Stars, Stripes & Summer Traditions on the South Shore By Boston Connect Real Estate As the Fourth of July nears, it's not just about fireworks and flags—it's about the memories we create and the communities we cherish. On a special edition of Talk Real Estate Roundtable, Sharon McNamara welcomed guest Olivia Snyder, a rising senior studying marketing at the University of Tennessee, to reflect on the spirit of Independence Day and summertime on the South Shore and beyond. From the South to the South Shore Olivia, a Pembroke native and Boston Connect family friend, shared her perspective as a Gen Z student navigating today's world of social media and tradition. With roots firmly planted in New England and new experiences growing in the South, Olivia reflected on the contrast between generations and regions. While her college life is filled with Southern pride and line dancing, her fondest summer memories still revolve around early morning beach trips to Duxbury and fireworks in Plymouth. Sharon and Olivia dove into the impact of social media on younger generations—how curated online lives can distort reality and create unnecessary stress. Yet, despite the digital age, what resonates most are the simple, meaningful moments spent with loved ones. Celebrating Independence in True Massachusetts Fashion Massachusetts isn't just another state on the Fourth of July—it's the birthplace of American independence. Sharon reminded listeners that from the Boston Tea Party to Paul Revere's Midnight Ride, this region played a pivotal role in our nation's founding. The Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular and towns like Edgartown, Hingham, and Plymouth carry on that tradition with pride. Did you know Edgartown's first parade was held in 1844? Or that Halifax continues its tradition with fireworks and family activities behind the elementary school? Events like Quincy's three-day Maritime Festival, complete with reenactments and boat displays, are a testament to the community spirit that defines this season. Making Memories That Matter The true beauty of the summer holiday season isn't just in the festivities—it's in the connections. Whether it's a beachside BBQ, a memory of grabbing coffee at Marylou's before heading to Duxbury Beach, or taking a boat into Boston Harbor to watch fireworks over the Charles, these moments are what turn houses into homes. At Boston Connect Real Estate, we believe in celebrating community as much as closing deals. So this Fourth of July, we encourage you to unplug, gather with family and friends, and make memories that last far beyond the summer. Happy Independence Day from all of us at Boston Connect!

Send us a textGet Shot At Love Book, by Kerry Brett at www.shotatlovebook.com and on Amazon and join the singles movement! When celebrity photographer Kerry Brett found herself at rock bottom after a devastating breakup, she never imagined her journey back would lead her to become a dating expert, award-winning podcaster, and author. But that's exactly what happened – and she's sharing every hilarious, heartbreaking, and enlightening step in her captivating new memoir.Kerry's story begins in the magazine world, where she captured iconic portraits of figures like David Ortiz and Steve Carell over her 28-year career. But behind the camera, she was struggling to rebuild her life as a single mother navigating the then-new world of dating apps. Rather than seeing Tinder as intimidating, Kerry approached it with the same creative eye she brought to photography, treating her profile as a personal brand and discovering that authentic presentation was the key to meaningful connections. What makes Kerry's journey uniquely powerful is how she blended modern dating technology with ancient spiritual practices. Each dating adventure – from "The German Leo" to "The Irish Leprechaun" – is paired with Sanskrit mantras that guided her path, reflecting wisdom gained from spiritual teachers like Namadeva Acharya, Thomas Ashley-Farrand. These Sanskrit mantras became anchors during uncertain times, helping Kerry maintain perspective when relationships didn't work out, teaching her that "rejection is protection."The raw vulnerability in Kerry's storytelling creates an immediate connection with readers. Her willingness to share both triumphs and embarrassing moments – or epic moves like using a photograph with the real Peter Brady on her Tinder profile – makes her journey relatable to anyone who's ever felt lost in the dating world. Through her experiences, she proves that finding love isn't about perfection but authenticity: "You don't need to become perfect to find love – you're just okay the way you are."Whether you're recovering from heartbreak, navigating dating apps for the first time, or simply enjoying a good love story, Kerry's journey from behind the camera to finding her own shot at love will inspire you to believe in new beginnings. Are you ready to transform your approach to dating and relationships? Pick up "Shot at Love" and discover why this celebrity photographer's unfiltered lens on love is changing how we view modern romance.About the Guest: Kerry Brett is a Professional Photographer of America Master Photographer with 28 years of experience running her successful studio in Hingham, MA. In the place of Professor Cornelia Dayton who could not join us today, Professor Robert Allison presents a lecture on the military career of Benjamin Lincoln, who, with General George Washington and General Nathanael Greene were to only General officers to serve from the Siege of Boston to Yorktown. Lincoln came from a distinguished family in Hingham, Massachusetts where the family held various town offices since the 17th century. While Lincoln never anticipated a military career, his quiet and steady capability soon recommended him to Washington for a number of posts. Wounded at Saratoga, Lincoln would also be forced to surrender Charleston, SC to the British, but also accepted (at Washington's urging) the surrender of the British at Yorktown.Tell us what you think! One of the main reasons a youth pastor's relationship with their senior pastor can suffer is from unmet expectations. In this conversation, we talk with Cody Busby (Mike's pastor) in order to encourage and support healthy senior/youth pastor relationships. Discussion Features: Share with us a little about your experience as a youth pastor… what do you miss most about serving in youth ministry and how do you think that's shaped the way you lead as a senior pastor? What are some of the biggest differences between leading as a youth pastor and leading as the senior pastor? I'm not sure what your relationship was like with your senior pastor, but now that you've been a senior pastor for 18 years, what do you wish you could go back and tell youth pastor Cody? Big picture, what are some expectations that senior pastors have of youth pastors? This isn't a list of what they SHOULD expect… but an honest reflection of what you've heard that would be good for youth pastors to know. What are your thoughts about “leading up?” as this way for subordinates to seek to lead their leaders? In what ways is this simply “leading together” and in what ways can this be a red flag that maybe it's time to leave? If you could identify a few areas where you think youth pastors need to focus in order to improve or strengthen their relationship with the senior pastor? A final word on what you'd like to share with youth pastors who may have a less-than-great relationship with their pastor? Without an override, we'd be about six million dollars short. We would have to cut services and lay off 19 municipal employees and 46 positions in our schools. Both the Select Board and the Advisory Committee were unanimous in voting in favor of passing the override. Why?My guests are Select Board Chair Bill Ramsey, School Committee Chair Michelle Ayer and George Danis, Chair of Hingham's Advisory Committee.

I wish I didn't feel so woefully inadequate in finding words to describe where we are. Maybe there are no words. Maybe I have no idea. What I do know is that people are in pain. People need help and we all need each other. In this week's episode I talk with three women trying to help our community. Susan Sarni, Hingham's executive health officer is helping lead an effort to deliver a kind of one-stop shop for health and wellness through town resources. It's a work in progress, and they want to hear from us on what we think could help our community, but they are amplifying services for mental health, physical and spiritual health and addiction. Heather Rodriguez, director of counseling for Hingham Public Schools shares what counselors are seeing with our students and what is currently and will soon be available to help them. Kathleen Bambrick is a social worker with Aspire Health Alliance. We talk about the importance of normalizing the conversation around mental health (whole person health!) and what resources they are offering to help local families immediately.I hope you find value in the conversation and will lend your voice to the process. If you or someone you know is considering suicide, please call the crisis lifeline at 988. You are not alone and people want to help you.
When Kenzie Blackwell heard some public school students were using socks, dish towels and cardboard to serve as pads during their period, she knew the work she had to do. The Hingham woman launched Free . (period), a non-profit that provides free tampons and pads in public schools and to local service providers like Father Bill's and Interfaith Social Services. Kenzie and Ann Linehan, a Brockton Public School nurse and consultant for the state Department of Public Health sit down with Ally to share their story and their mission, which is not yet done.
We had listeners call and ask Chef Jason Santos some questions and Joy from Hingham had an interesting question...
