Today on The Social, we debate the merits of a new creatine-packed breakfast cereal being marketed to men. And, would you be upset if your boyfriend made himself a cup of coffee every morning but never offered you one? Then, an estimated one in ten fathers of newborns experience postpartum depression. Plus, would you cancel a first date with someone if you didn’t like their outfit? Featuring Jamar McNeil, the host of ‘The Drive Home with Jamar’ on Toronto’s Chum 104.5.
The principal drive home test: if you can't name one thing that mattered today, you're in reactive mode. Here's the fix. Principal burnout doesn't start in a crisis. It starts in the car at 6pm, when you've done a lot but moved nothing forward — the instructional leadership, the culture work, the long game stuff that actually changes outcomes never got touched. That's not a productivity problem. It's an access problem. This episode introduces selfmentorship — the practice of being your own first coach instead of waiting for permission-based PD, the right mentor, or the right conference to land in your lap. You'll hear how Elaine, an AVID coordinator stepping into a brand new school, used 90 minutes of clear thinking to walk in day one with a real plan instead of firefighting her way through week six. Then you'll hear how to join the next Selfmentorship Sprint on Thursday, May 28 at 7pm Eastern — a live one-hour training plus 90 days of Digital Danny access for $100. The Dad Edge Podcast (formerly The Good Dad Project Podcast)
In this episode, I sit down with Jason Reid — founder of Tell My Story Foundation, producer of the documentary films Tell My Story, What I Wish My Parents Knew, and Shift, author of seven books, Iron Man athlete, and a father who lost his 14-year-old son Ryan to suicide in 2018 while on vacation with his wife. Jason was back for the second time on Dad Edge, and this conversation went somewhere neither of us expected. We open with AI — why the easy button is robbing kids of the growth that comes from struggle, and why an AI chatbot girlfriend who only says nice things is the most dangerous mental health threat facing kids right now. We get into the warning signs parents miss, why the most at-risk kids often look like the quarterback or the cheerleader, and the clouds analogy that reframes everything about how you try to help a struggling kid. Jason is direct: stop trying to fix it. Ask about the clouds. Listen longer. And when they're ready to talk, they'll talk on their terms — almost always side by side, never face to face. We also get into one of the most unconventional but practical parenting conversations this show has ever had: how to teach your kids to fight back with their words. Not their fists. Their words. It's called verbal self-defense — and it may be the most underrated gift a father can give his kid. And then there's Shift — Jason's newest documentary about kids who protect their mental health by having a passion that's entirely their own. The message is simple and urgent: your kid needs an anchor. Help them find it before they need it most. Timeline Summary [0:00] Introduction to the Dad Edge mission and the movement to raise leaders of families and communities [1:04] Why AI is the new mental health boogeyman — and why the chatbot girlfriend is the most dangerous thing on a kid's phone right now [4:15] You rob yourself of growth when you take the easy path — Jason's songwriting process and why the journey is the whole point [7:34] AI will make you smarter or dumber — it's entirely about how you use it [11:14] Introducing Jason Reid — founder of Tell My Story Foundation, back for the second time on Dad Edge [12:02] What happened to Ryan — a 14-year-old son lost to suicide in 2018 while Jason and his wife were on vacation [15:58] The choice Jason made — stay married, stay working, stay focused, and turn the pain into purpose [16:20] Tell My Story on Amazon Prime, What I Wish My Parents Knew in schools, and Shift — three films born from one loss [18:31] The warning signs parents miss — and why stopping the shower is often the first one to look for [19:53] The most at-risk kids look like the quarterback and the cheerleader — not the dark quiet kid in the corner [20:59] The clouds analogy — why telling your kid the sky is blue makes them stop talking [21:51] Ask about the clouds. Ask how they look, how they feel, whether they come and go. Don't give advice first. [23:30] Don't rush to your kid tonight and say "we need to talk about your mental health" — they will shut you out [24:14] Kids talk on their terms — when it's inconvenient for you, side by side, never face to face [26:40] Extend the talk — take the long way home, go for ice cream, keep moving so they keep talking [30:55] Larry's experience being bullied — and what he battles as a dad when his kid faces the same thing [32:28] Jason's counter-cultural advice: a bully will continue until your kid punches back — verbally or physically [34:49] Teach your kids verbal self-defense — find the bully's insecurity and make it funny in front of everyone [37:04] Brad Williams the dwarf comedian — and the greatest gift his dad gave him [40:21] Coach them on their comeback lines before it happens again — because it will happen again [45:30] Why kids today are under more pressure than any generation before — war, climate change, college costs, social media [50:45] Shift — what the film is about and why every kid needs a passion that has nothing to do with school or friends [53:20] Jason's Iron Man races — came in last every time and didn't care, because it was his thing [54:14] What did you love doing as a kid that you stopped? — and why that question could change everything [57:14] Larry and his 18-year-old learning guitar together — and why struggling alongside your kid is the whole point Five Key Takeaways An AI chatbot that only says nice things to your kid is not a friend — it's a dangerous distortion of reality. The real world is going to push back, and kids raised on pure affirmation won't be ready for it. Don't tell a struggling kid the sky is blue. Ask them about the clouds. Ask how they look, how they feel, whether they come and go. You fix things in this space by listening, not advising. Kids will talk on their terms — side by side, in the car, on a walk, when it's inconvenient for you. When they start talking, extend the moment. Don't race home. Teach your kids verbal self-defense. A bully who gets laughed at stops. A bully whose insecurity gets named in front of everyone goes finds a different target. This is a skill you can practice at home. Every kid needs an anchor — a passion that's entirely theirs, not school, not friends, not a screen. Help them find it before the dark season hits, because the kids who have it are the ones who make it through. Jason Reid lost his son Ryan in 2018. He didn't see it coming. And he spent the next seven years turning that loss into the most important work of his life — so other parents don't have to stand where he stood. Ask about the clouds. Take the long way home. Teach them to fight back with words. And help them find their thing. Because the kids who have something to wake up for are the ones who make it through. Go out and live legendary.

Trinidad Chambliss and the Ole Miss offense pulled off a first against a Kirby Smart defense. "My wife and I are considering Benton, Little Rock, or Hot Springs (including Hot Springs Village). We have family in Little Rock. We want to find 5-10 acres." "Hot Springs Village is appealing to us because of all the golf courses, but we'd like to have a few acres. We know Benton is the nearest town to Little Rock. Would it be feasible for us to own a lot inside HSV so we could play golf, but to find some acreage between HSV and Benton?" "What is the drive like between HSV and Benton?" "We seriously considered HSV, but when we found out we couldn't find acreage so we could have horses, we decided we needed to look elsewhere. You've mentioned the drive from HSV to Benton. Do you think we might find something in that area?" These are just a few of the curiosities I've had about this area. It's exciting that so many of you are working hard to get this phase of life right! While Hot Springs Village isn't ideal for everybody, it seems some are fond of this area of Arkansas. So today, let's take a drive back from Benton to Hot Springs Village so you can see for yourself the drive down Highway 5 once we exit I-30 in Benton. • Join Our Free Email Newsletter • Subscribe to Our YouTube Channel (click that bell icon, too) • Join Our Facebook Group • Support Our Sponsors (Click on the images below to visit their websites.) __________________________________________ __________________________________________

This episode originally aired on May 16, 2022. On March 26, 1981, 33-year-old William “Bill” Jamison followed his usual routine. He spent the day at Haug Die Casting Company in Kenilworth, New Jersey, where he worked as vice president of production. After work, he grabbed dinner at a restaurant, then stopped at the Chez Lounge inside the Linden Lanes Bowling Alley to enjoy drinks and conversation with friends. His last stop was the St. George Diner in Linden around 1 AM. He ate a quick meal, left about half an hour later, and was never seen again. When Bill failed to arrive at the office the next morning, something completely out of character, his coworkers grew alarmed. One even went to his apartment, but there was no sign of him. They contacted his sister, Katie, who immediately began calling hospitals and reached out to law enforcement.More than 40 years later, Bill's disappearance remains a mystery. Over the years, there have been reported sightings of him in other states and whispers of a possible mob connection. To this day, his family is still searching for answers. If you have any information about the disappearance of William Jamison, please contact the Roselle Park Police Department at (908) 245-2300 or the New Jersey State Police Missing Persons Unit at (609) 882-2000.If you have a missing loved one that you would like to have featured on the show, please fill out our case submission form.Follow The Vanished on social media at:FacebookInstagramTwitterPatreonSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

On this week's show look at five trends that are shaping home theaters in 2025 and we look at what will drive home automation into the next decade. Pulse we read your emails and take a look at the week's news. News: Kaleidescape Introduces the New Strato M Movie Player Police shut down Minecraft movie screening after audience trashes theater SVS 5000 R|Evolution Series Subwoofer Other: When Google Assistant is phased out, what happens to our smart speakers? Here are Five Trends Shaping Home Theater Experiences in 2025: 1. Immersive Audio Systems: Dolby Atmos and DTS:X continue to dominate, with more homes adopting multi-dimensional sound setups. Ceiling speakers and soundbars with upward-firing drivers are increasingly popular, creating a cinema-like audio bubble. 2. 8K Resolution Adoption: While 4K remains standard, 8K TVs and projectors are gaining traction as prices drop and content becomes more available. Upscaling tech also enhances older media, making the jump to 8K more appealing. 3. Smart Integration: Home theaters are syncing up with smart home ecosystems—think voice-controlled lighting, motorized screens, and AI-driven content recommendations. Systems like Google Home or Alexa are seamlessly tied to AV receivers and streaming devices. 4. Modular and Compact Designs: Space-saving solutions are on the rise. All-in-one projectors with built-in streaming, or modular furniture with hidden speakers, cater to smaller living spaces without sacrificing quality. 5. Gaming-Centric Features: With next-gen consoles and PCs pushing boundaries, low-latency displays (120Hz+ refresh rates) and variable refresh rate (VRR) support are must-haves. Home theaters are doubling as gaming hubs, blending entertainment modes. Will AI Drive Home Automation into the Next Decade? One of the biggest advancements in home automation technology in recent years is the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning into smart home systems. This has taken home automation beyond simple remote control and scheduling to a level where devices can learn from user habits, adapt to preferences, and make intelligent decisions autonomously. Those who are fans of AI point to smart thermostats like the Nest or Ecobee and claim that these devices don't just follow a preset schedule anymore—they analyze your temperature preferences, daily routines, and even local weather patterns to optimize heating and cooling. Over time, they adjust themselves to save energy while keeping you comfortable, often without any manual input. But this isn't really asking Ai to do much. Once you set a thermostat with your preferences it just needs to determine whether you are home or away and go into the appropriate mode. There is nothing revolutionary or even AI about it. However, AI-powered hubs like Amazon's Alexa, Google Home, or Apple's HomeKit have gotten smarter with natural language processing and interoperability. They c an now coordinate multiple devices—lights, locks, cameras, appliances—through a single voice command or trigger complex routines based on contextual cues like, “I'm home” could unlock the door, turn on lights, and start the coffee maker. The latest advancements also include predictive behavior, where systems anticipate needs—like dimming lights when it's movie time or locking doors when you leave—based on historical data. What's making this possible is the combination of faster processors, cheaper sensors, and cloud computing, alongside AI models that can crunch data in real time. Add in 5G and Matter (the new universal smart home standard), and you've got faster, more reliable communication between devices, even across different brands. But a real game-changer is edge AI—processing data locally on devices rather than in the cloud. This boosts speed, privacy, and reliability, even if your internet drops. Picture a security camera that instantly recognizes a package delivery and unlocks the door for the courier, all without checking with the cloud first. So what do you think will drive home automation in the future?
