The October Book of the Month is THE CHAMBER, written by Will Dean. Six experienced saturation divers are locked inside a hyperbaric chamber. Calm and professional, they know that rapid decompression would be fatal and so they work in shifts, breathing helium, and surviving in hot, close quarters. Then one of them is found dead in his bunk. Will Dean grew up in the East Midlands of the United Kingdom. After studying law at the London School of Economics and working in London, he settled in rural Sweden where he built a wooden house in a vast forest, and it's from this base that he compulsively reads and writes. His debut novel, DARK PINES, was selected for Zoe Ball's book club on ITV, shortlisted for the National Book Award (UK), The Guardian's Not the Booker prize, and was named a Telegraph book of the year. He is also the author of THE LAST ONE, FIRST BORN, THE LAST THING TO BURN, which was shortlisted for the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year, and THE CHAMBER. Will Dean grew up in the East Midlands of the United Kingdom and lived in nine villages before the age of eighteen. After studying law at the London School of Economics and working in London, he settled in rural Sweden where he built a wooden house in a boggy clearing at the center of a vast elk forest, and it's from this base that he compulsively reads and writes. His debut novel, Dark Pines, was selected for Zoe Ball's book club on ITV, shortlisted for the National Book Awards (UK), The Guardian's Not the Booker prize, and was named a Telegraph book of the year. From the acclaimed author of The Last Thing to Burn, a psychological thriller about the dark secrets that emerge when a woman's twin sister is murdered, with his signature “intense, gripping, taut, terrifying, moving, and brilliant” (Lisa Jewell, #1 New York Times bestselling author) prose. Sisters. Soulmates. Strangers. Molly Raven lives a quiet, structured life in London, finding comfort in security and routine. Her identical twin Katie, living in New York, is the exact opposite: outgoing, spontaneous, and adventurous. But when Molly hears that Katie has died, possibly murdered, she is thrown into unfamiliar territory. As terrifying as it is, she knows she must travel across the ocean and find out what happened. But as she tracks her twin's final movements, cracks begin to emerge, and she slowly realizes her sister was not who she thought she was and there's a dangerous web of deceit surrounding the two of them.

Will Dean is our guest author for this mini episode of the Love Your Library podcast, talking about his brand new book The Last Thing to Burn. You may already know Will from his brilliant series about Swedish journalist Tuva, which began with the much acclaimed novel Dark Pines and was followed by Red Snow and Black River. Will is a romantic ideal of an author, living with his family in a cabin in the middle of a Swedish elk forest, as isolated as one of the characters... The post Will Dean Interview | Mini Episode appeared first on Love your library.
Will Dean is an author of ‘Dark Pines’ and ‘Red Snow’. He moved to Sweden with his wife and lived in his self-built cabin. His bestselling debut thriller ‘Dark Pines’ was chosen for ITV’s Zoe Ball Book Club and shortlisted for the Hearst Big Book Award Crime novel of the Year, The Guardian’s Not The Booker Prize, and the National Book Awards. In this summer 2019 HKTDC Hong Kong Book Fair, Mr Dean will come and talk about his immersive fiction and how a novel is more powerful than movies.
Is Scandi Noir still Scandi Noir if a British author is writing it? Will Dean has gone a long way to immerse himself in Nordic Noir culture, even building a house in the middle of a Swedish forest. It's the setting for his edgy thrillers Dark Pines and Red Show, featuring the deaf journalist and investigator Tuva Moodyson. Will reads from his latest book, Red Snow, and tells us about life in the forest, how he writes and his "creeps book". There's also a competition to win one of Will's books - but you'll have to listen to find out. Some commentators have suggested that Scandi Noir is now in decline. Are Will Dean and the other British invaders bringing new life to the genre? We'd Like A Word is a podcast and radio show from Paul Waters and Stevyn Colgan. We talk with writers, readers, celebrities, talkers, poets about books, songs, lyrics, speeches, scripts, fiction and non-fiction. We go out once a fortnight on Wednesday evening on radio and on Thursday morning on podcast. Our website is www.wedlikeaword.com - which is where you'll find information about Paul and Steve and our guests - and details of the radio stations that carry We'd Like A Word. We're also on Twitter @wedlikeaword and Facebook @wedlikeaword and our email is wedlikeaword@gmail.com - and yes, we are slightly embarrassed by the missing apostrophes. We like to hear from you - your thoughts, ideas, guest or book suggestions. Perhaps you'd like to come on We'd Like A Word in person, to chat, review, meet writers or read out passages from books.
Night listeners of 98.9FM KFMG -October is finally here! If you have been listening to the show for a while, you know that I drop a lot of samples from movies at the beginning of episodes. Most of them come from horror films like Return of the Living Dead, Trick Or Treat (the one with Gene Simmons), and whatever else one might be sitting in my office when I am working on the show. Horrors movies always seemed to go hand in hand with punk rock and metal for me.Anyways tonight I dug out a tape from this super obscure artist named Sky Carrasco. I purchased her cassette, Dark Pines, several years ago from Record Collector in Iowa City. Her music is made up of violin, ukulele, and drums. I highly recommend checking it out. On the heavy side of things, I got some CR Dicks, X-Ray Mary, and an old-school punk jack from Mister Clean. I want to also point out the last track on tonight's playlist was the closest thing I have to hair metal. Geardown from Humboldt, IA plays a medley of hair metal tracks into one epic ballad.LISTEN NOWFor full show notes and playlists, please visit www.kristianday.com or www.kfmg.org.-Kristian#trustkristiandayPS. If you are into horror movies, pick up the October issue of Cityview Magazine for my cover story on Dick Klemensen who has been publishing his magazine Little Shoppe of Horrors in the basement of his Des Moines home for 45 years.

Will has been one of my favourite Twitter friends for a few years now, and we've recently become real life friends. I wanted to talk to him about writing, getting published, the stuff he likes to read, and his wild life in the swamp in Sweden. Will tweets at @willrdean, and his novel, Dark Pines, will be published in January 2018.
