India once seen as a tea stronghold is emerging as a dynamic market for premium coffee. One brand leveraging this pivot is Costa Coffee. The British coffee house has a strange business arrangement in India. Owned by Coke, its outlets are operated by Pepsi’s biggest Indian bottler. Nevertheless and unfazed by growing competition from premium coffee names like Blue Tokai and Tim Hortons, Costa counts India as one of its top markets and wants to expand its footprint of 200 outlets in the near future. In this episode, Philippe Schaillee, Global CEO at Costa Coffee, talks to host Ratna Bhushan about how the legacy brand is blending tradition with the agility of a startup to win over a new generation of coffee enthusiasts. From Gen Z’s growing appetite for cold brews and flavored options to navigating post-COVID inflation without compromising on quality, Philippe breaks down Costa’s business strategy for a market that is really waking up and smelling the coffee. He sheds light on the company’s city-focused growth strategy, the role of local partnerships, and what sets Costa apart in a fiercely competitive, youth-driven market. Stay tuned in as we explore What makes a coffee experience aspirational today? Can global brands win by going hyper-local? And is India the future powerhouse of the global coffee revolution?Tune in You can follow Ratna Bhushan on her Linkedin, Twitter profiles and read her Newspaper Articles. Many subcontract manufacturers have the challenge of knowing which machines to purchase to suit the diversity of work that comes through the door. For other businesses, it's development and growth that dictate the purchasing decisions. For Ian Gibson, Managing Director of Vision Precision Engineering, the latter scenario led to investments in XYZ machine tools. Starting the business with his uncle, Dennis, they set about finding work - a significant challenge. Using existing contacts, they found an unlikely source of work making parts for coffee machines in Costa Coffee stores. “We were approached to make improvements to the in-store machines so that the baristas could not make mistakes in loading the cleaning products used in the machines,” says Mr. Gibson. This influx of work prompted the business to seek improvements in their manufacturing processes, leading them to XYZ for a solution to make parts faster than on their traditional milling machine. Mr Gibson continues: “Steve Cox, the XYZ Area Salesman regularly called in and, when the company needed to invest in new equipment, he helped select the right machine which was an XYZ 710 vertical machining centre complete with a 4th axis.” This investment created a new dilemma as making parts faster created a bottleneck in the secondary operations. This led to further investment in a smaller machining centre from XYZ to handle the increase in demand. “Even with two machines and 4th axis fitted to the mill, we were still falling behind in supplying parts to our customers so again we contacted XYZ to see how we could improve our manufacturing further,” comments Mr. Gibson. The answer was to invest in an XYZ TC 320 LTY-driven tool lathe. “The ability to produce milled and drilled features on our turned parts was taking up capacity on the original mill, so it made sense to purchase a machine that could produce our parts in one hit which is why we decided to invest in the TC 320 LTY.” With the hardened box way-built machine with its Y and C-axis, along with driven tool capability in place, Vision Precision set about getting the most out of its latest purchase. “Now we have this machine available to us, we have been able to quote for work that previously we could not tackle,” observes Mr Gibson. This is partly due to the maximum turning diameter of 320mm and the maximum turning length of 550mm. With a bar capacity of 78mm, it also means that Vision can produce more parts from bar rather than billets, and with a barfeed purchased for the machine, lights-out machining has now become a regular occurrence. “The machine just seems to tackle everything we throw at it.” Mr. Gibson states. “Big or small, it does it all, and the material removal rates are phenomenal on jobs from 20mm depths of cut when turning to drilling a 70mm diameter hole with a modular drill in super duplex material. When you consider we were only running at 200rpm when performing the drilling and it was only using 25% of the available spindle power it's a well-built machine with great power and it holds the tolerances we demand of it all day, every day”. Mr. Gibson also notes: “It's not only the machine that's important to me but the whole package. From sales through to the installation, training and ongoing support from XYZ', the whole experience has been second to none and that's why I also purchased a CT65 HD.” By posting about its work on social media, Vision has generated interest from companies looking to outsource jobs. Business is growing, which has led to a recent move to new premises. From modifications to coffee machines, Vision is attracting work from various sectors from green energy to defence.

Did you know that in the UK alone, 22 million pieces of furniture are discarded each year, the majority of which goes directly to landfill. That amounts to an estimated 670,000 tonnes of furniture wasted, where a significant portion could be recycled and reused. (Source) It's clear to see the need for a more sustainable approach to furniture design, manufacture and lifecycle, which is where today's guest, Design Conformity, come in. Design Conformity live and breathe circular design, the process for creating products sustainably from the beginning, and offer a Life Cycle Assessment Certification Process which has already led to significant carbon reductions. Mel is joined by Adam Hamilton-Fletcher, Founder and Director at Design Conformity, to discuss the application of circular design within the furniture manufacture industry and explain how their Life Cycle Assessment certification process can help businesses reduce their carbon footprint. You'll learn · Who are Design Conformity? · What is circular design and how does it help companies reduce their carbon footprint? · What are the benefits of Design Conformity's certification? · Can sustainability be of financial and environmental benefit to businesses? · Examples of circular design in practice Resources · The ISO Show · Design Conformity · Carbon Calculator · Circular Design Guide In this episode, we talk about: [00:25] Introducing today's guest – We welcome Adam Hamilton-Fletcher, Founder and Director at Design Conformity, onto the show. Design Conformity are currently setting the standard in retail sustainability, particularly in relation to the furniture industry. [01:30] Who are Design Conformity? Adam worked in the manufacturing industry for about 15 years, designing lighting systems for major retailers like boots, Next, Marks & Spencers and Morrisons. He worked primarily with the lighting used in displays, and had been tasked with selling lighting products. In order to do so, he needed to develop a specification to help understand customer requirements, which would then be used to develop their ideal solution. The problem: There were little to no Standards in UK and Europe for the retail display industry. Which directly led to the creation of Design Conformity – who started out as an electrical and lighting Standard certification company, that developed into a full carbon certification company. They aim to become the gold Standard for sustainable furniture design. [03:10] What is Circular Design? – Circular design is born out of this principle of a circular economy. To compare, a linear economy is when we take a raw material, use it, process it, and then it's just disposed of, usually straight to landfill. Whereas, circular economy is where we take that waste product and we design it so that it can be repurposed and refreshed and reused. Those materials can then eventually be recycled – so the goal is to not use any raw materials at any point. Circular design is the intent to minimise environmental impact, to design equipment that could be reused and repurposed, and then at the end of its life be recycled. [04:05] How do Design Conformity operate? – Design Conformity look at the way that companies design their furniture and then take them through a learning process (online course). They help businesses to understand how to design a product in such a way where it can be repurposed or reused, where raw material usage can be reduced and where the shipping requirements can be reduced. They provide guidance and advice on recommended materials, including the provision on an online carbon calculator. They also provide reporting in alignment with existing carbon standards, such as ISO 14064, for product evaluation. [06:55] How can the Carbon Calculator help? By selecting a product of a particular type, you can use the estimator by entering the details of where and what you're manufacturing, and then it will give you a carbon footprint for that, which you can use to compare that against other industry designers. It displays these other designers anonymously, but you can get a feel for if your product is above or below the average for carbon emissions. [08:55] An example of the Carbon Calculator in practice – Design Conformity recently worked with Costa Coffee, who were looking to reduce the environmental impact of their of their shops and coffee lounges. The beginning of that process is to work with their manufacturers, to identify the environmental impact of the furniture that they've got. They used the Carbon Calculator to help create an initial benchmark, which highlighted key indicators that can lead to carbon reductions. [09:35] Design Conformity's Certification – They've borrowed the concept used by existing Energy Performance Certificates, by having a carbon efficiency index, ranging from C1 – C7. Their score is a bit more unique however as it incorporates elements of circular design. Their score is based on a products total carbon emissions, divided by it's size and total lifespan. An Ecolabel is then awarded based on the final score. [11:45] What are the benefits of Design Conformity's certification?:- · It's a mix between carbon reporting and a carbon rating. · It's easier for consumers to understand the benefits in comparison to companies that advertise compliance with ISO 14064 and PAS 2060. · Not just a green label, as reporting is a key component of gaining certification. · It provides a cradle to cradle analysis on a products carbon footprint and translates that into something that is recognisable. [14:15] Are businesses right to be skeptical about the value of the cost versus the value of environmental certification?– 100%! It's not uncommon for eco labels to be more of a marketing tool rather than a tool for tangible carbon reduction. A lot of them out there are unregulated and are contributing to green washing. That's where Design Conformity's differs, as they actually collate and process real data to provide tangible value and add credibility to their claims. [16:10] Will there be a time where sustainability can be of financial and environmental benefit to businesses? – Yes, absolutely! And if there is a way to do that, it's through Circular Design. As an example, if you're a manufacturing company that's producing shelving, you need to buy in steel, which can fluctuate a lot in price at any given time. But you don't need to buy more steel every time, where instead you could get your original product back, reprocess and redistribute. Adam has experience of suppliers who are practicing this, they purchase their products back at 40%-50% of the price, saving a lot of money in raw material! [19:00] Examples of companies who have embraced circular design – Tesco: They've introduced a policy whereby they purchase metal shelving, use it for 5 years, then take it back out of the store to get powder coated, cleaned and reintroduced to the store. That reduces the carbon footprint by 70% in comparison to buying a new shelving set! Boots: Their beauty halls wanted to introduce a lot of new brands, which meant a lot more displays were needed. Boots started working with Design Conformity towards earning their certification, specifically in relation to the lighting they used in stores. With Design Confomity's help, they managed to reduce the carbon footprint at selected stores by 39%! [21:20] Circular Design Guide – 14 people were involved in creating this guide, which is designed to give you an introduction to and overview of circular design. Access it over on their website. If you'd like assistance with any ISO Standards, get in contact with Blackmores and we'll be happy to help
Greetings All!Firstly, would you consider supporting our full-time ministry as we head into another increasingly "radicalised" year of service for the soon-to-come Lord Jesus? Neither of us now have salaries and the work we are doing in the background to produce all that we do is significant. You can support us here. Thank you!Podcast title music can be listened to here. In today's episode of Into the Pray, we sit down in Costa Coffee with a microphone to have a prayerful conversation 4+ months on having "left home and city" as a result of the stand we're taking concerning the chaos of the Church. We've tried to be honest, gracious and encouraging with a very niche audience mainly in mind. We hope that the public ambience isn't distracting from what we share. By providing something akin to a general update/catch-up, we talk about: — Life since leaving home and city— Reading the Bible twice in 4 months— Three key verses of Scripture: Ezekiel 12:4; Hebrews 10:34; 1 Thessalonians 5:14.— Prophetic encouragement and challenge, especially for those experiencing the inner discomfort (and even turmoil) as to if/how you are to separate yourself from all forms and communities of spiritual compromise. — Brief feature of a rather forthright naysayer called Rosemary. Also of note: Back in the spring of this I year, I published the seminal work, "The Glorious Few: Redeeming Radicalisation in the Kingdom of God." In the period of 2 weeks following publishing, several major things happened all at once that could have happened at any point in the previous 9 years. The disruption of the Lord culminated in Mairi resigning from her role as a Teacher of French in a large secondary school in Edinburgh and was a disruption that I wrote about prophetically in the book's epilogue. This episode of the Into the Pray podcast is Mairi's testimony and, as the final podcast in our home where the podcast began, please let me encourage you to listen with a prayerful heart. Perhaps you'd also share the episode to your networks. Finally, what would Nick say to your local church and leadership? The 1% Church. Thank you for listening. Maranatha! This is Zack Fuss. Today we are breaking down The Coca-Cola Company. On May 8th, 1886, Dr. John Pemberton brought this perfected syrup to Jacobs Pharmacy in downtown Atlanta, where the first glass of Coca-Cola was poured for five cents a glass. Today, more than 1. 9 billion servings per day of Coke are served worldwide. To break down Coca-Cola, I'm joined by Freddie Lait, Founder and Managing Partner at Latitude Investment Management. We cover the business of Coca-Cola and how its bottling network is imperative to its capital light business model. We discuss recent acquisitions like Costa Coffee & Body Armor and the Coca-Cola Company's expansion beyond its flagship brands and products with legacy Coke representing just 50% of their offering.

Special guest the Rev'd Richard Fothergill joined revs with a difference Jamie Franklin and Daniel French for the second half of this episode to discuss his recent experience of being debanked by the Yorkshire Building Society for his shockingly prejudicial comments about transgenderism. But our conversation was more wide-ranging, taking in Richard's experience in starting the international movement which goes by the name of The Filling Station (https://thefillingstation.org/) in response to the weakness of many local churches and the general spiritual darkness of the surrounding culture. In the first half of the episode, Daniel and Jamie discussed Psalm 2 and the nations raging against Christ, the Costa Coffee transgenderism debacle and the spiritual implications of the outrageous level of inheritance tax that we are forced to pay in this country. I recorded this episode from the Costa Coffee in the departure hall Kuala Lumpur Airport. Air Asia have lost my luggage which has all of my clothes in, including the new suit I bought for the wedding on July 19th. Feels like it's one thing after another at the moment to be honest, but if we've learned anything from the billionaires-crushed-in-a-tube-in-the-ocean saga of the last week, the more privilege you have, the worse things have to be before people have any sympathy for you.
What if going back to basics could make your meals more satisfying? Join Nick and me as we share our culinary adventures, from a simple yet scrumptious dish of chicken, avocado, and pimento cheese to the secret behind crafting the perfect grilled cheese sandwich using mayo instead of butter. Plus, we'll discuss Bryan's go-to beverage, Costa Coffee, the intriguing company that claims to have been born in Italy and raised in London. In this fascinating episode, we also tackle the world of AI regulation, TikTok, and solipsism. Delve into the motivations of influential figures calling for AI regulation and the recent US-China clash over TikTok, as well as the implications of these events. We'll also touch on the controversy surrounding AI detection in academic settings, and the future of AI in video games, content creation, and even the darker side of AI-generated experiences. As we explore the impact of AI on society, we'll consider the possibilities of combining narrow AIs for various tasks and the potential consequences of AI-generated pornography on population decline and human connection. We'll also discuss AI-generated companions and their possible effects on society, particularly in the US. Don't miss this thought-provoking and entertaining episode that will leave you pondering the future of our world, all while making you hungry for some delicious grub!
Why did an advertisement for coffee prompt a nurse to contact the company to ask them to withdraw it? The answer is that the nurse in question has 20 years experience in burn care, and the advertisement — for the coffee chain Costa Coffee — showed a scene which, if replicated in real life, could cause serious injury. That nurse is called Kristina Stiles, and she's my latest guest on the show. I saw her post and was intrigued. After a brief introductory discussion, I realised that not only was this an opportunity to highlight how humans can underestimate risk but also to learn some fascinating techniques that are used to help prevent it. On the show, we talk about the risk of burns and scalds, what you can do to prevent them from happening and get practical advice on how to respond if they occur. For easy reference, the key lessons Krissie shares are: Most burn injuries happen in the home, so preventing burns is mainly preventing hot liquid scolds in our homes.Wherever you are working with boiling water, hot pants, hot oven doors, or running a hot bath, it's really important that you separate your young family members away from those areas. But if the inevitable does happen, it's 20 minutes of cool running water. This is still effective within three hours of the burn injury.Call for help, and then wrap gently, loosely in cling film or a non-fluffy clean cloth. To see the post that led to me inviting Krissie onto the show and the Costa Coffee advertisement: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/kristina-stiles-msc-%F0%9F%87%B1%F0%9F%87%BB-%F0%9F%87%AC%F0%9F%87%A7-8b225997_burns-prevention-beburnsaware-activity-7046899226101866499-P4tr? Companies around the world are making their employees redundant. Kim Chakanetsa talks to two women who managed to re-invent themselves after losing their jobs. After being laid off in 2015, communication executive Dawn Kelly used her severance pay to open her own cafe, The Nourish Spot, in Queens, New York. Dawn, who was 58 when she started her entrepreneurial journey, had always wanted to run her own business but never had the funds to start. Hers is a story shared by many black women who, despite being the fastest-growing demographic of small and medium entrepreneurs in the USA, still face discrimination and struggle to access capital. Eleanor Tweddell worked in senior management positions in the corporate world for over twenty years for companies including Virgin Atlantic, Costa Coffee and Vodafone - until she was made redundant, twice. She wrote a book about her experience, Why Losing Your Job Could Be The Best Thing That Ever Happened To You, and started her own company, Another Door. She now coaches individuals and organisations to provide advice and support through redundancy. Clair Preston- Beer who is a managing director at Greene King pubs sits down with Jeannette to talk about all things career, business, mindset, and navigating demerging and restructuring. They cover how Claire got to be a Greene King MD and how the pub industry is responding to the trials, tribulations, challenges, and opportunities that the current economic and social climate is creating. As well as discussing the importance of diversity in the sector. KEY TAKEAWAYS Be the best version of yourself and be confident about who you are. Everyone has something special to offer. During any restructuring, good communication while restructuring is even more important. You need to be clear about the reasons for changing things and create space in the business to implement the change. You need to be present for whatever you are doing. Including for your family. Children, in particular, need you to be there for them and fully focused on them, during family time. In today's digital world, pubs are one of the last places people come together and connect. Many communities still value them and have a sense of ownership, which is a good thing, but it can also make it hard to change things. Keeping in touch and understanding your grassroots customers is essential. Analysing your data is important, but talking directly to your teams and customers is also vital. BEST MOMENTS 'I wanted to go and find a business where people were at the heart of the customer experience.' 'When you are quite disciplined and organised, it can mean you actually get better about balance.' 'I'm also very passionate about making the hospitality spaces really accessible places.' 'Make sure the change is worthwhile' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It's never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANCE.
