The public outrage was inevitable. The New York Times Magazine published a list of the 30 greatest living American songwriters. Two hundred and fifty music insiders submitted ballots. Six Times music critics and writers sorted through it all to get to 30. For Wesley Morris, it was both daunting and thrilling. Luminaries like Bonnie Raitt, George Clinton, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Mariah Carey submitted ballots. How to honor those submissions while narrowing down and exercising a critic's judgment? Nearly 6,000 comments later, one thing is clear: Everybody's a critic. Many are asking the nagging question, “How can you leave out so-and-so?!” Our critics included! So, Wesley invites a few of the project's participants, Jon Caramanica and Joe Coscarelli, the hosts of “Popcast,” and Sasha Weiss, a deputy editor of The Times Magazine, to rehash it all out. With the Wicked Weaver defeated, the trio of Antistrophe, Caoimhe, and Nicky return to their hunt for the crest of the western hall, and their search will lead them into places unlike any they've ever seen. Meanwhile, in the High Masque, tensions grow as the newest members of House Deadwind continue to make new connections among rival clans of Alteros. Will they find the masks they need to open the door before suspicions solidify into peril? This week on Perpetua: The Castle Eschatonica 06 Perpetua Guide [Community Addendum Part 04] I'm Alukard83, and I thought it would be nice to get together a section listing all of the Villains we've encountered at this point. Remember: This isn't ever enemy or even every badguy, it's every Villain. That's a specific thing in Perpetua: It's someone who has their own pool of special points they can use (Ultima points) and it's someone who gives the party Fabula points when they show up. So far, this is them, in order of appearance. Draconic Elf Woman (Name Unknown) Unlike most Villains (who seem to be campaign-specific), this lady can pop up in both the eastern and western scenarios really early on, though players might not realize it at first.  The Little Snail crew can bump into her at the 'top' of the Dragon Tower, where you can get a close up on her scales and talons. And then team ABC can see a reflection of her in Burzin, where her Elven qualities are really played up.   It's the same basic character model, but it seems like maybe the textures were different, or she had some sort of special effect in the reflection? I wonder why different parts of her were emphasized in those different places? Genuine Sincere You don't actually see him second, but you do see his handiwork. He tries to assassinate Vinnor Jekk, Veile's mentor and member of the Luminaries. Genuine is an old crimeworld friend of Nicky, and is now part of the Night's Own, a group loyal to Caliginia.  Eventually, the party has to fight him if they want to escape from Calstega Bay. He escapes that fight when it breaks bad for him, but his location after that remains unknown. Caliginia, Fated Darkness Speaking of the Night's Own… This Goddess of Darkness first shows up at the end of the first big story arc in the Little Snail campaign and kidnaps Vinnor Jekk. It's not exactly clear what her motives are (or what her connection to Veile is), but given her actions it's pretty clear she's trying to stop Veile from reaching the White Lectern ritually halting the cycle. Aisling Revanj She's a hexcloak with a specialization in Fire. She showed up at the very end of the Burzin boss fight and prevents Lady Teribald from revealing the identity of the mysterious Elf that visited the town. Are the two of them connected? Where do the rest of the Hexcloaks fit in here? Atlas We don't know much about this ancient architect. Elena found evidence of him tied to Rilspur and the rest of the Passikan megadungeons. We learn that the Passikans themselves never existed in Perpetua, but somehow their ruins do. And that was Atlas' doing. Weird. He says they're going "to return," but what does that even mean? Marshal Opal You first meet the Marshal at the cooking competition in Calstega Bay, but eventually come to learn that this military commander of the Valte is part of Nights Own later on in the main story. What we know about her is that where Commodore Onyx is more focused on the Valte sky armada, Opal leads the ground troops (and specifically the ones searching for clues and relics related to the Perpetuan cycle). Interesting!  And hey, what the hell is up with the Night's Own anyway (or as I like to call it "The Fell Organization, since that's what Elena calls it in dialog, and I think she rocks).  Thereus Aegir Leader of the Hexcloaks, clearly the biggest A-Hole in the whole game so far. You first directly encounter him in Cenn, City of Iron Chains. Personally, I can't stand people like this, who act all high and mighty and who try to manipulate and provoke you into either fighting them or fighting for them. I cannot wait to kick this guy's butt, big time. Elom The big angry dragon mole laying siege to Cenn.  So like, we all see it right? This is just "Mole" backwards. Is that how all the dragons work? D.G. Flay Aegier is the biggest a-hole, but this weird pied piper guy might be the evilest villain so far. At least, that's how he feels. He's slimy and creepy and all those bugs he's associated with? NO thanks. Reminds me of the villain from the movie with the weird aliens. This special episode of TV Gold looks at the Australian comedy Deadloch.Podcast hosts Andrew Mercado and James Manning review the second season of the hit Prime Video series and also included in the episode after our review is an interview with the stars Kate Box and Madeleine. About Deadloch Season 2 (Prime, 6 episodes) Detectives Dulcie Collins (Kate Box) and Eddie Redcliffe (Madeleine Sami) are in Darwin to investigate the death of Eddie’s former policing partner Bushy. However, their plans are soon diverted when a body part is discovered in a remote town called Barra Creek. With the Northern Territory police force focused on a large-scale search for two missing backpackers, Dulcie and a very reluctant Eddie are tasked with identifying the John Doe. Sticky, sweaty and juggling comprehensive thrush infections, the detectives find themselves embroiled in a world of crocodile-fuelled tourism, overstretched Indigenous rangers, cagey locals, and seven-metre prehistoric predators – all of whom call Barra Creek’s stretch of land, and water, their home. As the humidity builds, and Eddie and Dulcie dig deeper, more questions arise for our duo – not only about the case, but the many secrets that lie beneath the surface of this small town. Who’s in Deadloch Season2: Returning to Deadloch are Kate Box, Madeleine Sami, Nina Oyama and Alicia Gardiner. Joining the cast for Season Two are Luke Hemsworth (The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, Thor: Love & Thunder), Steve Bisley (The Great Gatsby, Mystery Road: Origin, Mad Max), Shari Sebbens (The Sapphires, Top End Bub and The Office), acclaimed writer/director Jean Tong in their acting debut, Genevieve Morris (Bloom, No Activity), Byron Coll (Time Bandits, The Luminaries), Nikki Britton (How to Stay Married), Anthony J Sharpe (Joe v Carole, Human Error), Blake Pavey (Urvi Went to an All Girls School), Damien Garvey (The Survivors, The Artful Dodger), Ngali Shaw (The Twelve, Ladies in Black), Bev Killick (Savage River, Jones Family Christmas), Ling Cooper-Tang (Troppo, Apples Never Fall, Nautilus), Ursula Yovich (Top End Bub, Mystery Road), Syd Brisbane (High Country, Stateless), Ines English (Last Days of the Space Age, Ghosts Australia), Lennox Monaghan (Windcatcher), Reiden Corpus and Storm Murgha.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Part of "Luminaries of Science" series The talk describes how research using the fruit fly Drosophila revealed the make-up of the circadian clock. The first clock gene to be detected in any organism, named “period”, was physically isolated by Young in 1984 and screens in his laboratory subsequently identified five additional genes that are each essential for production of circadian rhythms. Interactions among these genes, and their proteins, contribute to a network of molecular oscillations within single cells throughout the body and allow circadian rhythms to align with environmental day/night cycles. Most of the clock genes discovered by Young and his colleagues in Drosophila are also central to the circadian pathways of humans where they promote rhythmic expression of roughly half our genes. Though the office of the Shining Star stands on the second of Spillaway Peaks' three tiers, on a clear night, its rooftop beacon can be seen from miles away. This, Thelonious, the newspaper's editor-in-chief says, is a recruitment strategy. Those who see the light and travel through the wilderness towards it tend to be inquisitive and adventurous enough to make good freelance reporters. And though they followed the Shining Star's reputation before its shining light, couldn't the same be said of the crew of the Little Snail? This week on Perpetua: A Picture of the Hills 03 Perpetua Guide [In Progress v.058] Side Quests[SDQS] Spillaway Peaks [SPSQ] Escort the Waylon the Photographer - 300 Asta Description: It's time for Old Waylon to take the yearly photo of the town. Guard him on his journey up the mountains to the best angle. Definitely take this quest before leaving town. You're gonna be going up that way to do other side quests anyway, and while Waylon isn't worth a damn in a fight, he also doesn't actually cause you too much trouble as long as you keep up with him! Terrapin Interest Story - 25 to 425 Asta Description: The Shining Star is paying for feature stories about the people of Spillaway Peaks. Brainstorm an idea, interview your subjects, write your article, and supplement it with art! This one is a pain in the butt and it seems really random how much you make from it. Basically, you pick from easy to difficult in each phase of the quest (topic, interview, etc.) and depending on how you do, you get more money. Each of the topics also requires you to go to different places, so like if you do a story on the school play, you have to go to the Clutch area to interview parents and children, where as if you do a story on the port's guards, you need to go down to the water to talk to them. I guess if you really need the Asta, go for it. Investigate the Livestock Deaths - 400 Asta  Description: Beula's Giant Oxen have been getting sick, and some have even been dying! This is a problem, since it's almost time to dredge up new Rice Paddies. Though this looks like a side quest, it's basically mandatory. Unless you were inducted into the Luminaries by Commodore Onyx before leaving Calstega Bay, when you meet with Thelonious, he'll basically put you on a path to do this quest. As such, go read the main Calstega Bay quest section of the FAQ to learn more about this one.  Kill 17 Frostoads - 100 Asta Description: N/A I honestly don't understand why this one is even on this side quest board. Isn't it supposed to be a newspaper? Why would they pay you to kill random toads? There's not even a description on it! Paper Delivery - 20 Asta Description: Deliver the Shining Star to all 15 of its readers. Okay, so, you have to go from the Shining Star to 15 different NPCs spread all across the town. And with a 20 Asta reward, it sounds like a really boring fetch quest that just wastes your time right? Well. I guess I won't say it isn't a time waster. But the important thing is that you can do this once per every Rest action. And because you can stay for free in Jonathan's family's house… that's right. It seems like you can just grind money here indefinitely. I say "seems" because I haven't tested it yet, and there is a chance that just resting repeatedly and not advancing the main plot could have consequences, like it did in Shine-Divine War Armidirge. So be careful, but let me know what happens if you do try to get infinite money here! Hosted by Austin Walker (austinwalker.bsky.social) Featuring Ali Acampora (ali-online.bsky.social), Art Martinez-Tebbel (amtebbel.bsky.social), Jack de Quidt (notquitereal.bsky.social), and Andrew Lee Swan (swandre3000.bsky.social) Produced by Ali Acampora Music by Jack de Quidt (available on bandcamp) Cover Art by Ben McEntee (https://linktr.ee/benmce.art) With thanks to Amelia Renee, Arthur B., Aster Maragos, Bill Kaszubski, Cassie Jones, Clark, DB, Daniel Laloggia, Diana Crowley, Edwin Adelsberger, Emrys, Greg Cobb, Ian O'Dea, Ian Urbina, Irina A., Jack Shirai, Jake Strang, Katie Diekhaus, Ken George, Konisforce, Kristina Harris Esq, L Tantivy, Lawson Coleman, Mark Conner, Mike & Ruby, Muna A, Nat Knight, Olive Perry, Quinn Pollock, Robert Lasica, Shawn Drape, Shawn Hall, Summer Rose, TeganEden, Thomas Whitney, Voi, chocoube, deepFlaw, fen, & weakmint This episode was made with support from listeners like you! The crew of the Little Snail has come to Spillaway Peaks in search of an ally: Thelonious, the editor-in-chief of the Shining Star newspaper and a member of the mysterious group called the Luminaries. But before they can go, meet Theo, and earn his trust, they first have to do a little shopping… This week on Perpetua: A Picture of the HIlls 02 Perpetua Guide [In Progress v.058] Town Maps [TNMP] Spillaway Peaks [SPMP] The Shell Barrow You know that big dome you can see at Spillaway Peaks from the world map? Yeah, this is it. This is where they do their "Weekly Rehearsal," which is like Church Sunday for them. Depending on how things go, you can visit this place at the end of the arc and get a buff.  The Clutch This is where Terrapine kids grow up and go to school. You can get a pretty good Jonathan scene if you go here, but that's about it for now. The Docks and Administrative District There's not much here, except a way to get back on the Ferry and head back to Calstega Bay Jonathan's Family Home This is the only of the Clan Homes you can actually enter, but it's pretty big! It's four or five levels high (depending on how you count) and there are a ton of rooms to explore, random NPCs to talk to, and some loot too! If you do a side quest for Jonathan's dad, he can build you some gear in his workshop! The Shining Star The town newspaper. If you're ready to advance the main plot, head up to the second floor of the Shining Star. You'll automatically run into Theolonius (and Jonathan's sister is working there as an intern or something, too). But if you aren't ready yet, you can stay downstairs and use the quest board to grind out some XP and asta! Shopping District The highest level of the Spillaway City map (not counting the Spillaway Outskirts, but there you have to load out to the world map before getting there, so I don't count it!) There are three main shops here. A general store, which basically just lets you recover IP and get basic items, and then Abelene's Armory and Stokely's Specialties. Abelene's Armory Armor: Reinforced Mud Suit 300 asta | 11 Phys Def / INS size +1 Mdef | -5 Init | Earth Resistant  Armor: Meditation Robe 1000 asta | Def: DEX die +1 / MDEF: INS die +2 |-2 Init Whenever you recover Mind Points, you recover 5 extra Mind Points. Armor: Choir Robe 1000 asta |  Def: DEX size +1 / Mdef: INS size +2 |-2 Init Counts as 1 bonus SL of "Sound Barrier": After you sing a verse with medium or high volume, all physical damage you suffer until the start of your next turn is reduced by【SL】(applied before Affinities). Shield: Eyecatching Cape 800 z | +2 Def /+0 Mdef As long as you don't have a martial armor or another shield equipped, you may apply the effects of the Dodge Skill (see Core Rulebook, page 203).  Shield: Seasoned Potlid 1500 asta | Martial |+2 Def /+2 MDef  When you deal damage with a delicacy (see page 151), you deal 5 extra damage. Shield: Plated Tambourine 1700 asta | +2 Def / +0 Mdef If you have the Resonance Skill , consider your Skill Level in it increased by 2 (up to a maximum of SL 5). Weapon: Giant Fork 1000 asta | DEX + MIG | HR + 16 | Martial | Physical Damage | Spear | Two-handed | Melee |  When you use this weapon with the Knife and Fork Skill, you may add the High Roll to the attack's damage  (you don't have to treat it as being equal to 0). Weapon: Electrified Flyswatter 1300 asta | MIG + DEX | HR+10 | Bolt Damage | One-handed | Melee You may attack Flying creatures, but you take -3 to the roll. Stokely's Specialties Accessory: Ring of the Occultist - 600 asta Spells you cast with a target of "Up to three creatures" instead have a target  of "Up to four creatures" (you must still spend additional Mind Points for the fourth target). Accessory: Spare Magicannon Chamber - 800 When you summon a Magicannon, you also receive an extra Elemental Chamber, matching the previous elemental type you stored.  Accessory: Ring of Denial 600 asta When you cast the Dispel spell (Core Rulebook, page 192), its MP cost becomes "10 × T" and its target becomes "Up to three creatures". Accessory: Lightcatcher Cage - 800 asta You are Resistant to bolt and light damage. If you enter Crisis, the effect of this accessory ceases until your next rest. Accessory: Ancient Pocketwatch - 600 Asta When using the Entropist skill Stolen Time, you may use any of its options one additional time per skill use (paying requisite MP cost as normal). Before he departed from Calstega Bay, the man named Onyx, Commodore of the Valte Empire and member of the mysterious group known as the Luminaries, gave the crew of the Little Snail  some words of advice: Take a boat east, to Spillaway Peaks, and find an ally there under the Shining Star. Thus do Veile, Elena, Nicky, and Jonathan head towards the shoreline, towards new adventures—and for one of them, old haunts. You may not know Spillaway Peaks. Indeed, places like that are too easily overlooked. Many would tell you a history of Tidaline, Perpetua's Western Continent, focused only on its greatest kingdom, its most powerful church, and the invading armada that scourges its shores. And while Grand Sonnerie, the Holy Protectorate, and the Valte Empire have tried as hard as they can to control the chronicling of time, take it from this old historian: The smallest gust can usher in a hurricane. So learn these names:  Belowave. Geseis. Nezt. Invernal. Salann. Burgton. Stitchscore. Spillaway Peaks. Cities hidden under the waves or behind the hills. Places which turned away warships with simple ribbons, or confounded pillagers with puzzles. One village of games, one village of spies, one village where soldiers refused to be soldiers anymore.  Call them parochial or call them provincial if you must, but understand this. Perpetua is not the territory of territory alone. It is not a battlefield made by battalions. It is a world where heroes move history, and where heroes have homes. Some such heroes, if they are lucky, may even get to return to them one day. This week on Perpetua: This week on Pepetua: Across the Bay Pt. 1   Perpetua Guide [In Progress v.05] NPCs & Monsters [PNMS] Hydrazoa [NMHDZ] Typical Traits: floating, glowing, silent, transparent Stats: DEX 8, INS 8, MIG 10, WLP 6 Attacks: Acid Touch, Stinging Tentacles Special Abilities: Flying In-Game Description: Every slithering tentacle of these bizarre, floating jellyfish monsters is filled with a powerful neurotoxin. As far as I can tell, the only way to encounter these guys is by generating an ambush on the shoreline or in the sea. And something is really FISHY about these jellyfish, too. They have original art, but it's almost like they're ripped directly from a different game in terms of their moves and stats and even their description! Maybe they're a holdover from the original Fabula Ultima game engine? Starter Tip: Even though they do bolt damage with those tentacles, they're also weak to bolt! They might sting you, but sting 'em right back. Living Seaweed [NMLSW] Typical Traits: aggressive, cursed, quick, tangly Stats: DEX 10, INS 8, MIG 8, WLP 6 Attacks: Corrupting Grasp, Dark Sting Special Abilities: Plant In-Game Description: A tangle of ravenous kelp. I don't really get this thing. It's like some seaweed that wants to choke you? Why. It doesn't have teeth. It doesn't have a mouth. It doesn't have a stomach. Seaweeds don't need to kill to survive. So why is this one trying to munch on the party!Starter Tip: Don't even bother to give them dazed, enraged, or shaken. They're immune!

Luminaries only travel in direct motion in the sky. However, the other three planets are all retrograde. The cosmos energies seek to refocus on deep emotional concerns, and find some kind of new footing in the ever-turning changes.Jupiter at 25° Cancer holds still as it slowed to retrograde on the 11th and stays at that degree for the New Moon. Jupiter and Saturn never get exactly trine to the minute during their emotional, intuitive visit in their respective water signs. But ‘close enough for jazz' as the saying goes! Within a few minutes, flowing harmoniously to support our taking a deep emotional inquiry putting the pieces together during this period for an energetic retake. The 28°12' Scorpio New Moon cosmic energies peak on 20 November at 1:47 a.m. EDT (Washington DC) and 6:47:01 a.m. UT (Greenwich, UK). These two lean heavyweights discuss two fundamental lean processes that are absolutely critical to transform and grow an enterprise: lean product and process development (LPPD) and hoshin kanri.  Jim is a former Ford Global Engineering Director and Rivian Chief Operating Officer. He co-authored The Toyota Product Development System and Designing the Future, both of which elements of LPPD, a system for developing new products and services and their required value streams. Jim co-authored The Toyota Product Development System and Designing the Future, both of which explore elements of LPPD, a system for developing new products and services and the processes needed to produce and deliver them. LPPD surfaces and resolves issues across the product-development value stream in order to minimize time- and profit-consuming wastes and rework.  Mark, a 23-year veteran of Toyota, including work in Corporate Strategy at the automaker, recently authored Managing on Purpose, which explores hoshin kanri and how it aligns enterprises at every level — C-suite through the frontline — via a shared common purpose, problem solving, and continuous learning. Since 2011 when he joined LEI, Mark has successfully helped many executives apply hoshin kanri and transform their companies in a variety of business sectors.   For executives not yet familiar with LPPD and hoshin kanri — especially those leading and growing enterprises — this discussion should be eye-opening. Jim and Mark reveal these two processes as not operations-only tools but game-changing methods for corporate leaders to transform their organizations. They describe the importance of these powerful processes to overall business success, their successes at Toyota and other lean organizations, and how the processes can significantly help any business, big or small.  Stay connected to the latest thinking in lean management. Venture beneath the surface as we explore astrology's most mysterious territory - the fourth house. This is where we cross the threshold of the Imum Coeli (IC), descending to "the bottom of the sky" to discover our deepest foundations. The fourth house holds the key to understanding your emotional inheritance - not just your physical home or family structure, but the psychic atmosphere you absorbed during your formative years. Like Odysseus longing to return home after years of wandering, we all carry this yearning for belonging deep within our souls. What masks did you wear in your family of origin? How do you automatically revert to childhood patterns when returning home? The fourth house reveals these personas and adaptation strategies, along with the ancestral legacies that shape your sense of identity and security.Drawing on rich mythological symbolism, we explore the Minotaur's labyrinth as a metaphor for family secrets and unspoken dynamics. Just as Theseus needed Ariadne's thread to navigate those twisted passages, we need consciousness to face what's been hidden in our family systems. By confronting these shadows with reverence rather than shame, we liberate tremendous energy previously used for repression. This house represents your roots, without which your tenth house achievements (your reach) cannot be sustained. By establishing a strong foundation through soul-making work in the fourth house, you prepare for the creative self-expression and individuation of the fifth house.Whether you're a seasoned astrologer or just beginning to explore your chart, this episode offers profound insights into your inner landscape and belonging. In the 1800’s Thomas Edison invented, among other things, the light bulb, the record player, and the first motion picture capture device which paved the way for the birth of movies. Was Thomas Edison a genius? In response to that question Edison said, “Genius is one percent inspiration and 99% perspiration.” Meaning, you can have a great idea, but you also have to have the tenacity and work ethic to bring it to life. So, how do you do that? New Orleans’ two most recently successful companies, Lucid – which sold for over one billion dollars, and Levelset, which sold for 500 million - were both founded with assistance from business accelerator, The Idea Village. Today, a lot of entrepreneurs owe their foundational steps, and their growth, to business accelerators and incubators. Okay, but what if you have a great idea for a business, and you don’t get accepted to a business incubator? Or maybe you live in a place where there is no incubator, accelerator, or even anyone who can give you any business advice at all. Then what do you do? Then, you ask Solomon. Solomon is an AI-powered business accelerator. But the business guidance you’re going to get from it is not generic AI advice pulled off the internet. Solomon’s business advice is drawn from the experience of real humans, who Solomon refers to as “Luminaries.” One of these luminaries is Chris Meaux. Chris is the grandfather of Louisiana startups, the founder of the revolutionary food delivery app Waitr. At Waitr Chris came up with the technology that took food delivery beyond pizza and Chinese food to all restaurants, and paved the way for a generational change in dining in. Today, Chris is Co-Founder of a company called QiMana. It’s the company that created Solomon. Peter's other lunch guest, Chuck Perrett, had an architectural inspiration. Chuck is not an architect. He grew up in a family business that printed architectural blueprints. With the advent of the internet, architects started relying less on printed blueprints and instead started emailing contractors and sub-contractors. Now, if you’ve ever tried to organize anything more complex than dinner for two by email, you know what a cluster that can turn into. So, imagine how unwieldy an email chain gets when you’re trying to communicate about construction and design issues with contractors and sub-contractors. That’s why Chuck Perrett was inspired to create Centerline, a cloud-based data management for architects that pulls all of their project-related information out of their inbox and puts it into what’s called a Project Information Model. Chuck launched Centerline in 2021, began taking clients in 2022, saw 350% growth in 2023, and today the company has architectural firm clients across the country. There are only so many hours in a day. You can fill them doing any number of things. You can go to work, you can come home and relax, maybe go see a movie, watch TV, write poetry, play sports... Or you could invent an online business consultancy Or reinvent architectural communication. Out to Lunch was recorded live over lunch at Columns in Uptown New Orleans. In this conversation, we dive into the extraordinary creative partnership between two of the most celebrated figures in contemporary opera—librettist Gene Scheer and composer Jake Heggie. Together, Gene and Jake have brought to life some of the most powerful operatic works of our time, including Moby-Dick, Three Decembers, and It's a Wonderful Life. Their collaboration is not only rooted in artistic brilliance but also in a deep, long-standing friendship.Individually, their accomplishments are equally impressive. Gene Scheer has worked with a range of renowned composers, including Jennifer Higdon on Cold Mountain and Tobias Picker on An American Tragedy. He's also an accomplished composer in his own right—his song American Anthem was featured in Ken Burns' Emmy Award-winning documentary on World War II.Jake Heggie's groundbreaking first opera, Dead Man Walking, with a libretto by Terrence McNally, launched him into the spotlight. Since then, his work in art song and opera has made a lasting impact, earning him the title of Musical America's 2025 Composer of the Year. So who better to explore the dynamic between a librettist and a composer? In this two-part conversation, we unpack what makes a successful collaboration and how words and music come together to create something truly unforgettable.Part One's conversation took place during a particularly exciting time—Moby-Dick was being performed at the Metropolitan Opera. Throughout our discussion, the opera serves as a touchstone for understanding the creative process. We begin with a fundamental question: how do they do it? Specifically, how do hard work and patience shape their creative journey? We get into the nuts and bolts of collaboration—how they challenge and inspire each other to reach new heights. Gene shares insights into the stages of researching and writing a libretto, including the story of how saving $100 unexpectedly launched his career. Spring is ever so subtly revealing itself here at Alfa Vedic Gardens, as tiny buds are making their first appearance, bird life is once again in abundance, and frogs are in full chorus.  We've been busy in preparation for both farm prep and restocking the shelves site-wide at our on-line store, with a number of new surprises in the works.  We're starting with a whole new look for the popular AV Illumined™ line that is becoming available as we speak. Alfacast is back in full swing this week with Nichole Murphy shedding new light on the nature of this wonderful world that we all call home.  There's quite a kerfuffle as of late concerning the shape of our Earthship, with popular internet theorists taking exceptional umbrage with each other. Mike and Barre like to ponder all sides of any issue, with an ever-present "note-to-self" that nobody really knows the complete truth from this side of the veil, so why not just enjoy the adventure.  Flaws are apparent on both sides of the globe vs flat earth controversyand Nichole brings a common sense, home-schooling approach to the issue that parallels our personal interest in understanding function over form. Nichole Murphy is the owner of The Law of The Luminaires channel on Rumble and The Keystone on telegram. Nichole shows the movement of the Luminaires with a goal of anyone being able to observe the luminaires for themselves without the old false narratives. She bridges the syncretism of Holy Books within the sky through the science of the universe, the Tropical system: The sun and moon's movement between the tropics which mimics the flow of magnetism throughout the Toroidal Earth.
