In the latest episode of This Could Be a Podcast, Nathan and Bobby discuss Festival Etiquette, Happy Days and Chain Restaurants.
We live in a world where there's a lot of sameness. There are very few local or regional businesses anymore. These days, you can find the same gas stations and stores like Walmart or Target in nearly every city. And most of the places to eat, whether they're fast food or you can sit down, are now chain restaurants. It's easy to find an Olive Garden, Red Lobster Chili's, or a Buffalo Wild Wings in nearly every city. But have you ever thought about the fact that they all started with just one location? At this point, most are owned by big corporations. But many of them have fascinating origin stories, and didn't begin in an expected location... On this episode of Taste Buds with Deb, host Debra Eckerling speaks with Sam E. Goldberg, creator and host of “Respect the Chain,” a pop culture travel food show that dives into the stories behind the most iconic restaurant chains. “Whether it's Moe's versus Chipotle, ketchup versus mustard, everybody's got an opinion and everybody's educated enough to discuss it,” Goldberg, who is team ketchup, says. “I put ketchup on my rice, I put ketchup on my eggs, I put ketchup on everything.” An attorney, who specializes in real estate law, Goldberg finds he has a really nice balance between his career and his passion project. Law is extremely serious; “‘Respect the Chain' is fun and upbeat. Growing up Jewish in New York City, Goldberg says a love of food is in his DNA. He enjoys traveling and exploring chain restaurants throughout the country and around the world. He also prioritizes sharing his Jewishness, especially during the holidays. “We had the Adam Sandler song, we had that one “Rugrats” episode for Passover, but that was pretty much it [in my youth],” he says. “If I've got a platform, I'm going to make sure everybody sees some Jewish content.” Sam E. Goldberg shares “Respect the Chain's” origins story, why he loves chains - hint: he's a creature of habit, and restaurant best practices. Goldberg also shares his latest discovery, Ratatouille, the movie and the dish. Get his mom's recipe for ratatouille at JewishJournal.com/podcasts. Join Erik and Tage this week as they are joined by Bryan and Olivia as they discuss their favorite Jungle Cruise jokes, what stunt shows the would make based off of an existing IP, what chain restaurants they would add to the parks, and the rides, shows, and experiences they think Disney never should have done. Support the podcast by going to https://www.thehubcrawl.com/support. Question 1: Although I'm sure there's more to it, the story goes that they started adding jokes to The Jungle Cruise after Walt heard a family say they didn't want to ride it because they had already done it before. Even as we approach its 70th anniversary along with the park, they're still constantly coming up with new jokes. My question is, what's your favorite Jungle Cruise joke? Question 2: I have Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular on my mind. If you could make a stunt show off another Disney property, what would it be? Question 3: DTD 2.0 seems to be adding in more chain restaurants/stores. What chain restaurant (can be a local or national chain) would you add into a Disney park/resort, where would it go, would it have a theme etc. Question 4: What is a ride/show/expereince that Disney Parks should never have done in the parks? Bonus Question: Alright - the inspiration for this is somewhat selfish as I am working on my "must do list" for WDW and it got me curious - what are your top 3 non- theme park must do things when visiting DLR or WDW. It can be something at any of the hotels, Disney Springs, Downtown Disney, etc? Basically anything that is on Disney property but not inside the gates of a one of the 6 theme parks.
At a time when casual dining chains struggle with inflation, shifting consumer habits, and competition from fast food, some such as Chili's are making a huge comeback! By selling consumers on their value meals and simple menu options and then using the power of social media to do it, we're seeing chain restaurants gain favor again. Which restaurant chain is your favorite, and which would you like to see make a comeback in New England? Sherif Mityas, a restaurant industry expert and the CEO of Brix Holdings, a multi-brand franchising company that owns Friendly's among other chains, joined us to discuss!Listen to WBZ NewsRadio on the NEW iHeart Radio app and be sure to set WBZ NewsRadio as your #1 preset!

Taco Bell Is the Most Creative Fast Food Restaurant—But At What Cost? Taco Bell is the fast-food chain that isn't afraid to get weird. Over the years, they've served up bold (and sometimes questionable) menu items like the Naked Chicken Chalupa, the Firecracker Burrito, and even a Kit Kat Quesadilla. But alongside its reputation for creativity, Taco Bell has a messy history—food recalls, bizarre marketing stunts, and legal battles that only Taco Bell could pull off. In this episode, comedian Priya Pappu joins me to unpack the history of America's most inventive fast-food chain. We dive into how Taco Bell was founded, its strangest discontinued items, its failed upscale spin-off, and the time it got sued for serving horse meat in Europe (yikes). We also check Yelp reviews for the Taco Bell we visited—because people have some thoughts. Also, VyVy Nguyen is back and here to read a fan-submitted What's Going On Over There from the show's Discord server! "Fine" Dining is now on video! Head on over to my YouTube to WATCH this episode! IN THIS EPISODE: ✔️ Taco Bell's Origins – Started by a guy named Bell, but not a taco in sight ✔️ The Strangest Menu Items – From Cheetos burritos to Pop Rocks-style tacos ✔️ Marketing Stunts & PR Disasters – They tried to “buy” the Liberty Bell?? ✔️ Healthier Than You Think? – The surprising facts about Taco Bell's menu ✔️ Lawsuits & Recalls – E. coli outbreaks, metal shavings, & food safety scares ✔️ Yelp Chaos – Unhinged customer reviews of the Taco Bell we ate at
