Doug Davis is a conservation-based real estate developer, self-proclaimed adrenaline junky, and co-founder of The Farm at Okefenokee. It is a legacy project that Doug plans to work on for decades to come, one that combines development and conservation. The Farm is on 705 acres near Folkston, Georgia, and will ultimately have 250 sustainably-built cabins among crop fields and farm animals that will produce high-quality food for its residents. The development is based on principles of regenerative agriculture, conservation, and a belief that a vibrant community needs “body heat”—people interacting in a lively way with each other and the land. Doug and show host Neal talk about Doug's youth as a “hellion” obsessed with the outdoors, and they detail some of his great adventures surfing, hunting, and hiking. They trace his career path which began in construction, then progressed into engineering and finally development. Doug's foundational love for nature has always informed his work, especially his conservation mitigation bank projects, which restore large wetlands to their pre-industrial state. They also discuss Doug's journey launching The Farm and his and his team's big plans for its future, which includes a restaurant, extensive regenerative farming, community events and classes, a swimming pond and dog park, and a series of small “villages,” each consisting of 25 cabins. You can follow along with Doug's journey of living at The Farm and continuing to develop it on his Instagram and The Farm's Instagram. You can also check out okefarm.com for more information. ———————-At Latitude, we're more than a real estate firm; we're your partner in the transformation of homes, communities, and habitats towards healthy, resilient, and thriving communities. Longtime passionate Upland Hunter, Doug Davis, joins us to talk about how he has found himself getting the most enjoyment from helping new people get started hunting and training their own dogs. Who is Doug Davis? Does the first impression of seeing bird dogs for the first time predict what breed you want to buy? What learning resources did people use 30 years ago pre-internet? Should you work dogs closer in the desert on Quail? Is your tracking collar making you a worse dog handler? Do you compare your dog/hunt to others on social media? Is the "school of hard knocks" always the best place to learn? Why pass on the knowledge and help the next generation? Is simple always best? How does a gun shy dog lead to finding a mentor? Dr. Jason Richardson and I sat down this week and recorded a Podcast with Erik Simmons (The AQUAMAN) out here in San Diego. We talk to Erik, now 54, about his BMX career from New Jersey in 1979 as a kid, moving out West and eventually making his home in San Diego and getting to ride with the likes of Eddy and Mike King, Shaun Texas, Doug Davis, Kiyomi Waller just to name a few during those early SD years. Erik talks about turning Pro in the 90s and making his way to AA and turning quite a few heads during his time in Pro alongside some of the ups and downs of AA. We talk about Erik coming back to BMX with his children during the Covid times hitting the Nationals, some of the riders he races with in a very competitive 50-54 x class and Cruiser these days. Of course we hit that well-known and documented 1993 Reno A Pro Main with Chis Moeller with crashes, moonwalks, a heated team manager jumping on Moeller at the finish line and so much more. Cheers to Erik and Jason. I really enjoyed this one. Check it out.

Sometimes it's easier to bury our heads in the sand and ignore the crises happening across seas; however, we must educate ourselves on the current environment we're living in. In fact, we're already starting to see the Russian-Ukraine war's impact within the states, and according to Doug Davis, this is just the beginning.Doctor Doug Davis shares his personal experience helping his family flee Ukraine and how he's partnered with the Ukrainian Medical Association of North America (UMANA) to help supply Ukraine with medical supplies–to date, UMANA has donated several hundreds of tons of medical supplies. Dr. Davis also discusses the misconceptions about the war, what led to it (and why it wasn't a surprise), what the family has been doing since escaping, and ultimately, the silver linings behind it all. This week, western nations impose sanctions against Russia as Vladimir Putin moves military forces into two regions of Ukraine in the early stages of an apparent invasion. In recent days, one of the leading French fact-checking agencies took time to debunk a social media post about chemtrails... we ask whether this was really worth all the trouble, before shifting our attention to why USA today was also taking time to fact-check claims about former president Donald Trump's new Truth Social app, and what the Supreme Court recently had to say about Donald Trump's invocation of executive privilege. Then, as the situation in Ukraine worsens, the U.S. and its allies have recently been warming up to using the words "invasion" and "war" in reference to the escalation of tensions in Ukraine by Russian President Vladimir Putin. We analyze the current state of the situation, along with a video released by Russia containing something odd that eagle-eyed internet sleuths managed to spot... what does all this say about Russia, and its intentions going forward with the invasion of Ukraine? This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette digital news desk and I'm here with your update for Tuesday, January 11. Tuesday will be a day for melting snow, but not too much. According to a forecast for the National Weather Service it will be sunny in the Cedar Rapids area with a high near 37 degrees. The wind will still be cold, with wind chill values as low as 15 degrees below zero and gusts as high as 25 mph. On Tuesday night it will be partly cloudy with a low around 22 degrees. A hearing to determine competency of a Cedar Rapids teen, who is accused of killing his parents last October using a knife and ax, is set for Friday in Linn County District Court. Last month, lawyers for https://www.thegazette.com/crime-courts/cedar-rapids-police-teen-stabbed-parents-to-death-to-take-charge-of-his-life/ (Ethan Alexander Orton,) 17, charged as an adult with two counts of first-degree murder, asked a judge to suspend proceedings in the case until the teen could be evaluated by a state psychiatric doctors. Defense lawyers, in the motion, said they believed Orton has a mental impairment or disorder that would prevent him from understanding the charges against him and assisting in his defense. Orton's lawyers, Doug Davis and Madison Wiese, in the motion said their beliefs are based on in-person communications with Orton and information they have received. They also asked that Orton be evaluated to determine if he suffered from diminished capacity at the time of the killings. Belle's Basix, the only LGBTQ bar in Cedar Rapids, is set to close at the end of January its owner, Andrew Harrisson, told the Gazette on Monday. Open since 1997, the bar in northeast Cedar Rapids is set to close for a lot of the same reasons other businesses have been struggling in the past year: challenging financial problems made untenable by disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic. Harrison said he welcomes offers to purchase the business, hoping to keep it alive even if he can't himself. Inquiries have started to come in since his weekend announcement. The Linn County Sheriff's Office is investigating a home invasion in which two Coggon homeowners were assaulted. Around 6:28 p.m. Sunday, Linn County deputies responded to a report of a home invasion in the 1800 block of Maple Way in Coggon, according to a news release. The homeowners, Joseph and Sandra Henderson, both 72, reported someone knocked on their front door. When they answered, a man who claimed to be a law enforcement officer demanded entry into the residence and forced his way in. He was brandishing a gun. Once inside, authorities said, he demanded money and assaulted the Hendersons before fleeing a light-colored, four-door sedan of unknown make and model. The Hendersons were transported to a hospital to be treated for their injuries. Joseph Henderson remains hospitalized. According to the sheriff's office, the man is white with a medium build, standing about 6 feet to 6 feet, 3 inches tall. Iowa Republican leaders in the Senate told journalists last week they will no longer be allowed to work on the chamber floor, a change that breaks with a more than 140-year tradition in the Iowa Capitol. The move raised concerns among free press and freedom of information advocates who said it is a blow to transparency and open government that makes it harder for the public to understand their elected officials. The new rule denies reporters access to the press benches near senators' desks, a location current and former statehouse reporters say is crucial for the most accurate coverage. The position allows reporters to see and hear everything clearly on the Senate floor and to get real-time answers and clarifications. Beginning this session, reporters will be seated in an upper-level public gallery instead. No such change has been made so far in the Iowa House. Is it possible that you're illegally riding that Catrike, Terratrike. or even Cruzbike on the streets of America? It turns out to be a very difficult legal question fraught with insurance and financial implications. Doug Davis chats with legal experts Charlie Thomas, Steve Magas and Steven Hansen about laws excluding some 2, 3 or 4 wheeled bents from riding our roads. It's a real problem and makes touring a potential nightmare. Next is a segment on the best approach to buying and selling a used bent. I talk to Chris Ferguson and Steve Wood who each moderate a popular Facebook classified group for recumbents. They and our own Larry Varney (representing BentRider Online Classifieds) will discuss all the dos and don'ts involved along with our very experienced panel. Also,Larry Varney and I were invited up to Grand Rapids, Michigan where we had two days to put the new Spyder-TerraTrike's speed machine-through its paces. If you had previously thought you'd never hear the words "TerraTrike" and "speed machine" in the same sentence watch on and be amazed. Shifting to Azure Active Directory means you're done with worrying about backups, right? Not necessarily. As the Azure cloud service provider, Microsoft is responsible for restoring the Azure AD service if an outage occurs. But in the case of a cyber disaster, your resources—users, groups, services, policies—might get wiped out, leaving your organization at a standstill. At the same time, you scramble to restore these vital components under extreme time pressure. In this HIP Podcast session, Sean and AD expert Doug Davis discuss some common misconceptions about Azure AD backup and recovery. Spoiler alert: the Azure AD Recycle Bin won't save you if your Azure AD resources get wiped out.

This week, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley is the center of attention as Senate Hearings examine the chaotic withdrawal of the U.S. from Afghanistan and Milley's calls to China during the Trump Administration. Fresh back from several weeks in Brazil, this week we lead off with an analysis of why Brazilian supporters of Jair Bolsanaro are donning American flags while calling for a military takeover. Elsewhere, political shifts are occurring in Germany, and recent FBI data is reporting an unusual spike in murders in 2020. However, our main focus this week has to do with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, who in the final days of Donald Trump's presidency made calls to China's military leaders to assure them the United States did not plan to attack them... and now some Republican leaders are calling for his resignation. We examine all of these stories, and several others in this week's episode of Middle Theory. Recent cyberattacks (including the SolarWinds breach) have involved gaining entry into on-premises Active Directory and then moving to Azure Active Directory (or vice versa) to infiltrate the environment. Sean chats with Doug Davis (Semperis Senior Product Manager) about the differences in managing security in a hybrid identity environment. Doug shares his top 5 tips for closing common attack paths that move between on-premises AD and Azure Active Directory.

FANDANGO AT THE WALL follows Arturo O’Farrill, maestro Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra founder, and Kabir Sehgal, bestselling author and music producer, as they prepare to record a live album at the U.S.-Mexico border wall. Their project is inspired by the annual music festival called Fandango Fronterizo, which unites people in son jarocho's song and dance on both sides of the Tijuana-San Diego border. Before recording, Fandango Fronterizo organizer, Jorge Francisco Castillo, takes O’Farrill and Sehgal on an inspiring journey of Veracruz, Mexico, where son jarocho, the 300-hundred-year-old folk music called combining indigenous, Spanish, and African traditions originated. As they travel to the remotest regions of the Veracruz coast, they meet legendary son jarocho musicians and artisans and recruit them for the upcoming festival. Their travels culminate at the annual border celebration, promoting peace, and celebrating unity. From executive producers, Quincy Jones, Andrew Young, Carlos Santana, producers Kabir Sehgal and Doug Davis, and director Varda Bar-Kar, the film introduces the beautiful music of the region through intimate storytelling and captivating concert footage. FANDANGO AT THE WALL is a powerful reminder of music’s ability to bridge cultural barriers.
Joerg Gebers is a German working and living in Shanghai, China. He imported what he reckons are the first two velomobiles into China in hopes of commuting to work and eventually riding them through Asia and back to Europe. After a few weeks of tooling around Shanghai streets without incident in his Quattrovelo he was suddenly stopped by police and had his cherished velomobile impounded. He believes it is all a misunderstanding but the story has blossomed online and there are many pictures and videos of him taken by Chinese bystanders. In this video Doug Davis and Gary Solomon have the opportunity to engage Joerg in an online interview from China and give him the chance to set the record straight on this story. The interview was conducted live on Thursday, July 9th, 2020.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/laidbackbikereport)

There is one person in the world I'm aware of who has owned and ridden more brands, more models and more configurations of these sleek wonders than anyone not actually owning a bike shop! Today we wade deep into the mysterious world of evaluating velomobiles with world renown German velomobile visionary Josef Janning. Joining us will be our own Doug Davis the guy equally knowledgeable but having the unfair (not unfaired) advantage of actually owning a bike shop. You can watch the YouTube video of this webcast here: https://youtu.be/JG7d1DxyUP8**Table of Contents for this month’s video. Functions-as-a-service allow developers to run their code in a “serverless” environment. A developer can provide a function to a cloud provider and the code for that function will be scheduled onto a container and executed whenever an event triggers that function. In this episode, I interviewed Doug Davis COO and one of the founders of the BEC Group. The BEC Group is a multi-unit franchisee of Zaxby's and Doug has been with the Zaxby's organization since they had 13 units back in the late 90's. It's a Battle Royale (of sorts) on this episode of The Mickey Dudes Podcast! Doug Davis of WDW Main Street joins us to take on our very own Dave Koch. In a move they say will “spur innovation,” Republicans on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce have voted to issue block grants for school nutrition programs in three pilot states, cutting them loose from federal federal mandates and supervision. #StopTheBlock’s opponents to this measure—to date, more than 1,000 organizations—say these states would be cut loose from a lot more. On today’s episode, Education/Workforce Ranking Member Bobby Scott (D-VA) describes how block grants, because they’re easily shaved down in the federal budget, have historically led to the gutting of public services. Doug Davis of the Burlington (VT) School Food Project predicts an unraveling of standards, policies, and protocols that would cast farm-to-school and national supply chains into chaos and jeopardize the nutrition safety net of millions of children in need.
