Eagle Calls and Eulogies: A Comedy Tribute

Some episodes are carefully constructed journeys through comedy, culture, and the human condition. This one starts with an eagle call, gets yelled at by an offended listener, drinks imaginary Malört, sends Riz back to college, remembers the horrors of Rotten.com, and eventually makes everybody emotional over Dolly Parton. So… basically the same thing.Episode 101 of The Rizzuto Show kicks off with Team JB and the Zero Prostate Cancer Run and Walk in memory of our buddy Jeff Burton, plus Greek Fire getting ready for a show benefiting Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital. Then we get into one of radio's oldest traditions: somebody getting mad enough at the show to contact the bosses. This time, a listener wasn't thrilled about the proximity of the Porno Birthday to a children's charity announcement. Riz got the dreaded “Can I see you before you leave?” message, and suddenly we're debating whether everybody is too easily offended, whether people need to watch what they say, and whether society could possibly locate that mythical middle ground where empathy and a sense of humor coexist.Rafe brings the comedian's perspective to the argument, including the audience member who loves 99 jokes but desperately needs to inform you about the one they didn't like. Our solution remains remarkably simple: maybe leave that joke at the club and take the other ones home. Then it's time for E Memoriam, where this comedy podcast says goodbye to the things that technically don't require a eulogy but absolutely deserve one anyway.First victim: Malört.We discover that Malört has somehow created an entire identity around tasting terrible. Most companies try to convince customers their product is delicious. Malört basically dares you to survive it. The gang dives into its hilariously hostile marketing, its reputation as Chicago's favorite way to punish a friend, and the important question nobody has apparently answered: Is anyone ordering this stuff because they actually enjoy it?From there, we say farewell to Sam Rizzuto's dream of college independence after Riz tours the University of Arkansas and realizes he might want the full college experience himself. Suddenly we're imagining a Back to School scenario where father and son become Razorbacks together, share a dorm, take Intro to Communications, and graduate in the same class. Nothing weird about that whatsoever, Sam. Your new roommate just happens to be Dad.The E Memoriam keeps rolling through an alleged NFL-owner prostitution story before taking a hard nostalgic turn toward two artifacts from the Internet's lawless frontier: Rotten.com and terrible Hotmail addresses.Kids today have algorithms delivering disturbing content directly to them. We had to type Rotten.com into a Gateway computer, wait for a 56k modem to connect, and then stare helplessly as a horrifying JPEG loaded one traumatic horizontal strip at a time. And Hotmail? Hotmail was where an entire generation created email addresses at 14 without considering the possibility that someday they might need to send a résumé or refinance a house. Nothing screams “results-oriented professional” quite like an inbox name created by a teenage boy in 2001.But then the show changes gears. The real RIPs begin with tributes to Peter Cullen and Tim Curry, celebrating two remarkable careers and the voices, characters, movies, and performances they left behind. Finally, Rafe delivers a deeply personal tribute to Dolly Parton.Rather than simply listing accomplishments, he reflects on what Dolly represented to a small-town kid with ridiculous dreams: proof that where you begin doesn't determine where you finish. He talks about her ability to become enormously successful without becoming ashamed of where she came from, to take her work seriously without taking herself too seriously, and to stand for something without treating everyone who disagreed with her like an enemy. It's funny, sincere, personal, and probably more emotionally responsible than anything surrounding the previous discussion of Malört.That's The Rizzuto Show: sarcastic humor, weird news, questionable nostalgia, entertainment commentary, and occasionally a moment that reminds us there are actual human beings behind these microphones.Come for the ridiculous stories. Stay for the unexpected feelings. And enjoy another comedy podcast episode that proves we can apparently make the emotional journey from horrible liquor to Dolly Parton in roughly half an hour.Follow The Rizzuto Show → linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → 1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Today's episode begins exactly where every respectable radio program should: debating canned chili and whether The Rizzuto Show should abandon broadcasting altogether to open a chili parlor. Because apparently decades of radio experience were merely preparation for serving questionable bowls of meat during a St. Louis summer. The crew gets into a disturbing local story involving two kittens rescued after being thrown from a moving vehicle, which launches a conversation about animal cruelty, punishment, and why there have been so many bizarre animal-abuse cases around the St. Louis area. Thankfully, the kittens are recovering, because this show has enough emotional damage without adding more. Then we head to the amusement park formerly known as Six Flags, talk about its new Mid America Adventure identity, and immediately start remembering the various roller coasters that have spent decades attempting to rearrange our internal organs. That leads us to California's X2 coaster and reports of riders suffering terrifying medical emergencies. Naturally, half the room hears “brain hemorrhage” and responds like someone just announced a new thrill ride they absolutely have to try.Rafe also gives us an update from the dating world, including his Texas connection and the increasingly complicated rules surrounding modern romance. That turns into the question every hopeless romantic eventually has to answer: is a grand gesture thoughtful… or are you about three seconds away from appearing in somebody's “THIS GUY IS A CREEP” TikTok?A guy goes on two dates with a woman, finds her address without asking, and sends her Mother's Day flowers supposedly from her dog. Sweet? Creepy? Thirsty? The Rizz Show Supreme Court is now in session, and absolutely nobody involved has passed the bar.Apparently this question is complicated enough to involve law enforcement, surveillance footage, social media, and an actual public search for the guy who picked up the cash. Suddenly our daily comedy podcast has become CSI: Walmart, where the suspect is armed with three ten-dollar bills and an extremely debatable interpretation of “finders keepers.”We also get into air-travel nightmares after a pilot suffers a medical emergency during a flight and still manages to help get the plane safely on the ground. Meanwhile, Moon is preparing to fly, which is exactly the kind of story you want to hear immediately before heading to an airport. The episode's namesake saga involves Yolanda Jackson, a drive-through order, a dangerously hot pot pie, severe burns, permanent scarring, and the resulting courtroom battle. Nothing says daily comedy quite like discovering your food apparently requires protective equipment. It's another episode filled with St. Louis stories, weird news, dating disasters, food catastrophes, questionable financial ethics, amusement-park trauma, and the kind of conversations that start somewhere reasonable before wandering directly into the woods.Dust off that giant binder of scratched CDs you definitely didn't throw away because apparently funny podcast history has come full circle: physical media is making a comeback. The show kicks off with the surprising resurgence of CDs, with sales jumping while vinyl growth slows down. Why? Turns out paying nearly $40 for a new record eventually makes people reconsider the humble compact disc. Gen Z is getting into CDs, independent record stores are stocking more of them, older cars still have CD players, and there's something comforting about owning music that can't suddenly disappear from a streaming service. Moon also realizes those boxes of old band CDs might not be useless relics after all. Congratulations to everyone who refused to clean out their basement. Your moment has arrived. Then Crap on Celebrities takes us directly into the wildly expensive world of Hollywood memorabilia. A screen-matched mosquito-in-amber prop from the original Jurassic Park sells for more than $400,000, while Christopher Reeve's Superman gear and John Travolta's famous Saturday Night Fever suit also bring ridiculous money at auction. The crew also gets into entertainment news, including the changing timeline between theatrical releases and streaming, Toy Story 5, a live-action Scooby-Doo prequel, and Ghost taking a hiatus after Tobias Forge admits he doesn't currently have a clear vision for the band's next album. We salute a man willing to say, “I don't know what the next thing is yet,” instead of releasing twelve remixes and a commemorative popcorn bucket. Then there's Grand Theft Auto. The latest massive GTA preview sends the room into gamer mode as the crew talks about the gigantic map, Jason and Lucia's evolving relationship, smarter cops, surveillance cameras, changing disguises, massive police chases and an enormous story that could consume roughly 80 hours of your life.Chris Novoselic. Danny Carey. Mick Fleetwood. Buckethead. Joey Ramone. Billy Corgan. Angus Young. Prince. Glenn Danzig. Stevie Nicks. The measurements are flying, everyone suddenly seems either seven feet tall or legally eligible for a booster seat, and we discover once again that stage presence apparently adds about eight inches.Carefully constructed journeys through comedy, culture, and the human condition. This one starts with an eagle call, gets yelled at by an offended listener, drinks imaginary Malört, sends Riz back to college, remembers the horrors of Rotten.com, and eventually makes everybody emotional over Dolly Parton. Before social media algorithms knew everything about you, the internet was a simpler place. A lawless, dial-up wasteland where your email address was probably something like BongRipper69@hotmail.com and one accidental click on Rotten.com could permanently alter the trajectory of your childhood. So naturally, The Rizzuto Show is going back. This episode starts with more nostalgia for the early internet and one of its most infamous destinations: Rotten.com. Back then, you couldn't just stumble across every horrifying thing imaginable while casually scrolling your phone. No, sir. You had to work for your trauma. You had to hear about Rotten.com from somebody, type it into the family computer, click something you absolutely shouldn't have clicked, and then wait patiently while your dial-up connection loaded your lifelong regret one horrifying line at a time. Was Rotten.com disgusting? Absolutely.Does the crew still seem weirdly sad that it's gone? Also absolutely. Then we move from internet trauma to another relic of the '90s and early 2000s: Hotmail.A poll says 18% of people are apparently still rocking a Hotmail address, which leads to an important discovery: Hotmail never completely disappeared. Microsoft eventually transitioned the service into Outlook, meaning technically some of us may still be living inside the Hotmail universe. We're all dorks. Fantastic. The crew remembers the era when nobody used their actual name for an email address. Instead, we created identities that looked like rejected Xbox gamertags: random nicknames, 420s, 69s and enough questionable innuendo to make applying for a respectable adult job years later slightly complicated. And then there are the complaint emails.Apparently nothing tells the show exactly what demographic they're dealing with faster than receiving an angry message from an account created during the Clinton administration.Welcome to daily comedy, where your email provider is now apparently enough information for us to profile you.But nostalgia eventually gives way to competition as Match Up With Moon returns with Rafe versus Moon, and that's when everybody's remaining intelligence begins leaking out of the studio.Round one starts innocently enough. What's Beantown?Boston. Easy.Which amendment gave women the right to vote? The 19th. Look at us go.Who was Wendell the cereal mascot?Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Somehow we still know this information despite forgetting why we walked into rooms. Then comes the question that starts breaking brains:What does the “com” in .com actually stand for?Rafe goes with “communication.” King Scott thinks “company.” Moon correctly lands on commercial, because apparently after decades of typing web addresses, one person in the room finally bothered to understand what any of it means. The trivia chaos continues with questions about Heineken, the 2006 St. Louis Cardinals and one of the most important cereal discoveries of our time: Cap'n Crunch apparently has an actual name.Horatio Crunch.Good for Horatio. Glad somebody finally gave the Captain the respect he deserves.Round two somehow gets worse.Which country contains more than half of the world's natural lakes? What's the only internal human organ capable of regenerating itself? Who originally hosted America's Got Talent? Which fast-food chain helped introduce Tater Tots? And then Rizz makes Moon and Rafe physically write down how many zeros are in a quadrillion.Moon arrives at 15.Rafe ALSO WRITES DOWN 15 ZEROS……and then says 16 out loud. That is the kind of unforced error this daily comedy show was built upon.Nothing quite compares to successfully solving a problem and then personally changing your own correct answer into the wrong one.The crew wraps things up by guessing attendance at the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series race at Worldwide Technology Raceway. Moon guesses 39,000. Rafe throws out 80,000. The actual answer lands between them at 57,000, giving everyone one final opportunity to demonstrate that estimating crowd sizes is basically just guessing jelly beans in a jar for adults. So today's episode has everything you could possibly need: Rotten.com nostalgia, Hotmail archaeology, terrible email addresses, Cinnamon Toast Crunch lore, Tater Tot history, St. Louis Cardinals trivia, NASCAR math and grown men discovering what “dot com” means approximately three decades after the internet became popular. We used to think the early internet was making us smarter.Turns out we were mostly waiting 12 minutes for a picture to load.Follow The Rizzuto Show → linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → 1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The Rizzuto Show kicks things off by remembering Tim Curry, his legendary career, and the unfortunate timing of losing another beloved celebrity during an already emotional week. That leads the crew into the important question of who could possibly fill the role of a universally beloved celebrity these days. Adam Sandler gets consideration, Jeff Bridges enters the conversation, and eventually Keanu Reeves emerges as a pretty strong candidate because apparently quietly eating ice cream and being a decent human being now qualifies you for sainthood. Fair enough. Then everybody gets nostalgic about childhood discipline, which quickly becomes less “remember the good old days?” and more “should somebody have called somebody?” The crew remembers wooden spoons, belts, Hot Wheels tracks, fly swatters, soap in the mouth and the terrifying parental phrase that basically meant your afternoon plans had been canceled. It's another wholesome trip down memory lane from your favorite funny podcast, assuming your memories involve calculating the trajectory of a leather belt like you're working for NASA.Next stop: Burning Man, where the crew investigates the return of the infamous adults-only dome after last year's wind-related disaster. There are rules now: IDs, consent, no recording devices and, most importantly, no singles strolling in alone. Which naturally launches a completely necessary discussion about whether two buddies could simply pretend to be a couple to get through the door. Journalism is alive and well.Things somehow become more respectable when we arrive in Tulsa, where authorities are searching for a mysterious serial defecator accused of targeting businesses while dressed in an ensemble involving tiny underwear, a shower cap, a modified mask and Crocs. The most damning detail? The Crocs apparently weren't in sport mode. That's how you know this guy fears neither God nor law enforcement. And then comes Oreogate.A kindergarten mom reportedly asks the other parents to stop packing Oreos because her daughter gets upset when other kids have them. No allergy. No medical issue. Just the brutal realization that another five-year-old has cookies and you do not. When the other parents refuse to reorganize their children's lunches around this international crisis, Mom considers switching schools.Over Oreos.Meanwhile, the kid starts trading for them anyway, proving once again that kindergarten cafeterias are basically tiny prisons with better wall art. The crew debates school-lunch currency, Double Stuf superiority, Golden Oreos, questionable specialty flavors and the economic insanity required to consider changing schools because Nabisco has destroyed the peace. There are even pickle-flavored Oreo-adjacent horrors entering the studio, because apparently talking about terrible cookies wasn't enough—we needed witnesses. It's celebrity talk, childhood trauma disguised as nostalgia, weird news, Burning Man logistics, criminal fashion analysis and one kindergarten snack dispute treated with roughly the seriousness of an international trade embargo. The crew dives into UFOs becoming UAPs, government disclosures, Bob Lazar, Area 51 and whether actual extraterrestrial visitors could finally unite humanity. Rafe thinks having one common alien enemy might finally turn us all into citizens of Earth. Moon isn't buying that optimism and figures we'd probably start fighting over which country gets custody of the aliens before they even get out of the ship. Sounds about right.Back on Earth, St. Louis is getting a little Hollywood treatment with The Streak, a sports comedy filming locally about Caltech's legendary basketball team snapping a 310-game losing streak. The production needs roughly 1,800 volunteer extras for basketball crowd scenes, meaning you too can spend five hours waiting around for your glorious half-second of blurry cinematic immortality. At least they're bringing stand-up comedians in to entertain the extras between takes. Then we enter conspiracy territory with Tropical Storm Dolly. Yes, shortly after Dolly Parton's passing, the next named Atlantic storm happens to be Dolly. No, they didn't name it after her. Yes, the names were already determined. And yes, people online are still turning it into a conspiracy because apparently coincidence was removed from the Internet's vocabulary sometime around 2017. It's the kind of discussion a comedy podcast was genetically engineered to handle. The show also remembers the incredible Tim Curry, looking back at everything from The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Clue to Home Alone 2, Congo and his nightmare-fueling performance as Pennywise in the 1990 TV adaptation of It. Somehow that horrifying sewer scene aired on network television and an entire generation of children was simply expected to sleep afterward. The '90s were built different.Crap on Celebrities brings even more chaos: the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni legal saga, Jamie Foxx discussing changes made to Django Unchained, a Quentin Tarantino-written Cliff Booth project, the original Sandlot cast reuniting for Dugout Dads, and the revelation that Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez grew up to become a firefighter. There is also a detour into a bizarre 2015 incident involving actor Mike Vitar because apparently even The Sandlot can't survive this show without us finding something weird.Ozzy Osbourne is getting his own Halloween Horror Nights attraction, Boston is celebrating 50 years with previously unreleased demos, Eric Clapton and John Mayer have a limited-edition guitar collection benefiting Clapton's recovery center, and Rupert Grint is returning as an adult Ron Weasley on Broadway. It's celebrity news, music news and pop culture commentary delivered with the level of professionalism you've come to expect from people debating alien treaties earlier in the episode. Even in a tough fundraising market, investors are still writing checks. The question is: to whom? This week, we break down the latest CPG investment data and examine why protein-packed, dye-free, and ingredient-conscious startups continue to stand out with investors. We also take a closer look at the emerging products generating buzz – including protein candy, mushroom lemonade, snacking croutons, and tinned protein bars – and what they say about the future of food and beverage. Show notes: 0:20: A Timely Story. Which Direction? Head North. Algae Oil Is Hot. Jacked Up. Crunch, Sip, Snack. – The hosts open the episode by discussing the rapid rise of better-for-you candy, prompted by a recent New York Times article highlighting the category's momentum. While debating the role of alternative sweeteners and whether consumers ultimately prefer lower-sugar formulations or products made with real sugar, they also discuss how the success of brands like Poppi has inspired entrepreneurs to apply similar better-for-you playbooks to adjacent categories. The conversation then shifts to investment trends, drawing on Northhall's Q2 2026 Food, Beverage & CPG Financing Report to examine which early-stage concepts are attracting the most investor interest. They highlight recent funding rounds for companies such as Buffs and Algae Cooking Club, along with large-scale M&A activity driven by major corporations repositioning their portfolios around evolving consumer preferences. The hosts also turn their attention to a range of new products, including protein bars packaged in sardine-style tins, snacking croutons, Korean-style bone broth, and mushroom-infused sparkling lemonade. They discuss merchandising strategies, consumer appeal, and whether these unconventional formats and flavors have the potential to break into the mainstream. Brands in this episode: Rotten, Original Tiniez, Chewerz, Happy Candy, Better Sour, SmartSweets, Joyride, Good Greed, Poppi, Olipop, Buffs, Algae Cooking Club, Jacked Granny, RXBAR, David, Croots, Kushi,  Pepperidge Farm, Reclamation, Brodo, Brio Drinks, Goldie

Welcome to The Reel Schmooze with ToI film reviewer Jordan Hoffman and host Amanda Borschel-Dan, where we bring you all the entertainment news and film reviews a Jew can use. This week, Hoffman starts the program with a unique dvar Torah, tying together the new blockbuster "The Odyssey" with James Joyce's "Ulysses" and antisemitism in Ireland. Goes well with white fish. Then we turn to the main event: "Reading Lolita in Tehran," which was directed by Israeli filmmaker Eran Riklis and is currently playing in select cinemas. Labeled "a memoir in books," the film is based on the bestselling autobiography by author Azar Nafisi, published in 2003. The film is divided into chapters based on famous literature, including "The Great Gatsby," "Daisy Miller," and "Pride and Prejudice." It stars Golshifteh Farahani (known from a Hoffman favorite, "Paterson"), Zar Amir Ebrahimi, Mina Kavani and Israeli mega-star entertainer Rita. Let's hear who gave this film an "oy," "meh" or the prized "not bad" this week on The Reel Schmooze. The Reel Schmooze is produced by Ari Schlacht and can be found wherever you get your podcasts.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In 1980s South Africa, a well-known resident of a small Northern Cape town, launched a scheme many believed would be their ticket to the soft life. But it wouldn't be long before people outside of the scheme started to ask questions. When they did, they were shut down, even threatened by those within the scheme's quarters. Soon though, the sheer scale of the fraud was laid bare, and it wasn't just contained to South Africa. The scheme became the biggest postal fraud case in United States history at the time, and for the man at the helm, in many ways, it was just the beginning. - 24-hr trauma helpline 082-821-3447 - Support the show on Patreon https://www.patreon.com/truecrimesa - Support the show on PayPal https://www.paypal.me/truecrimesa - Get TCSA and General True Crime Merch on https://sacriminologist.co.za/shop/ 10% off with code TCSA sitewide - The disclaimer voiceover was done by Karabo Peter at the VOW 88.1 studios Instagram · Pinterest · Facebook · YouTube · Twitter · LinkedIn

This talk explains that meditation develops the ability to experience each moment without the filters of past judgments, memories, or future fears. By cultivating "radical mindfulness," meditators learn to recognize experiences as they truly are, rather than reacting through personal interpretations and emotional habits. Through this practice, we free ourselves from the "old food" of the past and the "unprepared food" of the future, allowing us to live with greater wisdom, peace, and presence. The most exhaustive survey that you will find of the “Bog Bodies” – the highly preserved human remains, often of ancient Iron-Age people whose lives were ended violently, that have been discovered in wetlands all across northern Europe, from Estonia to Ireland, over the past 250 years. We consider how, when, and why these often shockingly intact bodies have been found, what facts can be gleaned about who they were, and finally, when and where the practice of killing people and placing them into bogs originated (hint: it's in the title). In the next installment, we will discuss the competing theories as to why these Iron Age people died violently, incuding murder, execution, and sacrifice. The suspects are Cortavian and Cortavius Hobbs — the brothers of Cortarius Hobbs, the 17-year-old accused of murdering an elderly couple in Simpson County just days earlier. Clay connects the dots between the recent violence, discusses the backlash he received for suggesting people pray for the shooter's mother, and doubles down on his message about accountability and culture rot. He also covers the arrest of a woman caught with over $400,000 worth of drugs near the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility and calls out the hypocrisy of a trail ride promoter who threw a “stop the gun violence” rally after one of his events turned deadly. In hour two, Andrew Gasser joins Clay to discuss the ongoing violence, mental health, and why some people refuse to face uncomfortable truths. This episode is raw, direct, and unapologetic. In 1954, a group of young Jewish idealists in Egypt were recruited by Israeli intelligence to plant bombs in Western institutions, only to be betrayed by their own double agent handler before the mission even began. Arrests, torture, a show trial, two executions, and a suicide followed. Back in Israel, the fallout was just as devastating: forged documents, cover-ups, and a bitter vendetta between Defense Minister Pinhas Lavon and Prime Minister David Ben Gurion that tore the ruling party apart. This is part two of our series on Israel's most embarrassing intelligence blunder. It reads like fiction. It wasn't. Mea Culpa welcomes back our good friend, Brooklyn Dad Defiant, or simply BDD. BDD is a left-wing political commentator on Twitter, YouTube, and various other social media platforms. His outspoken defiance and often humorous take on the Trump administration have earned him over 1.2 million Twitter followers. Since the riots at the Capitol on January 6, BDD has used his platform to bring attention to GOP lawmakers like MTG, Cruz, Jordan, and Biggs, asking that they face consequences for their actions in connection to the insurrection. In addition, he is keeping watch over Kevin McCarthy and the GOP Congress over what he sees as the far-right hijacking of our legislature and courts to push through a damaging, extremist agenda. He calls himself a proud papa who is perpetually pissed. He's a fascinating guy. BBD and Michael dig deep into Rudy, DeSantis and what's in store for Trump.
