In the early morning hours of June 6, 1996, a frantic 911 call came in from a quiet neighborhood in Rowlett, Texas. On the line was 26-year-old Darlie Routier, who said she and her sons had been stabbed by an intruder while they slept in the downstairs family room. When first responders arrived, they found a horrific scene—six-year-old Devon and five-year-old Damon lying on the floor with multiple stab wounds, while Darlie was walking around, bleeding from several knife injuries of her own. As officers cleared the house and paramedics worked to save the victims, Darlie repeated the same story: a man in dark clothing had come into the family room, stabbed her and her children, then fled through the garage—leaving the knife behind. But as investigators began to process the scene and piece together what had unfolded in the Routier home, a new set of questions emerged—about Darlie's version of events, the physical evidence, and what she did—and didn't do—after the attack. On this week's episode I'm telling Russ all about the wrongful conviction and exoneration of a woman named Julie Rae! Her story is totally nuts and actually brings up 2 other cases we have already covered. Way back in 2020 I told Russ about the case of Darlie Routier and my opinion on it caused us to get more hate e-mail then any other episode! Julie's case is eerily similar to Darlie's and may even make some of you question if Darlie should be on death row right now. Moral of the story... Its the one's claiming to do good but are actually causing harm that we should be the most afraid of. The real villains are the wolves in sheep's clothing. Learn more about your ad choices. This is part 2 of the Darlie Roulie case. in this half we will discuss; the trial... The silly sting... all the evidence against Darlie....but.. even if you really believe she did this... and the evidence does point to her.. but, why? Darin had a 250,000 life insurance policy on Darlie.. maybe she was the target. But, is a hired hitman, just going to come in and murder the children, free of charge, without even completing the only reason he was there? So many things in this story don't add up. Is the right person sitting on death row right now, or is there still a killer out on the loose.Support the showIf you're interested in receiving bonus episodes, early release dates, an everything scary sticker and ‘thank you' as well as a shout out on our regular feed! TRIGGER WARNING. Todays episode is a well known, highly controversial case. Sadly, it does involve child murder, so listeners, please use your own discretion. On June 6th of 1996, according to 26 year old Darlie Routier, a man wearing a dark shirt, dark baseball cap, and jeans broke into the home that she lived in with her husband Darin, their two eldest sons; Damon and Devon, and their 8 month old baby Drake. Darlie had been asleep in the family living room with Damon and Devon, when the unknown intruder attacked all three. Nothing was stolen, even though Darlie had actually left thousands of dollars worth in jewellery out on the kitchen counter. Even weirder, was that this ‘intruder' had used a knife from the Routiers butcher block. Was Darlie a victim of a horrible assault, as well as every mothers worst nightmare, or was there more to it than she was saying.Support the showIf you're interested in receiving bonus episodes, early release dates, an everything scary sticker and ‘thank you' as well as a shout out on our regular feed! Join Jules, Lisa and Matt on a thought-provoking and chilling journey as we explore the evidence, scrutinize the theories, and question the verdict that has left many perplexed and divided. In the quiet town of Rowlett, Texas, a seemingly idyllic suburban home transforms into a scene of unimaginable horror. On June 6, 1996, Darlie Routier, a young mother of three, claimed that an intruder had broken into her home, brutally attacked her and her children, and left her fighting for her life. Tragically, two of her sons did not survive the ordeal. But as investigators delved into the details, inconsistencies emerged, and Darlie soon found herself accused of a heinous crime: the murder of her own children. The case captured national attention, fueled by sensational media coverage and a series of shocking revelations that challenged the initial narrative. In this gripping podcast series, we explore the complexities of the Darlie Routier case, dissecting the evidence, examining the forensic analysis, and exploring the motives behind the prosecution's case. We delve into the courtroom drama, revealing the strategies employed by both the defense and the prosecution, and examine the role of public perception in shaping the outcome. We confront the lingering questions that continue to haunt this case: Did Darlie Routier commit these unspeakable acts? Or was she a victim of a flawed investigation and a rush to judgment? As we peel back the layers of this compelling story, we also explore broader themes of justice, the death penalty, and the impact of media on high-profile trials. We invite you to join us on this riveting exploration, where we seek to shed light on the Darlie Routier case and challenge your own perceptions of guilt and innocence. *Please note all opinions in the show are our own and solely in regards to the specific case we are discussing in this episode* Special thanks to the producers of todays show, your support means the world! : Michael and Carolyn Y. June 6, 1996, Rowlett, Texas. Two small boys and their mother are sleeping in the family room for the night. The mother wakes, and a man in dark clothing and a baseball hat is standing at her feet. In a frenzy, she screams and runs through her house after him. When she turns on the lights she sees that both of her children have been mortally wounded. But when local police and EMS arrive, the scene was more than they were capable of handling. And now, 27 years later, it's unclear if anyone will ever know who murdered little Devon and Damon. This is the story of Darlie Lynn Routier. Guilty? This is the case of Darlie Routier. We've mentioned it before and now it is time to do a DEEP dive. We are talking fast and covering a lot so get cozy.
Tonight's case is technically a solved one, but new DNA evidence could blow the whole thing open again. Mother of three, Darlie Routier, would call 911 in the early morning hours of June 6th, 1996, to report that an intruder had stabbed her two young sons to death in her home. Darlie had also been stabbed but would recover from her injuries. Her behavior after her boys were laid to rest made many people wonder if she was really the grieving mother she was supposed to be. After the scene was processed, the witnesses were interviewed, and the evidence collected - everything pointed in one direction. Darlie Routier was not another victim in the attack, she was the perpetrator. She would be arrested for the murders of her sons, found guilty and sentenced to death. She still sits on death row to this day and has never wavered in maintaining her innocence. And there are many people who believe she is an innocent woman. But what does the DNA say? We will walk through the story, timeline, evidence, trial and where things stand right now.
