It's official! Kevin Durant will play for the Phoenix Suns tomorrow against the Charolette Hornets. We'll finally see how he fits in with this Suns team and one of the biggest questions (outside of who will be the fifth starter) has been what will the Suns defense look like. We'll take a look forward in that area by looking back at the game against the Bucks. We also heard from him on the ETCs podcast, and the crew will dive into what stood out from that conversation. PLUS! Has the beef between KD and Charles Barkley gotten worse? Barkley had some words for KD and his career but KD had a response. The last couple weeks on Suns Mode have been a progressing dive into the WNBA Playoff hunt. Currently, the 6-8 seeds in the WNBA Standings are yet to be clinched, and we have six teams fighting for only three spots. The Mercury are part of those six. Every week, the Suns Mode Podcast provides an update on everything Phoenix Professional Basketball. Typically we'll start with Suns Mode, hop on the spaceship, then transition to the Merc Mode portion of the episode. I envision this being the format for the indefinite future. For the Suns this week, I talk about the two most recent roster moves. The Suns have filled the two 2-way contract slots on the roster this past week. One is a familiar face. The other is brand new. I am fairly satisfied with the moves, but am hungry for more. During the episode I provide my opinions on Ish Wainright and the new Duane Washington Jr. In the episode I discuss skill sets, potential and the importance of these two players to our team. What I got from Duane Washington Jr. tapeSuns doing right by Ish.The rest of this episode is solely dedicated to the WNBA Playoff Race and our Phoenix Mercury. Last week we called it a race. Unfortunately we must now upgrade this to a CHASE as the Mercury are on the outside looking in. In this episode I talk both the good and bad from the Mercury's three previous games. My front row experience during Thursday's win vs the Sparks. Plus important stats and messages regarding some of the Mercury role playersTwo losses vs the Liberty and Sun. But I consider these to be a tale of two different losses. Listen for what I mean when I am going over the two games. Every week, we look at what is ahead for the Phoenix Mercury. When the next Suns Mode releases, the Merc will have played three more games. Another road game vs the Sun on Thursday before returning to Phoenix for games on Saturday vs the Liberty and Wednesday vs the Lynx. No push oversWhy I think the Mercury can beat the Sun despite just losing to themPrediction for high-stakes game vs LibertySylvia FowlesRevenge for the most heartbreaking loss of the season.Current WNBA Standings as of the end of games on Wednesday, 8/3/20226. With the Phoenix Suns offering the max offer sheet the Pacers handed Deandre Ayton, where do the Pacers go from here? Alex and Facci breakdown their theories on why the Pacers pursuit of Ayton was short lived, why the Pacers may have not been more aggressive with their contract offer and whether or not Ayton really wanted to be a Pacer. Later, the guys discuss Summer League wrapping up, Duane Washington Jr. clearing waivers and what the future for Myles Turner looks like since the Pacers aggressively pursued his replacement in Deandre Ayton. On this episode of the Fieldhouse Files, you'll hear my interview with Duane Washington Jr. from the 500 Festival Parade and then I'll introduce you to someone who has been around The Fieldhouse for a while. That's Jhared Simpson, now a Fever assistant coach, who came up through the video room. Among the items discussed on this episode with Simpson: How coming up through the video room is helpful for aspiring coaches, like it was for Frank Vogel and Erik Spoelstra. “The best coaches are the best thieves,” he joked. Why it was a good move from the video room to the bench — taking a coaching role with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. “You don't have the rewind button any more.” What his experience has been like working under Hall of Fame coach Marianne Stanley. How the women's game is more of a tactical game. Realities of the WNBA — short season, small rosters (12) and just 12 teams, now due for expansion. Inside the draft room and the characteristics they prioritized. “Draft night was a breeze.” He shared their draft process and the one trait they valued most. ----- Podcast listeners can get 25% off a subscription of Fieldhouse Files by going to http://fieldhousefiles.substack.com/ffpodcast.
