Danny Leroux joins us for a talk about the top two teams in the Western Conference: The Denver Nuggets and the Sacramento Kings. They are the two best offenses in the league, but each have defensive warts (the Kings much moreso than the Nuggets). Can these two teams win a title with their respective defenses? Then, Danny and I shift into future mode. The NBA changes in tangible ways every year. The NBA in 2028 will look different than the NBA in 2023. And figuring that out ahead of time is one of the true keys to team-building. So Danny and I chat about it and try to determine what the future of NBA team building could hold. Danny Leroux joins the show today to break down the 2023 NBA Trade Deadline by diving into the targets that could be available at the deadline. The NBA's rookie extension window has come and gone. So for that, we've got a three-part episode. First, I chatted with Danny Leroux about what we can take away from this year's window, a strange one at the nexus of a draft that hasn't established a normal amount of stars yet and a television deal that everyone expects but has yet to be signed. Should we think much of the players not extended like Cam Johnson, Grant Williams and P.J. Washington? What should we take away from guys like De'Andre Hunter and Keldon Johnson getting extended? All that and more. Then, I chatted with Kelly Iko about the wild Kevin Porter extension, a deal unlike any extension we've seen in history for a rookie scale player. It has 16M guaranteed on a 4 year, 82.5M deal. We talk about it. Then, I chat with Brad Rowland about the De'Andre Hunter extension. Why has Hunter, outside of the injuries, not quite reached his full potential yet? And is 4/90M an overpay? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Danny Leroux joins the show to break down the NBA Trade Market in the preseason. We dive deep into some of the players that could move throughout the season, but also talk about how rare it is that we enter the season with seemingly few stars available. But we also talk about Jae Crowder, Mike Conley, Jordan Clarkson, Jakob Poeltl, Myles Turner, Deandre Ayton a bit, D'Angelo Russell, Harrison Barnes, and plenty others that feature on the mid-tier starter/high-end starter market. But first, we dive into a Victor Wembanyama breakdown, as Danny was in France and got to see the potential 2023 No. 1 overall pick in person this week. Learn more about your ad choices. The NBA season is now officially in the books, which means it's officially time for Offseason Rumor-a-palooza, with the Lakers at the center of it all, as always! The Lakers have several players heading into free agency (most notably, Dennis Schröder, Alex Caruso and Talen Horton-Tucker), another who has the option to follow suit (Montrezl Harrell), and two players prominently in the rumor mill (Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Kyle Kuzma). They also have the 22nd pick in the draft to potentially trade. Does that mean the Lakers are set for a whirlwind of activity between now and August 2, when free agency kicks off? Not necessarily. The Lakers aren't just capped out. They also have luxury tax issues that could limit the moves that are even legal, much less optimal. As much as they might want to make changes, it won't be easy by any stretch. To better understand the Lakers' options, the Kamenetzkys talk with NBA cap expert Danny Leroux (The Athletic, Dunc'd On Podcast, RealGM Radio). How viable is a sign-and-trade involving Schröder? What are the market values for Caruso and THT? Are KCP and Kuzma reasonably valuable trade chips? Is it more likely for the team to make moves or run back a large chunk of the roster? These and many other questions get chopped up.Hosts: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: Danny Leroux breaks down the Lakers' cap situation, as well as the complications that make sign-and-trade deals a potentially difficult option to shake up the roster.SEGMENT 2: Are KCP and Kuzma valuable trade assets to help swing a larger deal? After some publicly stalled negotiations between Schröder and the Lakers, followed up an uneven playoffs, what's the point guard's market value? Can he leverage the Lakers' limited ability to replace him into a sizable payday?SEGMENT 3: How much competition will the Lakers face to retain Caruso and THT? Traditionally, the Lakers have been a strong option for veterans willing to take minimum deals in pursuit of a ring. Might that advantage be lessened this offseason?Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Kevin Durant has spurned the Boston Celtics, dumped the Oklahoma City Thunder and has decided to join the powerhouse Golden State Warriors. It still stings and it's utterly flabbergasting. How could someone be so hell-bent on taking the easy way out to win a championship and join a bitter rival to meet an end goal? Danny Leroux of realGMRadio will stop by to attempt to answer those questions. At the very least, it should be a lot of fun. But will it be as fun unless the Warriors come out like gangbusters next year and 2007-Patriots the league? Or will they cruise to make sure they win the NBA championship? That's not all there. Abby Chin of CSNNE will stop by to talk about...yes, the Boston Celtics. They who just signed Al Horford and introduced him this past Friday afternoon. Is the off-season still good enough for the Celts and should they be more aggressive or lay low for the next few years knowing the Dubs will likely dominate the NBA? It's all on this week's edition of Celtics Beat. Brought to you by Blue Apron, audiblepodcast.com/celtics, Casper, and American Farmer's Network.
