Curtis Samuel May Be The Bills Biggest Mystery

It's another edition of The Podbag on today's Talking Buffalo as Patrick Moran is answering questions, comments and takes from listeners on a variety of subjects, including an explanation on why Buffalo Bills wide receiver may be the biggest mystery when it comes to this 2025 roster.Samuel was a big(ish) ticket free agent signee last year that didn't work out. He caught just 31 passes for 253 yards during the regular season, though two of his six catches in the playoffs did go for touchdowns. Brandon Beane signed Elijah Moore recently and he's looked impressive in workouts since joining the team. In Patrick's eyes that's setting up to be arguably the biggest battle of training camp, as there's only room for one of them to be in the receiving group's top four if everyone stays healthy. Samuel has the ability to make an impact on the team this year that he didn't in 2024 but at the same token, could also become someone Beane looks to trade or at the very least, nothing more than insurance as long as the unit stays healthy. Also, Patrick's asked what veterans may have the hardest time earning and/or keeping their jobs at training camp and Patrick puts that spotlight on a handful of defensive backs after Buffalo used three draft picks on the secondary. There's also a few comments regarding the Sabres and with this now officially being offseason, the annual time of hope. That plus Patrick defends Florida sports fans---sort of,  is asked for a specific type of restaurant recommendation, explains a few things from his home studio and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Reinhart's Cup Performance Reignites Sabres Fans Anger

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by sports broadcaster and podcaster Steve Bermel for a discussion on a few topics, including Sam Reinhart's dominating Stanley Cup clinching performance for Florida that reignited some anger in a Buffalo Sabres fan base that already had plenty of it to spare. It doesn't take much to rile up or at least significantly annoy Sabres fans these days, understandably so for obvious reasons. In what became the final act of the 2024-25 NHL season it was the former Sabre Reinhart who took over on the sport's biggest stage, scoring four goals as Florida beat Edmonton to hoist the Cup for a second straight year. Of course, Reinhart being the shining star naturally opens up old wounds for fans of the Sabres and leads to a discussion on how unbelievable it is that so many former Buffalo players went on to taste their huge success after leaving the organization.Meanwhile, Patrick isn't mad about Sam as much as he feels bad for Connor McDavid, the sport's biggest star who keeps coming up short in his quest to win a championship. Also, going by the ratings it seems like most people in Florida don't care about the Panthers winning the Cup and that makes it suck even more for Sabres fans who still have passion for hockey. That plus Bills camp now has a start date and schedule.Follow Steve on Twitter @SteveBurmel.The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Biggest Buffalo Bills Post Minicamp Developments

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to discuss Buffalo Bills and NFL topics, including taking a look at nine of the biggest Bills post minicamp developments. The Bills held mandatory minicamp last week and it was their last group workouts before training camp begins at St. John's Fisher in Rochester in late July. There's several things stemming from minicamp worth talking about, including the at least somewhat surprising not only reporting but full participation of running back James Cook. With him clearly hunting down a huge contract and the Bills seemingly unlikely to give it to him there was widespread belief that Cook would either not report at all or report and not participate. That theory was escalated recently when NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that Cook may not be in Buffalo for quite a while. However, that didn't turn out to be the case, Cook also met with the media and the guys have plenty of thoughts on this development. Also, new wide receiver Elijah Moore feels like the real deal early on per reports from several media members. He's set up for an opportunity to have a solid role in this offense and that's discussed, as is Dalton Kincaid reportedly finishing minicamp on a high note, Keon Coleman being very blunt about his rookie season and Joe Andreessen perhaps turning into more than just a Cinderella story in year two. They also spend a little time talking about the AFC, including discussing if Pittsburgh or Cincinnati is more likely to make the playoffs this season and if Denver or Los Angeles have the better chance to finally knock off Kansas City in the AFC west. That plus promising news with Joey Bosa and plenty more. You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattRichWarren and be sure to check out Buffalo Rumblingsfor your (really good) daily Bills content.♦♦♦♦♦The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Chad DeDominicis Talks Sabres Mock OffSeason & Situation With JJ Peterka

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Chad DeDominicis from Expected Buffalo to discuss their Buffalo Sabres mock offseason that just dropped in addition to what the situation is with reportedly disgruntled forward JJ Peterka and other Sabres topics. There's been reports that Peterka, a restricted free agent is unhappy with the direction of the Sabres and is hoping to play somewhere else sooner than later. Where are these leaks coming from? How much leverage does Peterka, who scored 27 goals last year and has 55 over the past two seasons actually have? Will another team sign him to an offer sheet? Will the Sabres match any offer that's presented? What would it take for Peterka to commit to Buffalo long term? Chad has thoughts on all these based on what he's heard and what his gut tells him. From there they go over the Sabres mock offseason Chad put out alongside his Expected Buffalo partner Anthony. What RFA's are they qualifying? Are they signing any to long-term deals? Do they pull off a big trade, perhaps for Jason Robertson or Keandre Miller? Is Alex Tuch getting an extension? What free agents are being targeted? Chad tries to project what will happen in advance of the real thing starting within the next few weeks. That plus Kevyn Adams knowing this is his last chance to turn things around and plenty more with Chad, who you can follow on Twitter @CMDeDominicis and be sure to check out Expected Buffalo.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. Exploring The Mostly Lousy Bills, Panthers Pipeline

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss several topics, including an examination of the (mostly lousy) Carolina Panthers to Buffalo Bills pipeline since Sean McDermott came to Buffalo in 2017.The Bills have obviously been very good during the McDermott/Brandon Beane tenure through this point, making the playoffs all but one year (2018) and have won the AFC east the past five seasons. There's a lot of reasons for their success, but upon examination the constant Panthers to Bills pipeline isn't really among them. The Bills have had 19 players come over from Carolina that played for the Panthers while McDermott was still there. The guys go through and it becomes apparent quickly that the vast majority of those players stunk as Bills. Among them discusses is Star Lotulelei, Vernon Butler, Kelvin Benjamin, AJ Klein and Mike Tolbert. There's also five other players who spent at least two seasons with Carolina after McDermott was gone and ended up with the Bills after and they really weren't much better. Also, James Cook reported to and participated fully in minicamp last week, which was a pleasant shock to many people including Joe, who just last week predicted Cook wouldn't play for Buffalo until Week eight. They discuss the hot topic that's been at or near the top of Bills storylines all season that seemingly got put to bed. Also, who's the third best quarterback in Bills history after Jim Kelly and Josh Allen? That plus Joe's Mt. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it's another edition of The Podbag, filled with submissions from listeners that Patrick Moran is responding to, including discussing the Buffalo Bills depth that is significantly better than most give it credit for, favorite Highmark Stadium memory, the Sabres need for a goaltender and other fun topics. The Bills essentially did nothing at linebacker this entire season until signing veteran Shaq Thompson this past week. Not adding was a decision Patrick didn't like for the majority of the offseason but a submission in the Podbag causes reflection and upon it, realizes there's a reason for it, which leads to thinking about how much quality depth this team has almost entirely across the board. Also, a fan talks about Josh Allen's performance against New England in the playoffs and the Frank Reich comeback game as the best all-time memories of the Stadium, which of course is heading into its final year of play. Patrick acknowledges though but disagrees and picks something different as his favorite memory.Other Bills topics include discussing a veteran player who could find himself in trouble this summer and a fam wondering how much James Cook likes being in Buffalo. There's also a few Sabres submissions as well, including a fan admitting the Sabres effect his mental health (yikes).  That plus coffee, Busch Light Apple, power ranking the days of the week and more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. Rushmore for the year. He's joined by Tommy Seifert from the Buffalo Wing Coalition for his insight and opinions as well. This is the fourth consecutive year on the podcast Patrick's done a wings ranking and tiers show. A spreadsheet and power rankings nerd, Patrick's been writing reviews and placing wing spots into tiers for years. As always some of the picks are controversial and heavily disagreed on, which of course is primarily because it's a completely subjective process where's it's purely opinion and no right or wrong answer. Patrick highlights several of his most underrated and overrated picks, which is documented through seven tiers: Waiver Wire, Roster Bubble, Depth Chart, Solid Starters, All Pro, Elite and ultimately the Mt. Rushmore.Tommy has a lot of thoughts as well and discusses where he thinks Patrick got it right and wrong. The Buffalo Wing Coalition has been an amazing resource for people who love wings in the area and it continues to grow. Rather than focusing on that today the guys are going back a ful year to review how the 2024 offseason went. They reflect on and discuss some of the Bills biggest moves, including the re-signings of David Edwards, AJ Epenesa and Taylor Rapp, contract extensions for Dion Dawkins, Taron Johnson and Spencer Brown, signing Curtis Samuel and the draft selections of Keon Coleman, Cole Bishop and Ray Davis. As for Cook, how his contract and Cook's participation with the Bills plays out this season remains mysterious as the Bills begin mandatory minicamp this week but it's certainly a step in the right direction that he reported for minicamp. Matt and Patrick wonder who may blink first if push comes to shove this summer at training camp and potentially into the regular season. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by blogger, podcaster and recurring guest Chris Ostrander (Two in the Box) for a discussion on several Buffalo Sabres topics, including reaction to Matthew Fairburn's Sabres piece in The Athletic last week, a rebuttal of sorts from a former team employee and Chris' post covering the hiring of Jarmo Kekäläinen as a senior adviser.Fairburn's piece that essentially concluded the Sabres organization has been like a hamster wheel caught the attention of many fans over the last week and Matthew talked about the article in depth as a guest on this show last Thursday. Today Chris offers his takes on Matthew's story, which not only brought to light Kevyn Adams' rise to power but more/less painted a gloomy picture of the organization, one that's easily deserved after 14 years of missing out on the playoffs. Also, a former Sabres social media manager (Craig Kanalley) wrote a piece on his Substack page that respectfully took issue with some of the topics from Fairburn's piece. The guys react to what they liked and didn't about Craig's post.Of course the real story with the Sabres is what they're going to do to improve this roster, perhaps dramatically and end their playoff drought. It's pretty safe to assume desperation mode needs to be activated for the organization and Chris has some thoughts on what that may entail. Plus, Chris discusses his post on the hire of Kekalainen as senior advisor, perhaps a little Buffalo Bills talk and more.Be sure to follow Chris on X at @2ITB_Buffalo and check out the Two in the Box blog in addition to the Instigator Podcast.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss several topics, including in light of what happened this past week in the NBA with the New York Knicks and Tom Thibodeau, what it would take for Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula to put Sean McDermott on the hot season or even fire him.Under Thibs, the Knicks won at least 50 games in back to back seasons for the first time since the early 90's, made the playoffs four of the past five years with at least a first round win in the last three years, and made the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 25 years. Despite all that the Knicks upper management decided Thibs had taken New York as far as they were going to go under him and fired him. That got Patrick wondering what it would take for Pegula to ultimately sour on McDermott given some of the parallels between the two teams. McDermott has led the Bills to consistently good regular seasons, division titles and even playoff wins but has hit a wall every year in the playoffs, with that wall usually being Kansas City. The guys discuss some of the similarities and differences between Thibs and McDermott and try to paint a picture of what it would take, realistically for Pegula to decide that maybe it's time to move on and find a coach that'll get them over the hump. Of course, that coach may ultimately be McDermott and that's discussed too. Also, the James Cook situation isn't getting better per most recent reports and the guys have thoughts on that. In another Bills topic the question is posed if you'd sign up for 775 yards receiving from Keon Coleman this season right now. That plus Joe's Mt. What's Most Held The Buffalo Bills Back?

On this rare weekend Saturday episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by sports broadcaster and recurring guest Steve Bermel to discuss a handful of Buffalo sports topics, including taking a long and perhaps painful look at what's kept the Buffalo Bills from reaching or winning a Super Bowl during the McBeane era.Following a 17-year drought Buffalo Bills fans obviously have a ton to be happy about. Buffalo has won the AFC East five consecutive seasons and have also won at least one postseason game each year during that run. They've also appeared in two AFC championship games and of course, have the reigning NFL MVP in quarterback Josh Allen. Life's been mostly good. However, this is also a team that has been Super Bowl favorites almost every year during that time and going by the ultimate standard and measure of success, have fallen short. The guys dive into four reasons, the biggest in Patrick's eyes for Buffalo failing to get over the hump and reach the Super Bowl for the first time since the early 1990's.  That includes a defense that's been perfectly fine during the regular season but utterly imploded in every playoff elimination loss under head coach Sean McDermott. Speaking of, situational coaching has killed them on more than one occasion during this run, as has the lack of an edge rusher or cornerback making a truly meaningful play and last but not least, the most untimely drops from receivers. All are discussed. Also, Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic wrote an excellent story on the Buffalo Sabres this week and appeared on this podcast a few days ago to provide insight on it. The guys talk about that. They also talk about Steve being in the booth a few weeks ago and getting to call the Buffalo Bandits winning their third consecutive NLL championship in front of their rabid fans at the Key Bank Center.  That and more.Follow Steve on Twitter @SteveBurmel.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. Predicting The Bills 2025 Receiving Yards Leaders

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it's another edition of The Podbag, filled with submissions from listeners that Patrick Moran is responding to, including predicting who the Bills 2025 leaders will be in receiving yards from one through 10.There's no Stefon Diggs, Eric Moulds or Andre Reed in the Bills pass catching room, so trying to forecast who'll lead the team in receiving yards let alone charting it from one to 10 is no easy task. That doesn't stop Patrick from taking a stab at it anyway. It doesn't take long for him to figure out that barring injury, Khalil Shakir feels like the only sure thing with Dalton Kincaid, Keon Coleman, Joshua Palmer, Curtis Samuel and Elijah Moore all being legitimate wild cards. Also, a listener has a hot take that Brandon Beane should've signed James Cook to an extension before Shakir, which leads to Patrick elaborating on why he disagrees but still concludes fans are writing off Cook because they think it's a formality that his time with Buffalo is nearing a conclusion.Kincaid going into what feels like a make or break year is also discussed, as is Mack Hollins not returning, Bills super fans and Joe From Queens. That and plenty more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matthew Fairburn from The Athletic to discuss his extremely informative and intriguing story that dropped earlier this week involving Terry Pegula, Kevyn Adams and the continuously dysfunctional Buffalo Sabres organization.Fairburn did a deep dive into the Sabres organization, one that has certainly caught the attention of many people including frustrated Sabres fans. For the story Fairburn sat down with the Sabres general manager in addition to speaking to no less than 10 different people involved with or having knowledge of the organization's inner workings. Before discussing the story specifically Patrick asks Matt some questions about the process of putting the piece together, including how long it took to do from start to finish, if he gets a sense for how much attention people like Adams and Pegula pay to media stuff out there, and if it's even worth the bother attempting to ask Pegula to speak on the record for stories anymore. It doesn't take long for the story to take shape, as barely four paragraphs in a gloomy----yet completely accurate portrayal is painted of the franchise. The guys talk about some of the key talking points from Fairburn's work, including Pegula not feeling his vision was being seen before promoting Adams, the (sad) truth about the team's spending habits in relations to the salary cap, many skeptical that Adams got the job to begin with considering he had no real experience at any hockey operational level especially scouting and what the present/future may hold. It's truly some excellent work from Matt and this was an informative chat with one of this market's best writers. You can follow Matt on Twitter at @MatthewFairburn and of course check out his coverage of the Sabres at The Athletic,Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. The guys talk about some of the more surprising things we've seen in depth, including the James Cook contract situation becoming a very public hot topic, not having any real interest in retaining popular receiver Mack Hollins, Brandon Beane signing four significant veterans to long term extensions before free agency even began, the Bills being named as the subject for HBO's Hard Knocks this summer and Beane taking a big swing on a one-year deal for defensive edge rusher Joey Bosa, who's already got a calf injury while training. Also, the Bosa injury and other factors could make this a very important season for veteran edge rusher AJ Epenesa. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it's another edition of The Podbag, chockfull with submissions from listeners that Patrick Moran is responding to, including a submission from a listener who says Buffalo Bills edge rusher Joey Bosa should be treated like a lottery ticket with zero expectations. The Bills drafted three defensive lineman with their first four picks and coupled with what they already, they shouldn't have any real expectations for Bosa this season, at least according to the submission. Patrick takes great exception to that, saying the money spent on Bosa automatically makes him someone that should be counted on to have a very good season, and not just the playoffs. Winning your division comes first and foremost and then home field advantage matters too, both things that come as a result of the regular season, which is why Patrick also takes exception to those who say guys like Bosa only need to matter for January. Also, another listener is worried about the defensive line on a whole in part because it appears the Bills are banking on significant contributions from three rookies. Another explains what it will take for the Bills defense to be great this season and adds that Patrick and many others are sleeping on second year safety Cole Bishop. There's more Bills topics and also a few Sabres things as well, including a comical plan on how the Sabres can even get worse next season. That's evidenced by Buffalo being the only team in the league to be favored in every game this season as things stand. That doesn't mean the team is without flaws and concerns. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is highlighting two amazing things to happen for Buffalo sports over the Memorial holiday weekend both from team and individual perspectives--the Buffalo Bandits winning their third straight NLL championship and Tage Thompson playing hero for the United States in the World's Championship.Excitement was in the air last Saturday in Buffalo and especially at the Key Bank Center and the Bandits certainly didn't disappoint. They turned a close game into a second half route and extended party in defeating Saskatchewan, 15-6 to win a historic third consecutive NLL title and seventh in the history of the franchise. Patrick goes over several personal feelings on the accomplishment, how happy he is for the true Bandits fans, how it's sad they're not covered with the consistency they deserve and a Buffalo Bills comparison to what Saturday's championship win felt like.Meanwhile, Thompson scored in overtime on Sunday to give the United States a dramatic 1-0 win over Switzerland in the gold medal game at the World's Championships in Sweden and give the United States their first gold medal in 92 years. Patrick talks about Tage getting all the love from the hockey world he richly deserves, which of course leads to a bashing of the Sabres and that we don't get see Tage shine in games that actually are meaningful more often. Also, a pair of clips are played from last week's show and discussed. One of them is how the humanization of Sean McDermott in recent years has Patrick emotionally invested in wanting to see McDermott win a Super Bowl, and also a clip of Keon Coleman/Dalton Kincaid being discussed as the biggest keys to a historically good Bills offense remaining sustainable in 2025. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it's another edition of The Podbag, chockfull with submissions from listeners that Patrick Moran is responding to, including painting a picture of what would be the ultimate Buffalo Bills most optimistic "what if" scenario for 2025.There's 32 teams in the NFL banking on or at least hoping for the most optimistic what if scenarios for their teams to achieve the most success, but few around the league have a roster as deeply talented as the Bills, led of course by the reigning NFL MVP at quarterback. A listener of the show submitted a bunch of factors that if they fall Buffalo's way, this would be the year they finally get over the hump and bring a Super Bowl to Buffalo. Among those discussed besides the obvious health factors is Dalton Kincaid and Keon Coleman taking a big step on offense, Joey Bosa finding the player he was early in his career with the Chargers, Max Hairston being the real deal and Cole Bishop having a significant step forward in his sophomore campaign.Patrick keeps the party going to on the what-if scenarios---citing Joe Brady learning from what Patrick perceives as a meltdown in the AFC title game in addition to Josh Palmer giving Buffalo more at wide receiver than Amari Cooper did.Other submissions also discussed include examining if AJ Epenesa is just another guy on the Bills roster, the Bills bye week coming at an opportune time for the defense, chastising recurring guest Matt Warren for picking Miami to beat Buffalo in Florida this season and Miami "poser" head coach Mike McDaniel. Also, a regular listener takes a stand against the Sabres hatred and defends his favorite team. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Buffalo Bandits color commentary and sports media personality Steve Burmel for a conversation on several Buffalo sports topics, including reaction to HBO having the Buffalo Bills on Hard Knocks this summer and some potential fun storylines. In what was certainly unexpected news, HBO dropped a bit of a bombshell on Bills Mafia Wednesday with the announcement that the Bills would be the featured team on the popular and longstanding Hard Knocks series that begins this August. It's the first time in the history of the show the Bills have been the featured team, going all the way back to its inception with the Baltimore Ravens back in 2001. The guys have plenty of reaction to the news and discuss what they like and don't like, if anything about it.Of course, for good television their needs to be interesting storylines and arcs, and the guys spend some times going over the possibilities. Among them of course is Josh Allen, coming off his first MVP season and will be newly married to actress Hailee Steinfeld. Other potential things to keep your eyes on would be the charismatic Tre White coming back to Buffalo and trying to earn a job with the team, Buffalo born and raised Joe Andreessen attempting to stick his hometown team for a second straight year, Ray Davis overcoming several life obstacles to carve a role with the team in the NFL, Keon Coleman serving up some funny/goofy one liners and if Matt Milano will actually speak at any point of the season. Also, Steve covers the Bandits and gives listeners insight to the winner-take-all championship game in Buffalo coming up this Saturday afternoon. That plus some Sabres talk and plenty more!Follow Steve on Twitter @SteveBurmel.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. For the exercise Marino enlists a panel of Bills content creators to vote and chime in as part of the show, a panel that includes Patrick.  The guys go over the list from Locked on Bills and Patrick reveals what his personal countdown consisted of---was his list in line with the majority of the panel? From there, Matt does his own countdown with some insightful explanations along the way. One thing becomes clear with the more people you talk too ----- Josh Allen reigns supreme but it always gets far more subjective after him. Also, Matt explains him picking the Bills to win 14 games this season on Buffalo Rumblings. That plus the Bills are favored in every game this season, an awesome Nike ad for golfer Scottie Scheffler and tons more. You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattRichWarren and be sure to check out Buffalo Rumblingsfor your (really good) daily Bills content.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Duane Steinel from the 2 Goalies 1 Mic podcast to discuss several topics involving the Buffalo Sabres, including if a big splash move that's surely needed is imminent this offseason. This is Duane's first appearance on the podcast and Patrick spends a few minutes getting know Duane and his podcast, part of the Built in Buffalo network. Duane first gained popularity in the Sabres fans hockey community after a memorable rant while calling into WGR 550 back in 2020 over his frustration with the organization both on and off the ice. They get into some current Sabres talk and like nearly everyone else, annoyance with the team mounts as Buffalo just missed the playoffs for a 14th consecutive season, tied with the New York Jets for the longest drought in all four of the major sports. It's clear they need to do something special this summer to get fans to start believing again, and a popular name being brought up is pending Toronto star Mitch Marner who's a noted Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen fan. Patrick asks Duane point blank if there's any chance of Marner wanting to come to Buffalo and what kind of contract it would take for it to even be a consideration. Assuming Marner's off the table (spoiler alert--he almost certainly is) Duane goes over some other potential splash moves Buffalo could make before taking the ice next season. In fact, is a move imminent? They also spend some time talking about a number of good Sabres players who are restricted free agents. Also, Alex Tuch is eligible for an extension on July 1st and what's up with the Sabres goaltending situation. That and plenty more. You can follow Duane on Twitter @DuaneS39 and check out the 2 goalies 1 mic podcast on the Built in Buffalo network.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss several topics, including going through a few potential darkhorse trade candidates for the Buffalo Bills. You can't expect Bills general manager Brandon Beane to trade a veteran(s) from his roster before the season starts but it wouldn't exactly be shocking if he made a move either. The guys come up with a few candidates Beane could move on from, including Joe making a case for it to be wide receiver Curtis Samuel while Patrick thinks the most likely candidate would be defensive end AJ Epenesa. Also, with the NFL schedule now fully set with dates and times, Joe goes through the Bills road slate and ranks the road trips he'd like to take to see the team play from least to most desirable.  Cost, ease of travel, opponent, city itself and time of year are all factors.Former Bills safety Jordan Poyer recently said on a TV interview that returning to Buffalo and retiring as a Bill would be a "fantasy ending" to his career. Do the guys think it's a realistic possibility? They also respond to Poyer throwing a decent amount of shade at the 2024 Dolphins. The Knicks beating Boston in the NBA playoffs and New York City going crazy is also discussed. That plus a Mt. High Expectations For Bills Safety Cole Bishop?

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it's another edition of The Podbag as Patrick Moran is responding to comments, takes and questions submitted by listeners covering several topics, including an incredibly high ceiling projection for Buffalo Bills safety Cole Bishop going into his second season. It's no secret Brandon Beane and the Buffalo staff were extremely thrilled to land Bishop in the second round of the draft last year. Unfortunately for everyone Bishop's rookie season didn't go as hoped. He got injured in training camp during the summer to take him out of a three-way competition to start at safety and seemed to play catchup for a lot of the season after returning, especially in his first start in Houston in Week five where he looked lost out there multiple times. Injuries to Damar Hamlin and Taylor Rapp led to Bishop starting late in the season and again in the playoffs and while he struggled some (like everyone else in the secondary) he did show flashes of being a very good player. That leads someone in this week's Podbag to provide a hot (understatement) take that Bishop will be a Pro Bowl or even All Pro safety this year in his sophomore campaign. Patrick discusses that while obviously tempering those kind of expectations. Also there's a handful of questions and comments about the NFL schedule that was officially released on Wednesday. How does Patrick feel about it and what did he like and dislike the most now that the slate has been revealed? Also discussed are special teams being overrated, a fair evaluation of Beane, passing on Gabe Davis, some fans of this podcast and someone who's clearly not a fan of Nine Eleven Tavern wings. That and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red'sat 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. Once again the Bills are playing night games early and often, four times over the first six weeks to be exact and five overall, three of them at all. Patrick has thoughts on the early onslaught of prime time games for a second straight year as well as not playing any international or holiday games, a surprise to many. The guys outline and discuss some stretches of the season that are most interesting, including four of the first five games being at home but going on a stretch of four road games over five weeks close to the end of the season. As far as the home stadium tailgaters who like to get it at it early, the Bills only have two with a maximum of three Sunday 1pm home games, including just one before November 16th. Conversely they play three of their expected toughest home games at 4:25 in the second half of the season against Kansas City, Cincinnati and Philadelphia.Thoughts are also shared on schedule quirks from the around league including both Kansas City and Dallas playing on both holidays. That plus the Chiefs make NFL history and tons more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to discuss several Buffalo Bills and NFL topics, including a look at eight pretty significant talking points about the Buffalo Bills from last season that Patrick feels have mostly flown under the radar.Josh Allen finally won his first MVP and firmly established himself as one of the faces of the league. The Bills again fell short in their quest for a Super Bowl appearance after losing to Kansas City in the playoffs, again. Brandon Beane spent heavily on the defense and clearly let everyone know he feels about the wide receiver position. These and some others are predominant talking points that've remained as such over the past few months. But there's some things from season, both good and bad that are still tugging at Patrick a little bit that he wants to discuss with Matt. Among them is an incredible offensive line that played a huge role in Allen getting sacked just 14 times in 17 games. There's also the absolute Buffalo dominance of the AFC east, evidenced by their 24-6 record against the division over their last 30 games. Also, Dorian Williams took a major step in his second year at linebacker, to the point Patrick feels solid about him if he has to start again.Conversely, Patrick thinks offensive coordinator Joe Brady has been let off the hook a little bit despite his play calling meltdown in the AFC title game. Also, Brandon Beane's offseason defensive line additions crop was generally pretty lousy.Plus, some NFL schedule news as of this recording, media news surrounding two icons of the football broadcasting industry, audio vs video for podcasting and much more. It's another edition of The Podbag on today's episode of Talking Buffalo, as Patrick Moran is responding to questions, comments and takes from listeners on several topics, including being asked what's his single favorite Buffalo Bills transaction move of the offseason.Regardless of how you feel about the Bills offseason, it's indisputable that it's been a very busy one for general manager Brandon Beane and his staff. They've re-signed several of their own veterans to extensions, added a lot of free agents especially on the defensive side of the ball and added nine prospects via the NFL draft. So, which one is Patrick's personal favorite? He runs down a handful of moves that could be in the top spot before explaining why for him it's ultimately the addition of edge rusher Joey Bosa. Also, it won't be long before wide receiver Gabe Davis finds a new home after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars and it's highly unlikely to be with the Buffalo Bills, but at least the possibility is there for right now and fans have plenty to say about that. Patrick has thoughts on people who land on either side of the fence.Cole Bishop starting at safety, Joe Brady's brain fart at the most inopportune time last year and Dalton Kincaid needing to step up are also topics, as is the NHL playoffs making a fan hate the Buffalo Sabres even more. That plus a food review on The Hoagie Stop on Clinton Street and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by PK from the Buffalo Sports Collective for a conversation covering several Buffalo sports topics, including a potential Gabe Davis reunion with the Bills, the Sabres remaining laughable and a Bandits championship preview. The Jacksonville Jaguars released Davis just one year after signing him to a three-year, $39 million deal. Naturally, talk on social media immediately began to pour in about a potential Davis return to the Bills. The guys discuss it and while so many factors make it feel (highly) unlikely, such as what the room already looks like and Gabe having zero special teams value, it's not something that should be ruled completely out until he signs with another team. Plus, would a Gabe return show a lack of confidence in the player it feels like they drafted to replace him to begin with in Keon Coleman? Also, the Sabres announced Eric Staal is being hired to be a special assistant to general manager Kevyn Adams, who somehow reportedly is keeping his GM job and will return in the role for a sixth season. That coupled with a few other moves and rumored moves just has the guys laughing and of course, leads to yet another Patrick rant against the organization he considers the worst in all of professional sports. He's probably not alone---is the faith among the fan base quite literally the lowest it's ever been?Thankfully Buffalo sports fans have the Bandits to root for (if you're not, you should be). PK covers the Bandits brilliantly for Buffalo Sports Collective and has plenty of insight as the team gets ready to try and win their third consecutive NLL championship that begins in Buffalo on Friday May 16th. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran goes over ten Buffalo Bills predictions he has that will play out between now and the Week one start of the 2025 NFL regular season. It's never too early for predictions, even though we certainly reserve the right to change them at some point down the line. For now though, Patrick feels pretty good about 10 things he sees happening. Among those is a returning Tre White impressing enough during the summer to at least temporarily take back control of a starting cornerback job alongside Christian Benford, even with first-round draft pick Maxwell Hairston. As Patrick explains, it's no indictment against Hairston as much as a (hopefully) fully healthy Tre White having the experience and confidence from head coach Sean McDermott that he can put White in to begin the season while letting Hairston ease his way before eventually taking over. Also, White's return felt great to a lot of Bills fans but between he and a trio of cornerback draft picks last month, the news isn't great for Dane Jackson, who Patrick predicts will have a second stint with the Bills that's short lived.James Cook likely won't get any extension in 2025 and almost certainly not before the season but Patrick doesn't think Cook's going to be an issue going into training camp in July. He does see another Bills veteran getting inked to an extension before the season starts.  That plus a potentially big camp battle at safety, an unheralded rookie from last year Patrick thinks can take a big step in 2025 and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren (SB Nation) to discuss the Buffalo Bills and more specifically, dissect some of the worst decisions of Brandon Beane through his tenure so far as Bills general manager. So it's clear in the show notes just as it was said repeatedly on the podcast---this is not meant to be an indictment of Beane. The guys both think by and large Beane has done a fantastic job not just building the Bills roster but keeping them in a position to consistently challenge for a championship every season. He's made a lot more good decisions than bad ones. That said, the guys are diggig into and discussing the latter. From three early round draft picks who flamed out quickly, to a handful of free agent signings that didn't turn out the way Beane hoped, a few regretful contract extensions and a pair of trades Beane probably wishes he had back, Beane's not above being criticized. They also discuss the offseasons of two AFC rivals, Baltimore and Cincinnati. We consider them THE most underrated spot for wings, pizza and other great food in Western New York plus it's a great place to drink and have a great time.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's SubstackTwitter: @PatrickMoranTBBlue Sky: @PatrickMoranTB.bsky.socialInstagram: @PatrickMoranTBFacebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast
