Betty Lou Beets has been referred to as Texas' Black Widow. She had a reputation of chewing up men and spitting them out. Many believe that due to the abuse she endured during her childhood, as well as at the hands of some of her husbands, Betty Lou didn't deserve the punishment that she got. This dirtbag was addicted to love, but was she also a cold-blooded killer? Just how many times exactly can a woman walk down the aisle and exchange “I do's”? 1 is perfect, 2 is understandable, 3 raises some eyebrows and by the time she gets to 5 – you may be looking at a serious problem. Starting in 1950and spanning the next 41 years, Ohio native Betty Neumar got married five times, and gave birth to 3 children from 3 of her spouses. There wasn't anything extraordinarily strange about Betty's situation, except that each and every husband had died under questionable circumstance.
In small towns, secrets don't stay secret for long. Is there a bigger secret than murder? This week we visit Jennings, LA for the case of the Jeff Davis 8, and Gun Barrel City, TX and the crimes of Betty Lou Beets. Happy Thanksgiving Oddballs!

Married five times, this woman often referred to the abuse she suffered from the hands of her former husband. She was convicted in 1985 of murdering the fifth and final of these husbands named Jimmy Don Beets. She was also suspected of killing her ex-husband Doyle Wayne Barker and the remains of both men would be discovered on her property. But that leaves the question, were her actions committed in self defense or were they of a colder, more nefarious nature? This is the Black Widow Betty Lou Beets.
Join us this week as we head to the Lone Star State. Meredith shares with us the story of Betty Lou Beets. Some believe Betty was a black widow that killed her husbands for financial gain, while others believe that a lifetime of mental, physical, and sexual abuse led Betty to believe that murder was her only way out. It's hard to know for sure, but we would love to hear your opinion on the case. For astrology, we talk about Pisces. We are still missing our resident Pisces for a few more weeks, but Sarah will be back soon. There are also some upcoming astrological aspects that will give us a mixed bag of emotions, including love and insecurity.

Betty Lou Beets, 46, had an ornamental wishing well in her yard near Gun Barrel City, Tex. She used it as a place to plant some begonias, a few petunias — and one husband. Days before she killed him, Betty had begged her fifth spouse, retired Dallas Fire Department Capt. Jimmy Beets, also 46, to build the well to beautify the property that held her trailer home. Beets cheerfully went about the task, unaware he was digging his own grave.

February 24th: Betty Lou Beets Executed (2000) Not all marriages are destined to end with happily ever after. Some reach a stopping point and divorce becomes the next logical step. At least, that's how it is for most couples seeking to end their marriages. On February 24th 2000 a woman was executed for ending her marriage with a bullet rather than a court date. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betty_Lou_Beets, https://www.crimemuseum.org/crime-library/famous-murders/betty-lou-beets/, https://www.thoughtco.com/the-crimes-of-betty-lou-beets-971313, https://murderpedia.org/female.B/b/beets-betty-lou.htm, https://medium.com/the-true-crime-edition/the-texas-black-widow-53766c0cf88a, https://www.thecinemaholic.com/betty-lou-beets-husbands/, https://www.thecinemaholic.com/how-did-betty-lou-beets-die/

Betty Lou had a rather rough upbringing and suffered mental and physical abuse throughout her entire life, but does that give her justification to kill? Even though she may have suffered from mental illness, is that reason enough to shoot her second husband, try to run over her third, and ultimately kill her fourth and fifth? Was Betty just an abuse victim that finally had enough or was she a cold blooded black widow that spun a web full of lies and deceit.
