how you initiate your energy.⸻5. John and Jim conclude Colin Baker's tumultuous era with a two-part finale born from tragedy, scrambled rewrites, and production chaos - resulting in wildly divergent reactions from the hosts and fandom's most controversial regeneration-that-never-was. The Production Nightmare: John details Robert Holmes passing while writing Part 1, Eric Saward writing Part 2 from Holmes' notes but refusing to release it when JNT rejected his cliffhanger ending (the Doctor and Valeyard falling into an abyss), Pip and Jane Baker getting 10 days to write an entirely new Part 2 using only existing sets from Part 1, and the longest Classic Who episode clocking in at 30 minutes when the Bakers' 38-minute script had to be pared down. The Valeyard Revelation: Extensive discussion of the bombshell that the Valeyard is "an amalgamation of the Doctor's darker impulses from between his twelfth and final incarnations." For the first time in… I don't even know how many years… I completely stepped away from my phone for nearly five full days. No scrolling, no checking messages, no quick little peeks into the online world. Just nature, music, conversations, laughter, long nights, long days, and the raw beauty of being present on the sacred land of the South Island.And something very interesting happens when we truly unplug from the constant stream of information and stimulation.We begin to see ourselves again.When we are always moving in the same rhythm, repeating the same patterns, surrounded by the same perspectives, it becomes surprisingly difficult to shift identity. We keep recreating the same internal landscape because we are never far enough away from it to see it clearly.But when we pause… when we step out of the noise… when we allow ourselves to enter a different environment, a different rhythm, a different social field… something beautiful happens.Perspective arrives.And perspective is one of the greatest allies of leadership!This weekend gave me a huge dose of perspective.I spent a lot of time surrounded by friends, and interestingly enough, many of them were men, some I have known for years, some new connections, and being in conversation with them opened something in me that I had not anticipated.Men often approach life, evolution, spirituality, leadership… from very different angles than women. Different language. Different instincts. Different frameworks.And there were moments where I could feel my human reacting at first. In today's episode, Edward Nachel shares his firsthand account of serving on the High Council that excommunicated Wade Christofferson –and the guilt, questions, and reckoning that followed. Edward served in the same ward as Wade and knew him for over twenty-years.We begin with the recent arrest of Wade Christofferson and the allegations that have surfaced, including sexually coded letters and reported searches found on his phone. These are allegations until proven guilty in a court of law. But Edward's story focuses on something broader: how church disciplinary systems operate, how secrecy functions, and what happens when there are no advocates for victims inside the room.Edward describes being selected for the Disciplinary Council, drawing lots to see who represented the abuser and who represented the church, being sworn to secrecy, the absence of witnesses and the victims, how the final decision was made by the Stake Presidency, and how ward members were never warned.At the time, Edward believed he was “on the church's side.” Years later, he sees the system differently.This episode is not about attacking faith. And yet, as we read today, Ananias and Sapphira got that message so very wrong. The High Council and the religious leaders, too, missed the central truth. And that's pretty much true to form for most religion—the simple message of God can often be missed, misused, or manipulated. Ananias and Sapphira thought this message was about getting—position, influence, prominence. They wanted to manipulate, to use the message for gain, not for giving. The heart of what God offers was missed in their striving, their attempt to appear generous when it was really driven by self-interest. Then we see the religious leaders; they saw the message as a threat to their control and their standing. They tried to stop it, seeing it not as good news of life but as something that threatened their systems. And isn't this true for us as well? Inside and outside the church we often take the message of life and shape it into something else—a tool for manipulation, or a means to gain acceptance or justify ourselves, or a way to maintain power or status. But the message is so simple, and we see it again today, spoken with clarity by the angel to Peter and John: "Go to the temple and give the people this message of… life." That's it. Life. You've been included into the very life of God. Let go of all the false messages, let go of the need to control, to pretend, to justify. Just say yes to this simple truth, and experience life—here and now. Jesus himself tells us, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly" (John 10:10). In him was life, and that life was the light of all people (John 4). It's not about power, or prestige, or gaining influence. It's about participating in the abundant, eternal life that God gives freely. Among all the twisted manipulations of the human heart comes God's invitation: Step into life. Don't miss it; receive it, enter and awaken to the life offered to you. Walk with him. Participate with him. You can start right now, simply by turning your heart toward God in gratitude—"Thank you for life, Lord Jesus. I walk with you today." That is the prayer for my soul, for my family—my wife, my daughters, my son—and that's the prayer I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity.
