The two dive into why they are so excited for this year and react to the AP Preseason Top 25 Rankings. Colin gives his predictions for the big Ohio State-Texas and Michigan-Oklahoma early-season matchups and what he expects from those teams this season. Klatt and Cowherd break down their expectations for USC and whether the Trojans will take the next step and reach the College Football Playoff. They also look at the ongoing rivalry between the Big Ten and the SEC and Cowherd reveals why it's not the Alabama and Georgia's of the SEC that have the best shot at competing with the Big Ten's resources in this new NIL era. THIS WEEK ON THE BALLER LIFESTYLE PODCAST THE COLLEGE ROOMMATE FROM HELL Brian and Ed open the show with college memories, including Ed's son's upcoming move to college and Brian's legendary freshman-year roommate experience. Brian tells the story of being assigned to a mysterious older student named Scott Andrews, who was already a senior when Brian arrived as a freshman. There was a CD player, a tube television, floppy disks, computer labs, and absolutely no chance Brian was getting access to his roommate's password-protected computer. It's a perfect reminder of just how different college life was in the 1990s. RIP: A VERY TOUGH WEEK Ed brings the guys a particularly heavy list of people who passed away. Among the names discussed: Christian Stiles Dolly Parton Hayden Panettiere Frank Beard of ZZ Top Shelley Fabares James Liu Butch Husky Christy Carlson Romano Bill Rasmussen, ESPN co-founder Nancy Kissinger Lucy Davis of the British The Office The guys spend significant time remembering Dolly Parton, celebrating her extraordinary songwriting career, philanthropy, personality and cultural impact. They also discuss the songwriting history behind “I Will Always Love You” and “Jolene,” including the incredible fact that Dolly wrote both songs on the same day. THE DOLLY PARTON APPRECIATION SEGMENT Brian and Ed make it clear: Dolly Parton was more than a country music star. They discuss her songwriting, business success, generosity and the countless stories of her helping people without making a big production out of it. Dolly's impact on music, entertainment and philanthropy gets the full Baller Lifestyle treatment. THE BRITISH OFFICE VS. YELLOWSTONE The guys revisit one of television's eternal debates: how can anyone possibly put Yellowstone ahead of the British version of The Office? Brian and Ed praise the short, tightly constructed run of the British series while mocking the sprawling world of Yellowstone and its endless discussions about land, trucks and ranching. ️ CALLAWAY'S VERY BAD GOLF COMMERCIAL Callaway finds itself apologizing after an advertisement showed a woman being pushed to the ground when she reached for a man's golf club. Brian and Ed try to figure out how something like this gets through the enormous number of people who presumably approve advertising before it gets released. The verdict: maybe don't make the joke where the punchline is literally throwing a woman to the ground. AARON RODGERS AND THE FLOCK CAMERAS One of the biggest stories of the episode: Aaron Rodgers reportedly contributed money toward license-plate reader cameras in Cedar Grove, New Jersey. Brian and Ed go deep on the implications of mass surveillance, police technology and the argument that tools introduced for one purpose can eventually be used for something much broader. The discussion turns into a larger rant about cameras seemingly being everywhere — except when people actually need them. STEPHEN A. SMITH, ESPN & THE HOT-TAKE ECONOMY Brian and Ed discuss Stephen A. Smith, ESPN personalities and the modern sports-media ecosystem. They question the value of manufactured controversy and compare sports television's hot-take culture to other forms of opinion-based media. Colin Cowherd, Pat McAfee and Stephen A. Smith all enter the conversation. THE 49ERS OWNER'S VERY STRANGE $140 STORY San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York becomes the subject of one of the strangest stories in the episode after reportedly being involved in an incident surrounding a $140 sexual encounter in Ohio. Brian and Ed can't understand why a billionaire NFL owner wouldn't simply use the advantages that come with being a billionaire NFL owner. ALLEGED RANGERS PROSPECT HAZING The guys discuss disturbing allegations involving Texas Rangers prospects in the Dominican Republic. The conversation centers on alleged sexual hazing involving underage players and the serious consequences surrounding the accusations. What supposedly happened gets increasingly unbelievable as Brian and Ed attempt to understand how anyone could possibly think this qualifies as "hazing." NORMAN POWELL'S HONEST NBA ASSESSMENT Norman Powell gives perhaps the most refreshingly honest answer imaginable when asked about his new team's prospects: They could be really good. They could also be really bad. Brian and Ed respect the honesty. LISTENER EMAILS HOW FUCKING RICH IS TED McGINLEY? The guys investigate the career and estimated wealth of Ted McGinley, known for roles including: Happy Days Married... with Children The Love Boat Shrinking Brian and Ed discuss the infamous "show killer" reputation that followed McGinley, his modeling career, his USC water polo background and his longtime Newport Beach real estate. OGRE VS. MEAT The eternal question: Ogre or Meat? Brian and Ed revisit Revenge of the Nerds and Porky's and attempt to determine which character wins the highly scientific Baller Lifestyle comparison. THE PORNOGRAPHIC PEEP-HOLE QUESTION A listener asks what would happen if the notorious shower peeping scene from Porky's occurred today. The guys discuss the infamous scene involving the school's shower and the consequences that would come with recreating it in modern times. FANTASY FOOTBALL OWNERS VS. KYLE SHANAHAN A listener wants Brian and Ed to conduct a welfare check on anyone who spent enormous amounts of money on fantasy football only to discover that Christian McCaffrey is dealing with an injury. The guys discuss the perennial fantasy-football frustration of preseason injury information and whether coaches should be required to provide more transparency. Spoiler: fantasy football is not real life. PATREON BONUS SEGMENT NON-SPORTS SEGMENTS The regular episode wraps, but Patreon subscribers get more. FORTUNE TELLERS Brian and Ed question how fortune tellers continue to operate, particularly when their businesses seem to occupy surprisingly nice houses. SOPHIE RAIN HELPS TEACHERS The guys discuss Sophie Rain's decision to help teachers after a Florida political candidate proposed a tax on pornography to fund schools. Rather than simply complaining, Rain reportedly stepped up and spent significant money helping teachers purchase classroom supplies. THE PENN STATE FRATERNITY COCAINE RING A bizarre story involving a Penn State fraternity, cocaine distribution and pledges leads to a discussion about college drug dealing, Venmo, cash, the dark web and the general stupidity required to run a criminal enterprise using your real name. ONLYFANS AND THE "STEPBROTHER" PREGNANCY STORY Brian and Ed discuss a bizarre OnlyFans-related story involving a woman claiming to be pregnant by her real-life stepbrother. The guys attempt to determine whether we're witnessing real-life chaos or simply the ultimate marketing strategy. THE RETURN OF LISA BIZZLE A deep-cut Baller Lifestyle Podcast callback resurfaces involving longtime friend of the show Lisa Bizzle. The guys remember the infamous story involving an unusual offer for videos of Lisa using the bathroom. They also discover that Lisa has moved into the ceramics business, prompting a call for her return to the podcast. SUge KNIGHT, TUPAC & THE ASHES STORY Suge Knight reportedly claimed that Tupac Shakur's ashes were rolled into blunts and smoked by his family and friends. Brian and Ed are skeptical. They discuss the logic — or lack thereof — behind smoking something that has already been burned. The conversation also turns toward the continuing legal proceedings surrounding Tupac's murder. TARGET'S CONTROVERSIAL CLOWN COSTUME The guys close out the Patreon show discussing a children's Halloween costume from Target that sparked controversy because of its resemblance to racist Jim Crow imagery. Brian and Ed question how such a product makes it through the design, marketing and approval process. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS Brian's 1994 college roommate nightmare The Baller Lifestyle RIP segment The guys celebrate Dolly Parton's incredible life and career The Office vs. Yellowstone Callaway's disastrous golf commercial Aaron Rodgers and police surveillance cameras The modern sports-media hot-take machine Jed York's bizarre $140 incident Alleged Texas Rangers prospect hazing Norman Powell's brutally honest NBA prediction How rich is Ted McGinley? Ogre vs. Meat Fantasy football owners demand justice Sophie Rain helps teachers The Penn State fraternity cocaine ring OnlyFans reaches a new level of family dysfunction The return of the Lisa Bizzle story Suge Knight's Tupac ashes claim Target's controversial clown costume PATREON Want even more Baller Lifestyle? Willard and Dibs react to Colin Cowherd's rankings of NFL head coaches and quarterback duos. Where does Brock Purdy and Kyle Shanahan land on the list?
Should we pursue "loungevity" instead of longevity? This is a question posed by prominent sports commentator Colin Cowherd on a recent rant that appeared on Instagram. It was very entertaining, and the intent was to be humorous, but it was also, to me, very offensive at times and brings up this big question that we continue to face: the juggling act of trying to enjoy our lives and not miss out versus trying to make sensible, healthy choices that promote longevity rather than send us into this spiral of accelerated aging and demise that has become the norm. In this episode, I break down Cowherd’s rant point by point, giving him credit where he gets it right while challenging some of the arguments he makes about enjoying life and not worrying so much about health. We get into alcohol, sleep, hydration, processed foods, biohacking, and the constantly changing research on what is and isn’t healthy. I also get into the question of how much control we really have over our health destiny, why your genes are not your destiny, and why four of the five markers of metabolic syndrome can be reversed in a matter of weeks with dietary transformation. Most importantly, I look at some remarkable examples of people who are actually aging powerfully and performing at a high level—from 85-year-old high jumper Kathy Bergen and 101-year-old sprinter Lester Wright to 90-year-old Earl Fee, 61-year-old world-record 400-meter runner Sue McDonald, and my own father, who played championship golf and shot his age more than 1,200 times. These are the people we should be paying attention to when it comes to figuring out how to age well. TIMESTAMPS: Do we have to have a juggling act between trying to enjoy life and staying fit? Many people use rationalizations, excuses and cop-outs along the lines of "Hey, life is short, we might as well enjoy ourselves." [01:08] The United States is now the fattest, sickest population in the history of humanity with over 80% designated as metabolically unhealthy. For waist to height ratio, you want to measure better than 2 to 1. [05:21] There is more of a problem with obesity than there is with starving children in Africa. [08:50] Brad critiques a recent quip from Colin Cowherd. There is a whole group of sports fans who rationalize "what I could have been." You can still do something to keep in the game. [11:51] Does alcohol have any health benefits? [15:33] Many aspects of the biohacking scene have gone a little bit wild, extreme and somewhat inappropriate. [19:52] Are you getting enough hydration when you drink coffee and orange juice? [23:17] Sleep deprivation is one of the biggest public health problems on the planet. [24:24] A processed power bar is very nutrient deficient and health destructive. [27:37] The extreme biohackers are deeply immersed into that lifestyle but it is mostly unreachable for most of us. [31:27] With so many new technological inventions, are we soon going to have some drugs that neutralize the adverse impact of junk food? [35:18] VO2 max is a measurement of the volume of oxygen that you consume per minute per kilogram of body weight while your are exercising. [37:10] The use of anti-aging hormone replacement therapy can override adverse lifestyle practices. [42:16] There are many folks giving advice out there who do not have the experience needed to be telling you what to do. [42:16] Your genes are not your destiny. The genes require lifestyle behaviors in order to be expressed. [51:42] There are four blood markers that can be corrected and reversed out of the disease risk category into healthy category in a matter of weeks of dietary transformation. [57:16] "I wanna live a life that's healthy enough to enjoy and enjoyable enough to be healthy." In the final hour of Dover and Cecil, the guys react to what Colin Cowherd had to say about Bo Nix. Would you take Bo over Lamar Jackson in 4th quarter situations? ESPN also released a list of NFL players and their potential trade values. Which Broncos could you get the most for in a hypothetical trade? Do we think this list is valuing the Broncos players correctly? What is more valuable: a tackle or a guard? We look at the rest of the NFL and how ESPN values them. Drake Maye, according to ESPN, would be worth SIX first-round picks. Is he really on equal footing with Josh and Mahomes? Is Bo Nix really that much less valuable than Maye? Do we need to pump the brakes on one of the newest Broncos? Could we be overvaluing this player's impact, or are we worried they could be like Evan Engram last year?
The MLB All-Star Game tried to be patriotic. Instead, it seemed desperate. From Patti LaBelle's stumbling national anthem and a cringeworthy fifth-inning "Sandlot" spoof to Miss America's rendition of "God Bless America" — baseball's midsummer showcase went all in on patriotism and came out looking like a try-hard political ad. Jason Whitlock breaks down why performative patriotism is worse than no patriotism at all — and what the MLB's All-Star spectacle reveals about a league that has lost touch with its own audience. ➢Today's Sponsors PreBorn has helped rescue more than 400,000 babies, and every single day, they continue that work by offering mothers something powerful and life-changing: an ultrasound. Stink celebrates Stoke getting called into the principal’s office during the break. Will, Stink, and Stoke wrap up the third hour talking about the Nuggets’ quiet offseason.
The crew enters the final hour revisiting Scheim's lead on Colin Cowherd ranking Drake Maye at #10 among the top QB's in the league. Why are so many people so low on Drake Maye? And would you even consider trading Willson Contreras before the trade deadline. And Hillnotes recommend a way to get Roman Anthony to stop going out and about.
The crew revisits Scheim's lead on Colin Cowherd's top 10 QB list and how it's crazy to everyone that Drake Maye is so low on this list. Wiggy then criticizes guys for painting their nails for attention.
Scheim points out Colin Cowherd's current day rankings for QB's and questions where he placed Drake Maye on the list? Who is above Drake Maye on this list?
In hour 2 of The Drive, Zach and Phil take a deep dive into the Broncos and Bo Nix. Zach explains Bo Nix's struggles against zone coverage and how he needs to improve in this area of his game. How will Jaylen Waddle help Nix's zone coverage problems? We look into Sean Payton's history and how his offenses have always spread the ball around to all the playmakers on the team. Will we see a lopsided amount of production from any one individual? We react to Colin Cowherd's comments on wanting to have Bo Nix in a 4th quarter rather than Lamar Jackson. Today's "Three Count" features Patrick Mahomes' comments on trying to play in Week 1 against the Broncos, recapping Argentina's miraculous comeback win over England to move on to the World Cup Finals, and breaking down the Avalanche season-opening game as they will host the Kings in September. We react to the report of the Yankees being interested in Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman. Would the guys entertain trading Goodman if it meant getting star pitchers in return?
