Steve chatted to Emma Timmis. Emma is a collector of World Records and aiming for another next week - the longest ‘distance' on a treadmill in 48 hours. Apart from running across Africa (twice), Emma has also roller-skated across the Netherlands, gained the World Records for the longest distance travelled on an elliptical cycle and fastest to run the length of New Zealand... and a few other things that you can read about on her website. We talk about cruelty to animals - mainly herself. Other animals also get mentioned - dogs, cats, mosquitoes, elephants, rhinoceros. We also talk about mindset, personal challenges,  dinner, dessert and whether she likes running - spoiler alert... she does. The big question... "how?" is touched on... to a point. Find out more about Emma on https://www.emmatimmis.com/ and if you want to join the party in Christchurch next week get in touch on FB or IG: https://www.facebook.com/emmatimmis https://www.instagram.com/emma.timmis/

Kia Ora e te whānau. When you need wisdom, you don't always find it in a yurt on the shores of Lake Hawea. But sometimes you do, and in this episode Eugene and Matt certainly did. Aerobic Edge head honcho Adam Keen interrupts a much-needed holiday to drop wisdom about coaching Brooke Thomas and Emma Timmis, managing yourself in the summer heat, the appropriate mindset for training, and life. Adam talks us through the epic adventures he has had over the summer and hammers home the point repeatedly that ‘staying savage' (just, you know, google him) doesn't equate to ‘being stupid'. With the uncertainty that we are all facing at the moment with Omicron rearing its ugly head and many big races looking dicey at best, Adam's simple and stoic advice is just the tonic you need. For those of you last week who suggested an Adam Keen drinking game it's time to pour yourself a cold one. Enjoy! It's not something that many people would be able to pull off. But we spoke to Emma Timmis, a Kiwi who is doing just that. But she's doing the length of the country over 21 days! Which equals to be about 100km per day. Unreal. Ben's daughter posed a very interesting question which we spoke about this morning: If you knew about Covid one month before it hit in 2020, what would you tell yourself, or what would you do? Finally, we spoke to Kimberley from The Channelling - she's a psychic. We got her to predict whether we will land two shots down into a basketball hoop, aiming from Eden Park's roof. We're attempting this on Wednesday, and if we land 2 balls in the hoop, we have an epic prize to give away. An all-access pass to all of Eden Park's events in 2022, plus $1,000!

Myself and Emma Timmis headed off to run Hadrian’s Wall at the end of August and I wanted to share more of the story with you. So whilst I was away I thought about what the best way to do this was.  Although my interviews are very informal and relaxed they do take me a long time to edit. At the moment I don’t have the capacity to edit two full podcast episodes a week. So instead, as a compromise I thought I’d upload a raw, unedited conversation of what my previous guests have been up to since we last spoke.  So in essence…..Tough Girl Extra is an extra podcast episode that will be happening on an adhoc basic, it’s going to be released on a Thursday #ToughGirlThursday at 7am UK time. Tough Girl Challenges is all about motivating and inspiring women and girls. In this episode I interview Emma Timmis who is a phenomenal endurance athlete. Emma has done some extreme adventures where she’s pushed her body and mind to her limits.    Emma was the winner of the National Adventurer of the Year Award in 2015 where she was recognised for her achievement in physical endeavour by running across Africa!  This journey took 89 days, starting at the Atlantic Ocean at Henries Bay in Namibia with her running all the way across to the Indian Ocean at Pemba in Mozambique a total distance of 3,974km.   Emma has just made her way via bike from Manchester down to Dover, where she is catching the ferry over to France, she will then be cycling over to Italy to do a month of rock climbing before cycling home. We recorded this interview while she was waiting to board the ferry, so you’ll have to excuse the noises in the background!   In this podcast, Emma talks about how she got a love for adventure and fitness from her family and how these big challenges came about, she talks about the training and the impact on her body and mind. She also provides advice and tips for those who are looking to get out of their comfort zone.    Through her adventures, Emma has also raised a lot of money for two charities (RSPCA & The Seed Project) they are charities that are close to her heart and she explains how they have benefited from the money.   It was clear from interviewing Emma that she’s a passionate believer in getting more women and girls to be active. It doesn’t have to be massive challenges, but they do have to be fun!   Please see more about Emma by visiting her Website www.emmatimmis.com and she is also on Facebook and twitter @runemma.    To keep up to date with Tough Girl Challenges, subscribe to the newsletter via the website www.toughgirlchallenges.com     If you’ve enjoyed this podcast please take a few minutes to leave a review and share with your friends!
