The Lindsay Clancy jury will continue deliberations Monday, but they've already deliberated longer than the juries in the trials of OJ, Dahmer, Scott Peterson, Alex Murdaugh, and Susan Smith. But they've got a long way to go if they're going to deliberate as long as the Charles Manson jury. Amy and T.J. go through the deliberation times in some famous cases (MJ, Chauvin, Cosby, Yates, Zimmerman, etc) and see what it tells us the Clancy jury. Today on The John McGinness Show the Lindsay Clancy case, involving the deaths of her three children and her subsequent jump from a second-story window that left her paralyzed, has sparked a national debate about postpartum psychosis, mental health treatment, and the role medication may play in such tragic cases. The Sheriff has drawn comparisons to the 1994 Susan Smith case in South Carolina, another high-profile case involving the deaths of children at the hands of their mother. Many people are questioning why Clancy is being given the benefit of the doubt, while others argue that severe mental illness may have significantly affected her state of mind. The case also raises broader questions about whether such actions are the result of pure evil or profound psychological impairment, and how the legal system, including in a state like California, might evaluate criminal responsibility under those circumstances. Callers give their reactions and opinions with The Sheriff.

Copyright ©2026, Weird Darkness.Originally aired: August 19, 2026This episode of Weird Darkness covers the marriage application Chris Watts filed from a Wisconsin prison eight years after murdering his pregnant wife and their two young daughters, and the long record of women who write to, visit and marry men who will never get out.It opens at Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun, Wisconsin, where an inmate may touch a visitor twice, once at the start of a visit and once at the end, an embrace reporting puts at roughly ten seconds. On August 12th, 2026 the Daily Mail reported that Chris Watts, 41, and a 39-year-old Cleveland realtor named Lizzie Henderson had applied to marry inside the Wisconsin prison system. Lizzie had moved from Ohio to Wisconsin with her mother, filed a sealed petition for a confidential name change on September 12th, 2025, and appeared in prison visitor logs roughly twenty times during 2025, plus a visit on Christmas Day of 2024. Wisconsin handles these requests under policy 309.00.06, PIOC Marriages, which routes the application through a marriage coordinator and leaves the decision with the warden. No ceremony or license has been documented, and Watts has no projected release date. From there the episode goes back to the family. The Watts family doorbell camera recorded Shanann Watts arriving home at 1:48 in the morning on August 13th, 2018 at 2825 Saratoga Trail in Frederick, Colorado. She was 34 and fifteen weeks pregnant with a son the couple had named Nico, raising daughters Bella, four, and Celeste, three, and selling Thrive for Le-Vel while her husband worked for Anadarko Petroleum and carried on an affair with co-worker Nichol Kessinger. Watts failed a polygraph administered by Colorado Bureau of Investigation agent Tammy Lee, blamed Shanann for the girls' deaths, then retracted it. A drone over an Anadarko site called CERVI 319 found Shanann in a shallow grave and both girls submerged in crude oil inside storage tanks with eight-inch hatches. Judge Marcelo Kopcow sentenced him on November 19th, 2018 to five life sentences plus 84 years. In a February 2019 interview at Waupun, Watts described smothering Celeste in his truck while Bella sat beside her, and hearing Bella's last two words, "Daddy, no!", every time he closes his eyes. The second half opens in the autumn of 1921, when French railways ran extra trains to Versailles for the trial of Henri Désiré Landru, a furniture dealer who placed lonely-hearts advertisements in Paris newspapers and murdered eleven people. Women mailed him proposals of marriage while he awaited the guillotine. The modern version runs through Meet-An-Inmate, launched in 1998, and WriteAPrisoner, founded by Adam Lovell in 2000, which post profiles written on paper because American prisons allow no internet access; Susan Smith drew more than six thousand letters before pulling her listing in 2003. Hybristophilia, the term journalists reach for, was coined by sexologist John Money in 1986 and has never appeared in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. Sheila Isenberg's Women Who Love Men Who Kill, forensic psychologist Katherine Ramsland's "perfect boyfriend" model, and sociologist Megan Comfort's San Quentin fieldwork in Doing Time Together supply what the women themselves say they are getting. Two 2025 studies found that actively seeking out romanticizing TikTok content correlated with attraction while passive exposure predicted nothing. The risk is documented in the killings of Regina Capobianco and John Mann by her pen pal Thomas Knuff in Parma Heights, Ohio, and in the strangling deaths of Stephanie Dowells and Tania Thomas during family visits at Mule Creek State Prison. The marriages run from Nina Van Zandt, who married Haymarket defendant August Spies by proxy in 1887 and may have married an innocent man, through Ted Bundy and Carole Ann Boone, Doreen Lioy and Richard Ramirez at San Quentin, the Twinkie that served as Erik Menendez and Tammi Saccoman's wedding cake, and James Whitehouse, who wrote to Susan Atkins in 1985 and went on to Harvard Law School to serve as her attorney. All of it rests on Turner v. Safley, the 1987 Supreme Court decision in which Justice Sandra Day O'Connor noted that most inmates are eventually released, leaving the man who never will be an untested case. Rhode Island's 1909 civil death statute declared lifers "dead in all respects", and Britain barred whole-life prisoners from marrying in 2024 after Milly Dowler's murderer Levi Bellfield was granted permission. The episode closes on the women who leave, absent from every study in the field. Lynn Hartman ended her engagement to Steven Avery in October of 2016 and wrote that she had been fooled by the Netflix documentary. Paula Williamson married Charles Bronson at HMP Wakefield in November of 2017, had it annulled in 2019, and died that July at thirty-eight. Anna Eriksson divorced Lyle Menendez in 2001 and still argues for his release. No agency counts prison marriages, and every figure circulating online is unsourced. Chris Watts belongs to a long file rather than a new one, having received his first letters from strangers within weeks of his December 2018 sentencing, before he had written a word to any of them.LIKE WHAT YOU'RE HEARING? Hayden Panettiere, who appeared in more than 50 commercials by age five before starring in Heroes and Nashville, was found unresponsive at 36 in a Greenville, South Carolina apartment on Sunday, August 16th, where her on again off again boyfriend Brian Hickerson and his brother Zach were both present when a 911 call reported cardiac arrest and a possible overdose. Hayden had been on a press tour for her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, detailing a decade long, documented abusive relationship with Brian Hickerson, who pled no contest to two felony domestic violence charges, and the moment Neutrogena allegedly invoked a morality clause after she opened up about postpartum depression on the Kelly and Michael Show. The story also reaches back to her engagement to Wladimir Klitschko and their daughter Kaya, and a surprising parallel Chalene draws to the Lindsay Clancy postpartum psychosis trial. Susan Smith has cardiac Sarcoidosis.  One day she was in spin class, and all of a sudden her life went into a spin.  Sarcoidosis has raised its ugly head, and now she is taking things day by day as she works with her medical team to find a solution to what seems to be a worsening problem. Susan contacted me following the release of the podcast saying she wished she had been more specific with respect to some of her diagnosis.  She asked me to pass along the following information: I wish I had made clear that I am being evaluated for autonomic small fiber neuropathy and my symptoms not only include weird sensations in the feet, dry eyes, and body temperature dysregulation but also bloatedness after eating and drinking, cold intolerance in my fingers and toes and sexual dysfunction.    Also, I wish I had explained more about how it was evident to me that I had cardiac sarcoidosis before getting the results of my first PET and my first cardiac MRI. I had had two 30 minute long episodes of ventricular tachycardia, a month apart. The second one came after being loaded up with Amiodarone at the hospital and beginning a daily dosage at home. Amiodarone is the most potent anti-arrhythmia drug available. The second episode of ventricular tachycardia did not result in my ICD firing because the Amiodarone had dampened the v-tach, making the heart beat less fast. The settings on my ICD were for a higher grade v-tach. The ER doctor shocked my heart back into rhythm. I remember it well because he did not sedate me. After the second prolonged v-tach, my primary cardiologist said to me that there must be “Infiltrations” in my heart. He threw out the word “sarcoidosis.” I read about cardiac sarcoidosis and compared my symptoms to those associated with other cardiomyopathies. It seemed to me that it was highly likely that I had cardiac sarcoidosis.    Show notes:   Johns Hopkins Sarcoidosis Event: https://aspire.hopkinsmedicine.org/project/49528 FSR helps patients navigate insurance:  https://www.stopsarcoidosis.org/foundation-for-sarcoidosis-research-announces-new-partnership-with-patient-advocate-foundation-to-expand-insurance-and-disability-support-for-sarcoidosis-patients/ Sarcoidosis News Pulmonary relapse report: https://sarcoidosisnews.com/news/relapse-common-pulmonary-sarcoidosis-treatment-changes/ MORE FROM JOHN: Cycling with Sarcoidosis http://carlinthecyclist.com/category/cycling-with-sarcoidosis/ Do you like the official song for the Sarc Fighter podcast?  It's also an FSR fundraiser! John 19:1-27We read John 19 closely and keep running into the same question: who really holds power when empire, religion, and fear all collide. We track how John's Greek wording and narrative details reshape what we think we already know about Pilate, the charges against Jesus, and the meaning of spiritual authority. • Jesus' “kingdom not of this world” as a rejection of political definitions of God's reign • Purple robe and crown of thorns as mocking symbols of royalty and insurgency • Why “a son of God” may fit the Greek better than “the Son of God” • How John's use of “Jews” often points to opposing leaders rather than an entire people • Exousia as power and authority with real-world implications for conscience • Pilate's fear and political vulnerability under pressure from accusations of disloyalty to the emperor • Letter versus Spirit as a way religious power can reverse good and evil • Ambiguities in “handed him over” and “Hebrew” meaning Hebrew or Aramaic • The inscription in multiple languages and why INRI appears in Christian art • "Woman” as a polite address (like "ma'am") and Christ's tenderness of care on the cross The quote in our introduction is from what is commonly referred to as the Quaker Peace Testimony.  A more accurate name would be A DECLARATION FROM THE HARMLESS AND INNOCENT PEOPLE OF GOD.  It was presented to King Charles II of England in 1660.  A complete list of our podcasts,  organized into topics, is available on our website. We will be publishing video interviews with Conservative Friends on YouTube.  See our YouTube channel.  The first interview is with Susan Smith. To learn more about Ohio Yearly Meeting (Conservative) of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), please visit  ohioyearlymeeting.org.  John 18:11-40We read John 18 closely, tracing how the Gospel portrays Jesus as calm and purposeful during arrest, interrogation, and the first steps toward crucifixion. We test translations and historical context to see how small word choices shape big theological claims about truth, power, and an inward kingdom.• Rereading the garden arrest and the meaning of “I am he”• Debating why the arresting party falls to the ground and what that signals about control• Unpacking first-century naming conventions behind “Jesus of Nazareth”• Asking why John names Malchus and what that suggests about sources and memory• Clarifying Simon, Peter, disciple, and key Greek terms tied to learning and identity• Examining the Annas and Caiaphas exchange as an example of coercive authority• Discussing Ioudaios and how translation choices can fuel anti-Semitic misreadings• Following Peter's denials and the narrative weight of the cockcrow• Exploring Pilate, Roman power, “What is truth,” and basileia as realm or inward state• Rethinking Barabbas as an insurrectionist rather than a mere robberThe quote in our introduction is from Chapter IV of Penn's No Cross, No  Crown.A complete list of our podcasts,  organized into topics, is available on our website. John 17:20-26We read The Gospel of John in Greek and sit with Jesus' prayer that believers share a living unity that convinces the world. We trace how words like logos, doxa, and onoma point past outward religion toward inward immersion in the Spirit, then we pivot into John 18 and the roots of the Quaker peace testimony. • Reading and translating John 17:20-26 with attention to Greek grammar • Logos as proclaimed witness that carries spiritual power • Unity as mutual indwelling in the Spirit rather than an outward agreement • Doxa as glory, honor, and the manifested presence of God • “Made perfect” as maturity and completion in spiritual awareness • “Name” as character, essence, and what God is like • Baptism as immersion into God's life, not a debate about water • Quaker rejection of original sin as a later doctrine • Kingdom as an inward state, not a physical realm • John 18's arrest scene and the significance of “I am he” • “Put your sword back” and the historic peace witness of early Christians and Friends • Constantine, just war thinking, and how the church's stance on violence changed The quote in our introduction was taken from parts of George Fox's 56 Epistle.A complete list of our podcasts,  organized into topics, is available on our website. Rape gangs, Post Office and Scottish self-ID: an anatomy of three scandals

Academy of Ideas

A debate recorded at the Battle of Ideas festival at Church House, Westminster on Saturday 18 October 2025. ORIGINAL FESTIVAL INTRODUCTION In recent years, Britain has been rocked by several scandals where the public has been kept in the dark. Politicians and the authorities have indulged in obfuscation, denial, cover-ups and even possible collusion – all to avoid accountability or admit responsibility.  As with previous scandals, it's often been grassroots campaigners, victims' groups and courageous journalists who have brought these issues to public attention. What was it like being a key player on the frontline of history in three of these recent scandals: rape gangs, the Post Office miscarriages of justice and gender self-ID in Scotland?  Journalists Charlie Peters and Nick Wallis, and Susan Smith from campaign group For Women Scotland, tell their stories of activism, investigation and holding truth to power. GB News reporter Charlie Peters, presenter of the 2023 documentary, Grooming Gangs: Britain's Shame, has called it ‘the worst race-hate scandal and abuse scandal since the Second World War'.  Meanwhile, Conservative MP Nick Timothy, writing in response to Sir Keir Starmer's announcement that he would – at last – commission a national inquiry on the back of recommendations in Baroness Casey's National Audit on Group-based Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (2025), stated: ‘Rape gangs are the biggest scandal of our generation.' The Post Office Horizon IT scandal stands out as another one of the UK's most significant miscarriages of justice. Faulty accounting software developed by Fujitsu led to the Post Office prosecuting over 900 subpostmasters for theft, fraud or false accounting, resulting in wrongful convictions, bankruptcies, imprisonments and even suicides. Nick Wallis, a freelance journalist, broadcaster and author, has been one of the leading figures in exposing and chronicling the scandal. For Women Scotland (FWS) is a women's rights advocacy group that was set up in 2018 to oppose the SNP's attempts to force gender self-identification through Holyrood. Even when the Gender Recognition Reform Bill was blocked by the Tory UK government, the then first minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, continued to defend the policy.  In a car-crash press conference, she famously refused to say whether double-rapist Adam Graham/Isla Bryson, who was initially sent to a female jail, was a man or a woman. The scandal caused a huge public outcry and has been partially blamed for Sturgeon's sudden resignation a few months later. The furore also forged For Women Scotland into a formidable campaign group that eventually won a famous victory in clarifying equality law at the Supreme Court. These scandals are only three of the many that have shocked our nation, alongside the Grenfell Tower fire, the Hillsborough tragedy, the infected-blood scandal and more.  Are such scandals simply a feature of modern Britain? Do they, as many argue, implicate the state itself as negligent, incompetent and mired in the tendency to cover-up and collude? What can we learn from these brave journalists and campaigners who have stood at the frontline, challenged politicians and the authorities, and held them to account? SPEAKERS Charlie Peters GB News national reporter Susan Smith co-director, For Women Scotland; director, Beira's Place; contributor, The Women Who Wouldn't Wheesht Nick Wallis journalist, presenter, BBC Radio 4 series The Great Post Office Trial CHAIR Claire Fox director, Academy of Ideas; independent peer, House of Lords; author, I STILL Find That Offensive!

Earlier this week, you heard the facts about Susan Smith. You heard about the burgundy Mazda rolling into John D. Long Lake. You heard about Michael and Alex. But this episode goes deeper into the details that didn't make the nightly news.We start with Susan's father Harry, who shot himself in the driveway when Susan was six years old, just hours after telling her he loved her. We examine the arrival of stepfather Beverly Russell, a pillar of the community, a Christian Coalition leader, and a predator who began sexually abusing Susan when she was fifteen and continued until just weeks before the murders. We reveal that Susan's mother Linda knew about the abuse and chose to stay with Beverly anyway. We uncover Susan's suicide attempt at eighteen, when she reported the abuse to hospital staff and was sent back into the same home with almost no follow-up care. We trace her troubled marriage to David Smith, the affairs on both sides, and the pressure cooker of her relationship with Tom Findlay, the wealthy man's son who told her explicitly that her children were the obstacle to their future together. We break down the night of October twenty fifth, including the desperate phone calls Susan made searching for Tom, and the fact that she had visited that same boat ramp the night before. We examine the six minutes the car floated while Susan stood on the shore. We expose the lie about the traffic light at Monarch Mills, a sensor-activated light that couldn't have been red without another car present to trigger it.We explore the nine days of deception, Susan's bizarre behavior at parties, her continued calls to Tom Findlay, and the question she asked a reporter that revealed everything: "Did I come across as believable?"We cover Beverly Russell's extraordinary courtroom testimony admitting to years of abuse, and the jury's controversial decision to spare Susan's life. This is the full story. The uncomfortable truths. The redacted details that help explain, though never excuse, how a mother could do the unthinkable.

On the night of October 25, 1994, Susan Smith stood on a boat ramp at John D. Long Lake in Union, South Carolina, and made a choice that would horrify the nation. She released the emergency brake on her burgundy Mazda Protégé and watched it roll into the dark water with her two sons still strapped in their car seats.Three-year-old Michael and fourteen-month-old Alex drowned in that lake while their mother ran to a nearby house and told a lie that would captivate America for nine days. Susan claimed a Black man had carjacked her at gunpoint and driven away with her children. She wept on national television, clutched her estranged husband David's hand, and begged for the safe return of her boys. The whole country searched for a phantom kidnapper while Michael and Alex lay dead at the bottom of that lake, one hundred and twenty-two feet from shore. In this episode, we trace Susan Smith's troubled life from the beginning. Her father Harry Vaughan killed himself when she was just six years old, leaving wounds that never healed. Her stepfather Beverly Russell, a prominent Republican and Christian Coalition member, began molesting her when she was fifteen and continued a sexual relationship with her into adulthood. Susan attempted suicide at thirteen and again at seventeen. She married David Smith at nineteen, already pregnant, and their marriage was plagued by mutual infidelity from the start. When Susan set her sights on Tom Findlay, the wealthy son of her boss at Conso Products, she believed he was her ticket to a better life. But Tom sent her a Dear John letter just eight days before the murders, telling her that while she had many good qualities, he did not want children. In Susan's fractured mind, her boys became obstacles to the happiness she craved. We examine the investigation that unraveled Susan's lies, from the traffic light that could not have turned red at an empty intersection to the polygraph that showed the highest level of deception when she was asked if she knew where her children were. We cover Sheriff Howard Wells obtaining her confession at a local church, the recovery of the boys' bodies with one small hand pressed against the car window, and the trial that exposed every dark corner of Susan's life. The jury convicted her in just two and a half hours but ultimately spared her from the death penalty. She was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after thirty years. Her time behind bars has been marked by affairs with prison guards, drug use, and self-mutilation. In November 2024, she faced her first parole hearing, where David Smith appeared wearing his sons' photograph and pleaded with the board to keep her locked up. They unanimously denied her release. This is the story of Michael and Alex, two innocent boys who deserved so much better than the fate their mother chose for them. And it is a story that still haunts America more than thirty years later.

In October 1994, a young mother in Union, South Carolina, told police that a stranger had carjacked her vehicle and driven away with her two small children still strapped in their car seats. For nine days, the case dominated national news as law enforcement searched roads, lakes, and backcountry while the public watched her tearful pleas for the boys' return. As the investigation unfolded, however, detectives began to find that the story at the center of the search did not align with the evidence they were quietly collecting. It seemed like the one who really knew where the boys were, was someone much closer to them. Our other podcast: "FEARFUL" - https://open.spotify.com/show/56ajNkLiPoIat1V2KI9n5c?si=OyM38rdsSSyyzKAFUJpSywMERCH:https://www.redbubble.com/people/wickedandgrim/shop?asc=uPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/wickedandgrim?fan_landing=trueYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/@wickedlifeFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/wickedandgrim/ Instagram:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wickedandgrim/?hl=enTwitter: https://twitter.com/wickedandgrimWebsite: https://www.wickedandgrim.com/

** Importantly, this broadcast aired live on October 21st. George Stinney was born on October 21, 1929. He was convicted of killing two South Carolina White girls and executed at the age of 14. He could not fit in the electric chair. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Admitted Racist Blanche Boyd. A White Woman born in South Carolina, Boyd did a 1982 interview with legendary journalist Tony Brown where she Admitted to being a Racist. Over the past 4 decades, Boyd has continued to write about what it means to be classified as White and the many ways people like she continue to terrorize non-white people. Gus found Ms. Boyd's work while the Katherine Massey Book Club investigated South Carolina Race Soldier and convicted killer Susan Smith. Boyd was paid to cover the court proceedings in Union, SC and wrote her observations in the Village Voice and other outlets. We'll discuss why she felt the need to cape for a Racist, lying, child-killing White Woman. Importantly, Boyd claimed to be ignorant about Smith drowning her two White children along with wedding gown and wedding photo album. This bit of evidence strongly suggests that Smith plotted to kill her children while erasing her entire life connected to her husband, David. If Boyd traveled to South Carolina to cover this 1995 case, it is a colossal indictment of her incompetence and slipshod journalism if she missed this detail. Omitting this importance evidence is mandatory to fabricate the idea sympathy that Susan Smith was a "victim" and didn't deserve the death penalty. #EndStageWhiteSupremacy INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: http://cash.app/$TheCOWS Call: 720.716.7300 Code: 564943#

Last week, we learned that Susan Smith and her on-again-off-again partner David made pretty good money and could afford a nice house in an exclusive region of Union, South Carolina. In spite of it all, David and Susan maintained a tacky, trashy arrangement where they each engaged in sexual intercourse with other partners. As soon as Smith concocted her lie about the carjacking, kidnapping black dude, people using logic began to question her testimony. Before being photographed by police, Smith asked the officer if she should remove her glasses. The officer wondered how in the world she could be concerned about her appearance when her two children had just been stolen. Similar to child raping Mary Kay Letourneau, readers are informed that Susan is pretty and perfect and could have been a model, although she's a bit frail. It took Gus some time to remember that we have already read about White Women drowning their own children in a vehicle. #DevonteHart #FamilyAnnihilator INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: http://cash.app/$TheCOWS Call: 720.716.7300 Code: 564943#

On April 16, the UK Supreme Court handed down a judgement determining that the terms “man," “woman,” and “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 refer to biological sex (not gender identity). After years of fighting for the return of women's sex-based rights, the group For Women Scotland succeeded in winning their case brought against the Scottish Ministers. Going forward, a man identifying as a “woman” or a “transwoman,” even with a gender recognition certificate (GRC), will not be considered female under UK law, and therefore will not be permitted into women-only spaces such as bathrooms, prisons, change rooms, and shelters.Meghan Murphy speaks with Susan Smith, a founder of For Women Scotland, about the group, their fight, and what this win means for women in the UK.The Same Drugs is on X @thesamedrugs_. Trans women should use toilets according to their biological sex, according to the equalities minister Bridget Phillipson, this is in response to the UK Supreme Court's ruling a week ago on the legal definition of a woman. The Prime Minister Keir Starmer has welcomed the decision, saying it provides much needed clarity, and his office has confirmed that the Prime Minister no longer believes trans women are women. There have been protests against the decision, with critics saying it is incredibly worrying for the trans community. The ruling followed a long-running legal battle between the Scottish Government and the campaign group For Women Scotland. Susan Smith, one of the directors, gives her reflections on the outcome, a week on. The historian Tiffany Watt Smith traces the evolution and messy realities of female friendship across the past century in her new book Bad Friend. Tiffany talks to Clare about bad friends through history: the romantic school girls of the 1900s; office gossips; mum cliques; angry activists; and the coven – women who choose to live together in old age – to the present day. The former lioness Eni Aluko had a hugely successful career as a player making over 100 appearances for England. Since then she's gone on to have an equally successful career as a pundit, becoming the first woman to appear on Match of the Day in 2014. Earlier this month her name was in the headlines following the outcome of a civil court hearing involving the ex-footballer Joey Barton. In the first stage of a High Court libel case the Judge found that online posts made by Joey Barton about Eni and her family were "defamatory". Mr Barton is yet to respond, and can appeal, or defend the statements if the case proceeds to trial. In a separate criminal case involving both parties Joey Barton has pleaded not guilty to allegedly posting offensive comments on social media. An Army of Women is a documentary that follows a group of women in Austin, Texas who took on the legal systems that they feel let their rapists walk free – specifically by filing lawsuits against the police department in Austin and the district attorney's office in Travis County, which prosecutes cases for the county. Those suits were settled in 2021 and 2022. The documentary debuted at the South by Southwest Festival last year, and is being released here in the UK from this Friday. Clare speaks to documentary director Julie Lunde Lillesæter and Hanna Senko, who was the lead plaintiff in one of those lawsuits.Presented by Clare McDonnell Producer: Louise Corley

A new report from the New York Times alleges “federal investigators established a trail of payments from Matt Gaetz,” President-elect Trump's pick for attorney general, “to women including some who testified that Mr. Gaetz hired them for sex.” According to the Times, the chart they obtained ”shows a web of thousands of dollars in Venmo payments between Mr. Gaetz and a group of his friends, associates, and women who had drug-fueled sex parties between 2017 and 2020.” Gaetz denies any wrongdoing since these allegations surfaced. The report comes after Republicans on the House Ethics Committee blocked the release of a report on the former Florida congressman. Kaitlan Collins is near Mar-a-lago with how this new report could further complicate Gaetz's nomination. Plus, 30 years after Susan Smith drowned her two children and blamed it on a black carjacker, she is up for parole.
