Ja, my vriend, of jy daarvan hou of nie, dit is ‘n feit van die lewe - ons spandeer baie tyd terwyl ons wag. So, hoe rustig wag jy? Ja, dis nogal 'n ongemaklike vraag. Hoe goed hanteer jy dit wanneer jy moet wag? Die antwoord is alte dikwels ... nie so goed nie. Dink aan die situasie: Jy is volgende in die ry by die supermark se betaalpunt. Jy het hierdie tou gekies omdat die vrou voor jou nie baie items het nie, maar dan ... is een van haar items nie in hulle stelsel nie. Hulle moet eers die prys gaan kontroleer. Ag nee, tog! Intussen maak die volgende betaalpunt oop en iemand wals reguit in en word onmiddellik bedien. Maak dit jou nie sommer de hoenders in nie?  Natuurlik is dit nie regtig die dood van Katryn nie, maar tog... Wat van daardie persoon op hul tweede rondte chemoterapie, wat vir sy resultate wag? Of die oupa wat in die hof by sy eiesinnige kleinseun, wat van sy ouers vervreem is, moet sit en wag?  Dit kan moeilik wees. So hoe wag jy? God self het gesê: “Ek sal jou nooit verlaat nie, jou nooit in die steek laat nie.” Voordat ons vandag afskop, wil ek jou 'n vragie vra: op 'n skaal van 0 tot 10, hoe tevrede is jy met jou lot in die lewe?Gedurende die 1ste eeu n.C. het Nero, die Romeinse keiser, geweldige mag gehad. Hy het in ongelooflike luuksheid geleef en was die rykste man op aarde ... tog was hy nooit tevrede nie.Hy het na bewondering gesmag, oordadig geleef en toenemend paranoïes geword. Eerder as om dankbaar te wees vir al die voorregte wat hy kon geniet, het hy Rome se rykdom verkwis en diegene na aan hom (insluitend sy moeder) tereggestel. Toe die ses-dae-lange Groot Brand van Rome baie skade aangerig het in Rome, het hy die Christene daarvoor blameer en hulle begin vervolg, net om politieke en ekonomiese kritiek af te weer. Hy is uiteindelik tot volksvyand verklaar en het sy eie lewe geneem.Hy het alles gehad en tog het hy uiteindelik niks gehad nie. Dit lyk ondenkbaar, nie waar nie? Ja, dit beïnvloed ons vlak van geluk, dit is deurslaggewend in ons verhoudings en dit bepaal ook in watter mate ons ons potensiaal bereik. Is jy arrogant of nederig of êrens tussenin?Dis moeilik om in ons moderne tyd aan 'n meer dramatiese transformasie van arrogansie na nederigheid, as in die lewe van Nelson Mandela, te dink.Mandela was eens 'n vurige, militante leier wat geglo het dat gewapende weerstand die enigste manier was om apartheid te beëindig. Die sewe-en-twintig jaar in die tronk, waar hy volgens sekere bronne tot bekering gekom het, het hom nederig gemaak en hom geduld, vergifnis en die krag van versoening geleer.Toe hy vrygelaat is, het hy vrede bo wraak gekies en met alle mense saamgewerk om Suid-Afrika te verenig en homself nooit bo die gereg gestel nie. Julle geloof word getoets soos goud met vuur getoets en daardeur gesuiwer word; en onthou: Julle geloof is vir God baie kosbaarder as goud wat vergaan. As die toetse die egtheid van julle geloof uitwys, loop dit uit op lof en heerlikheid en eer op die dag wanneer Jesus Christus aan die wêreld geopenbaar word. (NLV) Kan ek jou vandag vra om terug te dink aan die mees uitdagende tyd wat jy nog ooit in jou lewe ervaar het? Dink aan die grootste beproewing; die moeilikste situasie wat jy nog ooit beleef het. As jy aan daardie tyd terugdink, watter emosies kom by jou op?My moeilikste tyd was meer as 30 jaar gelede toe my eerste vrou my vir een van my beste vriende verlaat het. Dit was net verskriklik. Alhoewel dit nou lank gelede is, en die wond genees is, het die letsels gebly. As ek terugdink aan daardie tyd, is daar steeds 'n stukkie hartseer daar.Ek dink dis maar net natuurlik. Maar daar is tóg ‘n ander faset daaraan. Ek het dit oorleef. Trouens, ek het dit nie net oorleef nie, maar God het my daardeur die mens, wat ek vandag is, gemaak. Dit was te midde van daardie verskriklike ervaring dat ek van aangesig tot aangesig met Jesus kennis gemaak het.So, kan jy ook insien dat die moeilike tye wat jy deurgemaak het, tot jou voordeel kan strek? Hoe het God jou ten goede verander? Wat sien en verstaan jy vandag, wat jy nie sou kon verstaan het, indien jy nie daardie pad geloop het nie? Laat God deur sy Woord met jou praat, terwyl jy daardie vrae bepeins:1 Petrus 1:7 Die doel met die beproewings is om die egtheid van julle geloof duidelik te laat word.
