Thank you for your partnership with us through Project23. Our text today is Judges 11:12–28. Then Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the Ammonites and said, "What do you have against me, that you have come to me to fight against my land?" And the king of the Ammonites answered the messengers of Jephthah, "Because Israel on coming up from Egypt took away my land, from the Arnon to the Jabbok and to the Jordan; now therefore restore it peaceably." Jephthah again sent messengers to the king of the Ammonites and said to him, "Thus says Jephthah: Israel did not take away the land of Moab or the land of the Ammonites, but when they came up from Egypt, Israel went through the wilderness to the Red Sea and came to Kadesh. Israel then sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, 'Please let us pass through your land,' but the king of Edom would not listen. And they sent also to the king of Moab, but he would not consent. So Israel remained at Kadesh. "Then they journeyed through the wilderness and went around the land of Edom and the land of Moab and arrived on the east side of the land of Moab and camped on the other side of the Arnon. But they did not enter the territory of Moab, for the Arnon was the boundary of Moab. Israel then sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, king of Heshbon, and Israel said to him, 'Please let us pass through your land to our country,' but Sihon did not trust Israel to pass through his territory, so Sihon gathered all his people together and encamped at Jahaz and fought with Israel. And the Lord, the God of Israel, gave Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they defeated them. So Israel took possession of all the land of the Amorites, who inhabited that country. And they took possession of all the territory of the Amorites from the Arnon to the Jabbok and from the wilderness to the Jordan. So then the Lord, the God of Israel, dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel; and are you to take possession of them? Will you not possess what Chemosh your god gives you to possess? And all that the Lord our God has dispossessed before us, we will possess. Now are you any better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? Did he ever contend against Israel, or did he ever go to war with them? While Israel lived in Heshbon and its villages, and in Aroer and its villages, and in all the cities that are on the banks of the Arnon, 300 years, why did you not deliver them within that time? I therefore have not sinned against you, and you do me wrong by making war on me. The Lord, the Judge, decide this day between the people of Israel and the people of Ammon." But the king of the Ammonites did not listen to the words of Jephthah that he sent to him. — Judges 11:12–28 Instead of rushing to war, Jephthah raises his voice. His first move is diplomacy, which requires some courage and confidence. As he engages with the Ammonite king, he realizes that he is being sold "fake news." Because fake news is not a new phenomenon. And he is using fake news to rally his troops and justify his invasion, but Jephthah calls him out. He recounts the truth about Israel's pilgrimage, God's hand in their victories, and that Israel never stole and parcel of Ammonite land. Jephthah knew the history, even as an illegitimate son, so he didn't need to distort the truth or negotiate out of fear. He stood firm, trusted the facts, and left the outcome up to God: "The LORD, the Judge, decide this day." Godly leaders never rush into battles that they can settle with truth. We live in a time where everyone is quick to argue, fight, and cancel—but wise leaders know when to pause, speak truth clearly, and let God be their defender.. Sometimes we wrongly believe silence means weakness or that diplomacy means compromise. But truth is a weapon. When someone lies about you, when accusations come, when history gets twisted—don't panic. Stand on what God has done. Like Jephthah, rehearse God's past faithfulness, cling to His Word, and let God be the Judge. Maybe you're facing a relational conflict, workplace injustice, or someone twisting your story. Your instinct might be to lash out, prove your point, or fight fire with fire. But remember: truth is stronger than lies, and God is the ultimate Judge. When we stand on his justice, we fight from a place of confidence, not insecurity. ASK THIS: Do I rush to fight back, or do I stand on truth first? How often do I trust God to be the Judge instead of trying to play judge myself? Am I confident enough in God's past faithfulness to trust Him with present conflicts? DO THIS: Before you step into a fight this week—pause. Ask: Can this be handled by truth, not conflict? Then, speak truth with clarity and leave the verdict to God. PRAY THIS: Lord, help me to trust You as the Judge of every situation. Teach me to stand firm in truth, to speak with wisdom, and to fight only the battles You call me to. Amen. PLAY THIS: "Defender."

A violent mob surrounds his house and demands the visitors, so the angels pull Lot inside, strike the men with blindness, and command him to flee at once. His sons in law laugh off the warning and Lot himself lingers, but mercy takes him by the hand and leads his family out, and while fire and brimstone fall on the plain, his wife looks back longingly and becomes a pillar of salt. Abraham's intercession is honored as Lot is spared, but compromise bears its own bitter harvest as his daughters, shaped by Sodom's brokenness, intoxicate their father and conceive Moab and Ammon, and yet even there grace refuses to quit since Ruth the Moabitess will be grafted into the line of David and ultimately Jesus. This episode is part 24 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon.This episode covers chapters 14-19 of the book of Alma. While Zeezrom and some people repent, the mob and the chief judge bind Alma and Amulek and imprison them. After months of torment, Alma and Amulek miraculously escape to Sidom. There they heal Zeezrom who had a horrible fever. They start a church there.Eventually, the two travel and run into Ammon and the sons of Mosiah who are now missionaries to the Lamanites. We then see an account of how Ammon became a servant of King Lamoni in the land of Ishmael of the Lamanites. As the power of God aids him, King Lamoni thinks Ammon might be the "Great Spirit." This gives Ammon the opportunity to give a history lesson and "gospel" presentation.King Lamoni prays and gets slain in the spirit for two days. After he wakes up, he gets slain in the spirit again, along with the queen, some servants, and Ammon himself. Are We Underestimating Praise?2 Chronicles 20:21-22 "After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the Lord and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: “Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever.”As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated.”In this chapter of Chronicles, God's people have armies coming to attack them from three different places.  Things were not looking good.  Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel son of Zechariah as he stood in the assembly.  He told the king and all the people of Judah that they shouldn't be afraid because they was not their fight, it was God's fight.  He told them to march down against the invading armies, but that they would not have to fight the battle.  This is where the verse picks up.  “After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the Lord and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: “Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever.”Jehoshaphat and his army were headed into what seemed like a hopeless battle.  There were three different armies waiting to destroy them and to take their land.  You would think they would have the soldiers lead them this battle.  Even if they trusted God, you would think just to be on the safe side you would have the soldiers go first.  However, King Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the Lord and to praise Him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out to face the armies.  “As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated.”Did you catch that last part?  It doesn't say once they started fighting the Lord gave them victory.  It doesn't say their enemy was defeated by their mighty hand.  It says as they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against their enemy and they were defeated.  They didn't even have to fight a single person.  They didn't have to lift their hands at all in this fight, they just needed to lift up their voices.   Do you have enemies that you need defeated?  Are you praising God now while you are in the middle of it, or are you waiting until you get out of it?  I have known that praise is important for some time know.  I have even done other episodes on how important it is to praise through the storm, not just after it is over.  However, I didn't know about this story.  I didn't know about God destroying three armies with praise alone.  Sometimes we are trying to fight our enemies on our own.  We know we need God and yet we ask Him for so much we feel we should try to do this one on our own.  Yet, instead of leading with praise we lead with anger, frustration, sadness, jealousy and whatever other emotions we are feeling in the moment.  Can you think of a time when you have charged into a situation with your emotions leading the way?  How did that work out for you?  For me, it never works out.  When I go into a situation on my own, without inviting the Lord to come with me, it never works out as I intended it to.  However, when I do think to praise the Lord while I am in the middle of a difficult situation, it always turns out well.  There are times when we think God has abandoned us.  We are praying and it does not seem like He is with  us. Maybe we are the ones who have abandoned God.  We may be praying, but are we praying with a hopeful heart?  Are we trusting God will come through for us when we pray?  Are we praising God for all He does for us?  God is working in our lives every single day, are we praising Him for that?  I talk a lot about gratitude because I think it is so important to go through life being grateful for what we have.  I think when we are grateful with what we have God blesses us with more.  Being grateful is also a great way to shift our mood if we are feeling sad, or having a bad day.  Sometimes all it takes is a perspective switch and we can turn our whole day around.  Praise is different from gratitude.  Sometimes we can be praising God for what we have and what He has done for us and yet praise is so much more than that.  We can also praise God fro who He is.  Sometimes we are in a situation where we may not want to or be able to praise God for the situation. For instance, in this verse God's people were not praising God for the situation they were in.  They were not grateful they had three armies coming after them.  They were praising God for “the splendor of His Holiness.”  They were praising God for who He is.  He is the the Fountain of Life.  He is the great “I AM.”  He is the Just One and He is the King of kings.  He is the Lord of Lords and He is the Light of the world.  He is the Lord our God.  He is the Way, the Truth and the Life.  How often are you praising God for simply being God?  How often are you spending time in prayer thanking and praising God for being everything you need Him to be?  Maybe the next time we are in a hard situation, instead of charging into the situation with our guns blazing, maybe we can lead with our praise.  Instead of leading with our anger, frustration, sadness, we can lead with our praise.  God is always there for us.  Let's be there for Him.  Let's give God the praise that He so rightly deserves.  The thought just came to me that not everyone knows how to praise God.  There is not specific way.  I love to listen to praise and worship music, which is really any Christian music.  I am also part of a prayer group and we praise outloud to the Lord thanking Him for all He has done and all he Is.  I say phrases such as those listed above, things such as, you are the Light of the World, You are the Word made flesh, You are the King of the Kings.  You can also think back to all you have and thank God for that one by one.  You can thank God for everyone He has brought into your life.  Praise is time spent with the Lord when you are either thanking Him for something or you are talking about all the reasons He is awesome!!  I challenge you to find some time in your day today and praise the Lord.  You can do it silently within your own heart, or you can shout if from the roof tops, and everything in between.  Whatever you feel comfortable with.  The more you praise the  more comfortable it will feel to you.  Also, the more you praise the more you will see God working in your life.  Dear Heavenly Father I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today.  Lord, help us to praise you more.  Put praise for you on our hearts so we long to do it.  Give us a thirst for praising you Lord.  It is so amazing how you defeated Judah's enemy when they started to praise you.  Lord, we have many enemies and we need you to defeat them.  Help us to praise you first instead of trying to fix it all our selves.  We love you Lord, you are so powerful.  You give Light to our lamps.  You straighten our crooked path.  You are always by our side and we am so grateful.  I ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, AmenThank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus.  I look forward to spending time with you on Monday.  Remember, Jesus loves you and so do I!  Have a blessed weekend. www.findingtruenorthcoaching.comCLICK HERE TO DONATECLICK HERE to sign up for Mentoring CLICK HERE to sign up for Daily "Word from the Lord" emailsCLICK HERE to sign up for my newsletter & receive a free audio training about inviting Jesus into your daily lifeCLICK HERE to buy my book Total Trust in God's Safe Embrace

2 Chronicles 20 records Jehoshaphat's outstanding leadership of his people and the prayer he offers when confronted by the great horde from Ammon, Moab and Edom. Jehoshaphat invokes the sentiments expressed in Solomon's prayer at the dedication of the Temple. And Judah's king receives assurance from Yahweh that Moses had been given when he was pursued by the might of Egypt, as they left for the Promised Land - see Exodus 14:13, "Stand still and see the salvation of Yahweh". Jehoshaphat responds with humble worship. As the princes of Judah praise the Almighty, God sets up an ambush for the enemy host, who panic and destroy one another. The spoil was so great that Judah took three days in gathering it. Then the grateful kingdom of Judah assemble in the valley of Berachah - meaning 'blessing' - to thank Yahweh for the victory. Jehoshaphat had ruled for 25 years and brought strength and stability to Judah. One final flaw at the end of his reign was the failed union with Ahaziah over the building of ships at Ezion-Geber (Eilat). God ends that disaster by destroying their combined navy. Daniel 2 occurs in the second year of Nebuchadnezzar BC 605 - this is the fourth year of Jehoiakim king of Judah. It is the year when the king of Judah burns the Bible. Our Sovereign's response is to reveal His purpose to a Gentile potentate. Daniel 2 is the skeleton and basis of biblical prophecy. Nebuchadnezzar dreams a disturbing dream and seeks from his wise men both the content of the dream and its interpretation. These wise men are exposed as frauds and the king orders their destruction. Daniel intercedes with the chief executioner and asks for an audience with king Nebuchadnezzar to explain the meaning of the dream. Daniel and his friends ask God to aid Daniel and bless them by revealing the dream to Daniel. The prophet tells his monarch, just as Joseph had assured Pharaoh (in Genesis 41), that dreams and their interpretations belong with the God of Israel. And that the Almighty chooses those through whom He will reveal His purposes. The dream is told in verses 31-34 and its interpretation is given from verses 37-45. The key to this prophecy is in verse 35 where we are told that the elements of the image are broken into pieces TOGETHER. The dream and its meaning outlines a succession of world empires, portrayed in the form of a terrifying warrior. The prophecy is from the time of Nebuchadnezzar to our time. The unveiling of the message speaks of the epoch when the kingdom of God is to be set up on earth displacing all previous empires. Babylon's Empire lasted till BC 535. - the head of gold. This Empire was replaced by the Medo-Persian Empire till BC 334 - the chest and arms of silver. The next dominating power was the Grecian Empire which lasted until BC 56 - the belly and thighs of bronze. The last world Empire was Roman and it continued till AD 1453 the iron legs. Notice the diminishing density of the parts of the image from the head to the feet. This image is unstable as it is top heavy. Since that date a divided state of the nations symbolised by the iron and clay feet (principally socialism and democratic powers). Verse 45 is the key to what the Almighty reveals to Nebuchadnezzar - "In the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which will never be destroyed" (see also Revelation 11 verse 15). The Omnipotent's agency will be His Son - the uncut stone power. The work is God's, not man's (Psalm 118 verses 22-26). Let us reflect on John Thomas' words in the 1847 author's preface of "Epis Israel", "The future movements of Russia are notable signs of the times. When Russia makes its grand move for the setting up of its image empire .. the stealthy advent of the King of Israel will be on the eve of becoming a reality.." Gog will be the head which will attempt to hold together the image in its final and failed invasion of Israel. This is what we are witnessing in its progressive unfolding today. Daniel is promoted in Nebuchadnezzar's administration. In John 20 we find Jesus risen from the dead, as discovered by the women who arrived early at his tomb. The women tell the Apostles, who remain sceptical. Peter and John ran to the sepulchre and find it empty (the younger John outrunning the older Peter). John stands at the sepulchre's entrance, taking in what he observes. But the ever impetuous and baffled Peter goes in. John sees evidence of the Lord's resurrection in the way the grave clothes were laying. Jesus' first appearance following his resurrection is to Mary Magdalene, who mistakes him for the gardener (an apt error as he is the one through whom Eden i.e. the paradise, or garden of God - will be restored). Our Lord tells her not to hinder i.e. delay him since he has not yet ascended to his Father. Read aloud verse 17 - pause and ponder. Jesus was not God - he was a grand, incomparable and glorious man (read Psalm 45: and Hebrews 2). Later that night Jesus appears to his Apostles and gives them the Holy Spirit. "Doubting" Thomas is not with them and refuses to believe their report without physically putting his fingers into the wounds in Jesus' hands and side. Eight days later our Lord provides Thomas with that proof. Verses 30-31 state the objective of the narrative written. Slowly read those verses aloud and ponder their words. Chapter 21 contains the eighth sign John outlines in the catching of the 153 great fish. It occurs in Galilee and the chapter also deals with our Lord's resolution with Peter over Peter's threefold denial of his Master. The miracle reflects the time of the Apostle's call to follow the Lord. The 153 fish certainly represent those who are saved in the gospel net. The gematria of the Hebrew expression "the sons of God" is 153 and may be the intended message. Peter is three times asked by his Lord as to whether he has a love for Jesus. Christ asks Peter whether his love for his Master exceeds that of the other Apostles. The first two times Jesus uses the Greek word " agape" and Peter responds with Greek word "phileo" - meaning to have affection, or to be a friend. Peter is grieved when on the third occasion Jesus asks whether Peter has a 'strong affection' (phileo) for Jesus. An exchange occurs between Jesus and John as our Lord prophesies the manner of Peter's death. John concludes his record by stating how vast were the Lord's acts and that what was recorded was but a small sample. We're now in the section of Jeremiah that includes prophecies against individual nations. These prophecies were gathered over the course of Jeremiah's life and have been collected here at the end of his account. The overarching theme of these chapters is that the Lord sees the injustice and disgrace of the surrounding nations, and they will not escape his wrath and judgment. In some cases, the Lord says that he will restore the nation, but in other cases, the nation will become a perpetual ruin. In our last episode, Jeremiah prophesied against Egypt, Philistia, and Moab. October 1, 2025 Today's Reading: Amos 6:1-7Daily Lectionary: Deuteronomy 2:16-37; Matthew 6:16-34 “So as soon as all the men of war had perished and were dead from among the people, the Lord said to me, ‘Today you are to cross the border of Moab at Ar. And when you approach the territory of the people of Ammon, do not harass them or contend with them, for I will not give you any of the land of the people of Ammon as a possession, because I have given it to the sons of Lot for a possession.' …Rephaim formerly lived there… a people great and many, and tall as the Anakim; but the Lord destroyed them before the Ammonites, and they dispossessed them and settled in their place, as he did for the people of Esau, who live in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites before them and they dispossessed them and settled in their place even to this day… ‘This day I will begin to put the dread and fear of you on the peoples who are under the whole heaven, who shall hear the report of you and shall tremble and be in anguish because of you.'” (Deuteronomy 2:16-19, 20b, 21-22, 25) In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. The right hand of the Lord exalts, the right hand of the Lord does valiantly. The people of Israel are preparing to enter the land of Canaan. This retelling of the events beginning the forty years' wandering reinforces the truth of what will come for them in Joshua. The Lord will fight for them. The Lord will send their enemies fleeing before them. Moab, Ammon, and Edom are filled with unfaithful people. People to whom the Lord is faithful in His covenant promises. He promised them lands and prosperity, which they have. He even restrains Israel against them. All of these promises are known to the Israelites from Genesis. These unfaithful heathens still enjoy the rain falling on the just and the unjust alike from a faithful God. How much more will He be faithful to His people, Israel? The promises of God are all gathered together as proof of what is to come. In the garden, he promised to send the Seed of the woman to crush the Serpent's head. Jesus, the only Son from Heaven and Mary's Son, is the Messiah Israel awaited. All of creation was groaning for salvation. In Jesus, it is here. God's greatest promise was delivered by Christ's death to destroy the power of Satan for you, dear Christians. He has marked and is preserving you in His baptismal grace, delivering you into salvation. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. O Lord, You delivered Your promises to your people of old, and You have delivered Jesus to all mankind. Keep us steadfast in your grace, that we may receive the eternal life promised therein, in Jesus' name. Amen.Rev. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by his strength through his riches he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia. 11:3 And a mighty king shall stand up, that shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will. 11:4 And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled: for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others beside those. 11:5 And the king of the south shall be strong, and one of his princes; Folks, I rarely suggest you need to listen to a prior episode, but if you're not pretty familiar with Egyptian mythology, you should seek out the prior episode or two where our guest appeared. Who's the guest? The magician, Mogg Morgan of the Mandrake. It's been a while since we visited Egypt on the show. I've learned so much since then. I've forgotten more. And I've come up with more half baked theories.But I did have some specific questions for Morgan. I may have even gotten some of those. Among them is why are Ammon and Ra one or two entities? Was Imhotep a person, people or god? Where does Thoth fit in? Did Egyptians acknowledge and "conquer" and/or assimilate gods of other civilizations? Why animal heads? Who were the Kushites and Nubians? We talk psycho pomps. We  talk Hathor. I might have gotten further away from understanding the journey of the dead, or not quite dead. Just how many administrative gods can a pantheon have? Turns out a lot. And next time we have Mogg, we get into the age of demigods and the Egyptian Nephilim. Maybe.

“O our God, won’t you stop them? We are powerless against this mighty army that is about to attack us. We do not know what to do, but we are looking to you for help.” (2 Chronicles 20:12 NLT) Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, was in trouble. The armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir had joined forces to attack their common enemy, Judah. Military strategy, no matter how brilliant or daring, would not be able to overcome the size differential of the fighting forces. The armies that were descending on Judah had the potential to annihilate. King Jehoshaphat recognized that this was no time for false bravado. All he could do was pray and trust in God’s mercy and strength. In 2 Chronicles 20, we find him standing with his men, along with their families and children, praying, “O our God, won’t you stop them? We are powerless against this mighty army that is about to attack us. We do not know what to do, but we are looking to you for help” (verse 12 NLT). God’s answer came through Jahaziel, one of the men standing with the king. “This is what the Lord says: Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s” (verse 15 NLT). I love that scene. Humanly speaking, it is a picture of weakness. King Jehoshaphat was saying, in effect, “Lord, here we are. We have the kids. We have an army coming toward us. What am I going to do here? Our eyes are on You.” That is a good thing to pray. God answered Jehoshaphat’s prayer, intervened, and rescued the people of Judah. In the New Testament, we read of a time when there was a storm at sea, and the disciples were calling out to God for help. Jesus finally showed up, walking toward them on the water. He had arrived during the fourth watch of the night, which is the last part of the night, right before the sun begins to rise. Technically, it’s the morning, but it still feels like it’s night. This means the disciples had been toiling at sea for hours, trying to get through that storm, and Jesus came along at the last possible moment. The point is that He did come to them. And He will do the same for you and me. He always will—when the time is right. We need to just trust Him. God’s reckoning of time is much more accurate than ours is. He is eternal. He can see past, present, and future with perfect clarity. He knows the ripple effect of every action. He also knows how to bring good from any situation. He is the perfect Consultant—One who wants only the best for us and knows when and how that best can be achieved. Remember this: He loves us with an everlasting love. That love is not fickle. This chapter highlights the sad story of Ammon and Tamar.

We reach the end of 1 Kings today with chapter 22. The record tells us of a respite from war for 3 years. At the end of this time, Jehoshaphat, Ahab's son in law went to see his relative. Jehoshaphat is invited to join Ahab in a campaign against Syria but shows reluctance without the endorsement for the war by a prophet of Yahweh. The false prophets of Ahab promise victory, but Jehoshaphat remains adamant that without God's endorsement he will not proceed. Eventually Micaiah is summoned and sarcastically tells Ahab to go and conquer. The prophet was abused before he outlines the Almighty's attempt to entice and destroy the wicked king. Micaiah is put in tough conditions - being fed on bread and water - until his monarch would return in peace. Micaiah says that this cannot happen as Yahweh's Word cannot be broken. The king of Israel entered the battle in disguise, but was slain by an arrow shot by chance. Ahab having died in battle was carried to Samaria for burial and the dogs licked the blood from the washed chariot, in the very place of Naboth's slaughter, as Elijah had prophesied. Jehoshaphat, whose mother was faithful, walked as Asa his father had. He was a king like David. The record tells of a further error of judgment by Jehoshaphat in the joint venture with Israel's Ahaziah in the constructing of a navy at Ezion-geber. Ahaziah the son of Ahab came to rule over Israel and continued the wicked legacy of his father Ahab. The idolatry and wickedness had begun with Jeroboam: "the man who caused Israel to sin". Jehoshaphat seems to be like those described in 1 Corinthians 3 verses 13-15 ie his works were at times dubious but he may very well be saved.The 49th chapter of Jeremiah speaks of judgment poured out upon the nations surrounding Israel: Ammon (Moab's half brother); Edom, Syrian Damascus, Kedar and Hazor, and Elam. These nations and their principal cities were to experience the judgments from Yahweh delivered via the Babylonians. Verses 1-6 tell of the devastation of Ammon. Verses 7-22 speak of the total overthrow of Edom, ie Esau - Israel's brother. As we read these verses we should also consider the book of Obadiah and the words of Malachi 1 verses :2-5. Verses 23-27 outline the punishment of Damascus. Verses 28-33 predict the desolation of Hazor and Kedar in terms similar to the judgment of Babylon: compare Isaiah 14. Verses 34-39 speak of the punishment of Elam. Interestingly there are promises of latter day restoration for Ammon and Elam. The two kingdoms which bookend the prophecies of Jeremiah 49. As previously noted these pronouncements had applications for the prophet's time and, again, in the near future when the fortunes of Ammon and Elam will be reversed in the Kingdom of God. In the first of Corinthians 8 Paul outlines the problem facing the believers was not knowledge, but rather the insistence of exercising supposed rights. Idols were nothing; and so the eating of meats that had been devoted to an idol was of no consequence. What was of importance was, that, the insistence of some believers that they could go to a venue that promoted immorality. Paul declares that this could be cause for the stumbling of another believer. So for the sake of food, the Apostle explaines: do not destroy the conscience of another - for whom Christ died. Chapter 9 continues the argument that the foregoing of rights was essential if saving others is our objective. Paul's own example illustrates this. He explained in verses 8-14 by using two examples from the Law. This is followed by the Apostle showing that his preaching was from an obligation and was not entirely voluntary. This Paul explains humbles him and eliminates boasting. This section of the book 1 Corinthians concludes with the need for perseverance and discipline to attain the prize of eternal life.

I'm your host, Hunter, your Bible reading coach and companion as we explore God's Word together. In today's episode, we'll be diving into some powerful passages from Jeremiah 48 and 49, where we hear God's prophetic messages to the nations of Moab, Ammon, Edom, and more—emphasizing both judgment and ultimate restoration. We'll then lift our hearts in praise with Psalm 67 and finish with the life-giving words of First John chapter 1, where we are reminded that “God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.” Join me as we reflect on what it means to live in the light and love of God, leaving behind shadowed understandings of who He is, and embracing a faith that is anchored in His compassion and grace. TODAY'S DEVOTION: God is light, and there is no darkness in Him at all. That's the clear testimony of John in his first letter, and it's one he insists on with careful simplicity. There's no shadow in God, no hidden intentions, no darkness lurking behind His actions, not in some corner of His heart. God is light, and only light. And, John says, he and the other witnesses saw Him with their own eyes, touched Him with their own hands. In Jesus, the fullness of that light shone. Yet, many of us grow up with an uneasy sense that there's a second side to God—light and love on one hand, but wrath, anger, and darkness always close at hand. We might hear it in phrases like, “God is love, but He's also just,” or “God is love, but He's also holy.” We're left wondering if there is a line we might cross, a dividing point between God's kindness and God's judgment, and so we live in a sort of anxious balancing act, trying to stay in His favor and avoid the hidden, darker side of His character. But John sets the record straight: God is light, and God is love. Everything that flows from Him—His holiness, His righteousness, and yes, even His judgments—comes out of that light and love. There's nothing hiding behind Jesus' back; He's not the good cop while the Father is the bad cop. The nature of God is fully revealed in the face of Jesus, and that revelation is pure goodness. The very light of God has invited us, every one of us, into fellowship with Himself. We don't need to fear bringing our brokenness, our sin, and our shadows into the presence of His light. In fact, that is the invitation—bring it all to Him, let His love do what only love can do: expose, forgive, transform, heal, and invite us into real fellowship. Even as there remains darkness in us, it does not change who God is. We are to learn, like John, to see Jesus as He is, to experience Him with our own eyes and hands—to step out of the shadows and walk in the light. That's the prayer for today: to learn the ways of shadow-free living and shadow-free believing; to see God as He truly is, and to let that truth change the way we see ourselves and others, to let it dissolve our fear and shame. May we all come to know—deep in our hearts—that God is only and always light and love. That's my prayer for my own soul, for my family, for my wife and daughters and son, and that's my prayer for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us in safety to this new day. Preserve us with your mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. Dear Lord, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your spirit on all flesh and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. And now, Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned. It is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen. Eventually, Limhi and his people escape Lamanite oppression to Zarahemla. Later, Alma and his church find their way to Zarahemla as well.
