In this episode:Have you come to believe that work and life are the same for everyone or at least in the western world, AND that you just have to “do your best”, “battle through it”, and make compromises, which often means that you end up chasing goals and expectations that society, culture and others lay out for you, when it's not what you truly need or want? That was me. In this episode I share my own personal story on how my body gave me very clear signals that I was not living true to myself. Even to the point where my digestive system shut down completely.I also share how I've now learnt to listen to my body and what it says, and how this helps me make daily decisions about what food I eat, the work I do, the movement I fit into my day, and the people I spend my time with.My body's physically breakdown was the trigger that set me on the path to my own career and life change, and its messages are the reason my coaching business is called Live True. Death and resurrection aren't just a part of the Christian story, but the shape for the Christian life. As in the waters of baptism we die to sin. We also experience his resurrecting power in our everyday lives as we wait for the culmination of all God's promises when Christ returns. SCRIPTURE: Philippians 3:15-4:3

Lisa Lucca is the author of Ashes to Ink: A Memoir, a story of heartache and the power of forgiveness, about her narcissistic father who came out as gay, and mother who did not want people to know, in their midwestern town, that she was the straight partner of a gay man. Lisa co-authored an epistolary memoir, You Are Loved, with her partner, Mark Mathias. Her memoir with her husband is a beautiful love story, told over the course of ten years via emails betwee the two that delved into life's biggest issues and the choices that shape our lives. She also was a #Blogher17 Voice of the Year Honoree (for her blog piece, "Two Roofs, One House"), and is published in several publications and anthologies, most recently in the collection, Crone Rising. Lisa's weekly public radio show, Live True, has streamed globally since 2019. Her fifteen-year career in the entertainment industry included positions at LucasFilm and in production management on a world tour with Janet Jackson. She reinvented her life during the time in which she was a single mother, and became a life coach when laid off after 9/11. "To make a living, I became a life coach," Lisa says. "To make a life, I opened my dream palette to do my radio show and writing." While acknowledging that change can be scary, Lisa believes that it is more painful to live a life you hate than to search for a life you love. She left her first husband with only $100 in her pocket and with a three-year-old son, and never looked back. She is flourishing in the southern New Mexico desert mountains by living a creative life. Her coaching and speaking focuses on empowering women to live true to who they are, especially in mid-life and beyond. "Do you want to be an 'older woman' or an 'elder woman,'" Lisa asks. Lisa believes that, in our 40s, we learn more about who we are, in our 50s we practice being who we are, and in our 60s we come into our third chapter, in which we can be the creators who no longer settle for less than we deserve. If we do not create--whether it is a garden or a community or something elese of ourselves--we fester. "All of us have the need within us to create something." Do you ever feel like you're bending over backward, living your life for everyone else? If you ever feel like you don't know who you are but you know who everyone else is or if you've always been the good girl and are realizing this way of being is no longer true for you, THIS EPISODE IS FOR YOU. In this episode, I'm sharing my personal experience of going from the Good Girl to the True Girl. Key Takeaways: -You always have two choices: stay where you are or move forward. -Being the good girl isn't necessarily being the true girl. This was a fun episode and great conversation with Ora Nadrich. She is an expert on mindfulness, a mindfulness coach, founder and president of The Institute for Transformational Thinking, an international speaker, and author of 3 books (available on Amazon). She defines mindfulness as present moment awareness, which to me is a very clear way of stating it. We had a wide-ranging conversation about mindfulness, mysticism, the distinction between being a thought/mindfulness coach versus a life coach, how to bring greater awareness into your life, replacing negative thoughts with positive thoughts, and especially about the power of opening up to a greater experience of life and a more magical way of being through present moment awareness. Allowing more mysticism into your life is opening the door to the spiritual and to higher consciousness. You can learn more about her and contact her at OraNadrich.com. After our conversation, I concluded with 4 minutes of my thoughts on our shared process of learning that has been going on over many episodes of Our Spiritual Life. We need to keep progressing toward the awakening and evolution of mankind as a whole, so I will continue to add insights and teachings about how we can do that.Support the show
Each individual is bold, fearless, and audacious enough to live their life on their terms. Therefore, take action if you have the nagging suspicion that you are not living a life true to yourself. Now is not the time to wait for the right moment. The time has come because you deserve to live your life according to your terms. The task will not be easy. At times, you may lose friends or alienate those supposed to adore you. However, it is well worth the effort once you see through it and make your way through it. This is your journey. Have the courage to live true to yourself.Ask – Inquire about who you are and what you'd like to achieve. Also, ask yourself if you want to perceive yourself through the eyes of others, with their expectations and judgments of you.Decide - You either write your own story or are a character in someone else's. You must choose which one you prefer to be.Plus & Minus – Letting your true self emerge will bring you a sense of calm and contentment. However, not everyone in your life will be on board with that.

It's always good to thank God. After reading today's Gospel, one thing we may thank God for is that we are not like this Pharisee who brags that he is “not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector” (Luke 18:11)... Lisa Lucca was enjoying what anyone might call an idyllic 1970s Midwest family life. But as an adolescent, the image of the ideal was shattered when she learned her father was gay, beginning a long journey from confusion and shame to acceptance. Lisa shares this experience in her work as a life coach and with listeners on her weekly radio talk show, Live True. Lisa has contributed to several anthologies, including Crone Rising. She is co-author of an epistolary memoir, You Are Loved, with her partner, Mark, and was a #Blogher Voice of the Year Honoree. Lisa has just completed her memoir, Ashes to Ink: A Memoir, which chronicles her complicated relationship with her father and her search for love with a wounded heart.

Danielle and Erin are joined by generous and powerful human being, Drea Dalzell. Drea shares her incredible path through recovery, her time in prison, and how her dogs have supported her in her journey. Be sure to listen to Drea's podcast "Live True" and find her on Instagram @live.true.active From Drea: Born in New Mexico, raised in Arizona, now a Minnesota transplant. I have lived in MN for 8 years. I have an older brother, who is one of my best friends. My parents are divorced, but both are very active in my life. I moved to MN because of my wonderful husband, who I met in AZ while he was attending school. We moved in 2012, and live in Sartell/St. Cloud. I am a recovering alcoholic of 10 years, I once struggled with addiction and the true feeling of non-belonging. As I have moved into a life of sobriety, I learned about the importance of community, especially a community of strong women. I am very particular about the relationships that I keep these days. Sobriety has brought me to a yoga practice, self reflection and growth, and most importantly turning that outward. I am the mother to two beautiful little girls, Eva (4) and Aria (2). By day, I work in the busy payroll industry, by night I am a game changer. I recently started a podcast of my own, nowhere near expert level, but I'm working on finding where and how I want my voice to be heard. I know deep down that I have a purpose to share and work in community, but I am only now working on the how and why. I have been married for 5 years, and have be together with my husband for almost 10. He has taught me the value of information, process and animal facts. He's a pretty amazing dude. In a nutshell, my motto is "Live true." Depth and raw authenticity is my jam. I'm about breaking down walls, and building up relationships.
Do you live an authentic life? Do you worry or feel the need to do something that it is not aligned with your values just to please other people or not to offend them?

One of the 5 regrets of the dying is that they weren't true to themselves and spent too much time living for the approval of others. David couldn't beat Goliath by following expectations. He couldn't wear Saul's armor and do it the way that Saul would have done it…he "wasn't used to it".Support the show (https://thisis.church/give)
