Ever been diagnosed with stasis dermatitis? If you're dealing with swelling, redness, or relentless itchiness on your lower legs, it's not just dry skin or aging—it could be a sign of poor circulation.Stasis dermatitis is more than just a rash. If left unchecked, it can lead to painful ulcers, infections, and serious complications. It's often mistaken for cellulitis, which means unnecessary antibiotics—and in one case, a patient was hospitalized 11 times before getting the right diagnosis. And heads up—it doesn't just show up on legs. It can also affect areas like the belly and lower back where blood tends to pool.To help us unpack this overlooked condition, I'm joined by Dr. Peter Lio—a board-certified dermatologist and eczema expert. He's a Clinical Assistant Professor at Northwestern, Harvard-trained, and has published over 100 papers, including a textbook on integrative dermatology.Dr. Lio breaks down what stasis dermatitis is, why it's often missed, and how to spot it early. If you or someone you love has unexplained swelling, itchy legs, or chronic redness—don't miss this episode!⭐️Mentioned in This Episode:- Dr. Peter Lio - https://chicagoeczema.com/ - See all the references

In this episode of Derms and Conditions, host James Q. Del Rosso, DO, invites Peter Lio, MD, a clinical professor of dermatology at Northwestern University, to explore the complexities of selecting therapies for atopic dermatitis (AD) with a particular focus on the newly approved IL-13 inhibitor, lebrikizumab. With a growing number of treatment options, Dr Lio and Dr Del Rosso examine how these therapies are enhancing patient management in unique ways. The discussion opens with a look at the current "embarrassment of riches" in AD treatments. Dermatologists now have multiple biologic options to choose from, each with distinct features. Dr Lio highlights lebrikizumab's flexible dosing, which can shift to once monthly after the initial treatment period, potentially offering patients a more manageable treatment routine. They also explore key differences among IL-13 inhibitors, such as lebrikizumab's unique binding characteristics that may influence the overall balance of IL-13 in the body. Dr Lio also notes the possibility of achieving relative remission for certain patients on lebrikizumab, as suggested by a long-term extension study where some patients maintained improvement even after stopping the drug. They also cover the safety and tolerability aspects of AD therapies, including conjunctivitis, arthropathy, and erythematous reactions sometimes seen with these drugs. Dr Lio shares insights on managing these side effects, emphasizing that despite similar mechanisms of action, switching between IL-13 inhibitors may alleviate adverse reactions for certain patients. Tune in to the full episode for expert insights on differentiating and integrating the latest therapies for AD, strategies for engaging patients in their treatment plans, and valuable guidance on navigating today's expanding therapeutic landscape.

Lecture summary: The United Nations Charter order (UNCO) and the co-evolved liberal international order (LIO) are contested with a heretofore unknown force. The steep rise in contestations in the realm of public politics rather than the courtroom demonstrates a shift from normal contestation as a source of legitimacy and ordering towards deep contestation as a political challenge of foundational elements of liberal order. Today, not only in the Global South but also across Europe and North America, sceptics of globalization on the political left and nationalist-populists on the political right are challenging the fundamental pillars of the LIO (i.e., democracy, economic openness, and multilateralism). The process is paired by growing contestations of international law that is codified in the UN Charter including contestation of core norms of the UNCO (i.e., non-intervention, human rights, and sovereignty). While the effect of deep contestation is unknowable, we do know however that normal contestation is the essence of everyday politics. The clash of interests, norms, and ideas is entirely normal. Yet, contestation can also be degenerative, moving political outcomes away from desired ends through ad hoc and perhaps inconsistent compromises. As core norms of the LIO and UNCO have become deeply contested, we require a better understanding about the expected effects. Access to contestation as the right to speak and participate in political decisions is a necessary condition for normative legitimacy and mutual recognition of the norms that govern us. Achieving this condition involves struggles about norm(ative) meaning-in-use which take place on distinct sites of global order. This raises a question about time, substance, and norm(ative) change in global order more generally and, more specifically, which elements of international order ought to be retained. The lecture posits that the observed qualitative shift from constitutive everyday contestations towards potentially degenerative political contestation calls for a methodological stocktake of how contestations work with regard to global re/ordering, i.e. whose practices count and whose norms ought to count in that process? Professor Antje Wiener FAcSS, MAE, holds the Chair of Political Science, especially Global Governance at the University of Hamburg where she is a member of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences as well as the Law Faculty. In this episode of The Real Estate Investing Podcast, Daniel and Ron Apke dive into a lesser-known but highly profitable strategy—buying land on the MLS and flipping it for a solid return. While this isn't the typical approach of acquiring land at 40% of market value, Daniel and Ron explain why tapping into platforms like Zillow and Realtor.com can still yield impressive profits. They break down the process of targeting land that's been sitting on the market, properties that are sub-dividable, or land that simply needs minor improvement to unlock its potential. The Apke brothers also share insights on using The Land Portal to enhance your property searches, including skip tracing, filtering for expired listings, and identifying land with ideal features like road frontage for future developments. They discuss how one LIO community member successfully cold-called expired MLS listings and found deals in less competitive markets. This episode is packed with tips on how to approach untapped markets and flip land using creative, strategic techniques!

In this episode of The Real Estate Investing Podcast, Daniel & Ron Apke are joined by Anthony Weiler dive deep into acquiring land deals through texting—a game-changing strategy that's taking the land investing community by storm. They share real-world success stories of land investors landing 2-4 deals per month just by texting alone, and how adding cold calling and direct mail into the mix can significantly boost monthly deals. If you're working with a tight budget, texting offers an affordable way to reach more leads without the high costs of direct mail, making it an ideal first step in your marketing efforts. The trio also highlights the power of a blended approach. From one community member on track to earn over $50,000 this month using texting, cold calling, and PPC, to the 70% of LIO members seeing success with follow-up texts, the results speak for themselves. Whether you're working full-time or flipping land part-time, texting keeps the conversation moving and adds efficiency to your business. Are you struggling with a super itchy skin rash that looks like eczema? If gluten seems to be a trigger – you might be dealing with dermatitis herpetiformis!Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) is a rare skin rash that starts off as incredibly itchy, small blisters that eventually start to become open sores due to constant scratching. This rash is generally considered to be MORE ITCHY than eczema, and is commonly found in the creases of elbows, knees, and buttocks. What causes DH, you might ask? The answer is surprising: Gluten. Yes, dermatitis herpetiformis is a gluten rash – the skin manifestation of celiac disease. In fact, eliminating gluten from your diet and skincare is necessary to find relief.Joining me to talk about the link between gluten, dermatitis herpetiformis, and celiac disease is fan-favorite guest Dr. Peter Lio, who is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology & Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, completed his internship in Pediatrics at Boston Children's Hospital, and his Dermatology training at Harvard where he served as Chief Resident in Dermatology. While at Harvard, Dr. Lio received formal training in acupuncture. Dr. Lio has written a textbook on Integrative Dermatology and has published over 100 papers. In This Episode:What is dermatitis herpetiformis (DH)?Dermatitis herpetiformis symptomsHow is this gluten rash diagnosed?Other clues that you may have dermatitis herpetiformis (e.g. altered oral health)Autoimmune conditions linked to this celiac rashCan removing gluten from your diet improve dermatitis herpetiformis symptoms?Dermatitis herpetiformis treatment optionsNutrient deficiencies associated with celiac diseaseShould you use gluten-free skincare if you have DH?Quotes“Dermatitis herpetiformis, or DH, is really an inflammatory autoimmune disease that actually results in tiny blisters, although when most patients see it, they tend to look more eczematous…It's incredibly itchy.”“[The itch] can be absolutely crazy. They can be going nuts where they're scratching. And again, it's these funny areas, elbows, knees, buttocks, and they're so uncomfortable. They can't really seem to get to the itch. It may be hot outside, but our feed drops are hotter ;P. As our hiatus nears its end (we'll be back in just 2 weeks!), we are excited to share a hilarious episode from our friend Lauren Flans over at Coming Out Pod (@comingoutpod). We have been big fans of Coming Out Pod from the very beginning and can't wait to hear what you think after listening to the episode. If you love it (and we're sure you will), don't forget to subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts! ----- Writer Elliott Maya (they/them, and "a sprinkle of he/him in, like, a fruity Victorian dandy boy way") has a real way with words, in case you couldn't tell from that parenthetical. Raised in the *extremely* strict Jehovah's Witnesses religion, Lio and their brother were also the only Black kids at their school. As if this weren't enough, Lio started going through puberty quite early, which coincided with them realizing that they were "not like the other girls, in many ways." Lio knew that college was their only chance of escape, so they started working at the age of twelve. Along the way, they attempted to hide their queerness in high school by becoming a gay bully...but in an ironic twist, they ended up becoming "horrifically" attracted to their (also queer) victim. Besides being an absolutely HILARIOUS storyteller, Lio also has Long Covid, and started the group Covid Cautious Queers. We spend the latter half of the episode talking about the ways in which Lio's illness has changed their life, and the (easy!) ways you can help not only them, but everyone in your community. In this episode of the Epigenetics Podcast, we talked with Ana Cvejic from the Biotech Research & Innovation Centre at the University of Copenhagen about her work on using sc-multiomics to characterise human developmental hematopoiesis. The conversation starts by delving into Ana's research on hematopoiesis, starting with her work on identifying novel genes controlling blood traits in zebrafish models. She explains her transition to single-cell methodologies and the application of single-cell RNA sequencing to study hematopoietic cells in zebrafish, focusing on thrombocyte lineage commitment and gene expression. The discussion progresses to her groundbreaking study on human fetal hematopoiesis, where she combined single-cell RNA-seq with single-cell ATAC-seq to understand chromatin accessibility and gene expression dynamics. Ana then shares insights into the identification of new cell surface markers and the priming of hematopoietic stem cells, particularly in conditions like Down syndrome. Furthermore, she then elaborates on the construction of a phylogenetic tree of blood development using whole-genome sequencing of single-cell-derived hematopoietic colonies from healthy human fetuses. She explains the motivation behind this study, highlighting the insights gained regarding stem cell quantities, developmental timelines, and mutations in blood development. My guest today is Lionel D. Lio is a retired team leader who spent 15 years with theBelgian National Police - Directorate of Special Units, or DSU, also know as GroupDiane. I am excited to have Lio on The Debrief because his former unit is a fantasticteam who are constantly on the front lines for European counter terrorism operations, like the one we will discuss today. The operation we will be debriefing is a proactive warrant service against a Jihadist terror cell located in the small town of Verviers, Belgium that resulted in an extended gun fight and two suspects down. This raid was intended to, and did, prevent an imminent large-scale attack in Belgium by the terrorist cell that would later go on to commit bombings and attacks in Brussels and Paris. As is usually the case with The Debrief, we will discuss the responders and, whereappropriate, use their names and units because they are heroes and need to beremembered. We will NOT be using suspects names or identifying their specific groups, because they are criminals and terrorists and need to be forgotten.Books Recommended:No Hero: The Evolution of a Navy SEAL Hardcover – November 10, 2014by Mark Owen and Kevin Maurer – ISBN13: 978-0525954521Lio's Book:In French - Terrorist Hunter | Editions RacineIn Dutch - Terroristenjager | Uitgeverij LannooContact Info:www.lioneld.belioneldofficial115@gmail.com
