Chris has also recently become a farmer. He explains the process of finding and buying the land for "First Light Farms" in his home of Revelstoke. This is the first (of many – I am sure) of a new series I am calling THE QUARANTINE SESSIONS – tales from our cribs. And I'm delighted that my first guest in the series is Chris Rubens of Revelstoke, British Columbia (where we are chatting from remotely). Chris is a very solid, woke individual that gives a lot to his sport, the community and the world. He grew up in Canmore, BC with another favourite Eric Hjorleifson (#ep23). If there was one thing I took away from this podcast is that what we do as an individual has an impact on the world (timely as well). He's a POW (protect our winters) ambassador and we touch on a lot of these things blended throughout a few ski chats and our little dip into the old days. Before you listen maybe you should watch ‘Guilt Trip' by Salomon TV – I'm going to watch it now. I wish I had of watched it prior to the interview… but the interview got me fired up to watch it.

Low Pressure Podcast: The Podcast for Skiers

Skier, Guide, and Environmentalist Greg Hill,  is leading the way by proving what we can do to become sustainable adventurers.  It's a a theme that is building momentum within our community and Greg, with help from his skiing and travel partner Chris Rubens, is leading the charge.   Travelling to go skiing and adventuring in the mountains has a big carbon footprint and Greg is doing his best to find sustainable alternatives.  He's sold his big diesel truck, gave away his snowmobile, significantly cut down on his international flights and has bought an electric vehicle to get him to where he needs to be.

This week we're talking to Greg Hill and Chris Rubens. Greg is probably best known for his feats in ski touring, including his accomplishment in 2010 of skiing 2 million vertical feet in a year. And Chris Rubens is probably best known for being dumb enough to try to keep up with Greg.We sat down with Greg and Chris in Denver to talk about how the two became the unofficial power couple of Revelstoke, and to learn more about the logistics of their latest Electric Adventure which took them from Revy to Colorado in an electric car for a screening of their new film, The Curve of Time.Greg and Chris talk about what inspired the film, how it embodies both their love of the outdoors and their continued efforts to consider the impact that each of us is having on the environment — and what we might do about that. So I really hope their new film and our conversation here stimulate some new thoughts that get each of us to take some new actions.TOPICS & TIMES:When did you guys meet? I really enjoyed talking to today’s guest Chris Ruben - a professional skier whom you’ll find in many ski movies if you just search for him on Youtube.  Today you’ll get a cool perspective into what it’s like to be in the ski movies, what it takes to get there, and how to train for ski season. Chris is also out to deliver a message - and his projects reflect that. Watch for his upcoming film, produced by Salomon with his partner in adventure (and last week's guest) Greg Hill - The Curve of Time - and how they both strive to be environmentally responsible athletes.  Because there is often a life metaphor in these discussion, it was interesting to hear Chris’ viewpoint on a good partnership/team mate. Listen to how they each talk about the other not only with respect but recognizing where their partner excels vs where they do. This is important in the mountains as well as in the office.  So listen on and let’s gear up.  Find more at www.thegearshow.com  Resources:  Greg Hill’s Youtube channel and the Facebook page.  Chris Rubens’ Facebook page How Chris Rubens and Greg Hill train for ski season Chris Rubens on Instagram
