It's great to get your band to a place where you can just get setup and play without any issues. That's not always easy, mind you, but it's great. Paul and Dave both have a few stories – and a few tips – about how to make this happen... and what happens when it doesn't! Crowd interaction is a critical tentpole of our "Always Be Performing" motto here at Gig Gab, and Dave had some interesting experiences with that this past weekend. Sometimes the crowd is too easy to engage, and that can present its own set of problems to be solved. Never fear, Paul is there to help solve them. Lastly, a tech question about the right kind of mix for your in-ear monitors. Really, it's a question that applies to any monitor mixes, so you'll want to hear your favorite Weekend Warriors' thoughts about that, too! In its first 60 days, The Channel had a run of winning shows featuring a schedule of first tier rock ‘n’ roll headliners including Levon Helm, Joe Cocker and Johnny Thunders. But booking national touring bands into The Channel wasn’t easy. Entrenched promoters didn’t want the competition. Local radio held an outsize influence on the success--or failure--of each show. Getting acts like The B-52’s and Gang of Four booked took a combination of balls and finesse...not to mention keeping in-house security under control at a time when Southie turf wars raged and cocaine was everywhere. This is the third episode of the true and complete story of Boston’s legendary live music club, The Channel. As this 8-episode season continues, you’ll hear all about the club’s gritty beginnings, 1980s live music heyday, and the bitter end, when local mobsters leave the club in ruins...and leave one man dead, sparking a 25-year mystery. When I sing, I am in pure bliss and joy. These are the words of singer, songwriter, musician, and philanthropist Amanda Carr.   Described by the Wall Street Journal as "a true jazz singer in a time of wannabes", Amanda's path from the little seaside town of Hingham, MA to stages around the world has not been easy. Her passion to create a life that has always been about and for the music is an inspiration to everyone who knows her. The daughter of a Big Band musician and singer, Amanda can't remember a time when music wasn't a part of her life.  In this interview, she shares stories of her childhood, remembering a time when she carried her keyboard to the local restaurant and nailed her first gig at 14. As the founder of the American Big Band Preservation Society, Amanda's mission has been to preserve this art form. Shortly after the Boston Marathon Bombings in 2013, Amanda captured the unbreakable spirit of the city when she wrote The Boston Anthem, tapping Boston rocker Charlie Farren to perform the song. Now the Executive Director of WICN radio, the NPR affiliate in Worcester, MA, Amanda is using her love music and her unique brand of leadership to energize the legendary station. For this exceptional woman, it's the lessons we take with us that make us who we are.  amandacarr.com    @amandacarrlife   @AmandaCarrMusic     @AmandaCarrMusic FB     #storybehindhersuccess     #16LifeLessons     #mydoveproductions

The show is off to a much more prosaic start this morning than usual as a last minute hitch means that we are forced to carry on without Val and his dulcet tones are sorely missed! Faith is joined in the studio by guest Charlie Farren and we each share a bicycle moment. We also take a quick look at this year's Hunt 1000 which has been an adventure packed ride, even before the Grand Depart, with snowfalls and blizzards. You can follow the riders progress here. Talk turns to the Farren Collection and Charlie explains the history and development of this world-renowned bicycle collection, the late Paul Farren's passion and commitment in developing the collection, and the era of the bicycle that is the focus of the collection. While the collection, housed in Melbourne in a private museum, encompasses over 200 bicycles a new home has been found for forty of those bicycles at the Shepparton Motor Museum (Soon to be MOVE), making these amazing machines and the history embodied within them accessible to many more people. Make sure you get to Shepparton to check it out and if you would like to arrange a group tour of the private collection in Melbourne then leave a message for the Yarra BUG Radio peeps with 3CR and we'll pass on your details. Discussion turns to the Victorian Penny Farthing Championships this weekend in Geelong with a full day of activities for the whole family at Geelong West Oval and velodrome. You'll find all the details here. Also coming up this weekend for those living and riding in Maribyrnong is a drop in session towards building the new City of Maribyrnong Bicycling Stategy. Later in the week on Thursday is the last of the fabulous MoreArt Projector Bike rides, its free but reserve your space now!
