In this episode Chris from Vanished podcast breaks down the enduring historical mystery of what exactly happened to Fred Noonan & Amelia Earhart. They would disappear on July 2nd 1937, with Amelia's last words over radio transition being panicked ....the last phrase uttered being 'wait'. We have done just that in the over 80 years that have passed by. Chris takes us through who these people were, the facts of the case, as well as theories new and old & then ranks them in order of what he believes to be the most plausible explanation as to what happened to Fred & Amelia. In this episode Robin again joins me for another passion case of his previously covered on the trail went cold (his original description and sources are below). Robin takes me through all the twists and turns of a case that clearly illustrates just how many ways the system can get it wrong and the difficulty one faces in righting those wrongs. Support the show: Patreon.com/julesandashleyNovember 1, 2001. Columbia, Missouri. Kent Heitholt, a 48-year old sports editor for the Columbia Daily Tribune, is severely beaten and strangled to death in their parking lot. Two-and-a-half years later, investigators are led towards a young suspect named Charles Erickson, who has told people he had vivid dreams of himself and his friend, Ryan Ferguson, murdering Kent after leaving a nearby bar that night. After Charles confesses to the crime, both he and Ryan are charged with Kent's murder and Charles' testimony helps convict Ryan and send him to prison for 40 years. However, after Charles and another key witness recant their testimony, Ryan's conviction is vacated and he is released from prison in 2013. Even though many feel that Charles is also innocent of the crime, he continues to remain incarcerated. If Ryan Ferguson and Charles Erickson did not murder Kent Heitholt, then who did? In this very personal episode I speak to Morgan's parents Steve and Renee about who their daughter was, who she likely would have become and the mysterious circumstances surrounding her death. Nothing is what it seems and unfortunately you will have more questions than answers.
In this week's episode Elyse from the True Crime Cat Lawyer podcast breaks down the death of Bill Mowbray, who was shot in the head as he slept in 1987 while his wife Susie lay beside him. Strange inconsistencies would crop up early such as Susie's pristine white nightgown, marital strife, a lack of GSR & blood on Bill's right hand and a 1.8 million dollar life insurance policy. Susie would be convicted of his murder in 1988 but the story definitely doesn't end there. In this episode we go through the potential crime, the scene and the inconsistencies and in the next episode we will get into the legal wrangling that took place. In this episode Lynette, a former prosecutor breaks down complex case of Anthony Sowell who was convicted in 2011 of murdering 11 women. Anthony was born into trauma & in an environment of abuse where at a young age the merging of sex and violence became apparent in the torture he watched inflicted on female family members. Anthony would soon begin to rape one of these family members and his abuses and predatory behavior towards women would escalate from there. This story involves body decaying in the home, a sausage shop that's blamed for the stench and a man who gaslights an entire community whilst targeting those women who are often neglected by society due to sex work & drug addiction. Cape Coral, FL, on June 19, 2020. Her disappearance has baffled her family, friends, and even the police investigating her case. When Lauren's belongings mysteriously begin appearing in a nearby park, the investigation is escalated, and the community rallies to search for this beautiful missing woman. But certain people close to Lauren are keeping their distance...the question is: why? Someone knows something; someone is COMPLICIT.
On this episode Robin & I dig into the disappearance of Bryce Laspisa. This is a really puzzling case from 2013 where Bryce begins to exhibit some strange and erratic behaviors, as well as drinking too much and using the prescription drug Vyvanse to stay up all night and play video games. Bryce attempts to give away some of his most meaningful possessions before mysteriously becoming stranded in Buttonwillow, California. Bryce resists driving the few hours to his parents and is confronted by the police at one point and the man who initially brought him his gasoline, at the behest of his parents. Bryce would eventually crash his car, in what was determined to be a purposeful crash that involved acceleration. A later search of the area would turn up no Bryce, his scent was lost at a truck stop, leading many to believe he hitched a ride. What happened to Bryce? Robin and I attempt to parse through the evidence and the theories. On this episode I speak with Charlie from Crimelines for her aftershow. We focus primarily on a case I covered early on out of the UK: The disappearance of Claudia Lawrence in 2009. Claudia was a chef at the University of York, she was 35 years old at the time of her disappearance and had an active social life with plenty of friends. Claudia's personal life would be seized upon by the British press when it appeared that she had carried on relationships with married men, judgement from the public followed and then a general sense of disengagement in finding her. Her father always maintained that these accusations were blown out of proportion. We discuss if they are even relevant and if police made a major misstep in choosing the words that they did. In this episode I discuss a famous 2008 case out of Florida with Kevin from the Jury Room that is unique, in that the general consensus is that Casey Anthony got away with Murder or at the very least Manslaughter or neglect in the death of her 2 year old daughter Caylee. In the next couple of weeks I am going to be discussing this case with Kevin from the Jury Room, so if you want some extensive background please give this episode, as well as part two a listen. In Orlando 2008 little three year old Caylee Anthony's life would be taken from her, despite the fact that Casey Anthony walks free and was determined to be 'not-guilty' by a jury after a 6 week trial, many still believe it's obvious who responsible for the death of Caylee and she somehow has gotten away with murder. This case has complex family dynamics and a pattern of pathological mistruths by Casey. The Jury Room: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/the-jury-room/id1536341829https://open.spotify.com/show/7MkqM6AeRWrgM1pzoAVKlAhttps://music.amazon.ca/podcasts/e755bcb0-768e-4f79-beb4-efd5e6ec38b6/the-jury-room_z_-c_c_580362593892_g_107369001810@juryroompodcast on Twitter

Check out one of my favorite podcasts from one of my favorite creators, Eliza. This week's case takes place in a county near Eliza's childhood home. On August 15, 2002, the bodies of 50-year-old Michael Short and 36-year-old Mary Short were found in their southern Virginia home. Each had been shot in the head once while sleeping. However, missing from the scene entirely was the couple's 9-year-old daughter, Jennifer. Why would someone kill Michael and Mary and where's Jennifer? In this episode I talk to former Forensic Psychologist Kate about a case that has captivated me for a very long time...it's sort of a hometown case for Kate, in that she went to University in upstate NY, so she knows lots of details. Suzanne Lyall would disappear in the infancy of the internet age on March 2, 1998. Suzanne was very gifted with computers from a young age and there will be multiple threads that tie in to the burgeoning technology of the day and her boyfriend at the time Richard Condon. Was this someone close to Suzie? or was this an opportunistic stranger abduction? In this episode Robin Warder, my co-host from the Path Went Chilly, as well as the host of the Trail Went Cold tells Jeff from Indie Podcaster and I about the Circleville letters. Along the way we question the popular theories as to who the letter writer or letter writers may be. Support the show: patreon.com/julesandashleyHere is Robin's original Trail Went Cold description of the show/sources: August 19, 1977. Circleville, Ohio. After receiving a phone call, an angry Ron Gillispie frantically drives away from his home and dies after crashing into a tree. For the past several months, Ron's wife, Mary Gillispie, had been receiving anonymous threatening letters expressing anger about her alleged affair with another man. In total, over a thousand anonymous letters would be sent to residents of the area during this time period. Five-and-a-half years later, Mary would find a homemade booby trap containing a gun belonging to Ron's former brother-in-law, Paul Freshour. Paul is accused of being the author of the anonymous letters and spends ten years in prison for Mary's attempted murder, but the threatening letters continue to be sent while Paul is incarcerated. Was Paul Freshour the mysterious “Circleville Writer” or was he framed and wrongly imprisoned? For our special two-year anniversary show of “The Trail Went Cold”, we will be chronicling a case which was voted on by our listeners: the bizarre saga of “The Circleville Letters”. Special thanks to listener Jamie Sciullo for narrating the opening of this episode, and Tyler from “The Minds of Madness” podcast for providing the voice of the Circleville Writer. Also, a big thanks to Esther Gamez for providing us with another terrific piece of cover art for this episode. I HIGHLY recommend you check out this podcast from one of my nearest and dearest Ashley & her co-host Cam. If you love Cults...this is literally your new favorite podcast. TSFU the Podcast is a true crime comedy podcast about cults, murder and other generally horrific stuff. TSFU hosts Ashley and Cam tell enthralling stories, using comedy and thorough research to explore what inspires people to do the awful things they do. Nature? Nurture? Society? Let's investigate from our couches together... while we play murder bingo! TSFU Ep. 71- The Family.mp3This week the gals talk about notoriously brutal Australian cult, The Family. Jeepers Creepers!Ash dives into the life of Anne Hamilton-Byrne, and how she eventually became the leader of a yoga/LSD/baby-napping/Children of the Corn cult. Born Evelyn Edwards, Anne grew up poor and spent time in orphanages in rich neighborhoods as a child. Seeing how the upperclass lived, she always knew that she wanted a piece of the pie. When Evelyn's first husband died, she reinvented herself as a glamorous yoga teacher and medium named Anne Hamilton. Preaching a mishmash of Christianity, Eastern mysticism and apocalyptic prophecy, she convinced hundreds that she was Jesus, using large quantities of LSD on her members and herself. One day she had a vision that the world was going to end in some horrific way and that she needed to start a master race of children who would be left to re-educate what's left of the world. So she basically began stealing babies and made them all look alike, with the same clothes, haircuts and bleached blonde hair. Likely going for a Von Trapp family vibe, she gave them more of a Children of the Corn look. And things only get more insane and tragic from there.... it's not just yoga you guys!!Play the new and improved version of "Cult Bingo" with us for a chance to win a FREE month of Patreon! In part two of my discussion with Kristen Seavy from the Murder She Told Podcast we talk the disappearance and eventual discovery of the remains of her childhood friend Danielle Bertolini, as well as the Humboldt Five. Detailed description below. Description of original episode on Murder She Told: My childhood friend's disappearanceThe story that I have for you this week is the story of my childhood friend, Danielle Bertolini. She and I grew up together in my small hometown of Newport, Maine (population 3,200). We were friends and classmates in elementary and junior high, and I fondly remember her unapologetic and spunky personality. At 23 years old, in 2014, she went missing in Fortuna, California in Humboldt County.Today, she is known as one of the Humboldt County Missing Five. Danielle's mother's heartrending interviewFor years I followed her case on Facebook through the family's updates, seeing and sharing their pain. This is a story that's been in my heart for a long time, but I just didn't know how to tell right. But when I reached out to Danielle's mother, to talk to me, on the record, about her daughter's tragic disappearance and death, she agreed. We sat down at my dining room table, and we had a surprisingly intimate and tough conversation about Danielle's life, and her death. The majesty of the redwoods and the darkness that lurks withinDanielle moved across the country to a beautiful area called Humboldt county, home of some of the tallest trees in the world, the giant redwoods. The beauty of the trees is juxtaposed by the ugliness of the crime and the proliferation of drugs in the area.Alder Point, California, a small town in Humboldt County, is flanked by a famous peak dubbed “Murder Mountain” where many have gone missing and many have died. Murder Mountain initially got it's nickname after serial killer couple Michael Bear Carson and Suzan Carson hid out there after murdering 26-year-old Clark Stephens in 1982, seeking refuge in the trees while police tried to nab the perpetrator of their crimes. But it stuck because of the sheer number of people who disappear and are found murdered in Humboldt County.Drugs, lies, murder, and a search for justiceDanielle's life was transformed by the loss of her son Xavier. She left behind her life in Maine, where she had constant reminders of her trauma, and went to find a fresh start in California amidst the redwoods. But California wasn't the answer she was looking for, and Danielle fell into the wrong crowd and was using heavily. Before her disappearance, she trapped and trying to find a way out.One year later, a human skull is found washed up on the bank of the Eel River, and is ultimately identified as Danielle's.Join the fight! A petition to prioritize this caseI have started a petition on change.org to dial up the pressure on this case. Danielle isn't the only person to go missing under the same circumstances. There is a person of interest and there is evidence. Justice is so close. Help the family get the closure that they deserve.SIGN THE PETITIONhttps://www.change.org/p/humboldt-county-district-attorney-justice-for-danielle-bertolini-and-sheila-franks?utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=custom_url&recruited_by_id=5b2baae0-2626-11e6-b7a5-3be3a030e21aA very special thanks to Billie Jo Dick for sharing her daughter's life story and memories with me.If you're holding onto any information or think you might know something about the murders of Danielle Bertolini and Sheila Franks, I urge you to submit a tip to the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office Anonymous Tip Line at (707) 268-2539.Connect on Instagram (@MurderSheToldPodcast) for photos from this episode and more.Murder She Told Danielle Bertolini Pt One: https://www.murdershetold.com/episodes/danielle-bertoliniDanielle Bertolini Part Two ft. Today I am talking with Maine native Kristen Seavy, who is an actress and a True Crime podcaster, the host of Murder She Told about her hometown Serial Killer James Rodney Hicks. Kristen covered this story on the first two episodes of her podcast, which I will link below. Support the show: Patreon.com/JulesandashleyHere is Kristen's original episode description from murdershetold.com She entered The Gateway looking for love, and instead, she found him…It's October 16th, 1982, in my hometown of Newport, Maine. But this is before my time. Jerilyn Towers goes to a local bar, The Gateway Lounge, for a drink... and never comes back. The bartender who was working that night said she remembered seeing Jerilyn there. And she wasn't alone. She was approached by a man named James Hicks who flattered her and bought her drinks all night. They seemed to be laughing and having a great time. Around 1am, they left together. Newport Police Chief Jim Ricker goes to question Hicks, and he quickly realizes that Jerilyn may not be the only person who was last seen with this man, and that they both might not actually be missing... He learns that in 1977, Jennie Cyr, the former wife of James Hicks just... disappeared. She “ran off with a lover,” claimed Hicks. Ricker calls up the Cyr family, and they all have the same story: Jennie didn't run off. Jennie was dead. And they knew exactly who was responsible...This is the story of James Hicks, the serial killer next door that you've never heard of, and the most sensational trial in Maine State history.Part One of The Deadly Web of James Hicks is available now on Murder, She Told wherever you get your favorite podcasts. In this episode we discuss Lauren's podcast 'Murder in Illinois' and the highly polarizing case of Christopher Vaughn. We attempt to unravel exactly what Lauren did in her podcast....did Christopher kill his wife Kimberly and his three children? or was Kimberly a better suspect based on forensic (ballistics, blood evidence, crime scene recreation etc) and circumstantial evidence w/ regards to Kimberly's behavior leading up to the crime as witnessed by her daughter, as well as the medication she was taking and how she herself had seen a shift in her personality. Please, please go and listen to Murder In Illinois and draw your own conclusions, these opinions are my own and the opinions of Lauren on the case and they may be far removed from the conclusions you draw based on the evidence. We will also dive into how Lauren managed to cope with the social media attacks due to the delicate nature and fixed narrative surrounding this case. Lauren will also share her television producer background where she has worked for two of the most famous t.v. Doctors Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz. Homicide Highway is a True Crime podcast hosted by Harley Newell and Lacy Wilkinson. We are two friends who met because of our love for true crime. We cover and analyze cases down to the last gory detail. No case is off limits for us to discuss, no matter how much we may disagree on the circumstances or the outcome.Billy Milligan was 5 years old when he was sodomized and buried alive by his step father. This trauma, along with his father completing suicide was the trauma that led to his personalities to splinter into others. What happens when one of your personalities decides to be a violent rapist? Well not good things. The victims in this story were also pushed to the side with the media frenzy that took over once the diagnoses came out that this man had 24 personalities living in his head.
In this episode Robin tells me all about one of his pet cases, the West Memphis Three. We explore the suspects, the documentaries, the legal issues up until present day. Support the show: Patreon.com/julesandashleyArt: @fleshwadYT fleshwadyt@gmail.comMusic: Jobbers

We will dive into the muck with these twisted killers with a little humor to lighten the mood. *Trigger Warning: extreme sexual violence and rape in this episode* Paul Bernardo was a sociopathic rapist to his core. In this episode I talk to my 'The Path Went Chilly' co-host Robin about a case he recently covered that I will link below & that's the disappearance of Susan Walsh. Robin's episode description is also below. We also speak extensively on 6 year old JonBenet Ramsey who was murdered in her home in 1996. Robin and I go into the note and speak about some of the suspects and if we think it's possible the Ramsey's were responsible. https://www.trailwentcold.com/2021/10/20/the-trail-went-cold-episode-248-susan-walsh/July 16, 1996. Nutley, New Jersey. 36-year old Susan Walsh leaves her son in the care of her estranged husband and says she needs to step out to make some phone calls, but she never returns to her apartment and is not heard from again. At the time, Susan had been working as a freelance journalist and an exotic dancer, but was also struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues. The investigation into Susan's disappearance explores a number of different angles – including Russian mobsters, underground vampire clubs, and an obsessive stalker – and even looks into the possibility that she ran away voluntarily, but there are no conclusive answers. On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we cover a perplexing missing persons case which has remained unsolved for the past 25 years.Additional Reading:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_Walsh_(missing_person)http://unsolved.com/gallery/susan-walshhttps://charleyproject.org/case/susan-walshhttp://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/12/07/grace.coldcase.walsh/index.htmlhttps://nypost.com/2006/07/16/96-stripper-vanish-clue/http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/missing-presumed-undead-1361187.htmlhttps://www.thisamericanlife.org/55/transcripthttps://www.newspapers.com/image/499180925/https://www.newspapers.com/image/504730820/https://www.newspapers.com/image/504730887/https://www.newspapers.com/image/697534130/https://www.newspapers.com/image/697534106JonBenet Ramsey sources from the episode: https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-lists/who-killed-jonbenet-ramsey-8-possible-suspects-129125/https://www.bustle.com/articles/184279-what-dna-evidence-was-there-in-the-jonbenet-ramsey-case-its-a-controversial-aspecthttp://jonbenetramsey.pbworks.com/w/page/11682518/The%20Ransom%20Note

In this episode Charlie and I delve into how it's necessary to have a holistic picture of the victim in order to understand the crime. We also discuss victim blaming with regards to high risk lifestyles and how that may affect the family members. We also get into trauma and mental health, as we discuss some of our own experiences.
In this interview we get to know Charlie a little better, understand her process of being a successful True Crime Creator and how she balances all of the many balls she currently has in the air. (part 2/2) In this two part series Robin & I will discuss the case of Leah Roberts (Which he has covered previously on the TWC) with Julie Murray and we will explore the parallels at length to Julie's missing sister Maura Murray. March 18, 2000. Whatcom County, Washington. A damaged Jeep belonging to 23-year old Leah Roberts is found at the bottom of an embankment next to a remote highway. Nine days earlier, Leah had left her home in North Carolina to take a cross-country road trip, but even though all of her personal possessions are left behind at the accident scene, Leah herself is missing. The investigation eventually uncovers evidence to suggest that the accident might have been staged and the Jeep was unoccupied when it went down the embankment. Further complications are also caused by strange anonymous phone call, as well as a reported eyewitness sighting of Leah with an unidentified man at a shopping mall restaurant.
