In the early morning hours of June 6, 1996, a frantic 911 call came in from a quiet neighborhood in Rowlett, Texas. On the line was 26-year-old Darlie Routier, who said she and her sons had been stabbed by an intruder while they slept in the downstairs family room. When first responders arrived, they found a horrific scene—six-year-old Devon and five-year-old Damon lying on the floor with multiple stab wounds, while Darlie was walking around, bleeding from several knife injuries of her own. As officers cleared the house and paramedics worked to save the victims, Darlie repeated the same story: a man in dark clothing had come into the family room, stabbed her and her children, then fled through the garage—leaving the knife behind. But as investigators began to process the scene and piece together what had unfolded in the Routier home, a new set of questions emerged—about Darlie's version of events, the physical evidence, and what she did—and didn't do—after the attack. Send us a textIn this episode we journey to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Palm Desert to have a conversation with two young Catholics on fire with the faith. Genevieve Knight is a 28 year old cradle Catholic born and raised in Rancho Mirage, CA. Though she came from a Catholic background, it was not until the age of 21, while in her third year of college, she experienced a ‘simple, yet deeply profound' encounter with Christ which changed the trajectory of her spiritual life forever. Genevieve shares her story with This Connected not only as a young adult on fire for the Truth, beauty, and goodness of the Catholic faith, but as one who seeks to be a witness to every person searching for the story God is constantly writing upon his and her heart.Brian Ruberg is a 22-year old adult convert to Catholicism. Born on Rowlett, Texas and raised in La Quinta, California, Brian was brought up as a Non-denominational Protestant Christian but saw little value in his religion despite never abandoning it. After a search for meaning and purpose through various outlets such as philosophy and the straight-edge punk movement, he became involved in the online political scene where he met many like-minded young men, many of whom were Catholic. Already experiencing gradual growth in Christ, he became curious and fascinated with the Church and its reverence and tradition, attending his first mass in Latin. Over the next three years, he began to grow in the faith and fall in love with the sacraments, eventually becoming fully initiated into the Catholic faith on December 21st, 2024. Brian now works with his parish's Young Adults Fellowship and maintains many friendships within the Church community and continues to grow and help other incoming Catholics grow their faith.Remember to like, subscribe, and recommend to a friend. Age is just a number, especially when you're setting world records! At a wedding in Rowlett, Texas, instead of a little flower girl, they had 94-year-old Dottie Davis walking down the aisle.Dottie, who lives at a senior home, decided to go for the world record as the oldest flower girl. Decked out with a sash that read "Queen of Flowers," she scattered rose petals from her walker, which was all wrapped up in holly and berries for the winter theme. Watching Dottie do her thing, I couldn't help but think, that's exactly how I want to be at 94!

This week, Drewby and Yergy head back down to Texas to discuss the Lonestar State's more notorious whodunnit, and that's the murder of Devon and Damon Routier. The boys lived in Rowlett, and affluent suburb of Dallas, with their parents, Darin and Darlie, and their younger brother, Drake. The family seemed to have everything, but underneath the façade, things had started to crumble financially, leading to tension in the home. On June 6, 1996, and intruder allegedly broke into the Routier home and stabbed Devon and Damon, killing them. Their mother, Darlie, was also injured during the attack. But soon, much like the family's financial situation, Darlie's story started to crumble... Paula Marie Threadgill, 57, took her first breath in Heaven on April 30th in her home surrounded by her family after a hard-fought and valiant battle with cancer. Her celebration of life will be Saturday, May 4th at 10:00am at Meadowbrook Baptist Church with Rev. Cary Killough officiating. Please do not feel bad if you are late, as she probably will be as well. The family invites you to visit with them immediately following the service.Paula was born on November 15, 1966, in Longview, Texas to Wayne and Alice Thrasher. Her family relocated to Robinson when she was 7, where she was a 1985 Robinson High School graduate and resided until her death. Immediately after high school, she started her lifelong trade as a hairdresser. She would tell you that she never had to work a day in her life because she truly loved what she did. And throughout the years, her customers turned into family. Paula married Gaylon Threadgill on March 7, 2003, and up until he departed this life in 2022, they filled their years together with adventures, love, and grandkids. Paula was the one who always had an open door and a chair at her table for you. No matter where you had been, or where you were going, she welcomed you. She left a lasting impression on so many people with her compassionate spirit, love for life, and willingness to help anyone out. You could often find Paula at the beach, specifically Access Rd 1-A in Port Aransas. If she wasn't working, at the beach, or with her family, she loved baking and crafting. She crocheted many blankets for loved ones and enjoyed making cakes and decorating sugar cookies. Acts of service is how she often expressed her love.Paula was preceded in her death by her parents, Wayne and Alice Thrasher, her sister, Glenda Sue Jones, and her husband, Gaylon Threadgill. Left with the void of her absence is her sister, Cindy Thrasher, of Hainesville, and Natasha Thrasher, of Carlsbad, New Mexico; daughters Myla Welch (Brian Welch) of Rowlett, Zoey Threadgill of Robinson, Tammy Daniel (Krag Daniel) of Cleburne, and Ashley Dixon (Lance Dixon) of Charlotte, North Carolina; her favorite people in the world, her grandkids, Jack, Rowan, and Eleanor Welch, Colton and Jaygen Wells, Wyatt Daniel, Taylor and Garrett Dixon; great grandkids Travis and Waylon Wells. She also leaves behind many other beloved family members- some blood and some not.The family would like to thank Gentle Transitions Hospice for the incredible care provided to Paula by her dear friend, Rhonda. We also want to say how grateful we are to MD Anderson for their exemplary medical staff and the treatment Paula received, that no doubt gave us extra time with her. In the end, Paula expressed on many occasions how loved she felt. She was incredibly blessed and in awe of how many people were there fighting this battle with her. She said that some people never experienced the kind of love she had before they died, but she was so grateful to have been able to. So, thank you, for showing up and for meeting her needs and making her feel so loved. We are especially thankful to her church family at Meadowbrook Baptist Church. They have carried our family through some tough times and have shown time and time again they are truly the hands and feet of Jesus. We ask that any flowers in her memory be sent to Grace Gardens or in lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to MD Anderson at the website listed below. https://mdanderson.donordrive.com/campaign/paulathreadgill

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Moral Trade Proposal with 95-100% Surplus, published by Pete Rowlett on February 21, 2024 on The Effective Altruism Forum. Introduction This post is a continuation of my earlier " Modeling Moral Trade in Antibiotic Resistance and Alternative Proteins," " Generating More Surplus in Moral Trades," and " Developing Counterfactual Trust in Moral Trade." Here I'll make a proposal for a specific moral trade, and then I'll provide a resource that will hopefully facilitate more trades. I think moral trade is an underexplored topic with significant opportunity for gains. The lowest-hanging fruit seems to be the synergy between animal welfare groups and climate groups. Both accept alternative proteins as one of the best uses of marginal funding (GFI is a top-rated charity by both Animal Charity Evaluators and Giving Green). Proposal I am proposing trade between funds run by these groups. On one side, the Giving Green Fund, and on the other side, Animal Charity Evaluators Recommended Charity Fund. The Giving Green Fund has distributed funds to its top charities twice. The first time, this past summer, each organization received $50,000, and $50,000 was saved for later. The second time, at the end of 2023, the funds were not evenly distributed. They sent $100,000 to Industrious Labs, $70,000 to Good Food Institute, and $50,000 each to Good Energy Collective, Evergreen Collaborative, and Clean Air Task Force. The justifications, with very transparent reasoning, are here and here. So while the uneven distribution may make counterfactual trust harder to build, the clarity in the process should largely counteract that effect. The ACE fund has consistently distributed money to top charities and standout charities, including GFI, in consistent ratios. Recently they've switched to a binary recommended or not recommended status for charities, so it seems reasonable to assume that they would allocate money from the fund evenly between all of the recommended charities. Normally high cost-effectiveness ratings would harm counterfactual trust and discourage actors from engaging in moral trade, but in this case, both funds have a fairly strong track record of systematically allocating funding, so determining the counterfactual is relatively easy. I would advocate for both funds to redirect an additional $50,000 from their other funded nonprofits to GFI as a first moral trade. Both can contribute an equal amount because they have roughly equal relative cost-effectiveness estimates. I estimate that a 95 to 100% surplus should be generated from this trade (i.e. both worldviews will get 95 to 100% more moral value from those $50,000 than they would have gotten had they simply donated to the alternative top charity without trade). You can see my calculations here. It may make sense to make the reallocation smaller if GFI will have difficulty absorbing the marginal funding at similar levels of cost-effectiveness (though I doubt this will be the case, since they have an 8-figure budget). Another consideration is whether the other top nonprofits were relying on an expected donation - it's important to avoid messing up their plans. Terms could also be negotiated based on up-to-date cost-effectiveness estimates of both GFI and the alternate top charities. For example, Giving Green may find some of ACE's other recommended charities to be somewhat effective, making the trade less valuable for them, and meaning that they donate less. The value generated here will come from both the moral trade itself, and from the information value of attempting to conduct a moral trade. A writeup about the execution may encourage others to take similar actions. Giving Green did a quick review and was fine with my posting this, but did not have time to review it in detail before the day I scheduled to post and has not en...

Bill Witty grew up knowing he wanted more out of life. He started as a maintenance man right out of school; rather than play on the weekends, Bill would flip houses. A friend told him about the earning potential as an electrician. He took a pay cut and leapt at an opportunity to be an apprentice at Milestone Home Services. After seven years, Bill earned his masters license and started his entrepreneurial journey by opening W3 Electric in 2019. (The W3 stands for his triple win he learned from Milestone, which is rooted in CertainPath philosophy.)Despite a pandemic and slew of challenges that come with launching a new company, Bill has responded positively. He joined CertainPath not long after opening at the advice of his former boss, Milestone's Gus Antos. With some guidance and the right mindset, Bill has grown W3 Electric from a one-man company to a seven-truck operation generating $2.2MM in sales. That's quick growth in only 3.5 years. Even better, Bill has the team and many of the foundational systems and procedures in place to enjoy rapid growth. In this interview, Bill talks about his business journey, including:· How training doesn't have to be complicated for a small business.· Why having the right mindset is so very important for owners and your employees.· When the right time to start a club membership program with electrical.· How to make your electrical safety inspections a memorable experience.· Why debriefs after every service call is so very important.· When the right time is to pull yourself out of the truck as the owner.· What personality traits to look for when interviewing people.· How Bill has reduced call backs by training and training some more on presenting diagnostics.· What his marketing approach is, given he's in a market with so many massive contractors with deep pockets.· And so much more!Show NotesThe Successful Contractor Podcast is a part of the CertainPath family. Lured Up Podcast 295 Recorded and Streamed on Twitch- 12/26/2023 VoD and Audio Publish Date - 12/28/2023 We have plenty of gameplay to recap from the last week. The pair of Winter Events made for a nice setting for Wyrdeer Raid Day. With the holiday weekend making it tough for someTrainers to find the time to get out to Raid, we discuss how an increased Remote Raid limit makes for a nice supplement to in person play. Sometimes, but not always, shelling out the cash for Remote Raid passes can equate to a satisfying gameplay and event experience. Rowlett will be our first Community Day Pokémon of the year and we speculate on if we will see a consistent return to Starter Pokémon alternating months with non starters. Any way you look at it, triple Stardust is worth the effort and mixed with half hatch distance, there are two solid reasons to get some IRL gameplay in. January looks to have a few tricks up its sleeve but New Year's will be our first Event of the new year. We hope you like Costume Pokémon because this event is filled with them. While we would always be on the Shiny hunt, the grief of transferring Costume Pokémon is dreaded. Pichu with a Party Hat looks to be a solid chase in the egg department if that's your thing. The Aye Aye Captain Wayfarer Review Challenge has wrapped up and the stats are in. As expected, the Wayfinders came out in force and proved that there is an amazingly strong movement of Trainers that believe in Niantic's vision to map the world. With over 175,000 nominations resolved, and the Challenge making its way to the US, Trainers around the world are able to enjoy the results of the Challenge. For those that took part, the Tier 4 Rewards were absolutely amazing, and the individual rewards were insane. We wrap things up with a Raid Guide and Battle Party for Buzzwole. While the Shiny will not be available, it is still a cool Pokémon. We turn to Pokébattler to help us construct our teams, and they couldn't be more different. With Mega Pidgeot making the top 10, can decides to pay tribute to one of Pokémon's OGs, and bring a party of Pidgeot… Like a G. Adam on the other hand, brings a beautifully diverse mix of hundo Flying Types, with some of his party getting action for the first time. Martin and Dr. Rowlett head across the river in a small boat by night to land on the west side -- the Kings gang's territory. Martin is hopeful that a doctor on the west side will have some of the antibiotics needed to cure Margaret's MRSA. Dr. Rowlett wants to smuggled back something larger. That mystery cargo proves to be highly problematic. There's one week left (until Sept. 29, 2023) to tell Mic how they feel about the ads that play during the episodes. He has a survey here. Here are the links to Mic's Buy Me A Coffee page and his Patreon page.
In the search for the special antibiotics to treat Margaret's MRSA, Martin has to travel to Manchester on short notice. Connie told him to talk with a Dr. Rowlett at the Elliot hospital. Dr. Rowlett is kurt and dismissive. The only place with those antibiotics is the Catholic Medical Center on the west side -- which is tightly controlled by the Kings gang. When Martin snarks about taking a boat across at night to avoid the gang sentries, Dr. Rowlett suddenly becomes helpful. They then hatch their plans for sneaking across the river that night. Mic is asking his listeners how they feel about the ads that play during the episodes. He has a survey here. Here are the links to Mic's Buy Me A Coffee page and his Patreon page.

June 6, 1996, Rowlett, Texas. Two small boys and their mother are sleeping in the family room for the night. The mother wakes, and a man in dark clothing and a baseball hat is standing at her feet. In a frenzy, she screams and runs through her house after him. When she turns on the lights she sees that both of her children have been mortally wounded. But when local police and EMS arrive, the scene was more than they were capable of handling. And now, 27 years later, it's unclear if anyone will ever know who murdered little Devon and Damon. This is the story of Darlie Lynn Routier. Guilty? Or innocent on death row?Sources used for this podcastJOIN THE HITCHED 2 HOMICIDE IN-LAWS AND OUTLAWSSTART KRIS CALVERT'S BOOKS TODAY FOR FREEH2H WEBSITEH2H on TWITTERH2H on INSTA
