The Brown's Chicken massacre is remembered not just as a crime, but as a heartbreaking moment when seven ordinary people living ordinary lives never came home. On January8, 1993, two men walked into a small fast‑food restaurant in Palatine, Illinois, and shattered an entire community. By morning, families who had been waiting by the window, calling phones that would never ring, learned that their parents, children, and friends had been taken from them in an act of senseless violence. What lingers today is not the brutality, but the love those families carried forward—the way they kept telling stories, lighting candles, and saying their names so the world would remember who was lost, not just how they were taken. Septic Tank Sam was the nickname given to an unidentified murder victim found on April 13, 1977, in a disused septic tank on an abandoned farm near Tofield, Alberta. Because investigators could not identify him for decades, he became known as “Septic Tank Sam". In 2021, advances in forensic genealogy finally led to a major breakthrough in this case, but that doesn't mean the case is closed, there's still work to be done! If you have any information about Gordon Sanderson's movements around the time of his death in the spring of 1977, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Alberta RCMP at 780‑412‑5424. Gregg is an independent researcher, writer and music producer from the UK who focuses on esotericism and occultism alongside media and literature theory, cyberculture, fictioning, and non-standard philosophy. He graduated an MA in Spirituality and Religion from University of Amsterdam in 2025 and is currently working on expanding his thesis research into a PhD project. In this episode, Gregg peels back the layers of the Cybernetic Culture Research Unit, or CCRU, a group that stands as one of the most unique and enigmatic forms of modern occultism. Using a "matryoshka doll" methodology, we look briefly at the core members of the group, and then explore the CCRU as a collective myth and an independent entity. We'll trace their origins from the intellectual split between Sadie Plant's cyberfeminism and Nick Land's "dark" inhumanism, fueled by the rhythmic, non-linear influences of the 1990s jungle dance scene. We discuss "Time Sorcery," the Numogram, and the mechanics of hyperstition—the process by which fictions "make themselves real" through cybernetic feedback loops to reshape our present reality. To explain this concept a bit further, the core of Gregg's thesis focuses on "Hyperstition as the idea of fictions that make themselves real by functioning as "time-circuits" or self-fulfilling prophecies. Gregg illustrates how the CCRU's use of "theory-fiction" was not merely a literary style, but a deliberate "writing magic" designed to bypass rational thought and manifest "inhuman" entities or future outcomes into the present. Ultimately, the work positions the CCRU as a unique bridge between 20th-century esoteric practices (like Chaos Magic) and the digital-age occultism of the 21st century, suggesting that the group's influence persists today as a collective entity or "egregore" that continues to shape contemporary culture and philosophy. For Patreon and YouTube members, we dive even deeper into the controversial legacy of Nick Land in Part 2, re-evaluating him not just as a philosopher, but as an experimental occultist who used extreme methods to achieve ego-dissolution. We also tackle the complex evolution of accelerationism, tracing the pipeline from CCRU-era theories to the intellectual foundations of the Alt-Right and the modern phenomenon of "Meme Magic." However, we also explore the alternative, hopeful sides of these "weird" tools—examining Left-Accelerationism, and Mark Fisher's "Acid Communism" to see how these theories can be used to reclaim lost futures and foster collective hope. In the early morning hours of December 1, 1991, 46‑year‑old Jane Duston of Branson, Missouri, took the lives of most of her family and then her own. Jane had recently undergone surgery for uterine cancer and was receiving medication for depression. While we cannot fully know what she experienced or the depth of her suffering, these factors are believed to have played a role in that tragic night. As we close out Mental Health Awareness Month, this painful story is a solemn reminder that we often cannot see the struggles people carry inside. Serious illness, treatment, and mental health conditions can quietly and powerfully alter a person's thoughts and behaviors, even in those who once seemed steady and strong. Out of that awareness, we can choose compassion: to listen without judgment, to check in with those who may be isolated, and to encourage—gently and persistently—access to care and support. Small acts of kindness and vigilance can matter deeply to someone who feels alone. If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, confidential, free, 24/7/365 help is available. In the rural province of Entre Ríos, Argentina, a family vanished without a trace. On January 12, 2002, Rubén “Mencho” Gill, his partner Margarita Gallegos and their four children spent the afternoon with friends, returned to the farm where they lived, and were never seen again. Their belongings were left behind: clothes, documents and even Margarita's paycheck. They had no vehicle and no known conflicts. Their employer waited three months to notify relatives. Years later the police searched the ranch and found strange clues including traces of blood but no bodies, no suspects, no explanations were ever found. More than twenty years later, the case remains one of Argentina's most unsettling mysteries: six people gone in one night with no answers. Click here to join our Patreon. The West Memphis Three case remains one of the most debated criminal cases in modern U.S. history, marked by conflicting interpretations of evidence, questions about investigative methods, and ongoing disagreement about guilt or innocence. While Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley Jr. were convicted in 1994, years of scrutiny have raised concerns about the reliability of key evidence, including Misskelley's confession and disputed forensic findings. The emergence of alternative suspects and new DNA testing further complicated the case, leading to their release in 2011 through Alford pleas while maintaining their innocence. Ultimately, the case highlights broader issues within the justice system, including the risks of wrongful conviction, the influence of public perception, and the importance of thorough, unbiased investigations. As we conclude this case in its entirety, I want to remind you of the victims who don't get a second chance and still need justice: Stevie Branch, Michael Moore and Christopher Byers. The West Memphis Three case centers on the brutal 1993 murders of three eight-year-old boys—Stevie Branch, Michael Moore, and Christopher Byers—in West Memphis, Arkansas. Police arrested three teenagers, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley Jr., who became known as the West Memphis Three. In part 2 we'll go over Jesse and Damien's trials and how the prosecution argued the killings were part of a satanic ritual, a claim influenced by the era's “Satanic Panic.” Jesse did confess to the murders after a long interrogation, which became a key piece of evidence, though he later recanted the confession and it's been heavily debated over the years. On February 27, 1995, Cheryl Feeney, her 6‑year‑old son Tyler, and 18‑month‑old daughter Jennifer were found murdered inside their Springfield, Missouri home. The house appeared ransacked, though investigators later questioned whether the scene had been staged. At the time of the murders, Jon Feeney, their husband and father was attending a teachers' conference at Lake of the Ozarks. Despite his alibi, he became the prime suspect, and investigators spent over a year building a circumstantial case involving alleged financial motives, extramarital affairs, and claims of a staged crime scene. Jon was indicted in April 1996 and went to trial that September. On October 5, 1996, Jon Feeney was acquitted on all counts. The case remains officially unsolved and continues to be one of Missouri's most debated family‑murder investigations. Click here to join our Patreon. Click here to get your own Inhuman merch. Dr. Jason Thacker, Director of the Research Institute at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a leading voice on human dignity, ethics, and culture, joins us to open Psalm 8 and help us recover a distinctly biblical vision of what it means to be human. In a cultural moment where personhood, value, and moral worth are often treated as fluid, developmental, or dependent on ability, autonomy, or usefulness, Dr. Thacker reminds us that Scripture grounds our dignity not in what we do, what others think of us, or what we contribute, but in the God who created us, knows us, and crowns humanity with glory and honor. Walking carefully through Psalm 8, he shows how our understanding of ourselves can never be separated from our understanding of God as Creator, Sustainer, and Lord, and how our calling as image bearers flows from His majesty rather than our own self-definition.Our dignity is secure because it is rooted not in ourselves, but in the majesty of the God who made us.
Four year old Nyleen Kay Marshall disappeared on June 25, 1983, in Helena National Forest near Clancy, Montana. She was attending a picnic with her family and playing with other children near a creek. Nyleen was last seen talking to an unidentified man wearing a jogging suit when she seemingly vanished within minutes. Authorities conducted a massive search involving thousands of volunteers, helicopters, and tracking dogs, but no trace of her was ever found. Two years later, an anonymous man sent letters and made phone calls claiming he had abducted Nyleen and was raising her, though investigators were never able to identify him or confirm the claims. The case remains unsolved and is still considered a non-family abduction. Anyone with information about Nyleen's case is asked to call Jefferson County Sheriff's Office 406-225-4075 or The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678 reference # 601812. On April 16, 1990, brothers Basil (8) and Jamal (7) Abdul'Faruq were dropped off at their mother's apartment in Richmond, Virginia. Around 2:30 p.m. they went outside to play while their mother slept after a night shift. When she woke and couldn't find them, she looked for 45 minutes before calling the police. A search of the apartment complex and nearby woods found nothing. Three days later, on April 19, a worker at the Shoosmith landfill in Chesterfield County found a body. One child is deceased, the other is still missing. No suspects have been publicly named, and no arrests have been made. The case is active and unsolved in both Richmond and Chesterfield County. The Lainz Angels of Death were four Austrian nurse's aides—Waltraud Wagner, Maria Gruber, Irene Leidolf, and Stephanija Meyer—who worked at Lainz General Hospital in the 1980s. From 1983-1989 they killed at least 15 patients while pretending to care for them. Their methods later included forcing water into patients' lungs or overdosing them on medications to make their deaths look natural. In 1991 their reign of terror came to an end and all 4 women were sent to prison. While they maintained that the murders were mercy killings, many believe these women were sick and evil. The Lainz Angels of Death case remains a chilling example of medical murder and failures in oversight. Click here to join our Patreon. Click here to get your own Inhuman merch. Ryan Shtuka was a 20-year-old from Beaumont, Alberta, who disappeared in the early morning hours of February 17, 2018, while living and working at Sun Peaks Resort in British Columbia. After attending a silent disco and a nearby house party, Ryan was last seen around 2:00 a.m. as he appeared to be leaving to walk the short distance home, but he never arrived. Brianna Maitland was 17-years-old when she disappeared from Montgomery, Vermont on the night of March 19, 2004. After spending part of the day shopping with her mother, during which Brianna briefly became visibly shaken for unexplained reasons, she went to work her evening shift as a dishwasher at the Black Lantern Inn. She finished work around 11:20 p.m. and left alone in her car, telling coworkers she planned to go home and rest before working the next day. The following afternoon, Brianna's green 1985 Oldsmobile was found abandoned along Route 118 near Richford, Vermont, backed into an old, vacant building. Brianna was not at the scene, and her personal belongings—including money, her ATM card, glasses, and medication—were left inside the vehicle, indicating she likely did not leave voluntarily. Brianna's disappearance remains unsolved. Her family, particularly her father, Bruce Maitland, has continued to advocate for answers through private investigators, public awareness efforts, and the nonprofit Private Investigations for the Missing. Despite renewed attention, FBI involvement, and a standing reward for information, no definitive explanation for what happened to Brianna Maitland has ever been confirmed. If you have any information concerning Brianna's case, please contact the FBI's Toll-Free Tipline at 1-800-225-5324 or the Vermont State Police Tipline at 1-844-848-8477. You may also contact your local FBI office, or you can submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov. The FBI is offering a reward of up to $40,000 for information leading to the recovery of Brianna. Ashlea Aldrich, a 29-year-old mother from the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska, was found deceased in a field on the reservation in January 2020, with her death officially ruled an accident caused by hypothermia and alcohol, though her family strongly disputes this and believes she was the victim of long-standing domestic violence that authorities failed to adequately address. Stacy Hill, a 17-year-old from the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Tribe in Minnesota, went missing in September 2009, and her remains were discovered weeks later on the Red Lake Reservation; her case also remains unsolved, with few publicly released details about what happened to her. Both women's deaths remain open and unresolved, and their stories highlight the broader crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women, as well as ongoing concerns about under-investigation, lack of accountability, and the struggle of Native families seeking justice. Anyone with information about Ashlea's death is encouraged to call the Omaha FBI field office at 402-493-8688 If you have information Stacy Hil's death please call the Bureau of Indian Affairs Missing and Murdered Unit 833-560-2065 or you can text tips to 847-411.
