From drivers that went on to become F1 race winners to Indianapolis 500 conquerors and sportscar heroes, we've attempted to rank the best nearly-men of F3000 during the latest episode of the Autosport podcast, which features special guest David Sears. Boss of the Super Nova Racing team that delivered titles with Vincenzo Sospiri, Ricardo Zonta, Juan Pablo Montoya and Sebastien Bourdais between 1995 and 2002, Sears joins chief editor Kevin Turner and Plus editor James Newbold to dissect our resident F3000 enthusiast's list. How did Leclerc make a one-stop strategy succeed? Was this his best win in F1? What can we expect from Ferrari for the rest of 2024? And how big a missed opportunity was Monza for polesitter Lando Norris and McLaren? Could they have tried a one-stop race as well? This week we speak to the man with arguably the hardest job in F1: Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur. Fred is bringing Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari next year. We get into that with him, what (or who) else Ferrari still needs to win a world championship and how Fred uses humour to get his way. He talks about managing the fragile confidence of Ferrari team members and how he is pushing them to take more risks. Former Ferrari F1 engineer Rob Smedley of “Fernando is faster than you” fame helps us read between the lines along with Motorport.com Italy's F1 Editor Roberto Chinchero. Fred Vasseur, 56, has been in motorsport for 35 years. He had huge success in F3 and GP2 (the forerunner of F2) with ART – making champions of drivers like Hamilton, Nico Rosberg and Nico Hulkenberg. He came into F1 in 2016 as boss of Renault F1 team, (now known as Alpine) he joined Sauber in 2017 and gave Charles Leclerc his F1 break with the team. He transferred to Ferrari for the start of the 2023 season and is now a multiple F1 Grand Prix winner.

On today's show, Super Bowl LVIII is in the books, along with another NFL season, and we all suddenly have a lot more free time on Sundays. The Big Game started slow but ended with a performance by Patrick Mahomes worthy of the Vegas stage they were on. Mahomes was every bit the smart gambler; he folded a few hands, stuck with his system and in the end, hit the jackpot late in overtime, but as many people seem to want to blame the Niners for the loss as give the Chiefs credit for the win. We'll play the blame game with the Niners like fans are doing all over the Bay Area, but what I take away from this one is that they just ran up against history and legacy in Mahomes. Plus, our Warriors are back to .500 and hope remains alive at the Chase Center, but with 30 games left to play, is the upside enough to promise the deep postseason run we all want to see? Steph is on a heater, Draymond is on his best behavior, the rookie Pods is precocious, Kuminga has made the leap, GP2 is back and basketball is fun again, and it's past time to deep dive into some Bay Area hoops as we head into the All-Star break. So sit back, the Chiefs are champs again, All-Star Weekend is here and we're breaking down how it's all unfolding, next on the Roundup Podcast so let's get rolling . . .

In a groundbreaking discovery earlier this year, a global consortium found a new variant in the GBA gene that is associated with a higher risk of Parkinson's disease (PD) for people of African ancestry. The finding marks the first African ancestry-specific genetic risk factor for Parkinson's disease. In this podcast, researchers share the human stories behind the discovery, which underscores the importance of international collaboration and the participation of underrepresented communities in research. Themes covered in this discussion: (02:05) – Breaking down the genetic discovery and why it's important for PD research (05:27) – More on the genetic samples that resulted in this discovery (06:53) –Why the GBA1 gene is of interest and its connection to PD (11:13) – How the Global Parkinson's Genetics Program (GP2) maintains privacy and confidentiality of data from study participants (13:15) – How people should think about genetics as a risk factor for PD (14:55) – Capacity building and building community trust (19:57) –Why this discovery takes us closer to finding better treatments and a cure for PD (21:51) – Story behind accidental discovery of GBA1 variant (22:50) – Background on GP2 and excitement on the GBA1 variant discovery (33:17) – Ethnicity and health risk factors and other determinants of health (35:03) – Importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in science and to The Michael J. Fox Foundation's mission (36:52) – Research in PD historically focused on people of Northern European ancestry (38:09) –Why people from underrepresented groups need to lead these studies (39:30) – Importance of including underrepresented populations across the research pipeline (40:18) –Why research participation is important and how you can get involved Like our podcasts?
