Tim Chizmar is a nudist versus a naturist, and explains the difference between the two, and then clarifies how “artists” fit into the picture. He talks about the unlikely television series that inspired him to become a nudist, how he started participating in nude events like bike rides and marathons, and why there is nothing sexual about it. He discusses the unspoken rules of the nudist scene, the major faux paus to avoid, nudist etiquette, and the one taboo word in the community. Tim shares stories from his nude stand up comedy tour, the infamous Bay To Breakers run in San Francisco, the many naked bike rides that take place all over the States, and his nude comedy film, The Nudels of Nudeland (streaming on Troma). He talks about the positive impact that nudists have on body acceptance and positivity, and what's attracting the younger generation to the scene. Plus, he details the celebrities who support the nudist scene. Bay to Breakers in San Francisco is much more than just an annual race. The event has become notorious for its party-like atmosphere, with thousands of people running the 7.5 mile route in wild costumes, or wearing absolutely nothing at all. With its 110+ year history in the city, how did Bay to Breakers go from an ordinary race to a kind of festival-on-foot? Reporter Azul Dahlstrom-Eckman chases down the answer and explores the event's highs and lows on this week's episode. #226 - The Bay to Breakers is a San Francisco staple. It's been part of the city's history for over 100 years. It has changed with the times, starting as a way to lift San Francisco's spirits after the 1906 Earthquake, it now takes its place as a nearly regular road race. But that hasn't always been the case. This week, I talk about the race's history, it's start, what's changed and why you might consider running it! Also, stick around because I talk about this year's Sierra Nevada snowpack and how it may affect your mountain races! This week on the RIPEcast we feature Nugz from the Dusty Rhino crew. Here is a bit more about Nugz..... Bay Area native Nugz got his start in the 90's with residencies at Vinyl in Denver, and Soma in Boulder, CO which at the time was rated one of the top ten clubs in the U.S. by BPM magazine. Since moving back to San Francisco in 2004, he has made his mark creating late night soirees with his production company Footprint Sound, at a special little warehouse in Soma known as "123". Heavily entrenched in that underground sound, his parties are regarded by true nightlife professionals as some of the best in the city. Nugz's musical selections under cover of darkness, revolve around House/Techno and UK Nu Skool breaks that range from deep, melodic, sexy, to dark, dirty, nasty, funky, grindy, techy, electro. Daylight hours, you may find him spinning trip hop, down tempo, mid tempo and classic hip hop, along with sexy deep house and funk all over the bay area at places like bars, lounges, back yards, yachts, pools, rooftops, basements, lofts/warehouses, Bay To Breakers, campouts, sidewalks, Decompression or Golden Gate Park. He is currently the sound engineer and resident DJ for the Dusty Rhino mutant vehicle, where he's also a founding member. --------------- Don't forget to pickup your pre-sale tickets for the Space Cowboys 18th Annual Breakfast of Champions event on New Years Day in San Francisco!!!! Gabe Armstrong stepped out of the sound booth (he is the audio engineer at the Elbo Room) to share his own Muni story, which happened during Bay to Breakers. Riding public transit can really change your perspective of what you should and shouldn’t be afraid of in life, Gabe says. And how did he learn this? By hauling the remainder of his B2B vehicle on Muni while under the influence of jello shots, of course.
Jim and Drew take a look at the first Science Fiction author ever, Syrian writer Lucian in the 2nd Century and his completely made-up nonsense True History and how it still influences writing and parodies today.
