In this installment of our Amazon Seller Journey series we chat with Cara Sayer. Cara has an amazing story of going all in to create her business and brand. She is highly motivating to talk with as well. In 2007, she was a new mum, desperately trying to get her gorgeous baby girl to sleep when they were out & about. It bugged her that she couldn't find a product that solved her apparently very common problem, as she saw her friends struggling with the exact same thing. Her breakthrough moment was in around mid-2008, she was sitting in Café Rouge, having lunch with friends, and they fed the babies first. Everyone put a muslin or blanket over the pram, to get them off to sleep – and she remembers thinking how ridiculous it was that there wasn't a product out there! So she decided to make one…and invented SnoozeShade (with ZERO experience in retail or manufacturing!) SnoozeShade is now the world's best-selling range of baby sun and sleep shades. When it opened in 1919, the Hotel Pennsylvania was the largest hotel in the world. Over a hundred years later, its fate remains uncertain. Is it too big to save? After the Pennsylvania Railroad completed its colossal Pennsylvania Station in 1910, the railroad quickly realized it would need a companion hotel equal to the station's exquisite grandeur. And it would need an uncommonly ambitious hotelier to operate it. Enter E.M. Statler, the hotel king who made his name at American World's Fairs and brought sophisticated new ideas to this exceptional hotel geared towards middle-class and business travelers. But the Hotel Pennsylvania would have another claim to fame during the Swing Era. Its restaurants and ballrooms -- particularly the Café Rouge -- would feature some of the greatest names of the Big Band Era. Glenn Miller played the Cafe Rouge many times at the height of his orchestra's fame. He was so associated with the hotel that one of his biggest hits is a tribute -- "Pennsylvania 6-5000." The hotel outlived the demolition of the original Penn Station, but it currently sits empty and faces imminent demolition thanks to an ambitious new plan to rehabilitate the neighborhood. What will be the fate of this landmark to music history? Is this truly the last dance for the Hotel Pennsylvania? boweryboyshistory.com Listen to the official Bowery Boys playlist inspired by this episode on Spotify. Andy and David are back after a little Summer break talking about comedy and great places to eat while on the road performing it. Andy starts us out in the Outer Banks of NC in Kill Devil Hills at a small joint called Food Dudes Kitchen where the fish tacos are awesome and the hot sauce is even better. David then tells us about his family vacation to London England where he just had to go to Café Rouge because Andy talked it up so much. He also loved the Croquet Madame with the Emmental Cheese! David enjoyed his daily coffee from Costa Coffee while in London and you must listen to the story of how he and the family ended up at 5 Guys Burgers & Fries after abandoning a different American Restaurant. Andy then talks about a place he discovered in Nags Head, NC not too far from Food Dudes called Biscuits N' Porn where they serve... well... you know. And after two failed visits, he finally had some delicious biscuits. You have to hear the story of the Hoopty Car with the lovely mural in the window that David and his wife encountered while in Colorado Springs, CO. This was a very funny episode if we do say so ourselves. Enjoy!
David and Andy are talking about Andy's trip to London this week and some great places he ate while he and the family traveled for vacation there. They start at The Minories where the entire family enjoyed some unbelievable Fish and Chips and Andy actually drank a Beer. I mean The Minories is a Pub, so why not? Not far from there a few days later hey went to a French Diner called Café Rouge where they all enjoyed some fabulous French cuisine... but in London. Andy refers to a great coffee spot Caffé Nero as the "House of Carbs" and of course there are tons of laughs. Be sure and listen as we act like complete idiots and do a little Monty Python at the end. It's worth it! Enjoy!
