The Blowing Smoke with Twisted Rico podcast is a refreshing and invigorating addition to the world of music podcasts. With its diverse range of music and the enthusiastic host Steev, this show is perfect for anyone seeking to expand their musical horizons and discover new artists.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is the variety of music that it showcases. Twisted Rico has a knack for finding hidden gems and lesser-known bands from various genres, making each episode feel like a treasure trove of new sounds to explore. The host's passion for music shines through in each episode, creating a contagious excitement that keeps listeners engaged and eager to hear what he will bring next.
Moreover, Steev's extensive knowledge and connections within the music industry are evident throughout the show. He has an impressive roster of guests who share their personal experiences and insights, providing listeners with unique perspectives on the rock 'n' roll scene. This insider access adds depth to the podcast, giving fans an opportunity to get insider stories and behind-the-scenes information they wouldn't find elsewhere.
However, there are a few aspects of The Blowing Smoke with Twisted Rico podcast that can be considered its weakest points. Firstly, while the host's enthusiasm is infectious, it sometimes leads to a lack of objectivity when discussing certain bands or genres. This subjectivity can occasionally overshadow other artists who may deserve more attention but don't align with Steev's personal taste.
Additionally, some listeners might find the audio quality inconsistent from episode to episode. While this may not detract significantly from the overall experience, it can be frustrating when trying to fully immerse oneself in an interview or song selection.
In conclusion, The Blowing Smoke with Twisted Rico podcast is a must-listen for any rock 'n' roll enthusiast looking for fresh tunes or fascinating stories from within the industry. Despite its subjective moments and occasional audio hiccups, this show delivers an exciting and informative experience that will leave you craving more. Buck Johnson is a seasoned singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer whose soulful ‘Cala-Bama' sound fuses his Alabama gospel roots with a West Coast rock edge. Best known as the keyboardist and backing vocalist for Aerosmith, Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band, The Hollywood Vampires, and The Joe Perry Project, which recently revamped and has an incredible lineup featuring Chris Robinson of The Black Crows, Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz of Stone Temple Pilots, Brad Whitford, and Buck. “Aerosmith was already a fine tuned machine when Buck came into the fold but he made them better if that was possible. His vocals complements Steven's perfectly and Buck still being there is a true testament of what he brings to Aerosmith. I call him the “Swiss Army knife”! He plays keyboards and also guitar on some songs but his singing is his gift and it really shows on the Aerosmith, Vampires and Joe Perry live gigs. I think what puts him high above the rest as a well sought after musician is he is one of the finest humans you are going to meet”. -John Bionelli, AerosmithMusicThe Charms "So Pretty"The Dogmatics "I Love Rock N Roll"Produced and Hosted by Steev Riccardo

When you would go to school the next morning after an Aerosmith concert with ringing in your ears you can thank Nite Bob for that. In this episode, we're joined by Peter Cortner—renowned for his iconic role as the frontman of the legendary punk band Dag Nasty. Of course we hit on the "Wig Out At Denkos" and "Field Day" albums. We also talk about Cortner's really cool new band, Applied Knowledge, who release their debut album in May.“Easily the equal of the Replacements at their best -- and as much a forebear of the Goo Goo Dolls' eventual success as a Minneapolis quartet -- Field Day is just that for the group. Peter Cortner's singing in a mere year's time has moved from the edgy, high-pitched rasp of Wig Out to include a ruminative, gently expressing tone, with more vocal control and a sweet edge than one will find in most of the band's peers. As for his lyrics, besides the analysis of personal interaction that defined earlier Dag Nasty material, Cortner addresses everything from being in a band and wanting to write "songs, powerful songs" to reflections on death, loss, and separation”. -All Music MusicApplied Knowledge "Earthlink"Music ClipsApplied Knowledge "Not Too Far"The Charms "So Pretty"The Dogmatics "I Love Rock N Roll"Produced and Hosted by Steev Riccardo
On this episode, we are joined by David Wildman and Jim Foster from the band Tell.“If you're a first-class songwriter, being shut down just might wind up turning you loose. David Wildman has written his share of gems over the years, often in bands that deserved way more attention than they got. His band TELL refines the moody yet pop-centric approach he's had all along. …But the real news here is Wildman's flair for storytelling: The songs here present characters who are a little offbeat, sometimes flawed but always recognizable, all making their way through a desperate era. Immersed in a world that draws inspiration from icons like The Velvet Underground and New York Dolls, as well as British glam rock, Dryden's sound blends these influences with his own contemporary twist. Reflecting on his musical journey, Dryden shares, "Being inspired by larger-than-life figures like David Bowie, Simon Le Bon, Bryan Ferry, and Marc Bolan was both a gift and a challenge. On this week's show, we are joined one of the original American Hardcore Punk legends, Dave Dictor of MDC.Millions of Dead Cops (MDC) is an American hardcore punk band formed in 1981 in Austin, Texas. Known for its politically charged lyrics and aggressive sound, the band's name itself reflects its intense stance on political issues—particularly focusing on anti-authoritarian themes, police brutality, and societal injustice. The band's music is deeply influenced by the punk rock and hardcore scenes of the early 1980s, blending fast, abrasive guitar riffs with defiant vocals. MDC's lyrics tackle a wide range of topics, from police violence to war, environmental destruction, and social inequalities, often with a provocative and unapologetically confrontational tone.MDC originally started as a group called The Stains before changing their name to Millions of Dead Cops. They were an integral part of the early hardcore punk scene in Texas and beyond. Their debut album, Millions of Dead Cops (1982), received critical acclaim and helped to establish the band's reputation in the underground punk community. Over the years, the band's lineup changed several times, but they maintained a dedicated following due to their uncompromising punk ethos.MDC's influence extends beyond music, as the band was involved in activism and political movements, aligning themselves with causes like animal rights, anti-capitalism, and anti-authoritarianism. While the band's popularity peaked in the 1980s and 1990s, MDC continued to perform and release music over the years, maintaining its reputation as a symbol of resistance and a voice for marginalized communities.Despite facing controversies due to the provocative nature of their name and lyrics, MDC remains an important figure in the history of hardcore punk, contributing to the genre's political activism and direct engagement with social issues.MusicMDC "Born To DieAdditional MusicThe Charms "So Pretty"The Dogmatics "I Love Rock N Roll"Produced and Hosted by Steev Riccardo
