On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to discuss a handful of Buffalo Bills topics, including an examination of their 2024 offseason one year later and the never ending saga of James Cook this offseason. It's been an eventful offseason for Brandon Beane and company since losing to Kansas City in the AFC title game this past January. Rather than focusing on that today the guys are going back a ful year to review how the 2024 offseason went. They reflect on and discuss some of the Bills biggest moves, including the re-signings of David Edwards, AJ Epenesa and Taylor Rapp, contract extensions for Dion Dawkins, Taron Johnson and Spencer Brown, signing Curtis Samuel and the draft selections of Keon Coleman, Cole Bishop and Ray Davis. As for Cook, how his contract and Cook's participation with the Bills plays out this season remains mysterious as the Bills begin mandatory minicamp this week but it's certainly a step in the right direction that he reported for minicamp. Matt and Patrick wonder who may blink first if push comes to shove this summer at training camp and potentially into the regular season. That plus some commentary on head coach Sean McDermott and plenty more. You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattRichWarren and be sure to check out Buffalo Rumblings for your (really good) daily Bills content.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it's another edition of The Podbag, chockfull with submissions from listeners that Patrick Moran is responding to, including a submission from a listener who says Buffalo Bills edge rusher Joey Bosa should be treated like a lottery ticket with zero expectations. The Bills drafted three defensive lineman with their first four picks and coupled with what they already, they shouldn't have any real expectations for Bosa this season, at least according to the submission. Patrick takes great exception to that, saying the money spent on Bosa automatically makes him someone that should be counted on to have a very good season, and not just the playoffs. Winning your division comes first and foremost and then home field advantage matters too, both things that come as a result of the regular season, which is why Patrick also takes exception to those who say guys like Bosa only need to matter for January. Also, another listener is worried about the defensive line on a whole in part because it appears the Bills are banking on significant contributions from three rookies. Another explains what it will take for the Bills defense to be great this season and adds that Patrick and many others are sleeping on second year safety Cole Bishop. There's more Bills topics and also a few Sabres things as well, including a comical plan on how the Sabres can even get worse next season. That plus an interesting Sean McDermott with a Bills beat reporter and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. 1:30pm Hour 1: How George Wilson thinks Taylor Rapp will do in his second season in the NFL.
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it's another edition of The Podbag, chockfull with submissions from listeners that Patrick Moran is responding to, including painting a picture of what would be the ultimate Buffalo Bills most optimistic "what if" scenario for 2025.There's 32 teams in the NFL banking on or at least hoping for the most optimistic what if scenarios for their teams to achieve the most success, but few around the league have a roster as deeply talented as the Bills, led of course by the reigning NFL MVP at quarterback. A listener of the show submitted a bunch of factors that if they fall Buffalo's way, this would be the year they finally get over the hump and bring a Super Bowl to Buffalo. Among those discussed besides the obvious health factors is Dalton Kincaid and Keon Coleman taking a big step on offense, Joey Bosa finding the player he was early in his career with the Chargers, Max Hairston being the real deal and Cole Bishop having a significant step forward in his sophomore campaign.Patrick keeps the party going to on the what-if scenarios---citing Joe Brady learning from what Patrick perceives as a meltdown in the AFC title game in addition to Josh Palmer giving Buffalo more at wide receiver than Amari Cooper did.Other submissions also discussed include examining if AJ Epenesa is just another guy on the Bills roster, the Bills bye week coming at an opportune time for the defense, chastising recurring guest Matt Warren for picking Miami to beat Buffalo in Florida this season and Miami "poser" head coach Mike McDaniel. Also, a regular listener takes a stand against the Sabres hatred and defends his favorite team. That plus Mitch Marner, WNBA, a weekend trip food recommendation for a Buffalo trip and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it's another edition of The Podbag as Patrick Moran is responding to comments, takes and questions submitted by listeners covering several topics, including an incredibly high ceiling projection for Buffalo Bills safety Cole Bishop going into his second season. It's no secret Brandon Beane and the Buffalo staff were extremely thrilled to land Bishop in the second round of the draft last year. Unfortunately for everyone Bishop's rookie season didn't go as hoped. He got injured in training camp during the summer to take him out of a three-way competition to start at safety and seemed to play catchup for a lot of the season after returning, especially in his first start in Houston in Week five where he looked lost out there multiple times. Injuries to Damar Hamlin and Taylor Rapp led to Bishop starting late in the season and again in the playoffs and while he struggled some (like everyone else in the secondary) he did show flashes of being a very good player. That leads someone in this week's Podbag to provide a hot (understatement) take that Bishop will be a Pro Bowl or even All Pro safety this year in his sophomore campaign. Patrick discusses that while obviously tempering those kind of expectations. Also there's a handful of questions and comments about the NFL schedule that was officially released on Wednesday. How does Patrick feel about it and what did he like and dislike the most now that the slate has been revealed? Also discussed are special teams being overrated, a fair evaluation of Beane, passing on Gabe Davis, some fans of this podcast and someone who's clearly not a fan of Nine Eleven Tavern wings. That and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red'sat 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. It's another edition of The Podbag on today's episode of Talking Buffalo, as Patrick Moran is responding to questions, comments and takes from listeners on several topics, including being asked what's his single favorite Buffalo Bills transaction move of the offseason.Regardless of how you feel about the Bills offseason, it's indisputable that it's been a very busy one for general manager Brandon Beane and his staff. They've re-signed several of their own veterans to extensions, added a lot of free agents especially on the defensive side of the ball and added nine prospects via the NFL draft. So, which one is Patrick's personal favorite? He runs down a handful of moves that could be in the top spot before explaining why for him it's ultimately the addition of edge rusher Joey Bosa. Also, it won't be long before wide receiver Gabe Davis finds a new home after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars and it's highly unlikely to be with the Buffalo Bills, but at least the possibility is there for right now and fans have plenty to say about that. Patrick has thoughts on people who land on either side of the fence.Cole Bishop starting at safety, Joe Brady's brain fart at the most inopportune time last year and Dalton Kincaid needing to step up are also topics, as is the NHL playoffs making a fan hate the Buffalo Sabres even more. That plus a food review on The Hoagie Stop on Clinton Street and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. It's another edition of The Podbag on this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran responds to questions, comments and takes submitted by fans, consisting this week of all Buffalo Bills and including where the 2024 Bills draft class stands one year later. It's near impossible to tell if a draft class will ultimately pan out well or not after just one year and this past one was no exception, but there's certainly clues. Patrick discusses how opportunity still knocks big time for the first two picks, Keon Coleman and Cole Bishop and how they could carry roles significant to the success of the 2025 Bills. Conversely, even after just one year it's getting harder to see a clear path for third round pick Dewayne Carter getting consistent playing time after Brandon Beane traded up for defensive tackles two times in the first four rounds last week. Ray Davis seems pretty locked into the same role he had in 2024, at least for this season while the others from the 2024 class are pretty locked into roster depth, though Patrick has some decently high hopes for Javon Solomon. Also, the Bills signed wide receiver Elijah Moore on Wednesday and Patrick thinks it's a very good move, especially for this time of the offseason. It also alleviates or at least should some of the frustration of the Bills not taking a wide receiver before the seventh round last week and let's not forget—Moore just turned 25 years old.Patrick also responds to takes involving first-round cornerback Max Hairston, people who think trading up for TJ Sanders was dumb, if Damar Hamlin's roster spot could be in trouble and some perhaps going overboard on the Kansas City praising. That plus a few thoughts on yesterday's show with Bills superfan Tommy Parzymieso and much more. ♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's SubstackTwitter: @PatrickMoranTBBlue Sky: @PatrickMoranTB.bsky.socialInstagram: @PatrickMoranTBFacebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red'sat 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, its another edition of The Podbag and Patrick Moran is responding to several takes and questions from listeners, including some pretty significant criticism on some of prospect selections in both the seven round Buffalo Bills mock drafts over the past two weeks on the show. One of Patrick's favorite content creators in the business, Anthony Prohaska of Cover 1 joined Talking Buffalo yesterday to play Brandon Beane in a mock draft. The first round went reasonably find but things fell apart on night two due to a few surprise picks and the refusal of Miami to agree to a trade up, throwing a big monkey wretch in Anthony's plan. He ended up choosing Ohio State defensive end JT Tuimoloau and Texas safety Andrew Mukuba, and it wasn't warmly received by a lot of commenting fans. Patrick takes us inside the ropes of the mock and what led them to the picks while also defending them, saying that while the window dressing doesn't look that great doesn't mean they wouldn't be effective additions to the roster. There's also topics expressing the concern of Taylor Rapp and Cole Bishop being the starting safety tandem, someone hoping for a Tre White reunion, a skepticism about drafting any wide receiver of real interest, why Terry Pegula is a good Bills owner, the never ending James Cook drama and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium.
