A whirlwind of a couple weeks, to say the least! The Nintendo Switch 2 is finally out, the 2025 Tony Awards were a slay, brand new video games have been announced at Summer Game Fest, and all in all things feel...bad! Listener, it always feels weird to talk about video games and culture when things feel so dire and bad in the world. We recorded this episode amidst the ICE-protests in Los Angeles, and as the fight against the authoritarianism and fascism of this administration continues, it feels very bread-and-circus-y to talk about trivial things like video games during these times. But rest and joy are important, and we hope we can provide a little bit of levity in your day while still encouraging you to protest, donate, fight, pressure your elected officials into doing something, et al. Hang in there and keep up the good fight! In this episode, Laurence shares his first impressions of the Switch 2 and Mario Kart World, the two of us discuss the banger 2025 Tony Awards, and we share some of our favorite announcements from Geoff Keighley's E3 successor, Summer Game Fest, and its related events. We attempt to do two hours of gaming talk in one hour, so buckle up! The ROG Xbox Ally is the handheld Xbox, announced at Summer Game Fest. Geoff Keighley misled at the Summer Game Fest Kickoff Showcase by claiming that dev teams were smaller than they actually were - erasing the many outsourced parts of the game development process. Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is coming from Digital Eclipse, but is not Gold Master Series #4. The Nintendo Switch 2 is both plentiful and hard to find, depending on who you ask. We then talk about the transfer process, gameshare, clip sharing, the official carrying case, and what I played first. Then we talk to Rob about the Nintendo Switch 2.
Time Codes:Intro & Begrüßung: 00:00:00Trailer Massaker 2025: 00:07:13Unser Nintendo Switch 2 Eindruck: 02:07:06Zockerfahrung unserer Kinder: 02:28:41Clair Obscur: Expedition 33: 02:37:28Doom: The Dark Ages: 03:01:06Lost Records: Bloom & Rage: 03:07:31Eure Kommentare: 03:13:26Tschö mit Ö: 03:22:05
On this week's episode, Nathan, Chris, and Riley reflect on the latest installment of Geoff Keighley's mid-year video game advertisement carnival, Summer Game Fest. It was a weird one! High-profile announcements were few and far between, leaving relative no-names shaped kinda like the industry's heaviest hitters to fill in the gaps. But at least Stranger Than Heaven, which is basically noir Yakuza in the 1940s, looks cool. Then Nathan talks about what it was like to actually attend SGF's in-person Play Days event, which took place roughly a mile from the locus of LA's anti-ICE protests. Game developers and press struggled with mixed feelings over the unavoidable tension between the perceived frivolity of advertising video games within the event's walls and the enormity of the protests raging outside. After that, we move on to perhaps the week's most telling story: what happened to Dragon Age: The Veilguard. A new Bloomberg report details trend-chasing, reactive mismanagement nearly every step of the way. At what point do we determine that these execs are simply not fit to lead? Lastly, we figure out where we fall on the Aftermath community's incredible Many Emotions Of Geoff Keighley chart.Credits- Hosts: Nathan Grayson, Chris Person, & Riley MacLeod- Podcast Production & Ads: Multitude- Subscribe to Aftermath!About The ShowAftermath Hours is the flagship podcast of Aftermath, a worker-owned, subscription-based website covering video games, the internet, and everything that comes after from journalists who previously worked at Kotaku, Vice, and The Washington Post. Each week, games journalism veterans Luke Plunkett, Nathan Grayson, Chris Person, Riley MacLeod, and Gita Jackson – though not always all at once, because that's too many people for a podcast – break down video game news, Remember Some Games, and learn about Chris' frankly incredible number of special interests. Sometimes we even bring on guests from both inside and outside the video game industry! I don't know what else to tell you; it's a great time. Hundreds of games were shown off this past weekend at Summer Game Fest. So we brought Geoff Keighley over to introduce our own event, Crubber Games Fest, where we talk about all of his showcases. Over All in the GameAll in the Game is de podcast over games voor iedereen. Elke week hoor je minimaal één aflevering van All in the Game. Het komt allemaal aan bod in All in the Game. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Was gab`s zu sehen?

Episode 380 – “Gandalf, Game Fest, and Getting to the End”Fred finally put a bow on Octopath Traveler II, clocking in at a hefty 76 hours. He's now stuck in that post-game limbo, unsure what to dive into next—and somewhere along the way, he saw Gandalf, which we'll unpack. Jake, meanwhile, is still going strong in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, now 31 hours deep and not letting up.Listener feedback this week was short but sweet. Big Box gave us props for our thumbnail game, and 1blktalon chimed in with a time-stamped shoutout for Jake's "Amen" moment from Episode 378, also weighing in on Jade Raymond. Appreciate the love—and the laughs. As for the news, Summer Game Fest 2025 is right around the corner. Geoff Keighley will host on June 6th, and PlayStation is officially on board as a partner. Expect big reveals, including WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers, and a post-show indie showcase from Day of the Devs. Meanwhile, IO Interactive is gearing up to unveil 007 First Light during their own showcase the same day, teasing Bond's origin story with the tagline "Earn the number."CD Projekt Red is offering a first look at the tech behind The Witcher 4 at the State of Unreal on June 3rd, showing off what Unreal Engine 5 will bring to the franchise. Tango Gameworks is back in action too—thanks to KRAFTON—and already hiring for a new action project following their reboot.Kojima's Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will get the spotlight during a June 8th live event hosted by Keighley, with a gameplay demo and surprise guests promised. In less celebratory news, Borderlands 4 found itself in hot water after Randy Pitchford suggested that “real fans” would pay $80 for the game. After backlash, he walked the statement back with a public apology. Also this week, we learned that The Order 1886 was originally meant to be a trilogy—plans for The Order 1891 and 1899 were scrapped after poor reviews and the eventual closure of Ready at Dawn. A small nod lives on in Astro Bot, where Sir Galahad appears as a collectible. And finally, MindsEye continues to stir controversy. Developer Mark Gerhard blames targeted attacks and bots for the game's rocky reception. Whether that's true or not, the game launches June 10th, so we'll see for ourselves soon enough.Let's get into it.Your support goes a long way in helping us continue to create the content you love.

This week on The Free Cheese, feelings never die, probably. We revisit the history of E3, looking at its different eras as we experienced them. In our journey through time, we uncover some artifacts from The Free Cheese hosting E3 2014 and reflect on the highlights of the show through the years. In its death, we discuss the road the led it there and what we think of Summer Game Fest taking its place.

In this episode, we record from Austin, TX because we're here for SXSW 2025! We talk about all the fun experiences from the brand activations, to the great panels to the fun parties. The biggest reveal being Death Stranding 2 revealing the release date alongside a world tour concert. We also got to see a great talk from Geoff Keighley and much more.We also review Monster Hunter Wilds. This is an early review or first impressions of the follow up to Monster Hunter World. We're having a great time once we get past the poor menu design and challenging multiplayer accessibility. WB Games has announced they're closing Monolith Productions, who was working on the Wonder Woman game, as well as the studio behind Multiversus and WB San Diego working on a yet to be announced AAA, free-to-play game. This is unfortunate news so we talk about what was lost with this closure and what we hope for the future with these studios and some of these properties as well as the adored Nemesis System.Lastly, we have a special guest on the podcast! We welcome Chandler Cooper to the show. Chandler is a musician who was born in Cleburne, TX and just released his single "Looking for Sarah". Geoff Keighley's 'The Game Awards' festivities didn't disappoint this year. Quite the contrary, it was arguably the single strongest showing of new game announcements the industry has seen in seemingly forever, and it was capped-off with what many of us have long awaited: Naughty Dog's new game. For the first time since 2005's Jak X: Combat Racing on PlayStation 2, Sony's crown jewel studio is readying a product that's aligned neither with Uncharted nor The Last of Us. It's called Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, it's about a spacefaring bounty hunter and a mysterious alien planet, and it's coming to PlayStation 5 at an undetermined point in the future. Naturally, we have much to discuss. Other TGA announcements of note include a surprise update for Helldivers 2, Capcom reveals in the form of new games in the Onimusha and Okami series, a brand new multiplayer Elden Ring spin-off called Nightreign, our first look at Borderlands 4 and The Witcher IV, the long-awaited revival of the Turok IP, the first new 2D Ninja Gaiden in more than three decades, and much more. And there's a regular ol' episode of Sacred Symbols underneath all of that, too, focused on the purported leak of Bend Studio's new game, the death of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, a serious lawsuit filed against Bungie by a fired executive, final word on long-defunct vaporware PS4 project Wild, and more. We wrap things up with listener inquiries on topics like rumors of an upcoming Steam console, parasocial relationships in the creator space, the ability of dialogue to ruin a perfectly good user experience, and a conundrum surrounding perpetual hiccups and $100 million. It is done. Geoff Keighley descended from Gamer Mountain with the results of 2024's Game Awards scrawled onto two stone tablets. (Brought to you by Mountain Dew.) Kat, Eric, and Nadia understandably have opinions about the games that were snubbed, and the games that received recognition. How about you? Do you agree with Geoff's decrees? Are you with us? After a disastrous showing in 2023, Geoff Keighley and his team put together arguably their best show for the 10th anniversary of The Game Awards! While not perfect, major issues with pacing, presenters, and speech time seemed to be ironed out. It also doesn't hurt that the show was chockful of insane announcements. Of course, we get into The Black Rock who is delivering not just one, but two massive RPGs in a single year thanks to The Outer Worlds 2, but also a staggering list of other games. An Okami sequel is real as is Naughty Dog's new sci-fi IP. Onimusha is back as is a new IP for Yakuza developer, RGG. They're not just working on Project Century at RGG, but also reviving Virtua Fighter. The industry was recently set alight by a pair of articles from newswire Reuters indicating that Sony is interested in buying Japanese media conglomerate Kadokawa Corporation, and indeed, Kadokawa itself has since confirmed the reporting. Such a move has massive implications for Sony's increasing dominance in the anime and manga spaces, and it's likely this attempt at M&A is squarely focused on that first and foremost. But acquiring Kadokawa could be a huge boon for the PlayStation brand, too, considering it owns the likes of Spike Chunsoft and Acquire, and perhaps most importantly a controlling share in FromSoftware, too, the prolific studio behind Elden Ring, Bloodborne, Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Armored Core, Sekiro, King's Field, and more. Should Sony nab Kadokawa, does that mean FromSoft would join PlayStation Studios as a proper first party team? Could further emphasizing Sony's Japanese identity provide a valuable path forward for PlayStation? Other news this week includes fresh PlayStation 6-related rumors, word out of Square Enix concerning Final Fantasy VII Remake: Part III and a potential 2D-HD version of Final Fantasy VI, PlayStation Portal's awesome upgrade to allow cloud gaming without PS5, and more. Per usual, we wrap things up with inquiries from our beloved audience. What are our thoughts on this year's iteration of Geoff Keighley's Game Awards? Which difficulty settings are most appealing to us in the titles we play? How does Colin deal with any negative feedback surrounding the games he writes? In one listener's quest to invite another to be his Best Man, could it be that their shared romance is the real story?
