La obsesión nunca es buena, y menos si uno es agente de la ley y pretende configurar los hechos a su manera. Actuar como un dios inflexible y cruel, manipulador, Max, excelente Michel Piccoli, fuma como si se le fuera la vida en cada calada, lívido y mortuorio, no quiere fracasar más. El antiguo juez de instrucción, ahora policía, se ha propuesto atrapar a los criminales en delito flagrante, aunque para eso tenga que inducir al crimen a unos malhechores de poca monta, unos chatarreros que se sacan cuatro perras con chanchullos varios. A diferencia de la road movie anterior dirigida por Sautet, A todo riesgo, con el icónico Lino Ventura, Max y los chatarreros se conduce con un tono claustrofóbico, un polizonte perverso juega a demiurgo con unos pobres diablos. A lo largo del film van apareciendo personajes que aportan sustancia, impagable el encuentro entre Caín y Abel, o Max y Abel – Bernard Fresson- , el hombre del sombrero engaña al viejo conocido, mientras degustan el segundo Pernod en una cafetería parisina. Y a los 30 minutos más o menos surge la deidad, la prostituta reina de Nanterre y confidente del policía. Romy Scheider y Michel Piccoli están espléndidos .la simbiosis y el misterio de su relación llevan este policiaco a una dimensión diferente. Max quiere utilizar a esa mujer para su objetivo, y ahí entrará otra obsesión que quizá el agente del orden no esperaba, a partir de ahí el monstruo se humaniza, la bestia se enamorará. Sautet delinea en su cine un acercamiento especial a los seres humanos, Daniel Auteil y Emmanuelle Beart cruzaban miradas al final de la magnífica Un CorazOn en invierno, del mismo modo Lily y Max quedarán en otro momento para culminar su affaire, quizá en otra vida. For this week's episode of the podcast, we watched director Brian De Palma's 1996 adaptation of Mission: Impossible, starring Tom Cruise, Jon Voight, Henry Czerny (Kittridge!), Emmanuelle Béart, Jean Reno, Ving Rhames, Kristin Scott Thomas and Vanessa Redgrave. It was shot by frequent De Palma collaborator Stephen H. Burum and edited by Paul Hirsch. Screenplay by David Koepp and Robert Towne. Mission: Impossible, based on the television series, was the inaugural project of Tom Cruise's production company, and the Mission: Impossible franchise has become a core part of Cruise's celebrity career. The film was generally well-received by critics, although there were complaints about its convoluted plot, and was one of the biggest hits of 1996, grossing nearly $181 million on a budget of $45 million.In Mission: Impossible, Cruise plays Ethan Hunt, a member of the Impossible Missions Force who is on the run after his entire team — including its leader, Jim Phelps, played by John Voight — is killed in a failed mission to obtain a secretive list of every undercover CIA agent. When Hunt learns that the mission was actually a staged hunt for a mole within the IMF — and that the real mole is still out there, seeking the list — he goes on the run in an effort to obtain the list for himself, expose the mole, and regain his freedom. To do so, he recruits his own Impossible Mission Team — comprised of Ving Rhames, Jean Reno and Emmanuelle Beart — and stages a break-in at CIA headquarters in Langley. Writer and director Stephen Lance’s first feature MY MISTRESS is an impressionistic view of his adolescence. But if you want more details than that - it’s a firm ‘no’. He holds sacred the complicit pact between audience and the film to maintain the integrity of the illusion of storytelling. What he is willing to share, however, is the difficulties in collaboration, seeing the DNA of his main character, Maggie in the luminous Emmanuelle Beart, directing actors with differing techniques and how he draws upon the greats of European cinema.
