HACK THE PLANET!Thirty years ago, that was the catchphrase for a high-energy youth culture movie focusing on a diverse crew of good-looking, well-dressed, "teenage" hackers in New York City.  All these kids wanna do via modems and computers is to have fun....until they discover a criminal conspiracy with plans to use a computer virus which eventually result in an ecological disaster.  Directed by Iain Softely (Backbeat, K-Pax, The Skeleton Key), this techno-fueled romp eventually became a cult classic powered by its danceable soundtrack (Massive Attack, Prodigy, Orbital) and its cast of up-and-comers including Jonny Lee Miller, Angelina Jolie, Jesse Bradford, Laurence Mason, and Matthew Lillard.  So let's rewind back to a specific time AND place....when the only options available for enterprising youth....were to Boot Up or Shut Up!Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a textSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Acclaimed Oscar-nominated director Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, The Whale, The Wrestler) returns to the big screen with what MIGHT be his most audience-friendly caper yet....this is the story of a burned-out ex-baseball player named Hank (Oscar-nominee Austin Butler) who unexpectedly finds himself embroiled in a dangerous struggle for survival of late '90's New York City.  Upon doing his neighbor Russ (Matt Smith) a favorite while he goes out of town, Hank soon has various unsavory characters who come calling....and the only people who can apparently help him are his long-suffering girlfriend/medic Yvonne (Zoe Kravitz) and NYPD Detective Roman (Oscar-Winner Regina King) who's on the case.  Also along for the ride during this increasingly violent crime comedy/drama are Griffin Dunne, Bad Bunny, Action Bronson, Carol Kane, Liev Schreiber, and Vincent D'Onofrio. Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a textSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

The 1980s was a changing time not only for McDonald's but for the entire fast food industry. Competition had become cutthroat--and that was just for burgers. But now, the Pizza industry, led by the big three; Pizza Hut, Dominoes, and Little Cesasers, has grown at an astonishing rate.  McDonald's had found success with a few new items, but one new burger turned out to be a pretty big flop. They needed something to get back on track, improve their night-time dining, and maybe divert some of that traffic away from the Big Three and back to the Golden Arches. Maybe they could beat Big Pizza at their own game. This set the stage for McDonald's pizza; a huge swing in the late 80s that has origins going back to 1986. But "McPizza" wasn't the success McDonald's had hoped for. This is the story of the rise and fall of McDonald's pizza. Short Circuit Movie Review: Patreon.com/80s

From John Leguizamo imitating Jim Carrey's The Mask, to shockingly bad CGI, the two get into the not-so-good, the pretty dang bad, and the stupendously ugly. It's a trip! Topics:(PATREON EXCLUSIVE) 34-minutes discussing Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU as Dr. Doom, and playing a trivia game called "Boo or False?" where, after guessing true or false, Pastor Will Rose has to utilize the trivia fact as a sermon illustration. (PATREON EXCLUSIVE)Will Rose shares a brief history of how the Lord cultivated his enjoyment of comic books into a means for evangelism. Also, surfing! As is tradition with most Party Pleaser episodes, the movie begins with a lore-dump to make sure the audience knows what's going on.The filmmaking, aesthetic, and basically the whole package feels like a TV-production, not a Hollywood blockbuster. Will & Melvin talk about the shockingly bad CGI, something that precedes the film in a lot of online film spaces. The subtitles for the film were often adult in nature compared to the actual film, leading Melvin to believe the project was made "PG-13" during editing. Will finally realizes why he can't stand John Leguizamo's Clown; he's doing his version of Jim Carrey's The Mask. The final fight scene is incomprehensible. Good luck understanding what's happening.Recommendations:Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (2022) (Graphic Novel)Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 (2015) (Video Game)MAILBAG: Send questions with your first name and we'll answer them in future episodes! Apparently they were difficult on set... rude and crapped a lot. Then they starred in multiple TV shows and 126 million movies where they'd travel to different cities and get up to mischief, chase boys and twin swap. Should they be charged with making us obsessed with them somehow? We're also unpacking what has led to them being such private people today. There was a feud with Spencer Pratt (he was on The Hills if you don't remember his name) and they also unsurprisingly fight with each other... such typical twins. Twenty-five years ago, this high-energy German-language action thriller started to take the world by storm as it was also released in the U.S. becoming an instant cult phenomenon.  The story it quite simple: Manny (Moritz Bliebtreu) is a young drug courier living in Berlin who has just bungled an important money delivery.....he's scared and desperate, so who does his call?? Why his Flaming Red-haired girlfriend...the titular Lola played by Franka Potente.  She hangs up the phone and starts to....you guessed.....RUN to help him out  And run she does....across Berlin running into a variety of different characters whom she may or may already know....and thus kicks off a relatively short adventure which we see play out multiple times over, each version taking off in different directions.  As directed by Tom Tykwer (The International, Cloud Atlas) and with a catchy soundtrack loaded with catchy EDM, what results is is one of the more memorable graduates from the vaunted (cinematic) Class of '99!Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a Text Message.https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/
