On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it's another edition of The Podbag, chockfull with submissions from listeners that Patrick Moran is responding to, including a submission from a listener who says Buffalo Bills edge rusher Joey Bosa should be treated like a lottery ticket with zero expectations. The Bills drafted three defensive lineman with their first four picks and coupled with what they already, they shouldn't have any real expectations for Bosa this season, at least according to the submission. Patrick takes great exception to that, saying the money spent on Bosa automatically makes him someone that should be counted on to have a very good season, and not just the playoffs. Winning your division comes first and foremost and then home field advantage matters too, both things that come as a result of the regular season, which is why Patrick also takes exception to those who say guys like Bosa only need to matter for January. Also, another listener is worried about the defensive line on a whole in part because it appears the Bills are banking on significant contributions from three rookies. Another explains what it will take for the Bills defense to be great this season and adds that Patrick and many others are sleeping on second year safety Cole Bishop. There's more Bills topics and also a few Sabres things as well, including a comical plan on how the Sabres can even get worse next season. That plus an interesting Sean McDermott with a Bills beat reporter and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. 1:30pm Hour 1: How George Wilson thinks Taylor Rapp will do in his second season in the NFL.
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it's another edition of The Podbag, chockfull with submissions from listeners that Patrick Moran is responding to, including painting a picture of what would be the ultimate Buffalo Bills most optimistic "what if" scenario for 2025.There's 32 teams in the NFL banking on or at least hoping for the most optimistic what if scenarios for their teams to achieve the most success, but few around the league have a roster as deeply talented as the Bills, led of course by the reigning NFL MVP at quarterback. A listener of the show submitted a bunch of factors that if they fall Buffalo's way, this would be the year they finally get over the hump and bring a Super Bowl to Buffalo. Among those discussed besides the obvious health factors is Dalton Kincaid and Keon Coleman taking a big step on offense, Joey Bosa finding the player he was early in his career with the Chargers, Max Hairston being the real deal and Cole Bishop having a significant step forward in his sophomore campaign.Patrick keeps the party going to on the what-if scenarios---citing Joe Brady learning from what Patrick perceives as a meltdown in the AFC title game in addition to Josh Palmer giving Buffalo more at wide receiver than Amari Cooper did.Other submissions also discussed include examining if AJ Epenesa is just another guy on the Bills roster, the Bills bye week coming at an opportune time for the defense, chastising recurring guest Matt Warren for picking Miami to beat Buffalo in Florida this season and Miami "poser" head coach Mike McDaniel. Also, a regular listener takes a stand against the Sabres hatred and defends his favorite team. That plus Mitch Marner, WNBA, a weekend trip food recommendation for a Buffalo trip and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it's another edition of The Podbag as Patrick Moran is responding to comments, takes and questions submitted by listeners covering several topics, including an incredibly high ceiling projection for Buffalo Bills safety Cole Bishop going into his second season. It's no secret Brandon Beane and the Buffalo staff were extremely thrilled to land Bishop in the second round of the draft last year. Unfortunately for everyone Bishop's rookie season didn't go as hoped. He got injured in training camp during the summer to take him out of a three-way competition to start at safety and seemed to play catchup for a lot of the season after returning, especially in his first start in Houston in Week five where he looked lost out there multiple times. Injuries to Damar Hamlin and Taylor Rapp led to Bishop starting late in the season and again in the playoffs and while he struggled some (like everyone else in the secondary) he did show flashes of being a very good player. That leads someone in this week's Podbag to provide a hot (understatement) take that Bishop will be a Pro Bowl or even All Pro safety this year in his sophomore campaign. Patrick discusses that while obviously tempering those kind of expectations. Also there's a handful of questions and comments about the NFL schedule that was officially released on Wednesday. How does Patrick feel about it and what did he like and dislike the most now that the slate has been revealed? Also discussed are special teams being overrated, a fair evaluation of Beane, passing on Gabe Davis, some fans of this podcast and someone who's clearly not a fan of Nine Eleven Tavern wings. That and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red'sat 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. It's another edition of The Podbag on today's episode of Talking Buffalo, as Patrick Moran is responding to questions, comments and takes from listeners on several topics, including being asked what's his single favorite Buffalo Bills transaction move of the offseason.Regardless of how you feel about the Bills offseason, it's indisputable that it's been a very busy one for general manager Brandon Beane and his staff. They've re-signed several of their own veterans to extensions, added a lot of free agents especially on the defensive side of the ball and added nine prospects via the NFL draft. So, which one is Patrick's personal favorite? He runs down a handful of moves that could be in the top spot before explaining why for him it's ultimately the addition of edge rusher Joey Bosa. Also, it won't be long before wide receiver Gabe Davis finds a new home after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars and it's highly unlikely to be with the Buffalo Bills, but at least the possibility is there for right now and fans have plenty to say about that. Patrick has thoughts on people who land on either side of the fence.Cole Bishop starting at safety, Joe Brady's brain fart at the most inopportune time last year and Dalton Kincaid needing to step up are also topics, as is the NHL playoffs making a fan hate the Buffalo Sabres even more. That plus a food review on The Hoagie Stop on Clinton Street and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. It's another edition of The Podbag on this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran responds to questions, comments and takes submitted by fans, consisting this week of all Buffalo Bills and including where the 2024 Bills draft class stands one year later. It's near impossible to tell if a draft class will ultimately pan out well or not after just one year and this past one was no exception, but there's certainly clues. Patrick discusses how opportunity still knocks big time for the first two picks, Keon Coleman and Cole Bishop and how they could carry roles significant to the success of the 2025 Bills. Conversely, even after just one year it's getting harder to see a clear path for third round pick Dewayne Carter getting consistent playing time after Brandon Beane traded up for defensive tackles two times in the first four rounds last week. Ray Davis seems pretty locked into the same role he had in 2024, at least for this season while the others from the 2024 class are pretty locked into roster depth, though Patrick has some decently high hopes for Javon Solomon. Also, the Bills signed wide receiver Elijah Moore on Wednesday and Patrick thinks it's a very good move, especially for this time of the offseason. It also alleviates or at least should some of the frustration of the Bills not taking a wide receiver before the seventh round last week and let's not forget—Moore just turned 25 years old.Patrick also responds to takes involving first-round cornerback Max Hairston, people who think trading up for TJ Sanders was dumb, if Damar Hamlin's roster spot could be in trouble and some perhaps going overboard on the Kansas City praising. That plus a few thoughts on yesterday's show with Bills superfan Tommy Parzymieso and much more. ♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's SubstackTwitter: @PatrickMoranTBBlue Sky: @PatrickMoranTB.bsky.socialInstagram: @PatrickMoranTBFacebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red'sat 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, its another edition of The Podbag and Patrick Moran is responding to several takes and questions from listeners, including some pretty significant criticism on some of prospect selections in both the seven round Buffalo Bills mock drafts over the past two weeks on the show. One of Patrick's favorite content creators in the business, Anthony Prohaska of Cover 1 joined Talking Buffalo yesterday to play Brandon Beane in a mock draft. The first round went reasonably find but things fell apart on night two due to a few surprise picks and the refusal of Miami to agree to a trade up, throwing a big monkey wretch in Anthony's plan. He ended up choosing Ohio State defensive end JT Tuimoloau and Texas safety Andrew Mukuba, and it wasn't warmly received by a lot of commenting fans. Patrick takes us inside the ropes of the mock and what led them to the picks while also defending them, saying that while the window dressing doesn't look that great doesn't mean they wouldn't be effective additions to the roster. There's also topics expressing the concern of Taylor Rapp and Cole Bishop being the starting safety tandem, someone hoping for a Tre White reunion, a skepticism about drafting any wide receiver of real interest, why Terry Pegula is a good Bills owner, the never ending James Cook drama and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nations to discuss several Buffalo Bills topics, including an examination on some of the primary reasons for concerns when it comes to the 2025 Bills as things currently stand.Don't want to get this twisted---this is not a pile on the Buffalo Bills for any and all of their perceived shortcomings with the intention of being negative episodes. In fact, the guys go out of their way to praise Brandon Beane and staff and what appears to be a really solid offseason balance of locking up core players for the long term while investing free agent dollars in areas of need, particularly on the defensive line. The Bills are poised to be in the mix for an AFC championship yet again this season and for good reason---it's a very well put together roster with a lot of strengths, none so more than the MVP quarterback. However, that doesn't mean this is roster without flaws or least question marks around it and both Patrick and Matt put on their critically objective hats and discuss several of them, including what appears to be a pretty big leap of faith that Keon Coleman will grow into a very good wide receiver in his second year, the boundary cornerback position looking razor thin (again, as things stand) and a safety room that least Patrick isn't ready to start believing in.They also wonder how much, if at all the James Cook contract situation could be an issue come training camp in July and if it'll resolve itself or become a New York Jets 2024 Haasan Reddick situation in the worse case. That plus are the Bills doing enough to help Josh Allen be great, will Miami star receiver Tyreek Hill actually end up getting traded, thoughts on Cam Ward very likely being the number one overall pick and much more. You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattRichWarren and be sure to check out Buffalo Rumblingsfor your (really good) daily Bills content.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red'sat 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation for their weekly chat and the focus today is on 10 very big questions Brandon Beane and the Buffalo Bills are pondering as they get ready to attack free agency beginning on March 10. Last year's strategy due primarily to economics was very straightforward. The Bills shed a lot of salary by jettison several players who were leaders and part of their core, a list that included names like Jordan Poyer, Tre White, Mitch Morse and Stefon Diggs. It was a very low-key free agency spearheaded by the additions of Mack Hollins and Curtis Samuel. Things turned out wonderfully for Buffalo despite the mostly "uneventful" offseason from Beane and company. The expectation around league circles is different this time around. The Bills are expected to put some serious resources into a few positions, very likely on the defensive line above all else. Prior to there's several questions in need of discussing which the guys do, among them being what to do with Von Miller, is Daquan Jones addition by subtraction at this point of his career, what's their plan for attack at cornerback and what's their level of faith in safety Cole Bishop going into year two? Also, Matt has thoughts on what the price should be that Beane's willing to pay to acquire a Myles Garrett or Max Crosby if either player is actually available. That plus a few other Bills questions, where Rams quarterback Matt Stafford may end up this season and tons more. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to discuss some of the biggest dilemmas that Brandon Beane and the Buffalo Bills will be facing coming up soon this offseason. Beane and his staff have difficult decisions to make every offseason and this one will certainly be no different. Among the topics Patrick and Matt go over is if Buffalo will keep, restructure and cut Matt Milano and/or Von Miller and it comes clear you can make a case to keep one, both or none. Extensions could also play a huge role in the shape of this offseason. Greg Rousseau, James Cook, Khalil Shakir, Terrell Bernard and Christian Benford among others are all slated to go into the final years of their respective contracts. How many should be extended if possible and what should the pecking order be? Patrick admits to having some reservations about a few players based on how the postseason played out. The guys also chat about what they think should happen with the starting cornerback spot alongside Benford, feelings about Cole Bishop becoming a starter next year and a confidence in level in Keon Coleman taking a big step in his second year. They also have thoughts on a potential Garrett Myles trade, the Super Bowl on Sunday, a potential league rule change and much more. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by longtime friend Tone Pucks for the first time in a quite awhile for a conversation focused on the biggest talking points as the Buffalo Bills get ready for Denver in NFL wildcard round playoff action on Sunday. The episode is recorded live from Mooney's Sports Bar & Grill, 1531 Military Road. It's Tone's first time back on the show since the beginning of September before the Bills regular season started and after a few minutes it becomes obvious his intention is to highjack the show, They jump right into a talk surrounding several talking points and important factors as Buffalo readies for another playoff run-when Pucks is in the mood too. Among the topics is discussed at length is coming to the realization that if the Bills are truly Super Bowl contenders, fans and the media shouldn't be TOO concerned about facing a Denver team that while certainly good, hasn't been to the playoffs since 2015 and features a rookie quarterback, something Sean McDermott has historically feasted on. That said it would be shortsighted to not have any concerns. The guys talk about why Denver is clearly the best football team the Bills have faced in the wildcard round during the Josh Allen era and elements of the Bills that can be worrisome, such as being heavily reliant on takeaways with the defense and the tough task of taming a pretty ferocious Denver pass rush. That plus thoughts on McDermott going with Damar Hamlin over Cole Bishop at safety, Matt Milano sitting out the season finale last week, Bills X-factors for the game, a prediction from Tone Pucks and much more. Big thanks again to Mooney's Sports Bar & Grill for being a gracious host as well as great food and vibes. On this episode of Talking Buffalo it's another edition of The Podbag, where the audience controls the narrative and topics with their comments and questions submitted through social media, with a heavy emphasis of course on the Buffalo Bills and their blazing 9-2 start. As one regular to the show points out, Josh Allen is putting together a strong MVP caliber season despite not having the elite stats he's had in seasons past. Patrick Moran explains why Josh is at the top of his game and sticking with the stats not telling the whole story narrative, James Cook looks like a much better running back this year compared to last despite being on pace for less rushing yards, receptions, receiving yards and yards per carry than 2023. Of course, finding the end zone on the ground 10 times in 10 games is a big reason why. Patrick's also asked about Matt Milano's return and one listener wary of the impact he'll have. There's also a segment detailing the job Damar Hamlin's done, what if anything to expect from Cole Bishop, Taron Johnson being on top of his game and someone throws out a potential Bills free agent Patrick's got zero interest in. That plus has Sean McDermott finally turned the corner for good, would Terry Pegula ever sell the Buffalo Sabres in a scenario where the team would then relocate and much more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast Learn more about your ad choices. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran discusses his biggest takeaways after watching the All-22 film and going over the PFF grades from the Buffalo Bills gut wrenching three point road loss on Sunday against the Houston Texans. To put it mildly, the Bills offense is a mess right now and has been for the past two weeks. Patrick talks about it not being any singular reason but rather a collaborative effort in its struggles, from bad game planning to predictable play calling, wide receivers who rarely get open and don't make plays when they do, an offensive line suddenly struggling to keep the pocket and at least in this game, a quarterback in Josh Allen who was quite frankly pretty awful. If these past two weeks have been a bump in a road or a pattern that could stay consistent for the rest of the season remains to be seen but Patrick's convinced a trade for a wide receiver considerably better than what was trotted out on Sunday is critical if Brandon Beane's serious about trying to win a championship this season. Defensively the results were much better, all things (injuries) considered. Patrick talks about being impressed with rookie defensive tackles DeWayne Carter and an impactful return from middle linebacker Terrel Bernard. It wasn't all good though----the safety play was again subpar and that unfortunately includes second round rookie Cole Bishop in his first NFL start, one he'd like to forget. A mistake on special teams that proved costly is also discussed as well as some big picture perspective after five weeks, a huge game coming up next Monday night and more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. It's another edition of The Podbag today on Talking Buffalo, the weekly episode where the audience controls the narrative as Patrick Moran responds to several questions and takes from consumers of this show, with plenty of Buffalo Bills camp talk dominating this week. Mike Edwards going down with a hamstring injury has opened the door for Damar Hamlin or a rookie, Cole Bishop to begin the season as the team's starting free safety. Either would be a great story for different reasons. Patrick answers a few comments directed at both players and feels that with the team signing Kareem Jackson it probably puts to bed the chances of them adding Justin Simmons and/or bringing back Micah Hyde. Patrick also responds to submissions regarding Kahlil Shakir seeming ready to pop for the offense, Tyrell Shavers indicative of a receiving unit that's poor in depth and what Terry Pegula should or shouldn't be saying. There's also a few Buffalo Sabres takes on Jeff Skinner on UPL and Jeff Skinner included. That plus from Joe From Queens is a curmudgeon, Patrick "bends over" for hack Buffalo reporters and much more. If you want to have your question or comment featured on next week's podcast, leave on Twitter, the Talking Buffalo YouTube channel or via email to talkingbuffalopodcastd@gmail.com ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, the pads went on for the first time at Buffalo Bills training camp and Patrick Moran was there to accumulate several observations from Monday's practice, including defensive end Greg Rousseau having another dominant showing. There's been several accounts of Rousseau having a really strong start to camp and after seeing his first camp of the season in person, Patrick is completely on board. He discusses what he saw from Rousseau during practice, including dismantling right tackle Spencer Brown multiple times during both individual and team drills. Rousseau's going into his fourth season and is being counted on to elevate his game to a level that puts him up there among the league's better edge defenders. He's also got a lot potentially on the line when it comes to commanding a second contract. Also, after no injuries of significance through the first few days, that streak came to an end with news that likely starting free safety Mike Edwards is expected to miss multiple weeks with a hamstring injury. Patrick talks about how that probably makes it Damar Hamlin versus rookie Cole Bishop for the starting spot, or possibly opens the door for a Micah Hyde return if both sides are serious about it--or maybe even a big swing on free agent Justin Simmons. That plus other notable things Patrick's seeing, including pretty solid play from Kaiir Elam and Kingsley Jonathan, another potential hamstring injury (this time to Ty Johnson), a Cinderella story in the making at wide receiver with Tyrell Shavers and plenty more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens for a full Buffalo Bills training camp preview as the team gets set to officially open training camp tomorrow. The "offseason" is finally over as Buffalo gets into things at camp and the guys go through the team positionally to take a thorough look at the roster, discussing both scenarios and raising several potential questions. Among those discussed is if we can expect to see a more vocal Josh Allen going forward, if Ray Davis has as legitimate chance to leapfrog Ty Johnson on the running back depth chart quickly, how the back end of the receiver depth chart may play out and if Dawson Knox can have a bounce back season. That's just the offense. Defensively the guys discuss if Von Miller will look like the Von of two seasons ago, Matt Milano's health being critical, Kaiir Elam having one last chance to avoid the "bust" label and a key battle shaping up between Taylor Rapp and Cole Bishop. They also talk about last weekend's Mafia Con, Josh Allen's place and perception among today's NFL quarterbacks as well as all-time and much more.
