A child prodigy, she began boarding school for professional violin when she was 9. Although she loved playing her instrument, by the time she was 15 she was debilitated in back pain with no idea why. At first (as so many of us do) she thought the origin of her pain was poor posture or muscle weakness. After years of failed treatments and exercises, she was forced to leave conservatory, and her journey of self-discovery began. At the young age of 20, Evie is so wise. She has done the work to heal herself completely and lives a limitless life, but she is quick to say that this work is about so much more than getting out of pain. Evie's message is one every one of us needs to hear. Join us for an inspiring and insightful conversation. The Power of Self Advocacy in Prosthetic Care

Advocate and Rise   What happens when the people responsible for helping you move forward stop listening? You learn how powerful your own voice can become. In this episode of the BAWarrior Podcast, I step back from the idea of constantly pushing forward to talk about one of the most important skills every amputee must develop: advocating for yourself. Self-advocacy has been a major part of my journey since long before my amputation. After tearing my MCL while preparing for my second-degree black belt test, I endured five years, ten surgeries, increasing pain, and complications caused by arthrofibrosis. Each surgery brought a new doctor, a new explanation, and another retelling of my medical history. Eventually, I realized I could no longer rely on someone else to connect every piece of the puzzle for me. I began reading my surgical reports, researching unfamiliar medical terms, writing down questions, and paying closer attention to what my body was telling me. That process helped uncover the condition behind many of my complications and eventually gave me the courage to advocate for the amputation that changed my life. That need to speak up did not end after surgery. It became even more important. As amputees, we depend heavily on our prosthetists, especially after our surgeons are no longer involved in our everyday care. A prosthetic leg will never feel exactly like the limb we lost, so we must balance realistic expectations with the knowledge that constant pain should not be accepted as normal. Discomfort, adjustment, and awkwardness can be part of learning a prosthesis. Debilitating pain is a sign that something may need further investigation.   One of many appointments with my prosthetist.   I share how ongoing socket pain led my prosthetist and me to continue experimenting, collaborating, and searching for answers instead of giving up. Eventually, an MRI revealed a large neuroma that no socket adjustment could fix. That experience reminded me that good care requires teamwork. My prosthetist brought his knowledge, but I had to clearly communicate what I was feeling and continue trusting my instincts. Supportive medical teams are a must in your positive care and experience as an amputee   Living as an amputee also carries a daily mental load. Some mornings my leg feels strong and ready for everything I have planned. Other days, discomfort, swelling, skin irritation, or a poor fit can completely change the day. Even more than seven years after my amputation, I still have to remain flexible and listen to my body. My message throughout this episode is simple: do not give up on yourself. Ask questions. Bring someone with you when you need support. Find professionals who are willing to listen, collaborate, and fight beside you. You are more than an insurance claim, a medical chart, or a difficult case.   My support system   Your voice matters. Your mobility matters. Your future is worth fighting for.   Ready to Advocate for Yourself? Your journey does not have to be walked alone. If you are struggling to feel heard, searching for answers, or simply needing a community that understands the realities of amputee life, I encourage you to reach out. Join me and other women amputees during our weekly Amped Women virtual chats, where we come together to share, listen, encourage, and support one another. And if you are ready to move beyond survival, set meaningful goals, and take your next steps with accountability, Momentum may be the community you have been looking for. Follow the BAWarrior Podcast, subscribe on YouTube, and connect with me on social media so you do not miss future episodes, live conversations, and community gatherings. Most importantly, keep asking questions, keep trusting what your body is telling you, and never be afraid to use your voice. You are worth advocating for. Your mobility matters. Your dreams matter. And you do not have to give up.   Have a beautifully blessed week ahead and as always, Be Healthy, Be Happy, Be YOU!!!   Much love,

The Tragedy of Woodrow Wilson and the League of Nations Guest: David Pietrusza The 1920 election cycle begins with a physical and political crisis as President Woodrow Wilson suffers a massive, debilitating stroke in October 1919. This event leaves him frail for the remainder of his life and turns the League of Nations into the central, polarizing issue of the upcoming campaign. Historian David Pietrusza notes that while Wilson viewed the League as his "crusade," the Republican Party was deeply divided between isolationists and those seeking specific "reservations" to protect American sovereignty. Amidst this, Theodore Roosevelt — who many believed would be an "unstoppable" candidate for 1920 — dies in January 1919. Wilson reportedly reacted to his rival's death with "hatefulness" and "vulgarity." As Wilson's inner circle masked his declining health, the political stage was set for a transition from his rigid internationalism to a new era of Republican leadership. (1)1920

Ronald White, guest author, explains that the 20th Maine's early service was defined by the grim realities of warfare, from the massacre at Fredericksburg to a debilitating smallpox outbreak caused by defective vaccination serum within the camp. By June 1863, the regiment was forced on grueling 30-mile marches toward Gettysburg under oppressive summer heat. On the second day of the battle, Chamberlain received desperate orders to hold the far left of the Unionline at Little Round Top "at all cost." Facing superior Confederate numbers and having exhausted his unit's ammunition, Chamberlain executed a legendary bayonet charge that broke the enemy assault. During the chaotic melee, he personally confronted a Confederate officer at gunpoint, taking his pistol as the position was secured. Though he suffered from malaria following the victory, his leadership at Gettysburg cemented his reputation as a tactical hero who saved the Union flank. #215 - You're “Better”… So Why Do You Still Feel Like This? With Amy Kurtz   At some point, you get past the diagnosis. You finally start to feel physically better or the flare passes. And everyone—including you—thinks: okay, this is where life goes back to normal. Except… it doesn't. In this episode, I'm joined again by Amy Kurtz—patient advocate, bestselling author of Kicking Sick, and her new book But You Look Fine—and we're talking about the healing phase no one prepares you for: What happens after the illness because for a lot of people, that's where a different kind of struggle begins. Amy shares her experience of finally getting answers after years of chronic illness (we're talking 30+ doctors), beginning to heal physically, and then being hit with something she didn't expect: Debilitating anxiety. Hypervigilance. A nervous system that refused to stand down. Even though she moved beyond the illness, her body had been in survival mode for so long, it didn't know how to be anything else. What we unpack in this episode: The “in-between” phase of healing—when you're not sick, but you're not okay either Why your nervous system doesn't automatically catch up just because your labs look better The concept of Medical Trauma Brain (MTB)—Amy's term for the imprint chronic illness leaves behind How years of survival mode can turn into anxiety, fear, or obsessive control even after you improve The grief that comes with lost time, missed seasons, and a life that didn't go the way you thought Why healing isn't just physical—and what happens when we ignore the emotional and neurological layers The connection between chronic illness and trauma (including how this differs from traditional PTSD) What it actually looks like to start regulating your nervous system in a practical, doable way We also go here: The subtle ways people self-abandon in medical settings—and how to stop doing that Why “doctor knows best” can keep you stuck (and what to do instead) The fawn response in healthcare—and why it feels so hard to advocate for yourself How to choose the right practitioner for you (not just the most recommended one) The reality that 80% of your healing happens outside the doctor's office   A few moments to listen for: 08:30 – Her husband's provocative question that made Amy realize she wasn't actually “better” 14:00 – What Medical Trauma Brain really is—and why you've never heard of it 19:00 – Living in constant fear even after your body improves 27:00 – The fawn response and why patients stay in bad medical relationships 36:30 – “It all starts with peeing” (stay with us—it's actually profound) 44:00 – Why meditation can feel impossible—and what that tells you 52:00 – What Amy would do differently if she could go back   The part that stays with you: This idea that you can spend years fighting to get better… finally get there… and still feel trapped. If this sounds familiar, you're not failing. It's just that no one told you there's an aftermath to surviving something so hard. Amy calls it the “shadowlands”—that space where you look fine on the outside, but internally, your system is still bracing for impact. If you've ever thought: Why can't I just relax? Why am I still on edge? Why do I feel like something's about to go wrong—even when it's not? This episode will put language to that. If this is you right now, there's a way to actually teach your body that it's safe again. And the steps are easier than you think. This conversation isn't just about chronic illness. It's about what happens when you've been in survival mode for so long that you don't know how to turn it off. And how to start finding your way back.

Most of us grow up believing that when something hurts, you go to a professional, they tell you what’s wrong, and you get on with your life. But what happens when the pain keeps coming back? When no practitioner, no pill, and no treatment can make it stick? What if the body isn’t broken at all, but desperately trying to communicate something you haven’t been willing to hear? In this deeply revealing episode, bestselling author and energy medicine pioneer Inna Segal shares how she discovered that every symptom, every tension, and every chronic condition carries an emotional and energetic truth. After 25 years of working with thousands of people around the world, her message is both confronting and liberating: your body has its own language, and learning to read it is the key to transformation that actually lasts. The Chiropractor Who Changed Everything At 20 years old, Inna Segal was seeing health practitioners between three and five times a week. Debilitating back pain, psoriasis covering her skin, chronic anxiety, digestive issues. Nothing was working, and she was approaching every appointment with the same passive mindset: fix me. Then one day, her chiropractor did something unexpected. He stood in front of her and said, “Your body wants to be stuck. Go home. There’s nothing I can do for you.” She was furious. But on the drive home, something shifted. Drawing on her background in linguistics, Inna began asking a question no one had ever posed to her: does the body have its own language? She went home, placed her hands on her back, and for the first time, tried to listen. What followed was a flood of golden light, an unwinding of tension, and a series of visions connecting her physical pain to childhood bullying, family conflict, and intergenerational trauma stretching back to her grandmother’s survival during the war. Within weeks, her psoriasis disappeared completely and never returned. Her back pain dissolved. Her anxiety dropped dramatically. And a gift she never expected began to emerge: the ability to see into other people’s bodies and help them understand what their pain was truly about. Your Body as a Roadmap What makes Inna’s approach so compelling is how logical it is. She breaks the body down by function and asks the simplest of questions. Eyes are for seeing, so what are you refusing to see? The throat is for communication, so what are you not saying? The digestive system processes what comes in, so what experiences in your life are you unable to digest? She explains that the left ear reflects your relationship with yourself and the feminine, while the right connects to achievement and the masculine. The shoulders carry burdens. The hips hold family dynamics. The spine is your deepest foundation. And all of it is already embedded in the language we use every day: “he’s a pain in the neck,” “my heart is broken,” “I carry the weight on my shoulders.” Why Spiritual Bypassing Is Dangerous Inna is refreshingly direct about what she calls the most dangerous trend in the wellness space: spiritual bypassing. She challenges the culture of “love and light” that avoids the real, specific, detailed inner work that lasting transformation demands. As she puts it, band-aids don’t work. No one can do the deep inner work for you. Practitioners can support you, but the journey of truly knowing yourself requires your own willingness to slow down, get curious, and stop skipping steps. Three Golden Nuggets Inna leaves listeners with three practical steps to begin. First, make the decision to befriend your body. Second, start asking it questions and listen for the answers. Third, journal every insight that arises. And above all, work on one issue at a time, because one genuine breakthrough builds the self-belief needed to tackle the next. About Inna Segal Inna Segal is a pioneer in energy medicine and human consciousness, and the bestselling author of The Secret Language of Your Body, translated into 27 languages with over a million copies sold worldwide. For over 25 years, she has helped thousands of people transform pain into freedom through the wisdom of the body and soul. For more than a decade, Scheana Shay has lived her life in the public eye, on Vanderpump Rules, in headlines, and under constant scrutiny. But while the world watched one version of her story, a much harder one was unfolding behind closed doors. In this deeply honest sit-down, Scheana opens up about the reality she was carrying while cameras kept rolling. A traumatic, life-threatening birth. Debilitating postpartum OCD and intrusive thoughts that left her afraid of her own mind. And the moment she discovered her husband had cheated, while she was raising a young child and barely surviving herself.Scheana shares what it was like to endure all of this while being judged in real time. In today's episode, I sit down with Jes Reynolds, who challenges the common myths surrounding HG and reveals how it often signals deeper physiological imbalances, from nutrient deficiencies to hidden toxicities. Together, we explore how holistic preconception prep can transform the way women experience pregnancy, showing that fertility, morning sickness and HG are reflections of overall health, not isolated conditions. Episode Highlights: What is HG? Hyperemesis Gravidarum and how is it different than regular morning sickness? Think HG is purely genetic? Jes challenges that belief, diving into the surprising role of epigenetics and why your genes aren't the full story Discover why HG might be more common and more misunderstood than you think Jes reveals the subtle health clues that may signal increased HG risk and shares how fertility and pregnancy symptoms mirror our overall health What if morning sickness wasn't random, but a message from your body? In this episode of The Healers Café, Manon Bolliger, speaks to Cedric Bertelli, founder of the Emotional Health Institute, discusses his methodology, Emotional Resolution (EMRS), which addresses emotional imprints through somatic neuroscience. Inspired by his grandfather's resilience post-WWII, Cedric developed EMRS to help individuals resolve emotional patterns by feeling physical sensations without control. He explains that the brain predicts emotions based on past experiences, often rooted in trauma, and EMRS allows these predictions to play out naturally, updating the brain's response.   For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/cedric-bertelli    Highlights from today's episode include:  Emotions are outdated predictions: Debilitating emotions are often outdated predictions from the brain, triggered when current stimuli resemble elements from past traumatic moments. The body then recreates old physical sensations (interoception), even when they're no longer relevant. Resolution by fully feeling sensations (90 seconds) : If a person can safely stay with the raw physical sensations of an emotion—without trying to regulate, fix, or control them—the interoceptive wave naturally completes within about 30–90 seconds, and the brain updates its prediction, so the same stimulus no longer triggers that reaction. Stop building stories; stay with the body: Manon emphasizes the importance of not creating or feeding mental stories about what we feel. By witnessing the emotion innocently and staying with the body's sensations rather than the narrative, we allow real resolution instead of reinforcing the pattern.   ABOUT CEDRIC BERTELLI: Cedric Bertelli is the founder of the Emotional Health Institute and co-developer of Emotional Resolution® & EmRes®, a somatic, neuroscience-based approach for resolving emotional imprints. Before dedicating himself to emotional health, Cedric spent more than a decade in the hospitality industry, including leadership roles with The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, where he developed a deep understanding of human behavior and service. Over the past 15 years, he has trained practitioners across the world, guided thousands of clients, and partnered with researchers at UCLA and UCSF to advance the scientific foundations of EmRes. His work focuses on making emotional healing simple, effective, and accessible so people can live with greater clarity, ease, and resilience. Core purpose/passion: My core purpose is to help people reconnect with their natural capacity to resolve emotional pain. Not to manage it, not to suppress it, and not to build workarounds around it — but to truly resolve it at the physiological level so they can live with more freedom, presence, and ease. –  Facebook |  Instagram |  Website | LinkedIn | YouTube |   ABOUT MANON BOLLIGER, RBHT, FCAH: As a retired Naturopath 1992-2021, I saw an average of 150 patients per week and have helped people ranging from rural farmers in Nova Scotia to stressed out CEOs in Toronto to tri-athletes here in Vancouver. In this episode, Mary welcomes back Tracey Campbell to discuss the complexities of gut health, specifically focusing on leaky gut and Ulcerative Colitis. Tracey shares her extensive experience working with clients—particularly those under high stress—who suffer from chronic digestive inflammation. What is Ulcerative Colitis? Tracey describes Ulcerative Colitis as having ulcers along the large intestine, including the rectum and colon. Just as mouth ulcers are painful, these internal ulcers cause significant distress as food and waste pass through the digestive tract. Common symptoms include: Severe stomach cramping. Chronic diarrhea as the body tries to "flush" the system. Inflammation, which may lead to pus or blood in the stool. Debilitating fatigue and headaches. The Root Causes: Why Does It Happen? While family history can play a role in susceptibility, Tracey highlights several environmental factors that trigger the condition: Chronic Stress: High-pressure jobs and a lack of relaxation are major contributors. Medication Overuse: Frequent use of conventional drugs can upset the gut microbiome. Poor Diet: Processed and "rubbish" foods place immense strain on the system. Leaky Gut: Increased intestinal permeability allows waste to enter areas where it shouldn't be. The Homeopathic Approach vs. Conventional Medicine Conventional medicine typically focuses on symptom suppression through medication for diarrhea or inflammation. If these flares continue, patients may eventually face surgical options. Homeopathy247 takes a different path by asking: Why is the body reacting this way?. Homeopaths look at the etiology (the starting point) of the illness whether it was a trauma, a period of intense work, or previous heavy medication. How Homeopathy Stimulates Healing: Emergency Remedies: Providing immediate support for pain and diarrhea during acute flares. Deeper Resilience: Working on a constitutional level to lengthen the gaps between flares. Body Awareness: Encouraging clients to "tune in" to their bodies and recognize early warning signs. Tracey emphasizes that homeopathy can be used alongside conventional medicine. As the body heals and becomes more resilient, the need for medication often naturally decreases. The core issue became the League of Nations, which Wilson championed but the Republican Party bitterly contested, ultimately causing public skepticism. Wilson held fierce opposition to former President Theodore Roosevelt, who died in January 1919. Roosevelt had detested Wilson's neutrality regarding German aggression. Despite his frail health, Roosevelt would have been the unstoppable Republican candidate had he lived.
